For what it’s worth: I find it helpful to place a hand mirror on the table oriented so that I can see the bottom of the blade. I do this for a more precise idea of where the abrasive is in relation to the blade tip and the knife handle. I use the mirror when I feel that it’s needed to help me to not round off my blade tip and/or not scratch my handle. So I really don’t need the mirror for every knife that I sharpen. This procedure also helps me be more precise when sharpening tanto style blades.

My son just surprised me with one of these delivered to me today, I read the instruction sheet and watched a couple videos and got to work on my Kizer lock blade. It's a bit of a learning curve figuring out the best technique that fits you but once you use it for a bit you start to get a feel for how it works the best. Can't wait to get to work on some kitchen knives we have. We just moved so they're out in the garage in a box somewhere, gotta do my Sherlock Holmes impression and go find them.

Super excited to see this unit become available again - happy for you folks that it has been flying off the shelves, great job! My Work Sharp Combo may still be the fastest and easiest path to a functional edge, which I am proud to say I will always have use for too, but for that more intimate and custom touch I suspect I'll be reaching for the Precision Adjust for years! Keep up the awesome work and have a rad day!

I just bought this sharpener and I’m falling in love with this thing. I have had a lansky, and a sharpmaker and wanted something like a kme or wicked edge system. This has features of the high end systems but is a fraction of the price. You guys did and absolutely awesome job with this system. Thank you so much for making it.

Got one of these for Christmas (by request) and immediately attacked my parents’ kitchen knives. Mom was amazed at the renewed performance in her cutlery. Been using it since then on all my EDC rotation knives, and it’s great. I’ve sharpened an utterly destroyed edge on an S90V knife and reprofiled a Rex45 knife and it just takes a little patience... but super simple. I’m convinced that this system and a decent strop are that all 99% of knife users will ever really need. Thanks for making a great product at a great value!

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

Good stuff here. I'll be using some of these tips. In particular I had wondered about using water or oil & they covered that nicely, thank you. I got my Precision Adjust Sharpener about 3 weeks ago & while I haven't used it a lot, I have done a few knives with it. A few paring knives, a couple of larger kitchen knives, it put a good edge on them pretty quickly. I think that the Precision Adjust Sharpener is going to be my go-to tool for most of my knives, with my Work Sharp Guided Sharpening System for the rest.
I have one fillet knife that's been horrible to sharpen (with any tool). It has a really thin blade, both in spine thickness & measured from spine to edge. So the last 1/3 to the tip gets whippy, it flexes a lot & is the hardest part to get an edge on. I think with this tool the answer is to do the 1st 2/3 of the blade, then re-clamp it farther out to it won't flex so much.
Problem with that is that the last 1/3 of the blades is really narrow from spine to edge, not much room to clamp onto & have the stone clear the clamp. Not the fault of the tool, just the reality of that blade. I'll have to try it & see how it works.

My best recipe so far has been (for a complete sharpening/ profile)
320 Grit - back and forth several times on both sides
600 Grit- I lightly nock the burr off from the 320
Back and forth a few times on both sides
Then I start only sharpening on the downward stroke in one direction a few times on both sides
Ceramic - Apply a little water on the ceramic and I go downward stroke only several times on both sides
Then I finish with a strop with white compound and then green compound strop and its pretty dang close to a mirror edge
I found that the up and down sharpening stroke side to side puts V marks on your edge and that makes the edge look a bit messy but if you want a nice looking edge to do half the up and down stroke and then finish with just the down stroke and it seems to clean it up a bit.
Add another 3 sided piece with a 1200 grit plate, and two leather strop strips that you can add compound too and this would be my dream kit.
