He probably learned how short of a time he has, learned he only needs a few seconds for it to bolt on good enough before shuttting it down and tightening by hand. The center hub is disengaged until the electrical connection has power on it. It's like an AC electro-magnetic clutch. The clutch has a little bit of drag and thats why it's spinning. Normal operation though, because once it's up to speed by momentum its not wearing the clutch material down. There's very little slippage and it still serves its purpose of not wasting engine horsepower. Its still a dumb move to install it like that. You can easily get it cross threaded. Its like putting lug nuts in an impact gun socket and installing them on the studs without starting them by hand first. This is not a viscous oil clutch fan. 👍

Not sure how they’d tighten it while running, but you’re right that it will come off when they shut it down. I watched a fan come off and destroy a radiator because the tech had forgotten to tighten it before testing the engine. Expensive mistake.

You forgot the fan shroud. Fan is useless with out it. That being said i have done this by disabling the injector driver module and cranking the engine with the starter but installing the shroud at the same time.
If the clutch goes out right when he puts it on, which would doubtfuly happen, all he would have is a sore finger or 2. You see how lightly he's holding it and doesn't have a death gripon it. It definitely wouldn't cut anything off. He's holding it on the edge. Also, you can check the clutch, turning it by hand.😂

Goes thru the radiator as soon as you shut it off is my bet. If you leave them loose, then start the motor, then shut it off they usually unthread.
