I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but I was wrong about the M3 MacBook Air, and I'm actually enjoying my time with this laptop. So much so that I bought my very own maxed out spec M3 MacBook Air for my everyday computer. This is the perfect laptop for someone who's looking for a thin and light laptop that is powerful too!

I'm so pleasantly surprised RUclips threw this video on my home screen. It allowed me to stumble across this awesome channel with all these videos i haven't seen but which are right up my alley. I typically click off these smallish creator videos after about 30 seconds because, no offense, they are usually not the best. But Mark, wow man, the quality of this video was off the charts (including audio quality), particularly considering the size of your channel. You're going to be a quick riser man. I really did my research for this purchase. You pointed out that all of the specs were a concern, and I found that it should work with the combination of the work I am doing.👍

great review.. the 16gb/512gb was 1399 last week on Amazon and BestBuy pricematched it for me.. it's 1449 now but it's changing all the time. The 16gb/256gb variant is 1299 so that's not bad if someone has a hard budget.

If the MBA throttles after a while under heavy load, then benchmarks are useless unless you do them twice, once before and once after the processor heats up. Or maybe a benchmark that runs for a longer period of time.
If it had a mini-led display, it would be perfect. Unfortunately, i can't justify paying that much for a mid screen.
Curious, why would someone opt for a pro vs an air? I have a 2017 pro base model, works ok still but my line of work is real estate - spreadsheets, bunch of property profiles up, etc

My budget is for the base variant. My main work is video editing and coding as I am a student.

It is always funny how RUclipsrs say base MBA "are just for students or people doing light photo or video editing and some mailing on the go " Sorry but this how 90% of the population use their laptops. Unless you work in a music production or movie production you definitely don´t need the power of M pro or M Max series those machines are for very very specific work. As an artist I have enough power with my base M2 and sometimes you even feel lost with such a powerful machines. So my advice buy following your needs and not following the hype. My nexrt laptop purchase would be a M5 - M6 16bg MBA. Art is not the machine you use but the creativity you have🙏🙏
Here’s the thing. I’m not gonna recommend you a laptop that’ll last you one to two years. Software updates happen. Throttling the system WILL happen. And as more apps use more resources years after your purchase, I want to make sure people who buy these laptops (which are not cheap by any means) gets their moneys worth. Sure M1 is fast enough for 85% of people. But what if you just purchase the M3 now and you’ll be good down the road??
@@HeyMarkLI agree with you on this. 8GB of RAM is pathetic. And I’m not sorry to say that. As an indie game dev using Unity my current laptop fluctuates between 5 and 7 GB used with just Unity and 2-3chrome tabs open. Now mind you Unity isn’t native to MacOS so it’s already gonna run weird to an extent. 8GB is technically not enough to create a basic 2D game? Again, Pathetic, and for $1100 no less.

I have a base 13 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. And am considering a 15 inch MacBook m3 16gb with 500-1000gb storage. Would this be considered an upgrade? I really desire the extra screen space for writing papers.
Yes, good choice if you need more screen area. 15" Air is still not that heavy, less than 14" MBP. Also go for 16/512, and you are set for the next 4-5 years or more...
If you prefer portability, even AIR 13.6" is fine. Little bit more screen area compared to 13.3 MBP (height of status bar gained) and it is lightest AIR since ever.
Definitely a worthy upgrade. Get the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD combo if you want to keep the laptop for 4+ years. It’ll be worth it.

Hi there! Amazing video I loved this! I have a 2018 MacBook Pro pre M1 chip. I have the intel i5 8gb 256 ssd and I’m a photographer. I’m looking to upgrade but just need some guidance. I have the budget for the M3 Air base model, and I’m going travelling as well for a long time so working on the go. Is the M3 Air miles better than my pro? I know it is but would love some reassurance
thousand miles better for sure!! Would highly recommend saving the $$$ and get the 512/16GB

Do you think the 8gb 256ssd would get bogged down with more simple workloads? I’m a photographer so stills only in Lightroom and photoshop, and I’m a teacher so I teach online too, some feedback is mixed about the 8gb of Ram not being fast enough?

You can return the M2 MacBook Air if you JUST purchased it yesterday, and buy the M3 Air for a bit more money, but the upgrades overall will be better not just SSD speeds. You can still buy external SSD's like Samsung T7/T9 and store files on it and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to run applications off an external SSD's. It might hinder performance.

It doesn't matter how much Apple people pay for their machines, they'll still find ways to drop it.
I do like the way Apple's created their own "issue" by fanless... Now every single person when reviewer has to make sure everyone knows "this is fanless and may get warm/hot", something that was unheard of before...
No matter how may times i hear that, i still think being 'fanless Mac" is a market gimmick.. Thumbing their nose to Intel and saying "Look what we can do" That all it is...
Its good that Apple can prove something, but by doing so, they set themselves up for this saying.
I’m a student who uses Google docs over Word. I plan on using my laptop for mainly school work. Would a base model be fine? Should I go M2 or M3? I still have 6 years left in school
If you’re not doing tons of video editing or software development work, I’d go with the M2 and use the $ you save by not buying the M3 to upgrade the RAM to 16GB. You’d get more value out of doing that than you would by getting the M3. And yes, that would see you through school.

Honestly, got the MacBook Air M3 16gb 512gb and it’s great but when I edit videos in Adobe Premiere Pro i feel it has somewhat a struggle.
imho the issue of Adobe not optimised sw

Not that I’ve noticed yet. But if you’re coming from M3 Max or even M3 Pro like me, you’ll notice it is *slightly* bit slower… but that’s okay! The lightweight design is great and it’s still very fast.

M3 MacBook Air! But it really depends on what you do and what you want. iPad has so many apps available and 'can' be a computer. But if you see yourself on a proper computer more, the M3 Air is a solid choice.
There's no cooling fan fo M3 Mac Air. So what do u think if I use M3 Air for video editing by using premier pro and davinci resolve?
Been using M3 Air as my primary computer but editing in Final Cut and it’s doable. Stutters here and there with super heavy 4K clips, but for davinci, you might wanna do M3 Pro or M3 Max.

yeah seems like a popular option for creators and students honestly. Nope, I still have mine and will end up keeping this until M6 most likely or hand it down to family.

This can handle my videos just fine with multiple heavy plugins just fine. So yes.
@@HeyMarkL I keep getting mixed remarks regarding over-heating cuz fanless. But I guess I'd have to have insanely bloated timelines at 8k etc.
@@DreamHomesWithAlexthere is no overheating, throttling is good thing, and it throttles more than M2 on purpose by design. So the temps are lower and still faster 10-15% than M2 when it happens.

How do you enable/disable voice isolation ?
When you’re on a call there should be a yellow microphone icon on the menu bar near the notch and you just click it and switch to voice isolation.
Honest opinion on 24gb RAM to upgrade vs 16gb?
Big difference for me, as I’m editing video and mixing audio at the same time.

I think M3 in the long run will ultimately be better. SSD performance is similar to M2 with that config.

i see frame stutters. what is 1300MB/s ??? nowerdays? mini pc's can do easily up 3500 to 6500 MB/s
There will most certainly be stutters here and there IF you push this laptop to do heavy intensive tasks. Yup there are PC's that can absolutely do up to 6500MB/s with PCIE GEN 4/5 and while M3 Air can't get up to 6000MB/s yet, the M3 Pro/M3 Max with 1TB or higher can for sure (I've tested it with my own M3 Max).
M2 air 16gb or m3 macbook 8gb which would you pick ?
You can probably go the M2 Air route with 16GB IF you're getting at least 512GB SSD. The SSD's on M2 if lower than 512GB SSD is a little slow for 2024.

Hows the performance of the Air in Lightroom Classic ?? An Event Photographers usage of 500-1000 photos, scrolling through them, editing, puting presets, etc .. Does it not lag ?? Or should I really go with a Pro 14 ?? The reason I'm asking is because I have a Desktop at home but I need an on the go laptop to lug around with me from house to office to coffee shop to be able to finish editing photos anytime anywhere .. I know import & exports times are faster in the Pro 14 but I can do that in my Desktop through my external ssd and just purely edit in the Air and do the export when I get home at my Desktop .. What's important is if the Air can handle editing large batch of photos without hiccups or lags ..
I'm not a Lightroom Classic guy, more of a casual Lightroom CC/Mobile kind of guy and don't handle nearly enough photos on a daily basis as you do, but you might want to go for the 14-inch M3 Pro for your workload. That way you'll have similar performance as your desktop, if not better.

Hey so I’m looking to upgrade from my 2015 MacBook Air. I don’t use my MacBook for anything complex, just basic web browsing, watching movies, and FaceTiming. I’ve heard that for basic things I should just get the M1 or M2, but since I won’t be upgrading for a while (5-8 years), would you recommend getting the M3?

It really is unfortunately but there’s always that $1499 version. Pro tip. Check Best Buy or Amazon. Sometimes they’re $100-$200 off.

M1 is one the most shit processor made ever by Apple, please don't compare M3 with M1. Honestly, Apple is way behind in terms of CPU speed. Unfortunately, their computers are made for home users.
It’s NOT at all perfect. It is a complete ripoff…. As ALL the M based Airs are. Paying that much for a laptop without active cooling is absurd. Look at how much more Apple demands you fork over, just to get such a basic addition, that most other laptops in that price range have. Hell! Even the old Intel i5 Airs, had a fan, and still were at that $1000 price target… Apple is literally ripping everyone off. The Air is a value EXTRACTION product for Apple. Not a value provider. The old “pro” version of the Air, that Apple dropped after the M2, should be the low end standard.
Paying that much? Someone sounds like a cheapskate. I use my employee discount and got my M3 air for $570 new.

That should be plenty enough for software development work. I’m not sure how intense your workflow is but that should do it. Only concern is SSD, I’d go at least 1TB

It’s 3000MB/s tho. That’s fast lol. Base storage is a bit less than that.
