Just ordered one… im pretty good with a sharp n spark and my ocd… can’t wait to sharpen everything with this thing. Thx!
On worksharps channel I they showed that using push strokes will produce a slightly sharper edge than a sawing motion. Also adding a little water to the ceramic will produce a slightly better polish. An easy way to find stropping angle is to lay the blade flat on the strop and pull it towards you while slowly raising it up and once it bites that's the stropping angle. I use this method because I can't freehand at all
This is great info, thanks dood! I’ll definitely try that water on the ceramic technique. 🤠
Ahh....the ASMR is strong with this video. I absolutely adore the sound of grinding a blade.
Ive been playing around with trying to get a mirror polish with this system. I was watching Neeves Knives and once he got to the ceramic he went straight side to side, as in left to right instead of up and down in the same motion your creating the bur. Figured I would try it and it made a world of difference for me, extremely polished now. You can try that next time if you want. It looks clean AF. Nice Video!
I've always struggled to sharpen knives. The Precision Adjust is the 1rst system I've had any luck with. Yep I'm a fan! Love the Praxis too!
Bought this knife sharpening system - tried it out today. I am beyond impressed. My Para 3 is hair splitting sharp, my bevel has a nice shine too!!
Awesome man, I’m glad it’s working well for you! 🤠🤘
Yea but there is scratch marks everywhere it's not a truly mirror polish you need stropping films down to microns which are 80,000+ grit, there is no way you getting a mirror finish on this knife without seeing scratch marks with 320, 600, and a fucking ceramic rod.
@@bullridermusic2054 cool man
@@doodysdaggers this system will never make the blade edge mirror never, I can't show you
my knives which are sharpened by a profesional sharper on a Tormek T8 machine.
That's the truth you dudes, don't be silly and believe you make mirror edge on Work Sharp.
I'm still digging the intro, makes me chuckle every time.
Haha thanks man, it makes me laugh too. So dumb
It is so simple and good. I love the mouth sound effects. It's better than most channels I follow.
This video helped me out more than any of the others. Thanks
That’s so good to hear! Glad it was helpful! 🤠
I just ordered the worksharp precision elite. can't wait to try it out. I have a couple knives that really need re profiled.. thanks for the video.. great info
Hell yeah awesome! You’ll love it. Just be careful with the tip and take your time on each grit. Your knives are about to be razor blade sharp 🤠
@@doodysdaggers I have the work sharp with belts. It's great for a quick sharpening of kitchen knives or old beaters... But it really isn't great for pocket knives that you've spent a little too much money on 😀
@@midwest1228 yeah exactly! I got that belt sharpener as well, before I got the precision adjust. I found the same thing, it’s just too hard to get a consistent angle with it.
Very well done video...thanks!
I just ordered one of these Thursday it'll be here on Monday. This may be my salvation cuz I can not sharpen a knife to save my life. I've got about 20 very expensive dull knives. I hope I can do as good as you
Awesome man! Yeah you will get really good at it. Start with an inexpensive knife. I actually did another video on this same subject but without time lapses or cuts in the video, so you can see exactly how long to stay on each step. If you follow the video you’ll have a badass edge 😉
Let me know how it turns out!
@@doodysdaggers I'll do that I subbed to your channel so I'll be able to tell you how things work out. Thank you
Excellently presented and skillfully demystifying---thanks, Dood!
Excellent tutorial, thank you!
Not really needed but I got the lapping film to get a scary sharp edge just for fun. I pulled out a single chest hair and was able to carve a small section out of it.
Ooooo shit! I gotta try that!
Very nice my man
How you take the burr off is how you should be using the diamond stones. Slow and steady removes a lot of material quickly.
Love my KME, especially when my hand don't co-operate, most of my stuff usually for working edge, or was, retired so I can allow myself more of a refined edge than I used to. If it helps use magnification when possible for quick analysis, Try not to be perfect, but save some edge for next time to extend the life of your blade, I learned a lot of this stuff from all you guys n gals, so big thanks to community's help over the years,.
Nice Robert! I’d really like a KME someday. And the magnification is a really great idea! I’m going to get myself a magnifying glass
definately helps Bro, good idea for amagnetic tray for parts, still looking for a lost screw,Lol.@@doodysdaggers
Thank you for this guide
I really appreciate ya brother. This was more useful than the official videos for me. Would you say 10 minutes for each of the 3 grits?
Yeah around 10 minutes should be good. A little less the higher grits you go
Thanks man glad it was helpful!
I always use a sharpie and a digital angle finder that has magnets
That’s a good way to do it, I should get one
Work sharp videos show using fewer strokes like 10 passes on each side and counting to be sure you do the same strokes on each side. Seems like this video is over doing the amount of rubbing by a lot, and not insuring both sides get the same treatment. I'm new to this and trying to learn. Just my observation. Thoughts?
10 passes on one side the flipping definitely wouldn’t work well, unless the knife was already relatively sharp. I can’t see a good burr appearing that quickly.
As far as counting the strokes, I just always go until I can feel the burr. Sometimes one side requires more time than the other.
But maybe I’m just used to it since I’ve been doing it a while. If you want to be certain, you can count strokes.
Try it both ways and see which works better. This is just the way I’ve found get great results and a very sharp blade.
Thanks for watching!
Here a year later! 👊 My Dood!
The real OG!! Love ya man 🤘
How important is the stropping step? I don't have leather or stropping compound😕
Pretty important! Also, if you stop every couple days, you’ll never have to sharpen. The strop maintains your sharp edge
You can get one on Amazon for less than $20 and get one that comes with green compound 🤠
You could also use a leather belt if you have one. Sometimes I use my pants leg (after I clean the blade) as a strop after cutting meat/vegetables etc., and it works great to keep the edge sharp - just a thought. You can also use heavy material such as jeans as a strop in a pinch. Stropping is important if you want to keep a sharp edge longer between cuttings with your knife.
You can clean up that ceramic stone with a pencil eraser to take off all that steel. Use a good eraser not the cheap waxy kind.
Oh wow okay! Never heard that before, that’s great info! Thanks man
@@doodysdaggers yeah a good eraser not the cheap kind will take a lot of it off. Also I've been trying to perfect my sharpening and found that if you use pushing towards the blade instead of sawing motion it works better. Takes more time but you get a razor blade kind sharp from it. Great videos.
there's special Lansky eraser for abrasive stones. Works very vell
if you want one step better polish order the single leather strop that is the same as the stone (push/pull tool) except leather + it comes with a polishing compound and holds the exact same angle (pull only)
So how fast do the stones wear out?
I can reprofile around five or six knives before I notice them wearing out a little. But you can keep using them for a long time. They just don’t sharpen as quick anymore after maybe 10 knives
Thank you ever so much

What is the recommended degree for edc folding knives- bushcraft knives- kitchen knives. I’m new in sharpening. Thanks in advance for your response
It really depends on the blade. 18 - 20 degrees is pretty common though
@@doodysdaggers thank you for your response
How long is 20CV needed to be sharpened? I'm trying to sharpen my We Trogon and I can't see the burr after spending lots of time on it... Using the same system as you in the video.
It takes roughly 10 minutes per side. Is your stones old? With newer stones it will go faster. You can order replacements to stick on there at the WorkSharp website
@@doodysdaggers brand new stones. I’ve been trying and trying and there’s no burr lol.
@@klrktsr weird! Maybe it’s too small to see. Just go ahead and switch to the other side and continue
20cv is a "super steel" it's going to take a lot of work to get a good edge on it. Elmax, Bohler M390, magnacut, 20cv, cru wear, M4 ETC, are all super steels that require a lot of work to sharpen (generally)
Hi I find when using the 320 stone it can take a while to get a burr but once I flip it to the other side the burr comes much quicker is that normal or is it important to do both sides the same number of strokes?
It can vary side to side, it’s not always the same number of strokes on both sides. Especially when you’re sharpening a factory edge for the first time.
The next time you sharpen it, it will be nice and even.
@@doodysdaggers Thankyou for replying very helpful👍
Thanks for the video, about how long do you spend on each of the grits per side?
You’re welcome! I’d say roughly 5-8 minutes per side for each grit
So where do you get the strop and compound from ? Also how do you store it ?
Here is a link to one very similar to the one I got:
amzn.to/3eZCKCP
I just hang it up on a hook on the wall when I’m done.
How long would you say it usually takes you to get a burr on a decently used knife? I just vot mine and I'm trying to gage if I'm doing something wrong or just impatient.
Probably between 10 and 15 minutes
Did I hear you right ? Is your praxis in 14c28n. If so I’m definitely going to get one. I’ve always loved the design but I’m not a fan of D2 ( which is what it originally came in ). I’ve never used a guided sharpening system. I learned free hand ( killed a lot of knives 😂 ) now I keep pretty even bevels and shave sharp edges. I may have to get one of these work sharps though.
I did a booboo! it's actually 9cr13mov. My bad!! But honestly it's held a really good edge for me, Civivi kills it with their heat treats. I'm jealous of your ability to freehand! I'm trying to learn. This worksharp is just so foolproof.
@@doodysdaggers I was planning on getting one of the 9cr but I thought I might of missed a new release between 4 kids and a 50 hour work week I miss a lot
If i want a toothy edge on an M4 blade i should work up to 600 grit but should i still strop after?
Yes you always want to strop after sharpening
@@doodysdaggers Cool, Thank you for the advice! I will not be able to get the strop attachment for a little while (i have a low income), i know i could always get a cheap one separately but i am worried i might mess it up (i have very shaky hands due to a side effect of my medication), until i can get the upgrade kit for example could i just do like one pass on the ceramic stone just to get rid of the burr or at least make it smaller?
I bought one and i cant seem to get the edge i really want. I end up with a paper cutting edge but no where near what im looking for and it seems like i cant get a good burr...any advice?
If you’re not getting a good burr you might not be spending enough time on the edge. Keep going until you’ve got a pronounced burr
@@doodysdaggers I have literally spent 30 minutes on a single side and no bur and did the marker trick to find the angle. Maybe I just suck at this...lol
@@brandonhunt2041 that’s very odd.. maybe there is a burr but you aren’t seeing it? I dunno man.
Take a pencil eraser and use it to remove all that metal on your ceramic stone.
Okay I will try that
👍🏻
Dood I love your name and photo 😂
@@doodysdaggers thanks I never take life too seriously 👍🏻
Just ordered one of these yesterday from Amazon should be here soon.
@@mrhairypalm5006 oh hell yeah, congratulations! You’ll love it. Do you plan on changing out the scales?
Rub on it for a while....there saved ya 30 minutes. You're welcome
OHH no wonder your getting a close to mirror finish your using soft MOV steel, I just don't believe you can get a mirror edge with 2 LOWW grits and a ceramic rod? I have the Wicked Edge with custom lapping films that go down to .1 Microns and I'm barely able to do it on S35VN on my Pro-Tech SBR. It takes 10X the grits your doing, i'm talking down to Microns to have a true mirror polish with no scratches on the bevels at all.
Sounds like you are a super badass dude! That’s awesome
@doodysdaggers do you have little tiny scratches as it shines? Please I'm curious?
are those prison tattoo ?
Nope but most are home done
The diamond stones are not good for sharpening, will be better if they were normal stones on this Wok Sharp system, because the diamond stones are metal and you sharp metal with metal and the second thing is the diamond eats the blade so fast.
