The 17 inch MacBook Pro gpu failed because the solder bumps that connected the die to the substrate would fail. Only 2011s had that issue, even the 2011 iMacs had gpu failure because it was the same chip.
The internet recovery issues are caused by a certificate issue where the update servers dont accept the certs from alot of the older laptops, you have to go to the apple store to fix this in most cases. Tried to recover friends macbook and ran into this. Installed linux instead.
Just FYI. The 2011 and 2008 GPUs are going bad. Nope, not the solder, the GPU itself. The package (underfill) degrades. The poor thermal management just accellerates this on macbooks. 2008 they were hit by bad Nvidia Chips (happened also with e.g. the Thinkpad T61(p)). The whole Nv. 8xxx ("Tesla") series had this hardware issue 2011 a bad batch of AMD/ATI chips. So reflowing is not a permanent fix. It however does fix a lot of the Radeon X1xxx GPUs in first gen MBPs permanently
10:11 I wish there were a way to force the activation lock off of devices, because apple themselves created them, so it would appear they could force bypass it, but they can't.
one time I was on my unibody MacBook Pro and it wouldn't install after booting into internet recovery several times, and each time it booted me to highsierra. but one time, it booted me into the native Mac OS lion installer. I was marveled, but I really needed a modern os so I opted for high sierra. it eventually worked.
That last mac is not a gpu issue!!!! I ha e a identical machine and it was the battery. It's doing that because it needs the battery to boot all the way and the battery is so dead that its not being detected. The way I fixed it was to plug in the charger with the battery unplugged than plug in the battery. For some reason that will make it start to actually charge.
The GPU failure is from the AMD chips themselves being faulty and having bad solder connection between the die and the carrier chip. The connections between these 2 components are done by AMD and then Apple factories solder the carrier chip to the board. The micro solder connections between the actual silicon die and the large chip are very tiny and during the 6000 series, AMD really screwed up their quality control and did a crappy job connecting the 2 pieces and so they were generally unstable unless cooled significantly well like in a desktop GPU with good thermal paste and airflow over through a large heat sink. Though sometimes even those succumbed to the micro connections breaking. I know iMacs from 2011 also use the 6000 series AMD GPUs and they often had similar faults but they didn’t seem as common since at least iMacs have better heat sinks and still used the same mobile GPU chips as the laptops at the time.So it isn’t actually Apple’s fault for this defect. Nvidia also had the same problem with their 8600m GT’s on the older 2007-2008 MacBook Pros. Though had Apple put decent thermal paste on all their chips over the years, I’m certain the issues would have been much less widespread.
Dear sir, Is there anyway i could buy any of the restored IPad and Iphones or Mac for myself... To be able to use for my office work... I could not afford to buy the new as of my budget is quite low... Will I be able to get my hand on one of these as second hand which are actually in good working condition... Please suggest 🙏
Interesting story with the one that was hard to turn on and then boot looped, I was on a trip and my phone restarted, WiFi cellular and Bluetooth were all disabled, after restarting again it showed the swipe up to restore screen, it locked up after that and turned off, I could only turn it on when the charger was unplugged, then had to plug it in when it was on the apple logo. When I got it on the system logs would crash when you opened them. I restored the phone to factory and it was fine for a hour, then it repeated it all, when I got home I fully wiped it and put it into dfu mode and haven’t had problems since, this was on a iPhone XS. This whole thing happened over a few hours trying to get to to work

10:22 - It's also the reason why thieves don't steal iPhones or iPads anymore. After a few years of activation locks, even the biggest idiots know that an iPhone that is iCloud locked is good only for pieces and not worth the risk stealing. I discussed this even with someone employed as an officer, almost nobody bothers stealing iPhones / iPads nowadays.

The 17 inch MacBook Pro gpu failed because the solder bumps that connected the die to the substrate would fail. Only 2011s had that issue, even the 2011 iMacs had gpu failure because it was the same chip.
that powerbook G4 looks so nice actually, it meets the modern designs imo
The internet recovery issues are caused by a certificate issue where the update servers dont accept the certs from alot of the older laptops, you have to go to the apple store to fix this in most cases. Tried to recover friends macbook and ran into this. Installed linux instead.
Great man. You are my best tech RUclipsr
8xxx ("Tesla") series had this hardware issue
2011 a bad batch of AMD/ATI chips.
So reflowing is not a permanent fix. It however does fix a lot of the Radeon X1xxx GPUs in first gen MBPs permanently
Great video. What do u do with these Mac after restoring them?

I wish there were a way to force the activation lock off of devices, because apple themselves created them, so it would appear they could force bypass it, but they can't.

I've never heard something so true.
one time I was on my unibody MacBook Pro and it wouldn't install after booting into internet recovery several times, and each time it booted me to highsierra. but one time, it booted me into the native Mac OS lion installer.
Hey mate! How did you make a bootable drive for a Mac OS? May macbook is not working on a El Capitan
Man, as long as you upload a video on restoration it's cool. especially the older device.
Watching Hugh’s videos are always satisfying
the mac mini plug it in with a kettele lead and a dysplay cable to your mac setup then turn it on
Dear sir,
Is there anyway i could buy any of the restored IPad and Iphones or Mac for myself...
This whole thing happened over a few hours trying to get to to work
10:30 same for me, I have about 7 Activation locked iPhones and it’s a pity ☹️ but I’m not destroying it or something like that, I’m keeping it for parts like you 😁
you should do some research, pretty sure there are some backdoors depending on OS version
Right to Repair, a movement not just about repairing but also imo to reduce e-waste, apple is out there trying their best to increase it. Someday i will sit down and fix the Compaq LTE ELITE 4/75CXL.
Awesome video! What editing software do you use on your macbook
10:22 - It's also the reason why thieves don't steal iPhones or iPads anymore. After a few years of activation locks, even the biggest idiots know that an iPhone that is iCloud locked is good only for pieces and not worth the risk stealing. I discussed this even with someone employed as an officer, almost nobody bothers stealing iPhones / iPads nowadays.
yeah, apple just hasn’t bothered to make a system that prevents thieves and allows repair
6:52 Did Plainrock124 use this laptop?
