Honestly these are probably my favourite Porsche's of all time. Rob Emory does these absolutely right. Probably will never get a chance to get my hand on one of these but god damn a boy can dream.
Great video as always and greatly appreciate the vehicles you choose to review. Back in high school in the 80s, I graduated in 87, my chemistry teacher Dr. Park drove a red on black 1963 Porsche 356 coupe that had bought new. I still feel the only reason I passed his class was we both had a love for Porsches and could share our knowledge with each other.
Thanks for taking us with you (and your comments) on a cruise in this beautiful 356 SC from 1964. I had the pleasure of going for a short ride in the same car/ same colour as a teenage passenger, which belonged to the father of a chum of mine. Loved every minute of the ride !
My dream since early childhood... well, I'm only 19, so I still have a chance to have one. Like, nvm, even if I'll have a replica I can drive on public roads, I'll die being a happiest man ever 😁 Thx for the video!!! It was such a pleasure to see and hear, the masterpiece...
Back in the day, I really enjoyed playing Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed, and the 356 was always one of my favorite cars in the game! This video brings back some memories… and I’m surprised at how accurate they were able to get the engine sound in the game.
My late father bought a 1957 Red 356 coupe, about 1962? I was like 11, so I never got to drive it. He traded it for a 1965 Buick le Sabre, which still breaks my heart! Today: Sabre - $10,000 Porsche: $80,000 +! He said, "At the time, it was just another old car." Thanks, Dad. Thanks.
My father-in-law has a 1957 convertible 356. I would say it is almost a daily driver in decent weather. The kid seats are just about ok for our kids, just enough to get to the local coffee shop in the morning when they go to visit. My older daughter just loves it, especially the smell. She has my genes, loves the smell of petrol!!
My first Porsche was a 1965 356SC with a carry rack over the engine bay I was surprised to find it would do 115 and still feel stable. I still had the gas tank in the trunk. this meant stopping for gas I had to remove some things from the trunk to reach the tank cap. I lived in Hyattsville Maryland while do the METRO system in DC. The Porsche dealer helped update from 1600cc to 1800 with piston I got from VW& Porsche magazine, and my car had dull stacked Webber carburetors. I loved that car of course I grew up and learned to drive in VW Bettle. It was 1976 when I had it.
got a chance to ride in a fully restored one a few years back, easily the most raw car experience I've had, the sound was amazing. Fell in love with porsches that day.
That motor sound brings back memories. I could never afford a 356, but I did have a hopped up beetle when I was in my 20s and I still remember that induction growl of the dual carbs when you got on it. And even with only 95hp or so (about what mine had) the cars are so light that they are genuinely quick even by modern standards.
I had a 59 A 1600S way back. Rust due to the heater running through the side panel was always an issue. The swing axles kept me on my toes. 75 hp was just fine. The shift lever felt very VW-ish. The doors clicked shut. No reason to slam them. Mine was lowered an de-cambered 1 1/2degrees at the rear. I had a Bursch exhaust system. Handled well. The 917 was racing in Europe at the time and the IROC Porsches were racing stateside. Fun times.
I was in CA last week and rented my first ever "old" Porsche, a 1989 G body 911. It was a wonderful experience and more than lived up to its reputation. I wish these cars weren't so appreciated in the market though! I will probably never be able to own one.
The sound of that engine! Re shift throw - I had a '59 Ghia I took to college. There was a gizmo you could add to the shift lever that would reduce the lever movement by maybe 50%? It shifted like a sports car. Haven't thought of that in decades!
You were considerate to acknowledge your upsetting shorts as I was thinking the very same thought at that exact thought, thank you Ted, thank you sir...
As someone who ends up on a lot of the same roads as you, it drives me nuts that you can blast down these off and on ramps in 60 year old cars when most of the time I get stuck behind brand new vehicles doing 20 on these things.
I once sat in a speedster on a show and remember me closing the door......... As if you close a volt ! That feel and clunck I never forget . They feel robust and the dash is a jewel on itself These are evergreen never fading sportscars , they are CLASSIC .
I think the 356C is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Yes, the 275GTB and the 250LM are beautiful, but there's just something about the 356C. I got to drive a 911 cabriolet once but I've never been in a 356. Thanks for the video!
Got to know and loved these cars by playing NFS 5 (Porsche Unleashed) and man that game really did recreate this experience really well. Love this video so much!!
Such an elegant car, especially the gauges! (I wish current cars would take more inspiration of these classics). And i can fully relate to the part with the beach. Having been on a beach vacation once in my life at age 18, that confirmed to me that i prefer mountains to hike and mountain roads to drive here in the alps. (Oh and yes, those classic car races look so great! It would be very desireable to do a few laps on a closed circuit with something like that!)
That 356 is, what, 1800 lbs? The engine is 100-115 HP? Perfect for cutting corners and scooting. It's a different philosophy than many and that's cool. Tedward? I wouldn't share either.
also if you reverse the angle of the front quarter windows all the way to the other side, you can funnel some pretty strong air towards the body while in motion. I also vent the rear quarter windows do get some great airflow.
I swapped the dipstick in my beetle for one that will trigger the oil light if the oil temp gets too high. Never had it go off even on 100 degree days. They won't ever overheat if they're set up right
Man that's an OG. I'd never drive it without gloves though, I have really bad experiences with wooden wheels. I'm more a 911 guy but man these originals sure got some charm.
Even though the first 356 used a VW engine, Porsche doubled the power output with his magic. So basically this is a distant cousin of the VW engine by this point in time.
I always liked the coupe more compared to the speedster models, They just looks so clean, It was also one of my favorites back in Need For Speed Porsche
I used to own and work on older beetles (and buses and type 4's) back in the 70's, and now I own a '63 356 restored and now with a Willhoit 2.2L engine. The stock 356 has a distinct sound and purr that really is so much nicer than the Beetle. The Porsche engines were really engineered to a higher degree and have an easy time getting up to higher RPM and you really notice the torque and power. Now with the Willhoit 2.2, the engine dyno'd at about 155HP, and along with some suspension modifications this is hands down the most fun you can possibly have driving an automobile.
I love when you drive these old cars. the 2cv, the DINO. the Bizzarini. all awesome. and this one!
Gotta do a Citroen SM next
BIZZARRINI
I can’t believe what a hallmark or automotive quality Porsche has been since the early days. This just looks so solid for its era. 👌🏻
What a beaut, gotta be one of the best looking cars of its period
Honestly these are probably my favourite Porsche's of all time. Rob Emory does these absolutely right. Probably will never get a chance to get my hand on one of these but god damn a boy can dream.

What at treat to drive this car! wow. Lucky you!

I absolutely love old porsches
My dream since early childhood... well, I'm only 19, so I still have a chance to have one. Like, nvm, even if I'll have a replica I can drive on public roads, I'll die being a happiest man ever 😁

You have the greatest job on the planet, sir.

Pretty strange for a hood release lever to be beside the kinder seats, either way this car is amazing! Keep up the good work
That's one car I would just love to drive but watching a film from the drivers view is the best next thing. 😊
This is probably one of if not my favorite car you’ve tested!
I was driving a 76 911S in 94 degrees today, no AC is rough but totally worth it for these cars
My father-in-law has a 1957 convertible 356. I would say it is almost a daily driver in decent weather. The kid seats are just about ok for our kids, just enough to get to the local coffee shop in the morning when they go to visit. My older daughter just loves it, especially the smell. Sweet. Love the sound of that engine as you shift.
all of the videos with older classic cars are my favorite. they all have so much personality
Had a '60 356B ragtop. This really brings back fond memories. Thanks!
My first Porsche was a 1965 356SC with a carry rack over the engine bay I was surprised to find it would do 115 and still feel stable. Beautiful, Visceral, and Legendary! That interior is also something else. Such elegance and uniqueness...
Probably the best looking Porsche ever made
best old car for driving
got a chance to ride in a fully restored one a few years back, easily the most raw car experience I've had, the sound was amazing. Fell in love with porsches that day.
What a car. Gotta love that engine purr!
I've been able to work on a few of these. They are AMAZING.
Man, that sounds soulful! Love it!
Absolutely beautiful! The things I'd do to drive one of these even a few miles. Thanks for sharing this icon!
The build quality on these older cars. No expense spared
Owning Porsches, this ist the next goal.................
That motor sound brings back memories. And even with only 95hp or so (about what mine had) the cars are so light that they are genuinely quick even by modern standards.
I had a '59 Ghia, and two Beetles. Loved them. The way you could slide through turns with that rear engine! Where are they now?
@@BOBXFILES2374a A Ghia with a clean body costs a fortune now, even if it's missing the drivetrain. Even beetles have gotten nuts.
@@mrvwbug4423 I know it's absolutely ridiculous.
The sound in this video so very satisfying.
I had a 59 A 1600S way back. Rust due to the heater running through the side panel was always an issue. The swing axles kept me on my toes. 75 hp was just fine. The shift lever felt very VW-ish. I wish i could own a 1959 Porsche 356 with a customed built w16 engine with same 1600C.C displacement.
I was in CA last week and rented my first ever "old" Porsche, a 1989 G body 911. It was a wonderful experience and more than lived up to its reputation. I wish these cars weren't so appreciated in the market though! I will probably never be able to own one.
Thank you for sharing the unabashed joy. It was fun.
You have some really beautiful driving roads around you, even if not usually in great shape.
The sound of that engine! Re shift throw - I had a '59 Ghia I took to college. There was a gizmo you could add to the shift lever that would reduce the lever movement by maybe 50%? It shifted like a sports car. Haven't thought of that in decades!
Wow mate, that thing is a BEAUTY!!! Cool, classy, elegant, you name it! What a dream!!
Another awesome video! I've always loved these old-school Porsches. 🙂
That is a quick car, engine warmed over a bit! So nice!
You were considerate to acknowledge your upsetting shorts as I was thinking the very same thought at that exact thought, thank you Ted, thank you sir...
I loved my 65 C in all the years I had it.
Beautiful ride! It's going on my, 'Things I need list'! Great video too!
Beautiful color, so nice
Edit holy crap the interior
As someone who ends up on a lot of the same roads as you, it drives me nuts that you can blast down these off and on ramps in 60 year old cars when most of the time I get stuck behind brand new vehicles doing 20 on these things.
Always loved the 356C, especially the hardtop cabriolets. Should of bought one in the 80’s when they were affordable 😁
I'd love to have one of those. It looks cool and sounds good!
Another happy day with a Classic Car! 😁 Loving those videos!
I once sat in a speedster on a show and remember me closing the door.........
As if you close a volt !
That feel and clunck I never forget .
They feel robust and the dash is a jewel on itself
These are evergreen never fading sportscars , they are CLASSIC .
wonderful specimen, my compliments ;-) including the exterior and interior color of this car.

I love New England. Beautiful old walls and curvy green tree lined roads. Colonial homes. Seasons. Can’t be beat. And I don’t even live there.
One of the most beautiful cars ever produced.
I'm just 21 years old but you have gotten me to like the vintage cars :D
Such an elegant car, especially the gauges! (I wish current cars would take more inspiration of these classics). And i can fully relate to the part with the beach.

Love the Nardi wheel. My old man had one of these 😎
Beautiful car!
The sound! Amazing 🤩
sounds really good
No worries about 1st gear synchro. Porsche synchronizers were and are legendary.
Sub zero level of cool. Love the lines. Thanks for the drive.
No driving this morning. So a cupcake, a juice and this video it is!
loved my b. like the discs on the c.
i love that car but not as much as i love you for sharing it with us!
The engine seems to work very smooth! i did one on my channel to but is a Speedster
also if you reverse the angle of the front quarter windows all the way to the other side, you can funnel some pretty strong air towards the body while in motion. I also vent the rear quarter windows do get some great airflow.
Beauty!
Prime vintage German motoring!
I drive like you ! Great stuff
Beautiful
I swapped the dipstick in my beetle for one that will trigger the oil light if the oil temp gets too high. Never had it go off even on 100 degree days. They won't ever overheat if they're set up right
This remembers me as a kid playing NFS Porsche 2000 :)
It’s the car that Varla drove in the Russ Meyer carsploitation classic Faster Pussycat Kill Kill (1965)
This sound so good i like this sound✌️💪
Very nice!
ted giving dougdemuro vibes today. love it
Nah, Demuro sucks
Man that's an OG. I'd never drive it without gloves though, I have really bad experiences with wooden wheels. I'm more a 911 guy but man these originals sure got some charm.
Definitely a slippery sweaty day with with wood wheel!
Sojiro Sakura called. He wants his car back.
I've seen a lot of these in Monaco
Very cool!
Right on.
Even though the first 356 used a VW engine, Porsche doubled the power output with his magic. So basically this is a distant cousin of the VW engine by this point in time.
V6 Manual Coupe Accord would be cool to see! Chevy Impala SS. The old ford lightning truck!
WHAT A ICONIC PORCHE............TIMELESS GERMAN MOTORING. THIS ONE IS FOR THE SUNNY SUNDAYS.....ONLY FOR COLLECTORS AND GENTELMEN DRIVERS. THANKS TED.
“Sweating like James May in that Aston Martin” perfect reference 😂
there is actually a bit more space under the spare tire FYI if you need to stash something.
Would love to see those beautiful gauge cluster light up... maybe in a tunnel or a indoor garage?
James May in the Race-Aston - thats a funny comparison.
you can find this car but no Triumph gt6 !!!!! Lol nice video as always :)
I always liked the coupe more compared to the speedster models,
They just looks so clean,
It was also one of my favorites back in Need For Speed Porsche
Sweating? Maybe he didn't know he has to open those small swing out quarter windows all the way to "scoop in" outside air.
I saw one of these in yellow in a Porsche rally in France.
How do you do this? where do you find these cars and how are you able to drive them? This is literally the dream, I’m happy for you.
I learned how to drive in one. Same color.
I prefer this boxer sound over the subie rumble. Is the exhaust manifold unequal length on this?
Sounds more or less just like an old Beetle. This video makes me want to drive one of these.
I used to own and work on older beetles (and buses and type 4's) back in the 70's, and now I own a '63 356 restored and now with a Willhoit 2.2L engine.
