Just found your channel and enjoy the content! Good stuff - 'nuff said!
Thank you very much! We’d love to hear your own opinions on the topic.
I JUST MADE A COMMENT ABOUT WANTING THIS ON ANOTHER VOD! Awesome!!!😎
Hi! I saw your earlier comment pop up on my phone and I was going to suggest you take a look at this video and/or this one about choosing the core rulebook that is best for your game: ruclips.net/video/3IF7jgRRMIk/видео.html But you've found this one already! I hope it helps.
When I remake this video and the core rulebook one, I'm very likely going to put a huge recommendation on the Lower Decks guide because of the amazing resources inside it that I think GMs will greatly benefit from. As I've mentioned to you, the video should be up later this week after editing is finished.
Please don't apologise for being yourself and gushing about something you love. You gave so much helpful information in this video, and I really appreciate it. Subscribed!
I'm especially looking for videos about solo play for STA, as I really would like to give the game a good try as a solo experience, so any info you can give about that would be amazing. I've just finished this video, and now I'm going straight on to read your solo focused review of the game.
Thank you for the kind message! I definitely apologized a lot in the earlier videos because there was plenty to apologize about. I'm getting better, but a long ways away from making streamlined videos.
I appreciate you subscribing and hope that our content here can help, inform or keep you entertained for the duration.
Great guide! I also live in Japan and definitely understand on the exchange rate. Lots of PDFs this year. : )
I’m glad it was useful. Thanks for watching.
The exchange rate is terrible for shopping right now. I only just got my hands on a physical copy of Utopia Planitia (and am actually reading it at this very moment). I used as many discounts as I could get and it still cost about $90.
But what’s done is done. Now preparing to review it!
Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
utopia planitia you could probably use that to upgrade a ship, like make a TMP era Crossfield. They don't have PDFs of these? Could help you with shipping if they do lol
It definitely sounds as if the books will be able to help us make/mod vessels to what we need. I'm looking forward to reading all that it has and the reviews have been outstanding.
There will be a separate PDF for sale once the physical copies are released, so that is a possibility. However, I prefer physical and I *will* get a copy someday, somehow. Also, anyone who preorders the book now will get a free copy of the PDF immediately so it is already available, just not on its own.
thx for this guide! hope you got the pdf or the physical books since...
Thanks. I did get the PDFs and the physical for the Disco guide. I have a review video for that as well but I’m not finished with the Utopia Planitia book yet.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I hope this was useful for you.
@@thefinalfrontiersmen yes really useful. I only got the first edition core rule and the 4 quadrant...thinking to buy something else.. division guide or campaign setting.. the utopia seems also interesting.. I will take a look for your other video so ! :)
Any thoughts on minatures for the game?
Modiphius had an official line of miniatures for the game when it was released, but they are out of print with no plans of producing them again. As the game is really designed to be played via theater of the mind--including combat--miniatures are not necessary at all. But, of course, having a miniature model to represent you, your crew and your starship is always fun.
So while they are not needed for any game play aspect, I do like to use miniatures simply for a visual aid and provide a little more immersion. Currently, we play on Roll20 so I use the online equivalent for the same reasons.
Now, with that said, Modiphius did create rules for a miniatures combat game using their minis called "Red Alert". The rules were included in the Operations Division sourcebook and I think at least one other book as well. I've never actually heard of anyone using it, though there must be a fair number of players out there.
@@thefinalfrontiersmen Thank you for the quick and detailed response! I love Star Trek and am very interested in this game but I'd need to convince my TTRPG group to try it out.
They love minis and two of them are less into role playing and more interested in combat encounters during our DnD games. Knowing there are options for minis and combat make me think it may be possible to run a fun STA game with our group.
@@teacomics Your group might find the Klingon version of the game more fitting if they really want to focus on combat. That's what Klingons excel at, after all. And the Klingon core rule book is a little better written and easier to understand than the original Starfleet core book.
In any case, I hope you and your group have a blast with this game!
@@thefinalfrontiersmen That's a good idea. It did cross my mind that a Klingon-focused game would allow for more combat that wouldn't seem forced narratively.
Maybe my first stop will be at that Klingon core rule book. Thanks for the help.
@@teacomics you could also do a wartime game for the Federation. But a Klingon campaign would at least avoid any concerns about how bloodthirsty the players become.
I hope you all have a great adventure!
Why is the 1701 Collectors Core rulebook not mentioned ?
That's a great question! It has been so long since I made the video, I honestly don't recall why I didn't mention it. Odds are that I intended to mention it when I talked about the Borg Cube boxed set, since that's the version that came with it and it is also out of print. It would definitely not be the first time -- and it certainly wasn't the last -- where I forgot to mention a detail that I planned to bring up.
@@thefinalfrontiersmen .. I have seen a couple of videos about this Star Trek RPG, only once have they ever talked about this before mentioned book.
I'm new to Star Trek (I know what it is, but that's about it) I do consider buying the game.
Do you know if the 1701 Collectors rulebook is "better" easier read and understood than the original/standard ?
@@PpAirO5 The collector's book is the exact same book as the standard. The only difference is the cover art and it has three bookmark ribbons. The interior and content is identical so you miss out on nothing with the standard.
The rules digest and Klingon books are the core books that differ a bit in content, but it's nothing massive. The layout is a bit easier to follow, some of the trickier (seeming) rules are explained a bit better and they have revamped rules for advancement, which I personally prefer.
@@thefinalfrontiersmen.. Okay thanks 👍
@@PpAirO5 And if you're new to Star Trek itself, I also recommend picking up the Gamemaster's Guide as it is a great crash course on Star Trek itself. And the new Lower Decks campaign guide has a very useful chapter dedicated to common Star Trek tropes that appear throughout all the series. Adding those will really help make your games that familiar Star Trek style.
Hope you have a blast with the game! And please share your experiences with us! We'd love to hear how it goes!
lol "instant block opinions".
I didn’t remember saying that but assumed it had something to do with Discovery. So I skipped to that section and sure enough, that was it.
