Out of all the "restorers" I have come across on RUclips you are 1 of 2 that I watch consistently. Your work never fails to amaze. The skills you have are to be envied.
You are a true conservationist. Not only do you use the original materials as much as possible, you use the authentic techniques, too. I love to watch you work. If only I were younger, I would take you as my mentor.
The fake wood effect really works when you do everything with that technique! I was surprised by how fake and bad it looked when you first started, but then altogether it tricks you into thinking it's real wood! Nicely done!
Your patience is amazing. I would have lost my mind and the will to live after doing and re-doing the painting with cardboard one hundred times. A beautiful job, as always.
I watch about 15 restoration ppl on RUclips. You sir have no equal! No one does what you do. I bought a sheet of cane to so a rocking chair and that was hard enough. Fantastic craftsmanship all the way around 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼🇺🇸
The time and diverse set of finely tuned carpentry and artisanal skills you and your friend invested in restoring this historically important and beautiful chair will be appreciated for another 200 years! It's always a pleasure to watch you save these thoughtfully chosen pieces from the trash heap! Your channel deserves exponential growth in the years to come. Best Regards from Connecticut!
I've Never Quite Understood the Allure of painting a Faux wood grain over Actual wood. That is until I saw You do it. Really Beautiful. It really is Art. It All depends on Artistic Interpretations doesn't It?
My grandpa used to repair chairs like this. His father was a reed weaver by trade, and this certainly had my interest when I was young, but unfortunately I never learned this. Thank you for the memory.
As always, you never fail to amaze me. What an honor and privilege to watch your videos, thank you for sharing them with us. I absolutely love your faux wood effect. I’ve never really liked the modern faux wood tools, it looked fake. As a painter myself, and now dipping my toe into furniture restoration, I should have thought about using cardboard. Brilliant!! Thank you for your talent and inspiration 💖
Each move you made, I was stunned. What a most exquisite restoration work you just did to a 200-year old corner chair. I had wished I have in possession of all your work in my home but firstly, I have to purchase a mansion house. I am always looking forward to seeing each video you aired, from Massachusetts.
I have one client who moved from Estonia to Canada and transported all the furniture with her, after I restored them. If the shipping container is full, then the transport is not so expensive, per piece.
Awesome restoration, Ahti! Really loved watching you do the faux wood finish. I did that to a 200 year old child’s rocking chair years ago and it brought back memories. I tried caning a chair once too, and it was really hard…the end result was awful. Glad you sought help with that, they did a great job. Thanks for the video, the chair is gorgeous!
The work you did was magical! you gave a new life to an abused chair. My wife inherited a very similar chair from her grandmother years ago. To date it is a beautiful piece. excellent work, well done.
This chair turned out BEAUTIFUL your knowledge of different ways they made chairs back then is amazing. I would have stripped it all off and never thought twice about the black. Actually I thought it was another layer of paint like the white. You do such amazing work. Thank you for sharing and you have a great day
I am mesmerized by these videos! I love that you used a special glue for the next restorer who, frankly, may not even be born yet! Thank you for taking the time to bring beauty into the world.
Normally I am not a fan of painting wooden furniture (because natural wood grain is very beautiful on its own), but I guess this chair is an exception! You've made it look like it is made of expensive wood! And you even made a seat from straws, I'm in awe! It's like magic to me.
One of the few money fights I had with my late husband was over the expense of restoring a caned seat. We had a lovely wood chair that his mother had for years but the caning was badly damaged and was going to be expensive to restore properly. He considered other options, like just putting a solid seat on but I just couldn’t see it without the caning. Because he was such a lovely man, he gave in to my wishes and that chair is still my favorite of those that we restored. He loved it too and felt the money was well-spent in the end. It was a time when we had a bit extra and could afford it. I doubt we would or could do the same today and that makes it all the more special.
It takes a strong person to not only ask for help, but to also fess up to it later. This is a beautiful restoration, and your friend did an awesome job on the cane seat.
I hope your videos will inspire some rare individuals, who see your talent and skill set, to carry forward this art form. I think there are probably not too many people who can do what you do.
You know I'm always dubious whenever that faux wood method is used but you somehow always make it looks amazing in the end result. Truly a master of your craft.
While there are some good videos of restorers, carpenters and craftsmen on RUclips, for me none, and I said, none compare to you Ahti. I say this for the entire package: competence, brilliance, the work you do almost like perfect magic. Not to mention the excellent quality of your videos without those unnecessary distractions like landscapes, pets, conversations or boring explanations, tasteless music, etc. Your work is almost magical, your sensitivity when dealing with any piece is enviable. Although there are very few good creators, restorers, artisans or carpenters in this network, none are at your level of excellence. I look forward to your videos and Thank you for your mastery and generosity in letting me participate as a spectator of your incredible creations!
Ahti, I have been looking forward to seeing this restoration since you mentioned it on FB. Having myself done some faux wood graining with a comb with some teeth broken out, I was fascinated with your using the torn cardboard. Your crafting the wood “knot” was mesmerizing! Glad you had a friend who was able to help you with that pesky caneing. Thank you, as always, for the filming and editing.
You, sir, are a master! Every time I watch one of your videos, I have to wonder who taught you so many different techniques and how long it took you to become proficient at them? It is pure joy to watch you work your magic!!!
What a beautiful result. The cane work looked very hard, but when done it is great. I have to admire your patience. Beautiful chair. Thank you for sharing.
Wow!!!I would give two thumbs up if I could. This is true craftsmanship. The fact that you didn’t use cane webbing roll, but designed weaved your own. It’s definitely a beauty. Great job as always. Love your channel!!
I saw a similar rattan chair from Vienna that was dated to the 1780s. Without a really fine investigation of the wood used, my guess is that this is a chair from the early 1800s. The interesting feature is the falling front seat of the chair, which is a highly unusual feature and unseen in later chairs. Excellent restoration in the full form of the word. Thank you!
we finally found out something you can do that well. THIS chair bottom! you are amazing and i love to watch your beautiful work. it's a work of art. congratulations my friend.
At first, I didn't think the cardboard trick would work, but it DOES perfectly and creates a very natural effect a bit like wood grain. You have brilliant skills and patience to re-create the seat's original design, and the whole project is excellent. I hope you sold it for enough to redeem the hours you spent. You are one of the best restorers on 'RUclips'.
Wow! I have not seen one of these chairs in a very long time, they are a very rare find. Your work is, as always, impeccable. Thank you 🙏 for your videos.
Again, I'm in awe of your skills and craftmanship. I love to see all the different techniques you use and so amazed at the end result every time. Wonderful work for a wonderful old chair.
Besides being an amazing furniture restorer, we know Ahti (or someone he knows) loves Philadelphia cream cheese! Great job. I absolutely love the finished chair. Your customer must be thrilled!
You saw the beauty hidden there and brought it to light. my first thought was 'what an ugly old chair! why would you want to restore that?' I was so wrong! Thank you for sharing your Art. It's beautiful💕💕
I learned a very interesting lesson about how cane seats are made, and also how wood paint and stains were made before commercial paints and stains. Thank you 😊 😊❤
Удивительный и необычный стул, даже бы не подумал, что он Шведский) прекрасный предстовитель именно столярной мебели! Вначале подумал что сидушка будет мягкая, но после увиденного, можно смело сказать, что это историческая рестоврация. Отличная работа.
Watching the faux graining was very interesting. In the house where my grandfather was born all the paneling under the front staircase is faux painted. Apparently it was fashionable at one time. Thanks for sharing.

It was an amazing restoration. After watching this video, I realized that I shouldn't complain that handmade furniture is expensive.

Смотреть на то, как Вы реставрируете мебель, просто удовольствие! У Вас золотые руки! Спасибо за видео! ❤
I've never seen anyone actually weave rattan onto a piece of furniture before, that was interesting. You did a great job restoring it.

I agree! I thought oh no! It’s a fail. But then AMAZING! It all worked together and looks lovely.
