Something that made this movie awesome to me compared to later marvel iterations is how it's goofy comic book stuff in a realistic military setting. The juxtaposition of the real world and the sci fi technology is what made this movie so special to me.
that's why I was not a fan of the Eternals movie, cause it just throws out all the knowledge that non-diehard marvels fan have been digesting, by saying hey none of this mattered anyways, if the earth was in trouble they would have stopped because the earth was one big egg, and the eternals could probably clap a lot of what we knew was possible in the movie mcu.

But he was never detected on radar here either. 0:40 "So this thing just appeared out of nowhere? How come it didn’t show up on the radar?" They only found him because they were monitoring the hideout Tony was taken to. The place was suddenly attacked (0:00) and the Air Force starts trying to figure out who it was. In between the "it wasn't (branch of service)" they visually see him on camera (0:08) and just follow him while they scramble jets and figure out who it was that attacked. In ironman 2, Ivan was also able to track Tony when he was chasing him with his drones. but you can argue that it was visual (like the cameras from this scene) from Rhodeys suit, which was also being controlled by Ivan.
People have got so used to Marvels over the top use of CGI you don't seem to realise they used real suits, real camerawork filming real F22s. CGI never beats practical effects. Also they were all shot on film back then which gives a more gritty and realistic feel than modern digital sensors. Big difference between film and digital.
@@willmorrell488 CGI definitely beats practical in certain aspects. There are some things you just cant do practically because its either physically impossible, its dangerous, its expensive, or it takes too much time to set up.
@@willmorrell488 SOMETIMES. If the need calls for it. The great thing about modern day CGI is that you can use both, or you can use practical, or you can use CGI. It doenst matter how you get the result, if it tells your story and is done well then CGI is a great tool. That feeling of fake is when the artists dont have enough time or budget to make it good. Thats not the fault of CGI, but more of the constraints placed on the company doing the CGI.

This is so surreal to watch again after seeing how Iron Man has changed after the latest Marvel movies. The suit in the original film felt like a wearable fighter jet. Fully mechanical and hydraulic design, the flaps for braking and maneuvering, the bullet and missile based weapons, and the icing issues lol. And my God, the sound design back then… The clinking and clanking and hydraulic and motor sounds whenever the suit was moving around really made it sound hefty and sturdy. The new suit designs are super cool, don’t get me wrong, but they definitely leaned more into the fantasy side with all the nano tech and beam energy weapons.
no, it was actually plot wise. Stark made this suit to combat against human warfare, when the saga goes into space war fighting alien tech warfare, Stark change the suit to fight them. he made Warmachine for the Country which is used by Rodhey based on human warfare, hence the weapon and sturdiness is like the original Ironman suit

This simple scene somehow caries more weight than a lot of modern movies. The thing is that we sort of understand the power of an F-22, and seeing Iron Man interact with two of them is relatable and gives a sense for his power level. Nowadays we are told that this or that hero is 'extremely powerful" but we can't really relate to his supposed power, because we can't compare it to something real. What's the difference between Thor, Hulk, Nano suit Ironman or Captain Marvel? They all do some random feats of strength and durability, they all seem all but invincible. Yeah, in direct comparison one will come out stronger than the other, but in the end of the day, their power is unrelatable and thus less impactful. Give me Mark 2 Ironman fighting two Raptors any day, over the Nano suit tanking a hit from a moon.
@@jetrexdesignthat’s because there’s NOTHING common about any of them Thor is a God Hulk is a monster and Marvel is an alien. They aren’t supposed to be relatable to the common man so no that isn’t the issue.

Many people made a similiar comment, but I want to phrase it something like this. Iron Man 1 was sort of "grounded in realism", way before "Bigger than life things", also, military porn, the military felt relevant in the early days adding up to the "grounded in realism" thing. So yeah, early Iron Man really did feel real and special. It felt so satisfying to see Tony build and learn to use the suit for half a film and deal with realistic threats, Gulmira dudes, tanks, fighter planes. Whereas now anything the plot needs, boom easy build. Also if I'm correct this was before Disney took over, so I guess this is like TWD seasons 1 and 2 before Frank Darabont left, they're special in a similiar way.
Darabont was only involved in the first season of TWD (first 6 episodes) before getting fired. It's the reason why the show never lived up to the standards set by the very first episode.

Perfect words. The "realness" in this movie and I believe captain america movies are astounding !! Strangely, I also feel the same for Black Panther and Avengers 1 movies. The others kinda feel like cgi or hard to "relate to"
It was more grounded since supposedly Tony is brand new to being a superhero. The stakes are higher since his amateurism leads him much closer to failure. Iron Man in Endgame, or even Iron Man in Iron Man 3, could have very easily handled this situation and defeated Jeb and Venko. Edit: However, at the same time I think the F-22's in this scene are portrayed as more dangerous as they actually are solely so that they can impress the military censors that determine if the script is good enough to allow the use of the donated military assets for props.
This scene was so good because it went from awesome moment to the immediate unexpected where a consequence actually happened. Tony saved him but was a good lesson that grounded Comic book moments into reality.
One of my favourite things about the original iron man films was the very real organic looking suit.. As the years went by it was then full blown concept art cgi
Yea I was thinking the other day how much better the Black Panther suit looked in Civil War than it did in it's own movie Very comparable to Iron Man 1 suit vs Infinity War
Idk why but it makes me so happy how tony is keeping it a secret then tells his friend then the pilot gets saved and the other jet flying off like “he’s friendly he saved the pilot” it’s hard to explain but it makes me happy when in movies the military thinks someone is hostile until they do something to help making the military realise it’s a friendly

Well duh F-35 is suppose to be different with feature such as VTOL for the B version and usable for Carrier ops with the C version Not as good as F-22 but can take off from Carrier
Well the F-15C (fighter interceptor) can easily beat the F-16D (strike fighter) too, and yet nobody gives the F-16 shit. That's because one of them (in this case the F-22) is basically designed purely as an air supremacy fighter, with only bare minimum ability to attack ground targets. The F-35 is designed to be the ultimate strike fighter, with far better ground attack and ship attack ability than the F-22 could ever dream of, and it's also got formidable capability in air to air engagements, and that's not even getting into the fact that it's a flying sensor platform and networking node, sharing with and allowing allied units to share whatever they see and hear with everyone else, including targeting info.
1v1 the F22 beats the F35. 10v10, 1x F22 and 9x 4th gens vs 2x F35s and 8x 4th gens, the F35 is better. The thing about the F35 is that it's far more cost effective than the F22, and it's ability to network with 4th gen fighters is far superior to the F22. Not only does it wreck 4th gen fighters almost as one sidedly as the F22, but when it's done it can use its stealth to fly behind enemy lines with its AESA radar and send incredible amounts of data back to its allied 4th gen fighters. It sees everything and shares that information with legacy fighters, acting as a force multiplier for allied jets. On top of being better at multirole missions than the F22.

Tony's reckless bullshit caused one of the most advanced stealth aircraft, something so advanced that we wouldn't even entertain the idea of selling any of them to our best allies, to crash in some eurasian hellhole where anybody who hates Murrica can score some primo intel on top of the line US fighters. Even in the first movie, Tony is the epitome of a very book smart person who makes the most awful decisions, mostly because of his own overblown ego and narcissim.
@J L and look at the shitstorm that followed that crash. Look at what happened when that F-117 went down in Bosnia in the 90's and when that stealth helicopter went down in the Bin Laden raid. Other pilots had to be risked and aircraft had to be risked to come in and bomb the wreckage and even then in both cases the Russians and Chinese gained valuable intel on our stealth systems from wreckage pieces they obtained. Now imagine some fucking idiot causing us to lose an F-22 only 3 years after the fucking things became operational, and inside a no fly zone of some random eurasian failed state.....all because one fucking asshole had to flex his ego. Even if you justify him going in there without running it by his buddy Rhodes, he had a chance to at least tell him after the fact when Rhodes called and flat out asked him if he had anything operating in the fucking area. It was only until he felt he might be in a little over his head that he called back to confirm it was him, and by then it was too late.
Iron man still has its limits which so what made this film the best. He cannot outrun a sidewinder, he struggles a bit with jets and he is also trying to not kill the pilots while doing so. Mk3 had almost no anti air capability installed which is what made this suit so satisfying to watch when it’s fighting against the raptors

This 5 mins of Iron Man movie clip is better than whole phase 4.
Nah not spider man
@@omarbaba9892 That's a Sony movie trilogy in the MCU. It barely counts as phase 4.
Exactly. No Way Home barely has anything to do with the MCU. It's a Spider Man movie first and foremost.
I'd still take this over Spiderman

The CGI of this movie will never age. It’s so consistently good, you easily look past the few moments that look imperfect (like one part in the cave with the CG mk1 replacement and parts of the finale)
It will never recover from the most awkward pause in movie history though: “TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE

Iron Man 1 Thor 1,2 and captain America are so much more weighty grittier and more interesting creatively in my opinion.

I mean-- Those ARE F22's lol.. That Aim 9x was enough to almost destroy Iron Man lol, and then the 20mm canon was shredding him as well...
And think about the Nuclear Tactical bomb that almost wiped out NY and Iron Man (Which Iron Man created himself called the Jericho Missile) -- which instead killed all the Chitauri, nearly Iron Man himself!!! Those F22s are definitely still a worthy challenge even for Infinity Wars Iron Man (without infinity stones in possession). I mean-- In this universe, Tony Stark is responsible for the creation of those missiles himself, so they aren't no slouch!
@@MilitaryMatters1 I'm sure infinity war tony would just activate his booster jets on his legs and fly away
@@22.piyushnaik76 umm the f22 is the fastest fighter jet on the planet. Realistically that top speed would be enough to shred Tony’s suit and basically kill him instantly
@@MilitaryMatters1 that wasn't a jericho in avengers it was a "regular" nuclear warhead and the f22 are not a worthy challenge. Stark is having trouble here because he doesn't want to hurt the pilots, nothing stops him from using flappers (maybe damage a plane while coming to a stop) tail the f22 and one shot hand repulsor them if he didn't cared about killing.

How come it didn’t show up on the radar?"
They only found him because they were monitoring the hideout Tony was taken to.

There’s something about 2000-2010s cgi and filmmaking that just works, not as flashy or over the top fantastical as modern day but more realistic
@@erickim1739 Sure, but you need a certain amount of practical effects to immerse the viewer otherwise you feel the whole environment is fake.
I’ve always said the same thing
@@willmorrell488 SOMETIMES. If the need calls for it. The great thing about modern day CGI is that you can use both, or you can use practical, or you can use CGI. There's amazing CGI work done in so many movies, and in so many scenes that dont even get noticed because its that good. It doenst matter how you get the result, if it tells your story and is done well then CGI is a great tool.
That feeling of fake is when the artists dont have enough time or budget to make it good. Thats not the fault of CGI, but more of the constraints placed on the company doing the CGI.

I would want more Raptors vs Ironmen as well

Lol that was my fave part as well
Many people made a similiar comment, but I want to phrase it something like this.
In Wandavision she said "Boys, handle the military." So yeah things have changed. lol
The stronger super hero, the worst police and millitary feel. I don't like it. It's sad that marvel movie rarely shows the hero of the average life.
I'd like to see firefighter doing everything he can to save a child and when he is about to die protecting that kid, the super hero arrives at that moment and save your day. Things like that. It would be showing that everyone can be hero and that the super hero just got a lesson of heroism for someone that doesn't any super power.

I’m no aviation expert, but the F22 is the coolest looking modern era fighter. It’s apparently an absolute beast and can easily beat the F-35.
Well duh F-35 is suppose to be different with feature such as VTOL for the B version and usable for Carrier ops with the C version
Not as good as F-22 but can take off from Carrier
They look very similar but thats about it, completely different roles, performance and advantages, also the f22 is way more expensive
Not to mention the F-35 BVR capabilities far exceed the F22
2000s had the best Marvel films. This scene is better than some of the late 2010s/early 2020s Marvel films.
Honestly… something about this scene just works. Somehow still ranks as one of my favorite scenes in the entirety of the MCU.

I mean to be fair they didn't see what happened, they just heard him yelling over comms that he managed to deploy the parachute.
@@dp8178 ahahah ye how convienent they SEE everything untill that part . Nice plot .
@@iwillnoteatzebugs Where did they see anything.
Had they used nano tech here, no one would have been excited. The mechanical aspect is something that we men loved.
Imagine losing an F22 inside a hostile territory, literally Air Force and US most valuable tecnology asset at the time. I don't know but i believe Tony have started a much bigger conflict. Literally i can imagine thousands of soldiers and vehicles running as fast as possible towards the crash site. The ejecting pilot would problably receive the order to destroy what he can instead of trying to escape.
Congratulations Tony.
Unintentional damage/destruction of government property, unnecessarily endangering a fellow American (the pilot) in hostile airspace. Mr. Stark owes the pilot a ride to the base and not left him in dangerous area. And reimburse the tax payers hard earned money. sheesh rich people gets away with their mistakes. lol : )
the moment that bird went down there was flight of F-35s loaded with ordnance going for the crash site to blow it sky high... there would not have been a piece of scrap more than few milimeters large left ...
@@Asghaad yup, probably even MOABS would be dropped over the crash site.
How the hell is it Stark's fault? The moron who throw him off knowing full well his partner was right behind him caused this.
@@tremedar you entered a no fly zone inside a hostile nation, in the middle of a civil war with a heavily armed exo suit. Even if those Raptors had a malfunction and were lost due to an engine problem, the main reason it happened is because of Tony's intervention in the area.
this part always give me chills and not for a reason you might think
imagine sitting in the control room and listening to this pilot struggling to open his jammed suit knowing he is about to splat in a few seconds
Still the best scene in the best movie in the Marvel universe!!! What a great beginning for the Marvel Universe!!!
Back when the movies were great.
🤓
That pilot who survived the parachute malfunction and saved by Ironman lived to NOT tell the tale. How could he not say to his seniors that he was saved by Ironman. I would have
@J L
Press: So it was a training accident?
Tony Stark: I'm ironman!
@@22steve5150 except in this universe the F22 quickly becomes an outdated piece of shit that would have 0 say on Americas or the world's fate
@@smoothcheeky8910 Oh well gee, everything worked out so I guess it's time to slurp on Tony Stark's butthole some more huh?
Iron man still has its limits which so what made this film the best. He cannot outrun a sidewinder, he struggles a bit with jets and he is also trying to not kill the pilots while doing so. Mk3 had almost no anti air capability installed which is what made this suit so satisfying to watch when it’s fighting against the raptors
It's the best scene. So intense. Goosebumps to see Ironman giving a hard time to F22s.
This was the good old days, when the iron man suit’s technology actually seemed plausible, and there was only one universe, and there weren’t infinity stones, and it was easy to follow
And a fun ride...
3:14 It's me 🤣🤣🤣🤣💥💥💥
😁😁😁😁
Honestly, nothing in the Avengers series ever really came close to the glory of Ironman
The 1st avengers where tony pushes the nuke into the wormhole is pretty good. I would say it's close.
It's hard to chose what impresses me more. First time, seeing the Iron man suit in action. Or seeing rhe F-22, in action in a movie.
M2 sounds over M61 definitely what doesnt make me happy.
Imagine being in Tony's place, flying happily when suddenly two of the best planes with the most advanced weapons ever created just appear behind you
He should have expected it though cuz it was restricted airspace that is constantly being monitored by the USAF.
This is better in every way than the current Marvel movies we’re getting. Writing, acting, believability, character motivations, immersiveness, themes, visuals, sound design - literally everything.
"You sure you don't have any tech in that area I should know about? Okay...good cause I'm staring at one right now and it's about to be blown to kingdom come!"
Always loved that line! Don Cheadle is great as Rhodey, but I would have loved to see how the character would have been in the later films with Terence Howard!
Love how you can see the flaps go down right before supersonic flight is engaged. The people who did CGI on this movie did an amazing job
1:39
Ironman chose to escape!
Black Adam chose to whack!
😂😂😂
Yess indeed.
Still a breathe-taking classic after all these years with much more advanced animations and so, this is irreplaceble.
I watched this in cinema back in 2008. The visual and sound still amazed me.
This flight physics and cg is better than anything we get today
This scene will always be one of the most iconic ones.
Absolutely NOTHING since Endgame has (or probably will) come close to comparable to this scene!
Lol the opening scene in falcon and the winter soldier is pretty comparable
@@therealbnasty3719 Well I wasn’t sure if I would’ve agreed so I went back to watch. Here’s your 👍🏽and a 🍺!
Endgame was disappointing and it's overrated.
@@MrClassicmetal infinity war and other movies were better. endgame just eh
@@therealbnasty3719 I consider _Winter Soldier_ to be the crown achievement of the MCU franchise. It's the best movie they've ever made.
I can't believe they never had another epic high-speed flight sequence from Iron Man since. Sure, there have been some dogfights but nothing's captured the same feeling that this clip does.
4:44 really nice little detail, the F-22 pilot was ordered to engage Iron Man and instead he went back
The CGI in IronMan will hold up perfectly for decades
Check out "The making of IronMan CGI" on yt. They talk about everything from building the suit design to the User interface inside the suit - truly spectacular work!
Love how tony just casually answers a phone mid flight
Omg how Tony saved the pilot will never fail. Gets me every time I watch this scene.
This scene is more than 10 years old still gives goose bumps
Tony will be fine until Maverick shows up with the F14 Tomcat.
*(Queue Free Bird)*
Tony will rip him out of his jet
Great idea for What If
Maverick would just be much better with a lightning 2 or just an a-10
Maverick: Splitting the throttles! Coming Around!
Tony: You serious? Im a f~ng UFO, dude.
When a man in a suit was the biggest danger in the world of MCU back then. We didn't have lasers, flying men built from stones, raccoons that could talk, spaceships, aliens, or anything like that. I like it when the most powerful person was Iron Man
He has lasers in his suites
