This iPad launching later with some improvements yet some gimping compared to the 12.9 was very weird. As far as I remember en 2017 version got feature parity and has been since (except for mini LED exclusive on bigger iPad)

i have an ipad air 2 but its very slow and runs very hot on ios 15.8. i wonder how it was like with ios 8.1. ios 8.1 was the version it came with in 2014. the air 2 also has 2gb of memory (the memory sppeds are slow too) and it has a 3 core cpu the A8X which always ran hot when i played heavy games on it but now on ios 15.8 with the newest versions of every app, it cannot handle it and doesnt reach its peak performance it needs to stay in a throttled state all the time to keep the side of the ipad in safe temps. the battery does last 4 hours or so (the battery life was rated for up to(?) 10 hours on release so it was never good i guess) if you are patient enough to let it charge on 5-10 watts. it doesnt do higher than 5 volts so it needs a charger that can do 3 amps to not lose battery while charging becuse the cpu needs to work at its highest all the time to do anything. you cant run more than one app at a time either if you get out of an app and go into another then back to the app you just left, it needs to restart the app because ios 15 needs more ram than 2gb and wasnt designed to run on such low memory devices. mutli tasking with apps side by side isnt a thing if i try it it just gets unusable slow then locks up. i also remember updating my air 2 to ios 10 and it seemed weird but diffrent to me with the clock on the side. i missed that after the updtae to ios 11

I bought the EXACT same ipad (same colour and capacity) 3 weeks ago in a flea market untested, seller asked 30$ but got it down for 20. The ipad showed no signs of live but decided to pick it up because it was in a really good condition, but the main reason was because when I searched up its model number on a website, it showed that find my ipad was off. Then I went back home, connected the charger and luckily the ipad started charging! Then, after around 40 minutes, the ipad decided to finally boot up, it took so long because the ipad's battery was fully drained. I had to reset it via iTunes because the previous owner's information was still there, including the lock screen password that I didn't know, and iTunes forced me to download the latest iOS version, so saddly I don't know which iOS version it had before i reseted it. But luckily, after it reseted and downloaded the latest iOS version, it worked flawlessly without any issues! The volume buttons were a but sticky but i cleaned them with a wet wipe and now they work perfectly. Fun fact: when the ipad first booted up, the date showed that it was Thursday, 20th August, then I searched it and found that date related to 2020, so probably that ipad hasn't been turned on since then, so maybe it had iOS 13 before updating it, guess we will never know...

I am still using the the iPad 6th gen from mid 2019 after the iPad 4th gen I think I should upgrade to the iPad 11th generation which I think it will come in October due to the iPad 6th gen not getting iOS 18
