I own a 1966 VW Beetle. Needless to say that I'm an air-cooled enthusiast. I'd love to drive a 356 Speedster: a little shorter and lighter, a little stronger and obviously with no roof in comparison to my Beetle, so guaranteed fun!
Although it's just a 1600cc car, the truth is there's no need for a bigger engine because the car has other mechanical and structural limitations such as its brakes, diagonal tires (originally) and handling on winding roads and sharp curves, so basically driving faster than what the 356 does is not very safe.
Despite of that, driving a classic car is priceless. You're immediately transported into another era and think about people like your granpa buying that car brand new and driving it as a modern car at his time. You can even imagine your mother and father as little kids playing in the back seat. You just feel happy about living this kind of experience. It's amazing.
BTW, dual carburetors make all the difference. The Germans did a very good job with this little car and its siblings, literally changing the world.

Yes! That game has never been remade or equalled. For the time the graphics were really good, and I almost enjoyed the slow races vs other 356's as much as the later ones with 911 turbos and beyond. It was truly a love letter to a single carmaker, and iirc it was right before they started making crossovers so the lineage wasn't tainted.

A couple of comments. Not to be too much of an anorak but the knob next to the ignition key is a hand throttle; 356’s don’t have chokes. I’m impressed that it actually worked as they seldom do. Also, your comment about 4th gear being useless leads me to believe that a taller top gear was installed for better highway cruising. Speedsters had the so-called BBAB gear sets which were very short gears compared to the coupes and cabriolets. Fourth gear in the Speedster should be very usable.
Your video was very enjoyable and it brought back lots of great memories as I just sold my ‘58 Speedster after having owned it for twenty years.

Maybe. Specs don’t tell the whole story and i prefer to focus on the experience without muddling it

What kind of specs are you looking for?

@@TedwardDrives like the full engine specs, amount of cylinders, the size of the engine, is it sohc or dohc or no overhead cam at all, the hp and torque, and the drive train aswell, is it rwd fwd or awd, whats the gearbox like the gear amounts and the kind like is it a dct or a cvt or just anything, these might be too much but just the engine size and hp would be awesome
