It is extremely easy to know if it is a 4S or 4. Simply look at the top of the phone, if there’s an antenna band next to the headphone jack, it’s a 4. If there is no antenna band on the top of the phone, it’s a 4S.
If it was iOS 5.0.X it would ask you to update to 6.1.3 thats how you can downgrade to it untethered on the A5 aswell. The iPhone 4S is ditinguishable by the antenna line at the top not present like the iPhone 4
If I was to make a request, see if you can buy a 2016 iPhone SE 1ST Gen. Lot, basically a bunch of 2016 iPhone SE 1ST Gens. for one Price, hopefully all 4 Colors of Space Gray, Silver, Gold, & Rose Gold, & which iOS Versions they’d be running on, hopefully the original iOS Version that came with the 2016 iPhone SE 1ST Gen.. Perhaps to see of doing the same & buying an iPhone 5C Lot alongside, basically a bunch of iPhone 5C’s for one Price, hopefully all 5 Colors of White, Pink, Yellow, Green, & Blue, & which iOS Versions they’d be running on as well, hopefully the original iOS Version that came with the iPhone 5C. That would be my request, for now, to see on here.

There's a variation of the iPhone 4 that has iPhone 4S-like antenna bands, but that version of the iPhone 4 also has no SIM card slot.
