It's so unreal seeing so much unused space inside an iPad! That's a really cool prototype.
I think it is because the sides are sloped, you cant really put anythinge there because it is so thin.
It's not actually as unused as it looks, the space is partly reserved for the display's components that are on the display assembly part.
"Apple, please scan the code and see whose iPad this is"
As someone who works there and is in posession of a lot of prototypes all I'm gonna say is that will likely get somebody in a hell of a lot of trouble and likely fired lmfao
And probably brick the device as soon as it reaches network

I miss the original iPad. It was hands down the best iPad design for ergonomics. It was so nice to hold in the hands. The square edges, the rounded back, the screen bezels to rest your thumbs, it was pure perfection!
so true i refuse to upgrade past the home button era, but still even then newer models have minimum bezel and maximum screen mess ups from your fingers 😭

As a 1st gen iPad owner, I am still salty how they screwed it up on purpose by giving it 256MB ram instead of 512Mb like the iPhone 4, and by removing the FaceTime camera sometime before production.

Plus, it stops at iOS 5.1.1 when it should at least be iOS 6.1.6 or iOS 7.1.2.

@@mr.vorrnyvorrn2516its the 256MB ram, and even then it gets the software support of the touch 3, which is much more underpowered. it should have gotten 6.x regardless of the missing features

I still have iPad 1st gen with 32gb cellullar with the original box. Cant wait for it to become rare.
The reason why the ram test app was not aligned correctly was because it was made for prototype iPods and iPhones.
i just like seeing old versions of devices/software
there’s still the possibility apple was actually using this iPad to test future iOS builds until they planned on discontinuing support in iOS 5, hence why it had all of its internal apps, on iOS 5, honestly just a theory tho
So I *think*, given where I go it from, an engineer just continued daily using it until 5.1.1, which is awesome since it has a later build, although I would have loved to get one on 3.X

Please set your focus settings to manual. Like 20 - 30% of the video is out of focus because of autofocus. It's just a one switch (even if you are using a phone to record)

I remember I bought an iPad 2 on eBay and got it for a good deal. I was so surprised of how advanced it seems to be to me. It’s crazy how much technology has advanced in 10 years. I wonder how things are here in another decade from now

I still use iPad 2 as a book reader.It's still in perfect condition and the battery shows no sign of giving up,its a shame not much else works well,everything else crawls along.
Should be fine with playing back encoded 480p movies. My late grandmother had a Gen 1 chock full of DVD rips.

Yes, its exactly the same as the production cellular iPad 1st gen, probably you can easily install production iOS too.

I might have seen the “development team” sticker tag on an old iPad in a bucket inside a flea market. (Except, the sticker tag had a blue label instead of golden yellow shown in this video.)

Please don't just say something because you think it makes sense. This took 7 seconds to fact check.. there's no reason you couldn't have fact checked your script before shooting.

QR codes were invented in 1994. Apple did not create the idea in 2010 to track internal assets because QR codes "weren't really around" yet. 0:58

I would think trying would just reflash stock iOS.
I think it was just via continued use from an engineer, not super certain for older builds, but anything newer needs to connect behind apples firewall to update
@@DongleBookPro but wouldn't they have a new device that is closer to retail for continued development. Although honestly it is more interesting that that device is on iOS 5 compared to an older one as there probably are a lot less internalui of ipads

Looked the phone number up on the screen that tells you to call someone if found. It is or was the phone number of Evelyn Sell at Apple Computer. Can't find any info on them, at least yet. Maybe they were an engineer at apple or responsible for asset handling?

Interesting the OS has a Compass app, which you'd not get on the iPad unless you copied it through jailbreak from a 3GS
