You can't really test the RAM in a meaningful way since MacOS is really good at compressing any unused data in the RAM, so it all depends on what kind of multitasking you'll be doing, but in general 16GB should be the minimum and 24-36GB for someone tech savvy like yourself. I'd go for 8GB only if it's a used M1 Air that I could get for cheap.
I got a 15 inch 16GB M2 MacBook Air with 512GB SSD. It works amazingly well for engineering work I do. What makes me regret the 16GB model is I'm stuck working on huge powerpoint presentations and unless I keep track of things and close what I don't need swap space is used more often than I would like. Sure, swap usage is normal but with an SSD that can't be replaced I would prefer not to put any more wear on the SSD than necessary. Sadly the MacBook Air is limited to 24GB RAM so at some point I might have to move up to a pro, but I really like the passive cooling. Overall though, it's an amazing laptop, but gets even more expensive when adding AppleCare to the cost. We also have an 8GB M1 MacBook Air with 512GB SSD. It amuses me to see people defend the 8GB model. You really don't need to do much to run out of 8GB RAM on that laptop. Bottom line, whether creating content or doing software development I've not found a laptop that I like as much so I put up with the downside of not being able to replace the SSD.
This is best comment I've seen on a real use scenario for this Macbook Air. Living overseas, the only Apple options are at the base store and they never have the model that I want. :) It would be easy for Apple to make the ram and SSD upgradable but, they know by forcing the user to buy Apple stuff they can overcharge you and steal your money-lol I can't get past that last point. :(
SSD lifespan is really not an issue unless you want to keep the device for a very long time, but MacOS can slow down greatly when you don't have enough RAM.
Apart from the Iphone the other best Apple products are Ipad Air and Mcbook Air. As for Mcbook Air I bought it in 2020 M1 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD & 8-core GPU and it still rocks. I prefer 13 inch vs 15 inch anytime. And it's good to always beef it up a little bit with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD if you'd like to use it for couple more years. The external portable SSD is always a plus anyway.

I have it. lol the battery could last you like 10-12 hours non-stop. It’s lasts me all week without charging cause I only use it a couple hours at time

Do a macbook and zenbook comparison please
3:02 NO, cos it will overheat. And also, if it doesnt, we know it will be underpowered cos of its specs.
SSD lifespan is really not an issue unless you want to keep the device for a very long time, but MacOS can slow down greatly when you don't have enough RAM.
what's your opinion of the new matebook x pro of huawei?
Design is nice but haven't tried it myself :)
FYI M4 mba will be out soon.
can't wait! :)
What happens when the macbook's SSD dies?
it becomes a big a$s paper weight.
Yup! It's a bye bye Apple!
@@theTechNotice ROFL!
You replace it
@@TheVikingquest the whole macbook ? :(
Well they can and do run windows. I've been thinking about getting one
I'm waiting for Apple to make a Macbook air with a better battery change in 2027 as the EU requires
With 18 hours you don’t need to swap.
@@TheEmrickman true I think about when they get older
I thought the m chips were wayyy better than the newer i7s or i9s but tbh... they're really not that far off. They just have more power efficiency. I think i9s are faster than M series
Efficiency is what's important for a mobile device not plugged to the wall and I'm not just talking about the battery life.
@@5GRobo So besides battery life, What other benefits are there to efficiency?
@@matthewrichardson2533 Getting the full performance of the chip without being plugged in to the wall.
@@5GRobo ohhh okay makes sense.
I will never buy another apple product. Soldered ssd is an outrageous design flaw.
I just treated myself to the zenbook pro 16 oled
Zenbooks are nice!
Yes I buy it with windows right now. 3 of them for the kids
I would not purchase anything with soldered ram and storage. Does not matter what os it is running.
Are you telling me you haven't purchased 5 smart phones in your life already? 😅
@@5GRobo a smartphone is not a computer. I have a smartphone because dumb phones are not really something you can get anymore.
Pointless video, I wanted the battery life numbers but the reviewer just kept saying all day battery life over and over. Why bother making a video recommending a product that the reviewer hasn't started using himself yet.
I have it. lol the battery could last you like 10-12 hours non-stop. It’s lasts me all week without charging cause I only use it a couple hours at time
But this video is not a review. The title is 6 reasons why I bought the 15 inch....
If you want a review I suggest you look for a review video instead
What are you yapping about lil bro
Bro you complain too much
3:28
7th reason: Because I will make enough off the video to pay for it
There is only one reason you bought this… To make a video.
If you can't recognize a great product when you see it, you might be Microsoft cult member.
;)
No more windows. win11 is the pure sh*tware ...
When a reviewer spends that much time on the colour of the laptop and the stickers... yeahhhhh... moving on.
I have to... coz of the people buying it... :)
you have gone so long with the buy/ dont buy, I send it back/I got one, that at this point this is just pointless
Well this one is here to stay :)
traitor
lol
M4 is released. Sorry for you buying old tech 😂
only on Ipad, not for Mac OS :)
@@theTechNotice true. But in 6 months time the MBP with M4 will be out.
Yee definitely that Big Shiny Apple in the middle of the lid is Minimalistic! Ehe😏
At least its not RGB haha
@@theTechNotice But still sparks like dog shiny balls 😅
I like the M-Series Air's a lot.
But they are very pricy though.
The effiency is unmatched as far as I know, but I would refuse to pay more than 1000€ for a Laptop with less than 16gb of RAM and 1TB of storage.
I know most of the time you may not need the extra horsepower, but for that price Tag this should not even be an argument...
More RAM is more RAM. 🤌
Not even Apple can cheat their way around that.
