This monitor is also available in 4K, but then only 60Hz, not 120. However, if you use a Mac, you don't want 4K at 27". At 27-28", you want either 2.5K or 5K. If you want 4K with a Mac, go up to 34-42". Fractional display scaling in Mac is atrocious.

I use a Dell G3223Q 32” 4K@144hz HDR600 monitor and a Caldigit TS4 dock with my MacBook Pro and Windows PC. I’ve tried 1440P and I cannot stand how much worse it looks compared to 4K

May I ask how is your monitor setup specifically with your MacBook pro working out, and if you played any games on it just to test out what you can squeeze out of your 144hz refresh rate. What software do you mostly benefit from when using that resolution and 144hz?
@ I’m a university student so I dabble in coding, engineering software and CAD etc. 4K at 32inches just makes everything very clear and sharp from the UI to text and motion with 144hz. I have played some Minecraft with shaders and tried some windows games through crossover, all look amazing on the monitor, and the MacBook also supports variable refresh rate from 48-144hz on my monitor. You need a good quality dock, the caldigit TS4 works the best with my M2 Pro 16” MacBook Pro
This monitor has been out for almost a year. I’ve been patiently waiting to see if they will release a u2725de that offers a 4k variant at 60Hz or TB5 or a 10GbE option. Everything about these monitors is exemplary. I/O (Thunderbolt!), a KVM, sleek design and performance… hell I even appreciate the 120Hz! But I can see why they stopped there unfortunately. 120Hz 4k would pretty much saturate a Thunderbolt 4 connection (if you’re using 10 bit color) and for anyone looking to use the I/O on the ports at full speed it’ll be limited with a cap of 40Gbps if your aim is to use a single port. And that is just for a single monitor.. imagine trying to use two! Thunderbolt 5 is so new that implementing it will take a while if at all, but won’t leave a whole lot of extra bandwidth if you were to theoretically run 2x 4k 120Hz at 10bit. About ~10Gbps to spare (which in most cases is fine but what’s the point of having 10Gbps I/O if you can only use one of them at full speed at a time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) Honestly, this monitor has been on my radar all year and I do intend to get it. I would much prefer 4k over 1440p, but as a photographer that uses a Mac for my own work, PC for my other, and want a single cable solution from my laptop(s) to the setup… this is almost perfect
The camera is about 10cm (4 inches) away from the screen in that comparison. If you’re sitting the appropriate distance away from the monitor the difference is significantly less noticeable (for me at least).

It's clearly extremely close to the monitor, and there is clearly a difference, but it's not night and day like 4K evangelicals would lead you to believe.
I have a dough 4k 144hz monitor with my Macbook M3 Max. I will say if your machine is great, you don't have to worry about the GPU performance, and scaling looks find, noticeably sharper than my QHD Asus Proart monitor. But I will say what it really affects is the programs you run. For example, I use Davinci Resolve and for some time the UI didn't understand the non-native scaling, and the curser would jump around and menus would pop up in different parts of the screen. It was really annoying. And sometimes the scaling would reset randomly and your open programs would be scattered. To avoid those hiccups, yes QHD is is the way to go. Before I got the Dough, this Dell u2724DE was very tempting but I couldn't find many reviews on it. This video would've definitely tipped me toward it 🙌🏽
I have the same Dough monitor, but the newer 1440p version. The screen is actually comparable to the U2724DE despite the Dough being OLED (I noticed this while gaming). Dell has come a long way with their panels. I like the Dough, but the USB-hub and KVM in the Dell is just soooo good that I'm not sure if I would go back.
Funny, I just ordered this 2 days ago, coming tomorrow. I'm actually changing my OLED for this, since I need the builtin KVM convenience, and miss the 27" size.
I got rid of my 4K 144Hz OLED and replaced it with this. The USB Hub and KVM were just too good and I honestly (surprisingly) don't mind the 1440p resolution.
As a desktop Mac user who is doing mainly office / development work (editors, shell, ...) - what is the benefit of having 120Hz monitor while most of the time watching static screen? Putting aside slightly higher power drain when on 120Hz (I'm guessing it shouldn't be more than +10% when in 120Hz). Asking without irony - just curios as none of my displays has >60 Hz.
For me personally it's very jarring because I use my 120Hz MacBook ProMotion screen to the left, and my monitor in the centre (like in the video). I notice the difference in refresh rates immediately and it almost makes me feel a bit ill switching between the two. You are correct in thinking that if the screen is static you won't notice the higher refresh rate. But whenever your mouse moves around, you scroll, move apps around, or introduce ANY motion, you will immediately notice it. And that's before any gaming. There are a lot of people who either game casually on their Mac, or have a secondary Windows machine at their desk. This monitor is great for those dual-setup situations.

It's a good budget alternative. Note that I would budget around $150-$200 for a good desktop dock. So if you do need a dock, and don't have one already, the U2724DE (or the 4K U2723QE) might actually make more financial sense. I've completely replaced my desktop dock with my U2724DE.

I have a Huawei Mateview 28“ 4K and it works perfectly fine with my MacOS… you people are overdramatizing, there isn‘t any issue in daily use. Still much better than any crappy 1440p screen.
27inch 4k monitors are best... 1440p 27inch monitors are bad for mac. if you use native 1440p in macos the texts and icons will be so small but when you use 4k monitor and set it to 1080p hidpi resolution evertthing gets sharp and clear.
This objectively IS NOT the best Mac monitor. Due to Mac's own speciality resolutions and lack anti-aliasing for text, you are going to get jagged edges and things will look fuzzy. At 27 inches you need to go to a 4k monitor and scale to 1440p in order to get the sharpest display.
@@BlueHawk80 I also own one. That's how I know it looks like crap. You don't need to spend anywhere near $1600 on a Studio display. You couls spend as little as $300 for any QHD display or $800 for the Asus ProArt 5K monitor that uses the exact same panel as the Studio Display.

I went to Dell's website and it seems that it has some crazy differences based on if you choose the 1440p and 4k, such as the Power Delivery of 90W. on The 1440p you can add it as extra bed that increases the price by a lot Which is also the case if you choose IPS vs IPS Black , which you loose PremierColor I believe those things should have been highlighted here. They are not small differences 1. on the 1440pvs4k . the less of a difference seemed to prove you wrong when you showed the Text comparison though. That ia a huge difference. 2. On the comparison you left out the most important candidate the Gigabyte U27 which has KVM and a few ports, but most important it has 4k@120Hz. Which is a serious omission from the Dell. Dell seems to have gone half way here.
Website differences: You cannot choose "1440p OR 4K". They are completely different monitors. Just like if you choose IPS vs IPS Black. Dell's website sucks and doesn't make this obvious. Make sure you check the model name in the right corner after clicking on a different option. 1. That comparison was with the camera less than 10cm (4 inches) away from the screen. At normal viewing distance the difference is much less noticeable, but this is impossible to demonstrate in a RUclips video. 2. True, I could have compared the U27. But I have never personally owned or used it so didn't want to include it as an alternative in this video. All the other monitors I compared I've extensively used and tested. Maybe I will review the U27 in the future though.

I would like to buy a Mac Mini M4, but I'm worried that my display might not be properly adjusted. There are so many different opinions about displays that I no longer know what’s true, especially related to problems with 4K 32" monitors. I’m not sure if a 32-inch display with 140 PPI will have sharp text and no scaling issues. I am confused, but for sure build KVM is the best thing and I can't work without that feature.
If you read texts daily, I would not recommend a 32" 4K monitor. Way too pixelated for reading. Photographers I know need that size and don't bother about PPI. 27" 4K monitor is best at the moment for the price you pay. It's sharp enough cos you naturally sit further away from a desktop monitor as compared to a laptop. 27" 5K is a luxury item.
I'm a subscriber and I always enjoy your videos and the amount of work you put into them. However, as a professional designer, production artist and retoucher; no 5K, no deal. I don't care about 120Hz at all. All I care about is 5K, P3 color +, at least 500 nit brightness, and excellent, Apple-level build quality. Unfortunately there are only a few displays that possess those qualities and Apple makes two of them. This Dell by comparison is dim at only 350 nits, pixlelated at only 1440p, and it's plastic. Like the $1500 5K2K LG monitor I own, any time you touch your keyboard or move your mouse or possibly even roll your chair around, the whole display wobbles. That's unacceptable.
To be fair I think this monitor really shines when used in a dual Mac/PC setup. If you are 100% Mac-based (and can afford the $1599 USD price tag), the Studio Display is "better". At 1/4 the price though, this monitor is hard to beat!
I've owned many Dell monitors and one thing I continue to hate is the port placement, making accessibility very difficult and frustrating if you switch cables or move monitor from room to room a fair bit. if inly Dell would put the whole port block on a bar that rotates 90º to face directly out so you can read/see/find then port you are looking for.
I have used mac on both 4k and 1440p, I wonder who in their right mind wouldn't notice a huge difference. It's night and day difference, it's steak vs dog poo really.
I relatively recently picked up the Alienware AW3225QF 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor. I've seen the Studio and Pro Display XDR monitors in stores and honestly, I don't understand why people find the scaling on those monitors so much better. Especially when considering the Alienware is so much cheaper and better for gaming and HDR, plus 240Hz, it's very difficult for me to justify Apple's displays. 🤷♂
@ That’s totally fair! Asus has another one that I looked at with the same panel that isn’t curved which’ll be better for some people. Personally never found the curve to be an issue. This is my second curved monitor.

1. KVM means that when you switch the display input, it automatically connects the USB hub to that computer so your keyboard, mouse, and network travel to the computer you're using. 2. Huawei doesn't exist in North America.
And then there is the ASUS ProArt Display 27” 4K (PA279CRV), w/USB-C PD 96W, DisplayPort, Daisy-Chain, but then only 60 Hz Quest never ends it seems... Where's the perfect 120 Hz 4k+ monitor for Mac in the $500 range is still the question.
You can have high refresh rate, color accurate, and affordable. Pick 1.5. Dell chose color accurate and semi-affordable; well, actually LG because they made the panel.
120Hz+ 5K: Doesn't exist (although that may change next year) 120Hz+ 4K: Most people don't have powerful enough GPUs to run their games at 4K 120Hz, so it's kind of a waste. Doesn't scale perfectly with macOS. 120Hz+ 1440p: Much easier to run games at a higher FPS, scales with macOS perfectly, and is cheaper than 4K. Pick one.
Any suggestions on a proper “gaming” monitor to pair with this? Currently have a Samsung Odyssey G7 that I could use (and likely would for the time being) but feel like the two paired together would look pretty bad.
They have to make a 5k. Especially now that Asus and Benq just entered into the 5k resolution. This is the best looking non Apple monitor, but not an option at 2k in 2025.
@@Poepopdestoep For me macOS 4K 1440p-like scaling has this uncanny blur on fonts which drives me crazy. After pixel perfect rendering in Windows and Linux its quite noticeable.
I hate to say this, because I love the sharpness that 1440p 27" monitors have, but for MacOS, if you are dealing with a lot of text, as I am, it is not enough. At least in my experience. I have been using a 1440p monitor for the past 2 years with MacOS and I hated the way text looked, because apparently Apple removed clear text for non-retina displays(according to them 1440p at 27" is LowDPI). I just got a 4K 27" monitor today and the difference is huge. No more pixelated, blurry and weird looking text... And the 1440p scaling works fine with 2017 and 2019 macbook pros with dedicated gpus, the gpu barely uses 2 or 3 more Watts. But this might not be the preference for everyone, I got the 4k display for really cheap, so I recommend everyone to go to a tech shop close to you with your macbook and ask the employees to let you test the displays. Just test the resolution, then choose the actual monitor you want to buy based on reviews. Hope this helps.
I agree. 1440p for 27" is not enough. I got a studio display and frequently switch from 5K (2880p) to 1440p (low resolution) for gaming when the game does not support resolution scaling. The difference in text rendering is huge.
Unfortunately, fractional scaling is also atrocious on Mac OS. IMO, at this display size, 4K is worse than 2.5K. You really have to step all the way up to 5K to solve the problem. Or maybe a 32-34" 4K monitor could work.
I guess it's just personal preference at the end of the day, the opinions on this matter are diverse. That's why seeing which res you prefer in person is really something people must do when choosing a monitor.
Haven't used it myself, but it looks decent. I'm not sure if it's quite "budget" compared to the U2724DE though. I'd rather pay a bit more and get the Dell tbh, you get way more functionality.
So happy this review came out, I’ve been searching for weeks what monitors to buy for my new desk at home and the U2724DE (+D) kept staying at the top of my list. Only thing I was a bit worried about is the 1440p, but there really aren’t that many alternatives with all of the U2724DE’s specs AND 4K. Lucky your review came out just before BF 2024! I agree with you, at ~80cm viewing distance, 1440p 27” should be “Retina” quality i.e. no individual pixels to be seen. At least according to the information on perceived Retina quality. I do love the 4K elitism in the comments here lol
I was not expecting all the anti-1440p hate that this video got 😂. The reality is that EVERY monitor choice for Mac has compromises. 5K? Only 60Hz. 4K and 144Hz? Don't have the same color accuracy and ports etc. Literally every monitor has 1-2 big compromises. For me 1440p just wasn't a big enough deal breaker compared to all the other features. And for the price of $444 (probably lower during Black Friday), the U2724DE is extremely competitive. You should also look at BenQ's new 5K monitor before making a decision. 60Hz and less ports, but comparable to this Dell one.

Last weekend I bought Dell U2424HE. It's cheaper, has, ethernet, auto lvm, same 120hz refresh rate, it does not have Thunderbolt, but USB-C with 90W power delivery is enough from my Mac. No IPS Black technology either. One thing that I have noticed is that the monitor has a bigger thickness compared to Dell P2421 that I have. This leaves no room for adjusting xaiomi monitor light bar. I am not sure if this is a case for Dell U2724DE.
Is it possible to daisychain this U2724DE to a P2725HE (or any other monitor) on Mac for a one cable solution either using USB-C or DisplayPort? The P27 doesn't support thunderbolt and I was quite disappointed to find that I can't use the DisplayPort out on the P27 when using MacOS
This monitor is 2.5K aka QHD. 2K would be 1920x1080 aka FHD (or anything close to that). The K number refers to the approximate number of horizontal pixels (K, as in kilo, as in thousand). For some reason a lot of people erroneously think it is a multiple of the total number of pixels in FHD; that coincidentally works for 4K, but not for any other resolution. And yes, at 27" QHD or FHD scale perfectly with Mac because you don't have to scale at all, just use 100%. However, Mac will recognize it as a low DPI display (dots per inch) and intentionally make text look like crap. Going to 4K doesn't really solve the problem because then everything will be tiny, so you have to use fractional 125% or 150% scaling, which also looks like crap because Mac is horrible at fractional scaling. Fractional scaling is so bad on Mac because it doesn't actually scale the image. It lowers the resolution then expects the monitor to do the scaling. But the monitor is going to be horrible at scaling because it has no idea what the image is supposed to look like, it only knows what the smaller image it received from the computer actually looks like. The only true fix is to jump up to a 27-28" 5K monitor and use 200% scaling. Or use a 32-34" 4K monitor and deal with everything being a little bit too small. Or switch to Windows or KDE and save yourself a whole bunch of headaches (and cause yourself a bunch of different headaches).
I'm looking at the BenQ PD2730S: 27", 5k, Thunderbolt 4, 90W power delivery, TB4 out port and others. Its specs match the Apple Studio Display, but at a much lower price. We'll see what the reviews look like.
It matches yes, but differs in one important factor as it doesn't have a glossy panel... Which is quite important for people who prefer the Studio Display!
@@krunge Absolutely. The ASD is fantastic. The BenQ has a "nano matte panel", so we'll see what that looks like when the reviews come out. The ASD has a glossy panel by default, with a nano texture available as an option. I have a glossy ASD at work. I am in a brightly lit room, and when the ASD is mainly white, I can't see any reflections. When I'm working in FCP (which has a black UI) I can see lots of reflections, but only if I stop looking at the UI, and focus on looking at the reflections. I didn't even notice (or look) until people started talking about the nano coating for the new MacBook Pro. Don't get me wrong, I love my ASD and I love it glossy. The speakers are *good enough* that I stopped using my external Presonus Eris E4.5 pair. I also love my 27" 2017 iMac ash home and its glossy display, but the time has come to replace it with a MBP and I can afford a monitor that ticks most of the boxes of the ASD. I don't need an ASD at home, but I want to get close 🙂. Unless you want to give me some money so I can get the screen I deserve.
I have this monitor. I'll do a review in the next few weeks. It's very good, but some negatives include 60Hz refresh rate (feels awful next to my ProMotion MacBook Pro) and the ports are nowhere near as good as this Dell. Still a very solid monitor and good budget competitor to the Apple Studio Display.
No thanks. Dell. Low PPI so no retina crispness. Ultrasharp? LOL. Low max brightness. Clumsy pile of ports. Typical janky display controls UI. 120Hz is for tech junkies and offers no real advantage for professionals who stare at text/and or images all day. Scrolling is not what productivity minded users care about. This kind of rig is for Windows geekazoids with multiple computers who like gaming and fiddling more than making a living while reducing eyestrain. In this regard, Apple Studio Display is a way better deal than this.
I used that one last year. They're very close and comparable, but I prefer the Dell. I am enjoying the increased ports on the back and also 120Hz next to my MacBook Pro screen.

Ah yes, the magical 5K 120Hz display. That doesn't even exist yet, may not exist for several more years, will need Thunderbolt 5 to run (which 99% of Macs currently do not support) and will also cost double or even triple what this Dell costs. Great input!
27" is too small, 1440p isn't good, and even 4K has its own scaling issues with macOS. Unless you get an ultrasharp 5K or 6K, then no, it's not worth it at all.
Scaling could be solved but apple is greedy, 2k would be enough and is cheaper and is clear when using with windows, but apple forces the scaling just to make money.... it doesnt make them better, it just turns buyers away
I don’t see any reason for it. OK, until next iteration of their 4Ks. Latest 5K2K already got 120Hz panel, I hope, next Q series will get too. Those quick access ports are extreme nightmare. You may occasionally plug your USB-C cable into the neighboring USB-A and literally have short circuit. I got the message about high power consumption due to it. Be aware. 4025 already has dropdown ports.

I like that it has symmetric bezels all around and there is no branding on the front of the display.

My example works well enough. It's clearly extremely close to the monitor, and there is clearly a difference, but it's not night and day like 4K evangelicals would lead you to believe.

I have a dough 4k 144hz monitor with my Macbook M3 Max. I will say if your machine is great, you don't have to worry about the GPU performance, and scaling looks find, noticeably sharper than my QHD Asus Proart monitor. But I will say what it really affects is the programs you run. For example, I use Davinci Resolve and for some time the UI didn't understand the non-native scaling, and the curser would jump around and menus would pop up in different parts of the screen. It was really annoying. And sometimes the scaling would reset randomly and your open programs would be scattered.
To avoid those hiccups, yes QHD is is the way to go. Before I got the Dough, this Dell u2724DE was very tempting but I couldn't find many reviews on it. This video would've definitely tipped me toward it 🙌🏽
I have the same Dough monitor, but the newer 1440p version. The screen is actually comparable to the U2724DE despite the Dough being OLED (I noticed this while gaming). Dell has come a long way with their panels. I like the Dough, but the USB-hub and KVM in the Dell is just soooo good that I'm not sure if I would go back.

There is 4K model U2723QE with basically same functions. It only lacks 120 hz panel and TB4 connection that are probably included in 2025 model.
1440p 27" is bad for macOS. It should have 4k 27" 120hz. so you can easily scale monitor resolution to 2x and get sharper text and icons.

Funny, I just ordered this 2 days ago, coming tomorrow. I'm actually changing my OLED for this, since I need the builtin KVM convenience, and miss the 27" size.
I got rid of my 4K 144Hz OLED and replaced it with this. The USB Hub and KVM were just too good and I honestly (surprisingly) don't mind the 1440p resolution.

As a desktop Mac user who is doing mainly office / development work (editors, shell, ...) - what is the benefit of having 120Hz monitor while most of the time watching static screen? Putting aside slightly higher power drain when on 120Hz (I'm guessing it shouldn't be more than +10% when in 120Hz). Asking without irony - just curios as none of my displays has >60 Hz.
For me personally it's very jarring because I use my 120Hz MacBook ProMotion screen to the left, and my monitor in the centre (like in the video). I notice the difference in refresh rates immediately and it almost makes me feel a bit ill switching between the two. You are correct in thinking that if the screen is static you won't notice the higher refresh rate. But whenever your mouse moves around, you scroll, move apps around, or introduce ANY motion, you will immediately notice it.
And that's before any gaming. There are a lot of people who either game casually on their Mac, or have a secondary Windows machine at their desk. This monitor is great for those dual-setup situations.

It's a good budget alternative. Note that I would budget around $150-$200 for a good desktop dock. So if you do need a dock, and don't have one already, the U2724DE (or the 4K U2723QE) might actually make more financial sense. I've completely replaced my desktop dock with my U2724DE.

I have a Huawei Mateview 28“ 4K and it works perfectly fine with my MacOS… you people are overdramatizing, there isn‘t any issue in daily use. Still much better than any crappy 1440p screen.
27inch 4k monitors are best... 1440p 27inch monitors are bad for mac. if you use native 1440p in macos the texts and icons will be so small but when you use 4k monitor and set it to 1080p hidpi resolution evertthing gets sharp and clear.
This objectively IS NOT the best Mac monitor. Due to Mac's own speciality resolutions and lack anti-aliasing for text, you are going to get jagged edges and things will look fuzzy. At 27 inches you need to go to a 4k monitor and scale to 1440p in order to get the sharpest display.
That also looks like crap IMO, fractional scaling is horrible on Mac. You really need to go to 5K.

I went to Dell's website and it seems that it has some crazy differences based on if you choose the 1440p and 4k, such as the Power Delivery of 90W. on The 1440p you can add it as extra bed that increases the price by a lot

2. On the comparison you left out the most important candidate the Gigabyte U27 which has KVM and a few ports, but most important it has 4k@120Hz. Which is a serious omission from the Dell.
Dell seems to have gone half way here.
Website differences: You cannot choose "1440p OR 4K". They are completely different monitors. Just like if you choose IPS vs IPS Black. Dell's website sucks and doesn't make this obvious. Make sure you check the model name in the right corner after clicking on a different option.
1. That comparison was with the camera less than 10cm (4 inches) away from the screen. At normal viewing distance the difference is much less noticeable, but this is impossible to demonstrate in a RUclips video.
2. True, I could have compared the U27. But I have never personally owned or used it so didn't want to include it as an alternative in this video. All the other monitors I compared I've extensively used and tested. Maybe I will review the U27 in the future though.

I love my Dell U2723QE. Such an awesome monitor, and super crisp even at 2k (1440p) res on my 14" MBP M1 Pro. Higher refresh would be nice though.
I would like to buy a Mac Mini M4, but I'm worried that my display might not be properly adjusted. There are so many different opinions about displays that I no longer know what’s true, especially related to problems with 4K 32" monitors. I’m not sure if a 32-inch display with 140 PPI will have sharp text and no scaling issues. I am confused, but for sure build KVM is the best thing and I can't work without that feature.

If you read texts daily, I would not recommend a 32" 4K monitor. Way too pixelated for reading. Photographers I know need that size and don't bother about PPI. 27" 4K monitor is best at the moment for the price you pay. It's sharp enough cos you naturally sit further away from a desktop monitor as compared to a laptop. 27" 5K is a luxury item.

I'm a subscriber and I always enjoy your videos and the amount of work you put into them. However, as a professional designer, production artist and retoucher; no 5K, no deal. I don't care about 120Hz at all. All I care about is 5K, P3 color +, at least 500 nit brightness, and excellent, Apple-level build quality. Unfortunately there are only a few displays that possess those qualities and Apple makes two of them. This Dell by comparison is dim at only 350 nits, pixlelated at only 1440p, and it's plastic. Like the $1500 5K2K LG monitor I own, any time you touch your keyboard or move your mouse or possibly even roll your chair around, the whole display wobbles. That's unacceptable.
To be fair I think this monitor really shines when used in a dual Mac/PC setup. If you are 100% Mac-based (and can afford the $1599 USD price tag), the Studio Display is "better". At 1/4 the price though, this monitor is hard to beat!

I've owned many Dell monitors and one thing I continue to hate is the port placement, making accessibility very difficult and frustrating if you switch cables or move monitor from room to room a fair bit. if inly Dell would put the whole port block on a bar that rotates 90º to face directly out so you can read/see/find then port you are looking for.

I relatively recently picked up the Alienware AW3225QF 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor. I've seen the Studio and Pro Display XDR monitors in stores and honestly, I don't understand why people find the scaling on those monitors so much better. Especially when considering the Alienware is so much cheaper and better for gaming and HDR, plus 240Hz, it's very difficult for me to justify Apple's displays. 🤷♂

1. KVM means that when you switch the display input, it automatically connects the USB hub to that computer so your keyboard, mouse, and network travel to the computer you're using.
2. Huawei doesn't exist in North America.

You can have high refresh rate, color accurate, and affordable. Pick 1.5. Dell chose color accurate and semi-affordable; well, actually LG because they made the panel.
120Hz+ 5K: Doesn't exist (although that may change next year)
120Hz+ 4K: Most people don't have powerful enough GPUs to run their games at 4K 120Hz, so it's kind of a waste. Doesn't scale perfectly with macOS.
120Hz+ 1440p: Much easier to run games at a higher FPS, scales with macOS perfectly, and is cheaper than 4K.

Any suggestions on a proper “gaming” monitor to pair with this? Currently have a Samsung Odyssey G7 that I could use (and likely would for the time being) but feel like the two paired together would look pretty bad.
They have to make a 5k. Especially now that Asus and Benq just entered into the 5k resolution. This is the best looking non Apple monitor, but not an option at 2k in 2025.

Mac renders text sharply only in 2.0 scaling, so only 4k 23" and 5k 27" could be called best. Unfortunately, those are very premium.
I've never had any problem with 4K (32inch) monitors and mac scaling. I have it at default scaling and it looks super sharp without any artefacts.
@@Poepopdestoep For me macOS 4K 1440p-like scaling has this uncanny blur on fonts which drives me crazy. After pixel perfect rendering in Windows and Linux its quite noticeable.

I hate to say this, because I love the sharpness that 1440p 27" monitors have, but for MacOS, if you are dealing with a lot of text, as I am, it is not enough. At least in my experience.
I have been using a 1440p monitor for the past 2 years with MacOS and I hated the way text looked, because apparently Apple removed clear text for non-retina displays(according to them 1440p at 27" is LowDPI).
I just got a 4K 27" monitor today and the difference is huge. No more pixelated, blurry and weird looking text... And the 1440p scaling works fine with 2017 and 2019 macbook pros with dedicated gpus, the gpu barely uses 2 or 3 more Watts.
But this might not be the preference for everyone, I got the 4k display for really cheap, so I recommend everyone to go to a tech shop close to you with your macbook and ask the employees to let you test the displays. Just test the resolution, then choose the actual monitor you want to buy based on reviews.

I agree. 1440p for 27" is not enough. I got a studio display and frequently switch from 5K (2880p) to 1440p (low resolution) for gaming when the game does not support resolution scaling. The difference in text rendering is huge.
I don't get it either. It's pretty well known that QHD monitors look terrible on MacOS.
Unfortunately, fractional scaling is also atrocious on Mac OS. IMO, at this display size, 4K is worse than 2.5K. You really have to step all the way up to 5K to solve the problem. Or maybe a 32-34" 4K monitor could work.
I guess it's just personal preference at the end of the day, the opinions on this matter are diverse.
That's why seeing which res you prefer in person is really something people must do when choosing a monitor.

Haven't used it myself, but it looks decent. I'm not sure if it's quite "budget" compared to the U2724DE though. I'd rather pay a bit more and get the Dell tbh, you get way more functionality.
So happy this review came out, I’ve been searching for weeks what monitors to buy for my new desk at home and the U2724DE (+D) kept staying at the top of my list. Only thing I was a bit worried about is the 1440p, but there really aren’t that many alternatives with all of the U2724DE’s specs AND 4K.
Lucky your review came out just before BF 2024! I agree with you, at ~80cm viewing distance, 1440p 27” should be “Retina” quality i.e. no individual pixels to be seen. At least according to the information on perceived Retina quality.

I was not expecting all the anti-1440p hate that this video got 😂. The reality is that EVERY monitor choice for Mac has compromises. 5K? Only 60Hz. 4K and 144Hz? Don't have the same color accuracy and ports etc. Literally every monitor has 1-2 big compromises.
For me 1440p just wasn't a big enough deal breaker compared to all the other features. And for the price of $444 (probably lower during Black Friday), the U2724DE is extremely competitive.
You should also look at BenQ's new 5K monitor before making a decision. 60Hz and less ports, but comparable to this Dell one.

Last weekend I bought Dell U2424HE. It's cheaper, has, ethernet, auto lvm, same 120hz refresh rate, it does not have Thunderbolt, but USB-C with 90W power delivery is enough from my Mac. No IPS Black technology either. One thing that I have noticed is that the monitor has a bigger thickness compared to Dell P2421 that I have. This leaves no room for adjusting xaiomi monitor light bar. I am not sure if this is a case for Dell U2724DE.
Is that a 24" monitor? How do you find the size? It would be just slightly too small for me. I had a U2414 in 2016 and upgraded to a 27".
24" 1080p is just right for me. It has enough screen for me to focus on one task at the time and text size is is large enough not to strain my eyes.

This monitor is 2.5K aka QHD. 2K would be 1920x1080 aka FHD (or anything close to that). The K number refers to the approximate number of horizontal pixels (K, as in kilo, as in thousand). For some reason a lot of people erroneously think it is a multiple of the total number of pixels in FHD; that coincidentally works for 4K, but not for any other resolution.
And yes, at 27" QHD or FHD scale perfectly with Mac because you don't have to scale at all, just use 100%. However, Mac will recognize it as a low DPI display (dots per inch) and intentionally make text look like crap. Going to 4K doesn't really solve the problem because then everything will be tiny, so you have to use fractional 125% or 150% scaling, which also looks like crap because Mac is horrible at fractional scaling. Fractional scaling is so bad on Mac because it doesn't actually scale the image. It lowers the resolution then expects the monitor to do the scaling. But the monitor is going to be horrible at scaling because it has no idea what the image is supposed to look like, it only knows what the smaller image it received from the computer actually looks like.
The only true fix is to jump up to a 27-28" 5K monitor and use 200% scaling. Or use a 32-34" 4K monitor and deal with everything being a little bit too small. Or switch to Windows or KDE and save yourself a whole bunch of headaches (and cause yourself a bunch of different headaches).
I'm looking at the BenQ PD2730S: 27", 5k, Thunderbolt 4, 90W power delivery, TB4 out port and others. Its specs match the Apple Studio Display, but at a much lower price. We'll see what the reviews look like.

@@krunge Absolutely. The ASD is fantastic. The BenQ has a "nano matte panel", so we'll see what that looks like when the reviews come out. The ASD has a glossy panel by default, with a nano texture available as an option. I have a glossy ASD at work. I am in a brightly lit room, and when the ASD is mainly white, I can't see any reflections. When I'm working in FCP (which has a black UI) I can see lots of reflections, but only if I stop looking at the UI, and focus on looking at the reflections. I didn't even notice (or look) until people started talking about the nano coating for the new MacBook Pro.
Don't get me wrong, I love my ASD and I love it glossy. The speakers are *good enough* that I stopped using my external Presonus Eris E4.5 pair. I also love my 27" 2017 iMac ash home and its glossy display, but the time has come to replace it with a MBP and I can afford a monitor that ticks most of the boxes of the ASD. I don't need an ASD at home, but I want to get close 🙂. Unless you want to give me some money so I can get the screen I deserve.
Only 60 Hz and that doesn't have a glossy finish. If I'm going to use 60 Hz, I'll just stick with my Studio Display.

I have this monitor. I'll do a review in the next few weeks. It's very good, but some negatives include 60Hz refresh rate (feels awful next to my ProMotion MacBook Pro) and the ports are nowhere near as good as this Dell. Still a very solid monitor and good budget competitor to the Apple Studio Display.
No thanks. Dell. Low PPI so no retina crispness. Ultrasharp? LOL. Low max brightness. Clumsy pile of ports. Typical janky display controls UI. 120Hz is for tech junkies and offers no real advantage for professionals who stare at text/and or images all day. Scrolling is not what productivity minded users care about. This kind of rig is for Windows geekazoids with multiple computers who like gaming and fiddling more than making a living while reducing eyestrain. In this regard, Apple Studio Display is a way better deal than this.

I don’t see any reason for it. OK, until next iteration of their 4Ks. Latest 5K2K already got 120Hz panel, I hope, next Q series will get too.
Those quick access ports are extreme nightmare. You may occasionally plug your USB-C cable into the neighboring USB-A and literally have short circuit. I got the message about high power consumption due to it. Be aware. 4025 already has dropdown ports.
