    Great video. The system is not a bad starting point for any "Knife Guy". The bulk of my carry knives are in the $150 - $250 range, having a workable sharpening solution is a must.
    1. Picked up a KME as a starting point
    2. Next Work Sharp Ken Onion, with blade grinding attachment
    3. Down the 3 x 8 bench stones rabbit hole
    4. Picked up the TSPROF Blitz 360
    5. Finally got the TSOROF K03
    If I had to limit myself the 2 methods... 1. TSPROF K03 and 2. Bench stones.
    I like to sharpen as much as buying new gear.. Thanks for the video.

    I just got the notification today that my pro system has shipped! I'm excited. I'm not a huge knife guy but my knives have one job and if they can't do that they're a waste of everything. I've worn out 6 or 7 Lansky clamps over the decades, and I got pretty good with those, but having a system several steps above that is going to be great.

    Nice system and a good upgrade from the original, like you said there will be aftermarket stone holders out for these in no time. Nice having the magnetic base for pen knives but a bit of a missed opportunity as they could have added scissor sharpening as well. Im quite happy with the original system, but I've invested in some aftermarket parts and stones to increase the quality of sharpening. Hard to choose between this one and ther other ones on the market when looking at the price tag as there are great systems in this price range. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

  • @fldiverjc4496
    @fldiverjc4496 Год назад

    Another well done video!! I like this system very much, the comps to tsprof is spot on, with thr kme ehh not so much. I had a kme back in day, and this blows it away. First you need mention that the jaws can accommodate 1/4 " spines, this is a big deal, kme can't. Then throw in the magnetized table, you have the best of both worlds in one system. I agree 100% after market stone carrier will make this a true beast and unleash its full potential. But with the current military conflict I'm finding it very difficult to get supplies from either tsprof or hapstone/ gritomatic and the later IMHO made thr best after market stone carrier for the original precision adjust.
    In closing, another well presented video.

    I’m happy with my original work sharp. After saying this I did get the 4” stones and holder plus a aftermarket support brace. I am going to get the 1200 grit. I do have to clean the strop and apply the jewelers compound. Otherwise this does have some mundane features I like but not enough to justify a purchase

  • @Riyame
    @Riyame Год назад +4

    For $300 they REALLY should have gone with the standard 1x6" stone instead of trying to "lock" people into their proprietary stones. Another big flaw IMO is the fact you still need the clamp brace. I bought a $100 sharpener from China (Toohr #3) that doesn't have that problem and has more features. We all know somebody is going to get badly cut trying to remove or replace the brace.
    You can buy the base precision adjust unit, a 6" stone holder and still have over $200 left over for new stones and accessories. I think that is going to be what a lot of sharpeners are going to be thinking because as you mentioned with a stone holder you are into it for $330~ and still need stones, at that price Tsprof starts looking VERY attractive, even more so since they will soon be introducing their newest entry level sharpener.

    • @Cootsie
      @Cootsie Год назад

      I am in the market for a new sharpening system, and I am curious what the new TSPROF entry level system is going to be, or called. Do you know yet? I was almost sold on buying a TSPROF Kadet Pro for $468... and it just seems like a much better built system than this Work Sharp for $300. I know I'll still have to add stones to that, but even if I just rode out the "Optimal Diamonds" until I saved up for some better ones, I think I'd be better off in the long run. I don't do any pro sharpening, just do ktichen knives for myself, pocket knives for friends and family and whatnot. So waiting on the entry level TSPROF if I can find some information, may be suitable as well.

    My wife just bought me one for Christmas and I love it, it's such great improvement over the old one and the old one was good for the money, if i could change anything about I'd like a little wider stones and some finer grits beyond 800, i also think they could have done better with the clamp, I would have liked to see a double clamping system like you see on the TS Prof, they could have had it snap in just the way it does but have it longer with bigger clamps, i feel like they could still use the plastic tightening wheels on each side to tighten it down, since you have more reach with the stones on this unit it would make sharpening larger knives easier and I feel they would clamp in better too, I know that would add to the price of the overall unit but they could always release something like that down the road, either way i still love it, maybe other people think those ideas are stupid. Just my thoughts and opinions

Well, apart from the fact that is hard to sharpen those tiniest knives on a regular PA (which is addressed in the PA Pro), I was surprised how much practice and skill was STILL needed for this guided system. In cut testing the belt grinders did poorly over stones. But it is very easy to use. Especially for budget steels. It couldn't even sharpen my d2 knives though.

      @@tacticalcenter8658 Can't argue the proficiency of stones, but I'm talking about versatility, I need a solution to sharpen all my blades including my big bowies and long swords, as well as my pocket folders. the belt grind attachment has served me well with screaming sharp edges. When you use the full range of belts and pay attention to detail the system works great.

    I may have been just not used to it or I hadn’t got my technique down but it seemed to leave a pretty pronounced heel on my knives . I will say the edges were pretty good . I ended up giving it to a buddy in a trade for some old knives he had . I personally prefer the gatco sharpening system or my trusty dmt aligner for the most part as far as systems go but since I’ve mastered freehand on stones and sandpaper my systems di t see a lot of use anymore . Over all the worksharp is a good system especially at its price although it’s gone up in the last few years one could definitely do worse

    Do your stones sit perfectly flush with the handle? Mine are sitting flush on one end and slightly raised on the other and I'm not sure if it's just the magnet being closer to one side, or the stones I've got are warped.

    oh perfect, after i bought the expansion kit, they release the new system. but, from the last clip, it seems that the new jaws for knife is the weak point? instead of jaws flexing, now the knife it self had very much up and down play, or the spine was not installed as deep as it could?

      So the 6 inch holder from hapstone is the one you got right? If so on the same link my hapstone link which is in all my recent videos will have 6 inch stones look for the start stones, hapstone start can stones, make sure it's the start ones. If not those then use my neevesknives store link to search for Atoma 1x6 stones, now if you want to polish or if you want the stones on top of the ones from work sharp get the Venev centaur stones from hapstone link, 1x6 inch, you could get by with the 240/400 and the 800/1200, that is basically a 600 1200 3500 and 5000 grit becausethey are double sided. Really all you would need if you got the venev is one reprofiling stone like an atoma 140, or a 100 start. But you can get away with the plates you have from ws

    Most Japanese kitchen knives have between an 8 to 12 degree angle how can I use this sharpener to sharpen these knives?

  • @TylerSnyder305
    @TylerSnyder305 Год назад +7

    I'm not sure I like the price, but the fact that it has the magnetic holder for small knives is kind of a necessity for me because I mostly carry small 2 blade pen knives that a lot of people would consider too small.
    One of my all time favorite knives is the Buck 305 lancer which I currently have 6 variants of, and I've had trouble finding an adjustable guided system that works with them.
    They all use a clamp which is too big, and you'll just grind away at the clamp.
    Ideally I'd like to see some kind of very thin low profile clamp, but I still may have to consider this.

    As someone with just a few knives, plus kitchen knives, I would love to see a value comparison between Lansky and both Work Shop systems. I've used the Lansky, as a novice, so not sure with training that would get me super sharp edges or this is worth the investment?

  • @kenroman777

    MAJOR FLAW is clamping system .. Should use the KME holder as an example. Using a wider blade such as found in many home kitchens the blade flexes too much because the clamp does not hold enough of the blade. There is zero way I would take a chance on such kitchen knives as I am alluding to. Knives that work such as Spyderco PM2 this is clearly a KME on steroids., yet the blade holder for many common home kitchen wider knives is a total fail .

    • @goforbroke2
      @goforbroke2 6 месяцев назад +1

      EXACTLY, why isn’t anyone talking about the mediocre clamping system. I experienced the same issues with my kitchen knives that have a 2mm or less spine and weigh over 6 ounces.
      They flex in the holder entirely way too much, hell even on WS video demonstrating sharpening a kitchen knife or a cleaver(I forget) the blade is flexing a lot in the holder and he gingerly applying pressure. I had two of these systems and both clamps exhibit the same behaviour. If it was a cheap system I’d chalk it up but for $300 I expected better.
