Indeed you are correct about baseline models. As an audio professional I have completed several projects using a base model 2013 MacBook Air with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Projects were stored on an external drive and the internal drive used exclusively for the OS and its applications. That laptop is still running flawlessly today. Fast forward to 2023 when I purchased my M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Performance is flawless and the value is unmatched. This laptop has been recommended by almost everyone in the tech industry over the M2 MacBook Air as the best laptop to buy in 2020-2024 until Apple removed it from their website. M2 runs hotter and is less efficient than M1 making its gains negligible in the chassis of a fan-less MacBook Air. With the M3 MacBook Air, Apple has improved upon the shortcomings of the M2 MacBook Air. They have brought back dual nand chips for SSD speeds compatible to the M1 MacBook Air and with the new 3 nanometer architecture of the M3, efficiency and thermal performance have improved. In my experience, the M2 MacBook Air is the one to skip. If you are looking for value and performance, get the M1 MacBook Air and if you are looking for the latest, get the M3 MacBook Air. Both machines in their base configuration are fully capable of professional audio, video and photo editing.

I am not sure whether to gwt the base model since considering the evolution of apps and even future Mac OS upgrades, I am not sure if 8 GB would be sufficient even in the long run. Can anyone please guide me?
Great review, thank you to talk about Real live issues and not about Benchmarks only. And it helped my to make decide what to get in Sept. Only question, should we wait of a M4 Air?
I'll second your opinion on baseline. The issue, I suppose, is the concern about bleedover into storage with swapping. Literally all of my professional work is in the cloud. Either building in a CRM platform, using google office suite, and using messaging apps. For me, internet speed and storage speed are far more important than RAM.

Every single youtuber i've seen say the macbook air with 8gb is "Good enough" do NOT themselves use it and use the maxed out pro versions. Also it can do 80% of tasks?? if 100% of what you do is web browsing then yes, the air can do 80% of it. Everything else from compiling code, to even running apples own apps like final cut or xcode struggle to run on the base air models. Other than the looks the air is just a web browsing/note taking machine. But its excellent at that!
@@ThisIsE Agree to disagree!😊 I was just speaking from experience. When I run Xcode iOS simulator for react native work or compile relatively large code on IntelliJ my m1 air base model heats up to over 100 Celsius and throttles like crazy. Hey! I am looking into getting a new laptop for mostly office work. I am tempted to get the MBP instead of the MBA because of the better screen, will it make a noticeable difference for most content?
Hey, as a person who is used to a 144hz display I would say its extremely useless. Its smooth and nice, ill give an example of my dad, he bought a MBP for the touch bar and guess what, he barely used it. How surprising, i would say save the money and invest that instead.
Lets play a mindgame: U pay 1000€ for the base model. In 2-3 years, ur battery on daily use loses about 20% of its max capacity so u cant use it that long wo charging anymore. This bothers u, so u resell and switch to the new model with 100% again. Scenario 2: U spent ur money getting the best of the best (4-5000€) on a product that within 2-3 years of daily use loses … oh 😮😂 Get the point? (resell value) It doesn’t matter how much u spent. Battery degeneration can’t be prevented so I prefer swapping out more often ❤

I am not sure whether to gwt the base model since considering the evolution of apps and even future Mac OS upgrades, I am not sure if 8 GB would be sufficient even in the long run. Can anyone please guide me?
Should I get the 16gb RAM M3 air due to Apple intelligence potentially requiring 16gb for some AI features down the line? Thanks !
We are yet to discover what Apple Intelligence will really require
Great review, thank you to talk about Real live issues and not about Benchmarks only. And it helped my to make decide what to get in Sept. Only question, should we wait of a M4 Air?
Hi Armin, It's gonna be a year ish or so before that happens. I wouldn't wait.
GREAT editing in this video. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks for the great video and review!
Glad it was helpful!
I'll second your opinion on baseline. The issue, I suppose, is the concern about bleedover into storage with swapping. Literally all of my professional work is in the cloud. Either building in a CRM platform, using google office suite, and using messaging apps. For me, internet speed and storage speed are far more important than RAM.
wifi 6e 🤘
@@ThisIsE Here's an idea, if you can figure out how to do it (I've had 0 luck). A TRULY transparent widget. I get making a widget that matches wall paper for 'transparency'. But I'm thinking about something that's see through. I.E. being able to have weather wallpaper up, and when conditions change, you don't wind up with a misaligned mess on the widget area. I'm digging into widgy tutorials this morning to see what I come up with. But, I can't be the first person asking this.
I have the 8GB M3 Air, and I'm in love with it. It's a beast! 🎉
where did you use it for? just curious. Planning to buy the same as yours
Great video and as always, awesome editting. Gotta ask though, what's the name of the sling / bag you pulled to laptop out from at the beginning. Loving it so much. Got any links or reviews on it?
Bag was pretty dope…. Curious as well.
Thinking about trading my m2 mini and m2 15 in air for an m3 air since it can support two monitors
Brother, this is the first video ever of yours that I've seen. INSTANT subscription, I love your style and the soundtrack is just fire. Great content, need to go back and watch your other videos now!
Awesome, thank you!
Explaied what my innerself asked.
Lot of thanks ❤
My pleasure
Don't know if the "nit-pick" pun was intentional but I loved it😂
Every single youtuber i've seen say the macbook air with 8gb is "Good enough" do NOT themselves use it and use the maxed out pro versions.
Couldn’t disagree more 👍
@@ThisIsE Agree to disagree!😊 I was just speaking from experience. When I run Xcode iOS simulator for react native work or compile relatively large code on IntelliJ my m1 air base model heats up to over 100 Celsius and throttles like crazy. Not to mention it uses an insane amount of swap memory from the ssd. I think it’s time to upgrade lol.
I’ll still keep using it for very basic tasks like spreadsheets of watching videos
Love the music
A refreshing perspective with rational and practical reasoning for baseline machine. However, it is heavily based on qualitative data rather than quantitative and statistical base analysis. But I do like to see more of your opinion in the future 👍
i got the m2 air 2 days now and im impressed with it
new studio looks sick, do a tour
Thanks.
I consider 16 GB of RAM to be a minimum in 2024.
One of the best review on RUclips about M3 Air Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰 ❤
Thank you!
For roughly the same price. A refurbished M1 Pro 14” 16/512 or a new M3 MBA base spec? Which is the better option. Looking to get one.
I need the answer too
Tough choice. M1 specifically is really good, so perhaps it’s a better option
Should I go to with a 13” or 15” M3 MacBook Air?
13"
@@g.o.9513 why?
@@D37fit the small form factor is easier to transport - single reason.
Great review and I love the editing!
Excellent video yet again mr. E! I am also suspicious you are into Salsa music :), are taking salsa classes? God bless Mr. E!👍
Very good video. I'm sold
Thank you
A best video ❤ love it 🎉
Glad you liked it!!
Hey amazing video as always but eould you recommend the m4 ipad pro
Coming soon
have it for 2 months, its amazing!!
Awesome video! 👏 Keep up the amazing work
Thank you! Will do!
Is a baseline macbook air m3 enough to run the following:
1. Parallels w/ Windows 11
2. Excel
3. Power BI / Tableau
4. SQL software
5. Python related software / tool
I'm a college student and I wanted to learn these tools and acquire skills needed for academics. Will the baseline model suffice? Or I'm better off with tje 16GB RAM one?
Thanks
I think the 16Gb model is preferable if you want to make full use of it, as it will serve you well in the long term.
Great video, may I ask whats that keyboard at 11:15
Thank you. That's the Logitech MX Mini
@@ThisIsE Thank you
Awesome content, Great wallpaper
Thank you
Hey, great content!
Could you please let me know what is the brand of the brown leather backpack in the video?
Thanks! It's by Harber London
Sorry, but I don't get it. I got the M3 MacBook Air 16GB and when I tried to reduce an image size in Preview from 9000px to 4000px, the spinning wheel appeared for 10-15 minutes. How is that supposed to be a powerful computer? That makes zero sense to me!
I'm not sure what software you use, but you should have no issues with optimized M apps like Affinity Photo.
@@ThisIsE I used Preview...
8gb ram really enough for office work plus 7-8 tabs of google chrome? working with ms office and online quickbook webbase
It’s a breeze
Music was banging on this video.
Banging good or banging bad?
Banging very good !
great video. I am today still amaze how base M1 Air still a better option compare to windows machine. But I think at least Apple could bump up the Ram to 12gb to avoid the swap memory issue
For my work air is not acceptable but, I see Zoom H4 Essential. Are you satisfied with the Zoom H4 Essential?
Even the baseline models are the most expensive laptops for Polish standards :D
Let me know when they remove the notch. Thank you.
Hey! I am looking into getting a new laptop for mostly office work. I am tempted to get the MBP instead of the MBA because of the better screen, will it make a noticeable difference for most content?
Honestly, I don't think so
Hey, as a person who is used to a 144hz display I would say its extremely useless. Its smooth and nice, ill give an example of my dad, he bought a MBP for the touch bar and guess what, he barely used it. How surprising, i would say save the money and invest that instead.
@@steamerbansal8265so which one do u suggest?
Not only faster ssd speed and Wifi, also M3 has better low power mode performance than M2 models
✨ How people are using there 2013 macbooks? How do they get OS update and how the new app works in a 2013 MacBook?
they're probably considering an upgrade
I've found if you're an actual pro you just care about if it's fast and does your thing well.
is 8GB Enough to run Adobe LightRoom + Photoshop?
I think the 16Gb model is preferable if you want to make full use of it, as it will serve you well in the long term.
Enough, buddy. Just remember the limits of it. 8gb of MBAs are nearly equal to 16gb RAM of Windows laptops out there.
@@lanceharveyberber-xw2bk you’re clearly wrong buddy
What is the dock you are using to connect to two displays at 2:18?
Lets play a mindgame:
U pay 1000€ for the base model. In 2-3 years, ur battery on daily use loses about 20% of its max capacity so u cant use it that long wo charging anymore. This bothers u, so u resell and switch to the new model with 100% again.
Scenario 2: U spent ur money getting the best of the best (4-5000€) on a product that within 2-3 years of daily use loses … oh 😮😂
Get the point? (resell value)
It doesn’t matter how much u spent. Battery degeneration can’t be prevented so I prefer swapping out more often ❤
If I am doing Speech and Debate could have 5+ huge word documents all open at the same time all of which could be 50+ pages will it run fine with 8GB of Memory or should I definitely upgrade to 16Gb?
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video edition bro
I use a base a M2 MBA it is my main machine despite I have an iMac at home but this machine is amazing especially when you are on the go. I cannot wait to upgrade to M4 those Air are so capable now if you want to pro go to M Pro or M Max line-up the base Pro is quite the same as the Air.
They are indeed very capable
the video was so good to watch ngl
Thank you!
Great video E🎉
Thanks! 😁
