    I'm pretty sure I know what seller this is, as I recently took a chance and bought a 2nd Gen iPad Pro from them at reasonable price. I seem to have been incredibly fortunate, as the device was in very reasonable condition with no nasty surprises. I was worried that perhaps the battery would be problematic, but again, thankfully it holds charge quite well for its' age. My stomach dropped when I saw the listings, though. Complete minefield.

On cell devices the account is tied together with the IMEI which is stored on the baseband and can't be programmed with the method I use. There's a few cell iPads (gen 4 and lower) that I do a resistor mod on which works well but isn't really worth doing now unless I get them in a bulk lot for next to nothing.

    Also I may have an explanation for the S7 edges not powering on, I had a lot of S7’s which most didn’t power on, and my main S7 developed the same issue.

    Hi Hugh...I saw you recently at B**** Sq Shopping Centre, but resisted the urge to tell you I'm a real fan...love your work. This video highlighted an issue you might address in a future video. Screens going black on Samsungs that are only 3 or 4 years old. When mine happened I Googled it to find it a real problem.
    Anyway, thanks for everything you do.

  • @therealdaniboi
    @therealdaniboi 2 года назад +12

    I noticed the S4 is GT-I9505 model. The reason why the screen acts up when you press the back part of the board because the midframe of the new screen could be for a different model of the S4 and causes some components to touch a part of the midframe causing a short. Samsung used to revise the midframe, charging sub-boards and logic boards for different countries where it was sold in the past. For it to work flawlessly, you'd need a matching screen/midframe assembly and a charging port intended for a GT-I9505 S4.
    EDIT: I suddenly remebered, the purple screen/midframe assembly is intended for a GT-I9500 (Exynos non-LTE) variant. The logic board you have is a GT-I9505 (Snapdragon LTE enabled). Using an Exynos logic board on a GT-I9505 midframe and vice-versa causes the screen to turn off when the back part is pressed. And when you try to screw everything back together, the screen won't work at all.

    • @NSHG
      @NSHG 2 года назад +2

      Actually, his purple frame was for the 2.3GHz GT-i9506. I've had a 9506 board in a 9505 casing and charging port. It worked, but you had to be careful with the power button as it would reset if you pushed harder on it.
      Later traded it for a S3 Neo i9301. Not even to this day the chap who accepted the trade didn't even call me back on the issue.

    • @therealdaniboi
      @therealdaniboi 2 года назад +1

      @@NSHG oh okay. I used to repair S4s back in the day. Just a hobby though. Buying screens with midframes for the S4 can be a pain if they send you the wrong part. Especially when dealing with Korean variants. So I do the tedious task of separating the screen from the midframe so I can transfer it to another midframe for it to work properly. I broke several screens before I got the hang of it. 😂

    Your Note 4 probably has an EMMC Issue. Its sadly a very common issue especially on the Snapdragon 805 variants. Basically due to bad solder joints the Note 4's EMMC memory chip can loose connection causing the phone to be dead. It can however be fixed by reballing the EMMC chip.
    I myself got a lot of 6 N910F Note 4's and 3 had this issue. I got 2 at least working by swapping boards and displays.

      It's frankly astounding how Samsung just gets a pass for having used displays for years - even until fairly recently - that become unusable after just a few years of use. This is not an issue with most screens. I get that OLED has advantages, but this is a massive downside that rarely gets talked about. I remember people used to excuse the issue as some fringe issue that most people will never run into, but years later that's proven to be false - it's very common.

      i'm no expert or professional but i think the batteries have hardware in them that helps the phone know what the battery is at. with your current setup it doesn't have anything to tell it the state of the battery. you could try dismantling a battery (obviously carefully) to get the little board that handles the communications and then run power through, that might fix your problem but that's just an amateur's guess

      My experience is the complete opposite. A LOT of my friends used Samsung phones all their life, some low end, some mid end but mostly high end S and Note lines. Zero problems. The only time I heard something happening with one of their phones was only one friend that broke the screen of his S20 and had to replace it, and was actually shocked for it not being that expensive to fix, with a genuine brand new display. Was like 150€. Other than that, absolutely zero problems. However my gf owned iPhones all her life and she buys a new one every 1-2 years because her last one breaks in some random way that apple wont fix or its not worth it. Her current iPhone 13 (not pro) already has a broken volume up key. It wont even physically click, feels stuck, she has to use the quicksettings to turn up the volume. I guess it really is how you handle phones, how many falls or physical stress you subject them to, and maybe also a dose of luck. My gf is always dropping her phone and that is a huge explanation why all her iPhones break to unfixable ways in a year. She uses glass screen protectors and bulky cases on purpose because of this, but the impacts of it constantly falling eventually start messing up with the internals. Some people even without noticing put a lot of strain on their phones hardware. The charging port is a great example, people often put a lot of strain on that port by using bad cables or pulling on them too hard or whatever.

    FYI. Current draw is measured in amps, period. For example, 152 mA. It's not correct to add an extraneous "-hour" in the context of current draw. That's why the current meter has just an "A" period.
    Amp-hours is a current over some period of time, for example the capacity of a battery such as 3850 mAh.
    Cheers.

    Thanks for showing this video. I bought a very large iPhone/iPad/iPod and some non-Apple phones in 2016 from a large company with my at-the-time business partner. Whilst trying to book these in, we discovered that this lot were more faulty than expected ie: mainly iCloud locked. Being relatively new to iCloud locked devices I thought I could unlock them. My business partner offered his half to me and I accepted and paid him for his half. So 7 years later (2016-2023) I have invested ~$20k of stock and I am just under $10k return. This does not include my time to process the equipment, advertising fees, free postage, etc, so a $10k loss thus far. I may do a video on this one day...

    I have some experience with part lots also, given you have the ebay chat history, I would expect the outcome to be a "partial refund" on this one, or you would likely have to "fight" for a full return, but you're past that. Also 250k views in a month, the parts have more than paid for themselves once you factor in the content ;^) (+ editing time, voiceover etc:)

    That seller, from the picture of the phones on eBay & some of the fancy graphics in the title of the listing, along with the quick preview of the other listings that the seller is selling, it is the seller i think it is. I got a phone from them too. But it was faulty, half the touch screen did not work, battery was rather bulged but still turned on. Returned it, and they are selling it again for the same price, with the battery issue mentioned but not the faulty touchscreen. But yes, was a dodgy lot hugh had bought, but still made something out of it, at least.

    I had two OnePlus Nord N100 phones. One, a Metro by T-Mobile phone had a severely cracked screen. The other had a ripped back panel and shorted out battery. I used the back panel and battery from the broken screen phone on the one with the ripped back and bad battery. Now the one works and I sold it. The other one was reduced to spare parts.
