A lot of IT departments are phenomenally bad at asset management. A lot of corporations will get a pallet of new systems and 3-5 years later when the warranty drops or they're not shiny anymore will just throw them out. I work for an MSP and I've had to stop so many companies from literally just tossing stacks of perfectly working 3 year old laptops in the dumpster because they aren't shiny anymore and the executives want something new. Not even taking them to the e-recycler just into the city garbage. And e-waste companies that don't let the public look through inventory before they chop it up and ship it to China are a huge enabler of this problem. Intel hasn't significantly advanced their processors in the last 4-6 years or so and even almost decade old systems still run Windows 10 like a champ with an SSD. And yet literal cargo ship loads of totally good still very powerful and useful less than 5 year old systems get trashed and destroyed every day. These often aren't 8 year old beat up Celeron systems with a swollen battery and a dead display either. We're talking capable executive workstations with color accurate displays and discreet graphics and powerful processors. I once only barely stopped a client from dumping a stack of 8 totally working Precision 7520s some with 120hz display, most with 16gb+ of ram, all with i7s, most with SSDs into a dumpster because they had lost the chargers they came with.

They are only worth thousands if still working. As is...they are worthless save for the scrap value. Times are a changing DJTech.
Love how half the comments exaggerate private schools “privilege”. What you don’t know is private schools are expected to have modern day devices and if they don’t, they loose funding which is pretty much the heart of the school. Some parents spend 4-5k a semester or more and so, the amount of devices that the schools don’t want to keep is understandable.
Macs are not worth $1000 in these conditions and if you honestly expect me as a Apple consumer to continue to use a device half working, you’re ignorant.
Most Apple stores will charge you more then these macs are worth to fix them.
The only fault I agree with is throwing them away. Happily recycle or send them back to Apple for parts at the very least.
Thanks.
@gesus not going to argue over how I sound. It’s the facts. When your school isn’t funded by the state, your funds depend on the number of students attending. And many would never pay to go to a school with half functioning macbooks for the cost. Now if your school is free and paid by the state, then the school is probably given a set of laptops chrome books or whatever and are not responsible for them. No need to get aggressive but any device that doesn’t turn on shouldn’t be kept. I toss so many old laptops every few years away at my company. Could we fix them? Sure. But what’s the point?
Send the MacBooks you can't repair to Louis Rossmann
He kept the hearts on that one MacBook so wholesome
Hugh Jefferys: Gets a lot of Macbooks.

7:08 - most laptop computers, including Apples, don't have any active cooling on the PCH portion of the CPU. It is normal.
Yeah and it’s frightening ... built in time bomb
@@iriswaldenburger2315 not necessarily. Sometimes, in lower powered pchs you do bit want the cpu to heat it to 80°C or about. Also, if the hub has lots of s-ata/usb3/pcie buses, it might need a separated heat spreader or sink, decoupled from the cpu and vrms
