- Why spend $250 on the “Professional” sharpener, when the $60 original tool can be brought to the same level? I did it for less than ten bucks! No special tools, no special skills, anyone can do!

Sorry it took so long to deliver this video! I had to think all of these fixes through, purchase the materials, film, edit… I had fun! Hopefully you’ll enjoy the video and ask many a good question!
No need to apologize. I appreciate this and will probably modify my device like you have shown. Thanks
I would say try the zip ties, then the blade supports and see how you like it. Then for the extra finesse add the grommets! 👍
@@CuttingBoardRx I'm already using a blade support piece I made, and now I'll add zip-ties. That's a quick easy hack. As for my blade clamp piece, it didn't wiggle much, but I took some super glue and went around the circumference of the piece that inserts little by little letting it dry fully each time, and got it to fit pretty tight.
This sharpener is super easy to use and does a surprisingly good job keeping a working edge on every-day-use knives. And, I've made my money back + a little profit using it to sharpen some friends knives.
The zip tie trick works really well. It fixes my biggest gripe with the system.
Great! Help spread the word, specially if you’re on any knife forums. I’m social media challenged…
I appreciate this video, thanks. FYI I just stick a piece of paper on the side of the clamp when I put the clamp in to take care of side to side play.
That’s a good idea! Thanks for sharing
Sloppiness of the Lansky next please! 😊
“Only pick the fights you can win!”
I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks!
Precisely what I was looking for.
Glad I can help!
Thanks!
Thank you, Thank you! You a very generous!
You're doing God's work. 🙏🙌
Worksharp should reach out for consulting services! 😂
Uh-umm. They would rather eat a diamond plate… Not a peep from them so far. TS Prof reached out though… had to say no as they offered an affiliation.
Have you tried a KME system? Just curious 👍🏻 great work
I wish I was your neighbor, great job !
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was looking forward to this video and you did not disappoint Sir, you earned my subscription and my respect 🤘
Wow, thanks for a lavish compliment! Please share the link with all your friends on social media!
@@CuttingBoardRx I would if I had any (socials) I am waiting on the parts needed for the modifications, thanks again for making this video!
Duct tape is like The Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it binds the universe together. No man (or handy woman) should be without it
Yeah… I’m a regular Bubba Fet… or was it Fert? 😆
Love it🤣
@@CuttingBoardRx 😂
I feel the same way about gaffer's tape.. 👊👍
The issue I’ve run into with my pro is the screw that hold the rod onto the crossbar part of the base. I constantly have to tighten it during a sharpening session. Wondering if you ever had that issue? Possibly a fix
Thank you for this video. Do you truly recommend either version of the Worksharp? Have you used any other sharpening systems?
I didn’t use any other systems besides that crappy lansky in red box. I do see comments that come from users of TS Prof and Keen Edge that neither is perfect. The decision should be based on your specific use case: many sharpenings at home? Go with Pro. Fewer sharpenings and portability? Go with Elite.
I have zero interest in this, but I'm leaving a comment for the algorithm. God speed. 👍👍
I started my journey with the Elite, Then I moved to the professional and now I'm learning freehand sharpening. That is the real ZEN after you kill and restore some of your knives. Hope to see you dealing with stones and making hacks to do a better job
An interesting idea!
Terrific video, thank you!! I will dig up my sharpener and apply your suggested fixes. I have been looking on Amazon for that specific copper tubing, after adding those 4mm grommets into my card, but am not 100% sure what to get. It seems those pipes come with a 1" diameter. You mentioned the one you used was oversized. Do you happen to have a link for the specific copper pipe that fits the Worksharp?
The pipes are marked by the inside diameter. So if it says 1” that should be fine. Once you slot it, it will conform to the device. Edit: very important: make sure it’s actual pipe and not a 1” Connecting fitting! That one may be too large as it’s designed to go Over the 1” pipe
Edit 2: 25 mm OD tube may work actually! Try this one amzn.to/3x4YvtX
Y may actually not need to cut 1/8” slot, rather just cut a single line
I think the Worksharp is a great system if you just have a couple of knives, and you want to put a good edge on them from time to time. If you're going to do a lot of sharpening, not so good. Their proprietary plates just don't hold up.
I sharpened many knives on both WSPA and WSPPA. Definitely over 100 combined total. The plates hold up quite well. I think an average user will get more than their money’s worth out of them
As long as you use it correctly and don't put to much pressure onto the blade while you're using it they hold up just fine in my experience
@@MB-jg4tr My 320 lost its bite after a dozen or so sharpenings, and the 600 plate came unglued. It wasn't a pressure issue. Been sharpening for years. Cedric and Ada Channel had the same issue with it. Anyway, I bought a TS Prof a while back. Couldn't be happier with it. Problem solved.
@@0zmose perhaps quality control isn't good, I've done somewhere around 50-60 sharpenings with mine and it still seems to do the same job as when it was new.
👍
Perhaps I missed it…but what size are the grommets? 4mm? Thanks for the great vid…
4 mm. But they vary from brand to brand as I found out. The link in description is for the ones I used in the video.
Have both the worksharp sharpeners, and did the modifications in one of your previous videos to the PRO model with great success. Will have to dig out the older model and tune it up. Question about Medford though: I have a Medford Viper (D2 steel) that I believe has a botched heat treat. The tip bent to shit after sticking the knife in an old soft 2x4.. is it even worth contacting their customer service?
Thanks for the gift! How far back from the tip did it bend?
@@CuttingBoardRx no less than 3/16” close to a quarter inch. It bent like spaghetti, and a couple passes on the worksharp was able to accumulate a burr
That stinks. It should have been able to handle a piece of pine.
@@DanMatheny-sl7xk well, that sucks. D2 isn’t a difficult steel to heat treat as it is air quenched. If it was me, I would make a video about how their customer service handles the issue. Since he’s keeps saying how they stand by you for life. I bet they overheated the hollow grind in process and it annealed to 40 HRC or so. Is the blade in the white or coated?
Just get a kadet or a hapstone r2 and not have to worry about fixing the issues with the system... or better yet free hand!
This is a very good suggestion. Unfortunately not everyone can afford to buy a system and then add another system on top of it.
