  • When the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office hired judge Erin Otis to be a capital case prosecutor, she had been under investigation by the state’s judicial commission for months. Did MCAO know? Did Otis tell them?

The stench of judicial misconduct and corruption in this court system is horrifying! How can this be left to continue?
This journalist’s investigation is worthy of many accolades and awards! Please stay safe.

To be clear, I have been a jurist on a capital case in AZ. Not all judges and courts behave this way. But this makes all the more important to excise this unprofessional misconduct before it causes any more harm. Of course AZ electors select Sheriff Joe Arpaio repeatedly because of his behavior. We get the representation we deserve. Voters need to pay extension to what they select on the ballot-even judicial appointments.

This kind of work culture does not exist in a vacuum. The behavior is exposed in this report shows a clear bias between the judge and prosecutor. How many of these cases will have to be reviewed and at what cost to justice and the tax payers. Keep up the good work.

@Ghost Tape No. 9 I think it is interesting that they say $58k isn’t a lot of $ to them, so it’s ok. Well, if it’s so little $ then maybe they should pay for it themselves instead of wasting my $ that I worked hard for and is so worthless to them.

I would get a lawyer and I would sue that judge because you can’t trust her rulings. She is in capable of being impartial and everything she’s ruled on should be discarded! She’s untrustworthy and she does not have any honor!

There needs to be some type of national database for attorneys where they're being closely scrutinized. If they're under investigation by a State Bar, it should alert employers when they check their law license credentials. This would give a heads up to employers of someone attempting to skirt accountability by trying to resign one job where they're being investigated and hurry up and replace it with another one. This judge knows exactly what she's doing and trying to cover herself. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what she's doing.

I've been in a number of courtroom hearings pertaining to a relative. I can't say I've ever seen the judge or any of the employees giggling and laughing among each other while in there. They were all business. I believe I would be mortified if I were to witness something like this judge, clerks and attorneys doing something like that, while waiting to learn the fate of my loved one.

Every defense lawyer that has a client come in with her as the prosecutor should request of the judge to change the prosecutor on the basis of getting a fair trial and she's not one to give that and if not, keep bringing it back and use these investigations as proof.

The bar should be notified of the actions of the lawyers from d.a. office and the judge's actions and maybe the bar association can do something about all this. Clearly keeping it local is a joke and nothing will happen to any of them.

The Bar are the biggest crooks of them all...they have the bar to give warning when someone is being exposed... its a joke ...The county attorney is married to an appellate judge who writes new rules (example : new probate rules - making it easy to steal all from families of loved ones who have died)

She STILL has a job now prosecuting. For sure all biases and lack of judgment WILL come into play with whatever cases she is involved in.
Such a miscarriage of justice to any defendants that will have to be involved in ANY of her or this offices prosecutions.

Doesnt anyone know what these judges (especially justice ofthe peace) and the Probate Judge and Court...They take peoples real property. They change the rules when they are being exposed..the justices of the Peace are either former county assessors, legislators, etc. The AZ Corp Comm, SOS, County Recorder and Public Fidicuiaries and court appointed investigators are ordered to the homes of those who object to any wrong doings in the taking of real property of those who have left trusts and family as beneficiaries. They spend or sell everything and charge to steal it. They destroy lives and are making a fortune doing it.
