What's your favorite classic Benz?
190 sl
300SL
280SL Pagoda and 600 Grosser as well. There are many more to list. It’s hard lol
Facelift r107 (86-89) European version.
Modern Classic but the 90s SL500
This is probably what Hoovies garage watches when he needs some "alone time" lol
😆 that would be an absolute honor
@@TedwardDrives but not a surprise, you’re one of the best Tom ❤️
Wasn't Hoovies garage the channel that had like 2 dudes getting arrested for really bad shit?
@@RhodokTribesman yeah, a long time ago, 2 morons decided to steal Hoovie's ML55 AMG, and then he went on a press run trying to get it back because he didn't have full cover insurance on it. Turns out that the dudes were into some sick shit, so they technically didn't go down for Grand Theft Auto, but for the attention that stealing a celeb's car brings
Well, that's a mental image I didn't really want.
You could really tell how much you enjoyed this car based on how little you talked about it while actually driving it.
This is in my top 10 drives. It was so good.
@@TedwardDrives top 10 list?
Was thinking the exact same at about 12 minutes in.
There's nothing like the build quality, reliability and elegance of a classic Mercedes... Up to the early 90's I truly believe no one could make better cars than them. Gotta bring more of these old Mercs, Tedward!
Me and our family have a 2018 mercedes sprinter. It feels like a block of cheese.
Is a 95 e320 Cabriolet too late to be a classic?
@@paulk9985 I think a cabrio W124 can definitely be considered a classic!
@@paulk9985 there are cars that started in 03 that are starting to be considered classics so definitely haha
@@RhodokTribesman wow I was born in 02 my first time feeling what it’s like to be from a part in time where things are considered classics now crazy 😅🤷🏾♂️
Drove an earlier 1960’s Mercedes 190SL once, to this day one of the most special cars I‘ve driven.
I've only ever ridden in a 190SL and it blew me away. I was shocked by the speed and build quality. This era was really something wild for MB
Without question, one of the all-time most elegant, classy pieces of automotive engineering ever. Between these and a 190SL I don’t know which makes me drool more. Thanks for yet another awesome video! Damn... such a beautiful car!
Everything about this car is sublime perfection. Classy and peak roadster design.
This might be in one of my personal top 10 drives. It was so enjoyable.
Omg, the sound of that I6 is intoxicating. What an awesome car.
What a beautiful car. The styling is so classic and the attention to detail. I think older cars make most new cars look so dull.
This is an expression of sophistication and supreme taste without saying a word. No flex, no boast, just fact. The build quality and engineering are just the best.
Exactly!!
This has to be one of the most beautiful models they ever made. It looks wonderful, it sounds amazing! Wow
I can't get enough of this utterly gorgeous angel 😩
I also think he looks sexy but I wouldnt compare him to an angel
hahaha
@@jv5tv515 im talking abt the car but aight 🗿
The vintage car videos are my favorite. The sounds, the looks, what a gorgeous machine.
mercedes’ interiors seem to always be ahead of the curve
OMGosh! The mechancal clicking of doors and latches---the mechanical sound of the engine and gear shifter. What a THRILL to experience this drive with you. Thanks so much for taking me along.
My father had a 1969 250 sedan with this engine. An incredible car that started me down a very expensive love affair with German automobiles
Love the elegant shoe tap before sitting, beautiful car man.
Now that's a car - Quality, Style, Function - Wunderbar!
I love the part where you cruise without commentary. That’s some car enthusiasts ASMR right there. I could literally sleep hearing that engine, the wind, the cars passing by. Its so damn relaxing i can’t stress that enough.
There's something so unadulterated, clean, pure, poetic almost, about driving a classic car... It's a completely different feeling, it's a visceral, tactile, quasi-sexual experience that involves all of the senses.
What
Hope I can experience it asap. I've had it with modern cars. Such pieces of throwaway garbage.
@@AgentCookie1432 😄
Yes you are 100% right. Today's technology is taking away from the experience. Not adding to it.
@@celuiquipeut6527 It really just depends on the cars tbh. Ive driven so many classic cars that just feel like shit because of slop in the steering, slop in the shifter, and spongy, unresponsive suspension. A Honda Fit will feel more connected than a '69 GTO for example, but this isn't always the case (electronic steering is about as bad as a numb old steering rack)
Damn, those revs go down quickly between shifts
the complete opposite of my honda lol
@@TedwardDrives newer ones have Rev hang pretty sure . My 8th gen would lock me out on hard fast shifts and high rpm some times
I'll take it. lol. when i was ten, parents friends , ran a dealership in Worcester, (1975) , they carried Mercedes, and Fiat. He was the manager there, and came home with new mercedes every day. The 450 SL, sold for at that time, was 25 grand. I had a blast with the wife, as she would drive everywhere. Had a brother who was a machanic, worked on many foreign cars,,,, old ones as well. In your drive, i finally knew where you were, lol. (i'm in Worcester) love the backish roads so much. (i want your job, lol)
Wow - this early 250 SL with all these nice 230 SLs specs, in that condition + ZF 5-speed is unique
I have lusted over this car since I first caught sight of it. Never knew it was available in a five-speed manual. If I knew that at the time, I might made the extra effort to afford one. Now just an old man, but with a sharp memory for fine cars of the past. I love the smell of a Mercedes and Blue Coral Car wax!
What a piece of drivable art. Absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. Has an understated art deco vibe.
this is literally the most majestic car ever
The most beautiful mercedes and one of the most beautiful cars ever made in my opinion!
This is a video to watch if you want to calm down after a stress day.
Beautiful car, perfect for a relaxed drive on a sunny spring day I imagine.
My uncle has one and we cruise shirtless on Pebble Beach😅😮🎉😂
Sublime, elegant, classy. Absolutely beautiful car. AND manual. Fantastic video my friend, thank you. I absolutely LOVE your videos.
Everything about this car is sublime perfection.
I liked how once you reached the back roads, you just stoped talking and let us as viewers enjoy the sound of the car, the road and, just admire the view of nature. Thank you so much for doing that Ted, it really relaxed me a lot :)
I had about 45 minutes of pure driving and loved it haha
@@TedwardDrives i can only imagine haha
One of the prettiest cars ever designed.
The build quality of the W113 SL models was such that one advertisement showed a 289SL being raised from a wharf by a crane and onto a ship.......the crane lifted it up by holding both doors open !!!!! Amazing engineering. Thanks for the ride !
Les Griffiths (Australia(
I was in my teens when the 250Sl were current and seeing one on the road was a treat.
Just looking at one gets my pulse going more than a modern Gtr.
Im currently restoring a 1964 W111 220SE thats been sitting for over 25 years in my grandmas garage and seeing this car in such beautiful condition is really motivating me to finish it up so it can look as beautiful as this!!
Gorgeous machine! I've never seen a 5-speed in a 250 SL before. That must be wonderful to drive. I love my new C300T Mercedes. It doesn't have the class of the 250 SL, but it is truly a Mercedes Benz and I love it. Thanks for sharing this video and greetings from Germany.
This is the era of Mercedes SL's I love. Same for their sedans from this time period, including the later 240d models.. This
is truly one of the most beautiful cars ever!! Thanks very much...
Nothing sounds as clean as an in-line six , especially with OHC
One of the most beautiful cars ever build 😍👌🏼
Tedward, you know a LOT about cars, and you do the best videos on the best cars! Thank you.
Quality beyond its time. Nice review Tedster!
Man, a car that gorgeous must be an attention magnet from those who know what it is!
I love that classic car…. Luxury, quality, essence and driving pleasure all in one
It is just one of those marvelous vehicles, that talk, and even sing to you, in a mechanical sense...no need to even listen to a radio....these cars beg the driver to become "one" with them!....Younger folks have missed something special.
what a lovely car. Thanks, Tedward!
This is my dream car in the perfect color, funnily enough it's exactly as fast as my Mazda MX-5 NB 1.6 to the tenth of a second.
I would like to see an additional video of the 250SL without talking, just the buzz of the wonderful six-cylinder... my uncle used to have one of those.
When this body was released, I believe in 1965, I was attending the American High School in Stuttgart, Germany. I don't know who sweet-talked the rep at the factory, but somebody from the Mercedes factory, in Stuttgart, brought a silver 250 SL over to our high school and let all of the staff & kids that were interested pour over this beautiful convertible. No.... they didn't let any of us even ride in it, let alone drive it!! It was a huge step from the earlier 190 SL and all the kids were talking about how they were going to go home to talk to "Dad" about buying one as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it was a bit out of reach for most of the Army Sergeants represented there.
In my slightly biased opinion, this was about the finest example of a Mercedes roadster built since WWII. It was never a screaming high performance rocket ship but it was without question, one of the finest sports roadsters ever, and a very nice cruiser. Again, I'm going to have to seriously consider tapping into my Power Ball Retirement Fund!! 🤣👍
Many years ago, I owned a 1959 Austin-Healey 100-6 Model...although the build quality of that British car left something to be desired, the six cylinder engine had such a throaty, yet sweet sound!...I never bothered to put a stereo into it.
Beautiful. Always adored vintage Mercedes.
I'd be happy to own one of these. And that engine is so alive for what it is
What a gorgeous piece of machinery and a great driving experience.
as a U.S. Army kid in W. Germany, we had a gray 180A ,,Ponton" sedan, a dark green 280S, a shiny black 280 SEL 3.5, a brown 190SL
a silver 1983 300D TD we drove to West Berlin -- got into East Berlin by bus
What a beautiful classic convertible! Love the exterior and interior colors too! Only downside at north of six figures and it’s rarity I’d be a bit nervous to drive it! 😭
good old days
A really cool car review. Slow and easy. Much appreciated.
This car is absolutely AMAZING! 🤩
This one is legendary. You just drove
Always love the Benz content
As a petrolhead and automotive engineering student, if I had to explain why I love cars (the real ones, not electric) I would show this video!
I owned a w108 with the 2.8L engine which was the evolution of the 2.5 for a few years. Basically the same engine/trans/packaging on a bigger chassis. So far ahead of it's time, with front and rear independent suspension, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, fully loaded but the biggest thing about this era (W108-109-111 coupe-113-114) is the fuel injection system. It gives out so much torque that if you're at the right RPMs (around 2.5-3k) it gives you instant throttle response. It's just mind blowing how far advanced these mercs were and still are.
If you ever get the chance to drive a w109 - 300SEL 6.3, just do it. You'll be blown away by the performance in a 4-door luxury sedan. That 300sel 6.3 literally invented the performance sedan segment. Enjoy Mr @Tedward!
Amazing Car, Thank you for test drive , i enjoyed
Gotta love the classics 👌
Absolutely stunning. I'd be absolutely petrified cruising around on a road with any other drivers...this is like driving a Picasso or a Rothko.
Mercedes Benz sure used to make their cars much better than they do today. I had a 1960 220SE and it was built like a dream and it ran like a dream (although the fuel injection was a bit finicky at times). Today, the Mercedes is not built to any greater quality than the average Toyota except that the Toyota is built much better and will last much longer, and not cost a fortune to maintain it.
4-wheel independent, with a articulating rear end.
This makes the vehicle prone to ground looping when it unweights on rainy days in corners.
One of my favorite cars though.
Classic Mercedes are the best cars ever made
Hey, you just got a new subscriber. I love your vids they are so cool, continue to work hard and post the best vids
Wow! Did you say 5-speed? In 1967? Wow!
This car is pure ASMR driving.
That car is a beauty! So smooth
That blue interior is gaudy as hell and I love it. What a beautiful machine! Koolmeister 😈
I just love that engine sound!
Is just beautiful and elegant, has the right amount of chrome. Is art on wheels 🤩
Remember seeing a couple of these as a kid in the LA area. So different than huge American cars then. Such a functional and smart design. Also they had one at the end of the old Speed Racer cartoons ha! Benz’s age well.
Awesome vid man! 🔥
I like the 60s Mercedes-Benz body styles the best. Very clean lines.
We had '62 190D for a while. Solid car, but slow. The doors could just be pulled closed and you heard a nice solid "click" of the latch. One of my friends was always slamming the door, as he was used to a 2-door full size Chevrolet (heavy doors). One day he actually broke the latch, which we realized the first left turn I made after he got in (and slammed the door). The door flew open, so he had to hold it closed until we reached our destination. Luckily the replacement part was readily available, so no big deal.
The other issue with the car was that the plastic knuckles in the steering column mounted shift linkage would sometimes break. I used to carry spares and got so good at changing them out that I could install a new one while waiting at a traffic light. They were also the cheapest factory Mercedes part I ever purchased, at $0.25 each.
I still have the steering wheel center pad from that car.
My uncle managed to get his hands on one of these last year. He’s having it restored currently, I’m very excited to see how it looks. He is doing silver with red interior.(it’s also one of the stick cars aswell)
i dont understand why you videos dont have more views man, amazing quality content!
Appreciated! I guess I’d have to make clickbait titles and dumb faces in thumbnails 😆
Was watching this late last night and I fell asleep… definitely not because I was bored but this car is so relaxing to listen to
sounds beautiful, even better than our 3.9 V8 Disco 1 Land Rover with 5x2 manual trans
have driven a 1964 Corvair Convertible
with AC -- really nice when I visited Alabamastan
What a stunningly beautiful car. Would love to own this.
Back in the day when they made quality cars!
Let`s force them to do that again!
It is nice 👌 It's hard to find 5 speed manual transmissions in the Mercedes. I have the 1981 Mercedes 240d with a 4 speed manual. It makes it easier to get up to speed with the manual since I have a diesel engine. The quality of the car is seen with its age at nearly 42 years and when you look at this car as a 1967 at almost 56 years speaks of the quality.
What an absolute jewel of a car.
I will never get to drive a dream car like this. Thank you for posting
Love;y drive, lovely car! Love the classic car pov
Beautiful!
You can't go wrong with a Mercedes
One word... GORGEOUS :)
That car is jewel like; absolute perfection.
Kudos to the owners for maintaining it in such pristine shape.
Among the top 3 most beautiful Mercedes designs I would say.
I can see you reflect in the chrome.... Classic.
Damn that thing started up faster than my 2020
Made my job so easy. Sometimes it takes some serious effort to make a car start smoothly on camera. This thing was instant and smooth every single time lol
something about driving these just makes you feel classier than everyone else
Just how the car started says it all.
I dont like mercedes but their old cars is just gorgeous. This thing sound smoother than newer cars
looks incredibly solid
I was never a huge Merc fan...but man this thing is SWEET
This car is goals. Hope to own or just drive this car one day.
Watching this video was almost like a meditative experience.
This car brand is amazing
