  • This table was made around 1950´s and somewhere in the 1990´s it was painted white, to hide all the problems. My goal was to restore it to its original glory. Tables like this are highly appreciated today and they cost around 700-1000€ when restored.

    I'm owner of this table. Originally it belonged to my grand-grandparents. I have grand memories of spending time behind it with my grandfather and sharing grandmother delicious meals with all others. Now it is in my home, with the story behind it. I'm truly happy that I could resist temptation to do it my self. Ahti did a great job and I believe that otherwise it would have stood in my barn for several more years. Anyway, this table has sentimental value to me and is great Christmas present to my own family.
    In times of 1950s the vast majority of people can't afford solid hardwood furniture (after II WW). Actually I believe that it was not even possible to by new one. Because of all that nationalization and focusing only to mass production by Soviet Union.

      If this was your great grandmothers table, then why would you have it restored so completely? I would feel that the damage is part of the charm, filled with memories, and would only have it partially restored to functionality to show its age.

    Boy that table brought back memories. My dad had cut one of those down to make a coffee table in the mid-1950s that's still in use today. I cannot imagine how long that took you to get the old veneer off. Thank you for memories of my childhood. This was beautifully done. 💖

  • @Lucinda_Jackson
    @Lucinda_Jackson Год назад +154

    That came out beautifully! So many people think painting a piece with damaged veneer will improve things. Instead, it makes everything so much worse, making the veneer bubble and lift, crack and break or chip. You took it right back down to its starting place and made it as beautiful as it ever was. Bravo!
    Happy New Year!!🎊

    Love the free nail. And the results are amazing. Great job! Question, is it shorter than modern tables or was it the point of view?

    Hard to believe that it’s the same piece! But, of course it is, because your projects are always amazing. Never miss one of your videos and often watch the old ones. Plus, who else uses a laser in one project, and a humble household iron in the next? Stay well, and a wonderful 2023 to you and yours! 🇨🇦💕

    Beautiful result from what looked like a table heading for recycling. Also, have you ever thought about advertising as a relaxation therapist? "How to go from murderous to chill in 19 minutes."

    You turned a ghastly white painted table into a very elegant table. It is now beautiful! Beautifully restored. :)

    Yet another fabulous restoration. This channel shows us lots of techniques to restore furniture, but what it teaches me most is that it is far far better to have a professional do the job - someone who knows the best way to approach all the big and small issues that come with the task of making something beautiful again.

    GOAL ACHIEVED!! MAGNIGICENT! Breath-takingly beautiful. As a child of the 50's, it makes my heart break to see beautiful, re-usable furniture like this table, being trashed and dumped. We live in a throw-away society and have not yet RE-LEARNED to Waste NOT, want NOT.
