    Your my new go to guy for fixing my washer.
    I just watched the one with the sensing light stuck on. And the codes to indicate what's up. And that wasnt exactly the problem. I should have come here first. Because it wasn't spinning out and I thought it was a sensing issue. Replaces the actuator previously and it kind if went back to normal. But still was kind if confused.
    So I went through the process with the dial. And it came alive and went into the process. It's washing now with nothing in it. But man it went right to work with out pausing stuttering or humming.
    But after watching this I new I was on the wrong path with the last video. Butbman you just gave me 9 more fixes if ever I need it again.
    I hear it draining now.
    I'm gonna let it finish and put a load in.
    Thank you man. And the comments are helpful to. Great channel! All the best!
    Gordo

      Well here I am with this washer doing exactly what it wants again. It worked fine with an empty drum. Would not work after I loaded it.
      Sensing light would be on, lid locks on and off without ant order. Drum engages and wirs and spins a bit and coasts to a stop. Then again......sensing light and lid light are solid. And now....crickets........ long wait and now water... and trying to spin prematurely. It's still filling with water. A humming coming from inside. Would I be correct in chasing down the sensor? Is there more then one? Maybe the controle board?
      You covered everything I could think of.
      Still the water is filling up properly. But the drum is getting engaged to soon right. This is not my expertise. And I respect you knowledge and appreciate how you have put so many answers out there already. I'm just guessing and ... well I thought I scrolled through ALL YOUR Videos looking . Maybe I missed one. I will go back and do more research. Thus is kinda interesting though. Like a treasure hunt or sumpthin.
      You are doing a good thing helping folks be more self sufficient.
      Thank you

      Really seems like an issue with your actuator. Sometimes the actuator arm physically breaks other times the rpm sensor on the actuator is broken. I would replace the actuator and make sure the clutch is moving up and down ok. Best of luck in your repair

    I've been stuck working on an old Inis whirlpool washer. No spin and a burned up lid switch. I bypassed the switch, and changed the coupler (it wasn't broken) but it was cheap enough. Also, the timer stops midway through a load so took it apart and cleaned the contact points that were pretty burned up. Replaced everything and the problem persists. So I took timer apart again and noticed a little double legged spring inside that was loose and out of place. Spent hours trying to get that and the timer cam thing lined up until my head hurt and gave up .Now after watching this video, I think it needs a clutch too . I'm looking for a used replacement now but liked and subbed your channel as it has great how to info.

    I absolutely love your videos. I have a GE washer that would not spin completely leaving wet clothes. Although it did spin. After watching your video, I checked the lid lock and replaced it as it was bad. The capacitor checked out fine and the drive belt was good. Put it back together and tried washer. It filled with water, ran through the wash cycle and then stopped without draining or spinning. All lights on front panel went out. The Circuit Board in the back had a blinking green light with the identifying number of 1702. Help! (I'm gramma raising 2 granddaughters and need this machine working again)

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 года назад +1

      Is the lid of the washer locked when it won't drain or spin? Try stopping the cycle, turning it to drain and spin and see if it works. Also try pulling the washer plug and leaving it off for 10 min then plugging it back in. I hope its not a bad board or a bad shifter (which makes the machine go from wash to spin)

    Good video, thanks for that.. I just fixed mine which would not spin or wash. There was 2 problems, 1# the capacitor value had dropped to 9mF when should have been 12mF. 2# the motor controller has stopped working. Which is often due to the capacitor failure or vis-versa and it is recommended to change both at the same time. Maybe you you could had as the 10th reason which is very common in top loader machine in AUS.

    Thank you so much for your video. Sometimes my washer wouldn't spin. It sounded like it was but wasn't. It would agitate but not spin. I found that by kind of wiggling (moving a little) the inside wash barrel I could get it to spin. I would turn it back on and barely lift the lid just enough to peek inside without it stopping to see it spin. I have no idea what I did by moving the inside barrel that got it to work but doing that isn't working anymore. Can you narrow down what it might be with this information? It's in a closet in my small kitchen. I'm so nervous about trying to fix it myself but I want to try. Thank you so much for any info you can offer.

      Does it sound like grinding gears? Could be your transmission is bad. I've seen the brakes locked up on the spin tube, but that wouldn't make a grinding noise. Typically, metal on metal noise is a bad drive block

    I can add a tenth one. I've tinkered with my slow-spinning Kenmore 300 for nearly two weeks now; replaced the clutch, confirmed the adequate condition & proper operation of all other obvious moving parts, taken the whole shebang to bits and reassembled it three times so far, all the time knowing that the solution was going to be something obvious, staring me in the face and murmuring amusedly, "You truly are an idiot aren't you."
    Yup.
    We've never been successfully able to resist overloading the washer ("Well, maybe this blanket too...oh and there are just a couple of towels, they won't make much difference probably..."), and consequently, it would frequently spin off balance, sometimes to the point where it was trying to walk around the laundry room by itself before somebody -- well all right, ME -- would hustle downstairs and redistribute the contents. Over time, the stress imparted by heavy saturated unbalanced loads, coupled with the inevitable age-related rusting of the underside of the basket, resulted in the basket breaking in a perfect circle around the base where it swoops up in the center to attach to the shaft from the motor. The slow spinning wouldn't even have been happening at all, except the agitator was propelling the innermost globs of wet laundry around and dragging the outer portion of the basket around with it.
    I would have noticed it sooner if it had ever occurred to me that such a thing could even happen. The break was so clean and mechanically circular that I just sort of subliminally assumed it was supposed to be like that.

    I took my water pump off,, and spun it with a screwdriver, and it is just a slightly stiff movement. Is that normal or should it spins free as possible? I'm thinking it is the relay switch might be fouled. That there is nothing wrong with the pump itself. Everything works on the washing machine, except the spin cycle. The motor spins easy in both directions by hand.

      The only filter it has is at the inlet valves. If you noticed your machine is filling slowly, then clean it

    This is great as to all the other washer repair films do not give the actual Test for most components. Right now the Continuity Test on my washer lid switch shows bad, but when I bridge that wire harness; it does not spin; yet the switch clicks like a good one when striker comes down. Any suggestions is appreciated. I will keep you informed.

    • @DuctTapeMechanic

      Are you bypassing the correct two wires? One of them should be just a ground wire. It should spin with the lid switch bypassed.

    • @Spartan1293-w3u
      @Spartan1293-w3u Год назад

      Yes, it is a Kenmore 80 Series. I crossed the Tri-Wire Harness by sticking a 12G Wire down 1st and 3rd channels, had to touch. Retaped it 2 Times. Tried 2 times, Rinsed, but did not Spin. Before tested with Multi-Meter down the 1st and 3rd channels but on the other wire harness coming from the Door/Lid/Sensor Switch itself. It tested discontinuous,but as far as the sound it makes when the lid shuts, you hear the click loud and clear. So likely onto Drain Pump & Hosing. Any thots still? Try a thinner wire than 12 G. The multi-meter works fine on other things like car wire. Likely going have take of Housing/Shell which I did not want to do as I must clear everything out of my bathroom.@@DuctTapeMechanic

    • @Spartan1293-w3u
      @Spartan1293-w3u Год назад

      Yep! The wire I was using was too thick, somehow it did not make it all the way down the the wire harness channel. So I switched from 10 G to 12 G. Not only that but I taped across then down into the wire harness. Now the Spin cycle works, just need to buy the lid switch to eventually replace it.@@DuctTapeMechanic

    @ducttapemechanic I've been struggling with my kenmore 80 series washer for a while. The machine will fill, agitate, drain, but not spin. It makes no weird humming or clunking sounds. The motor sounds like it's running fine when the spin cycle is on. I've ruled out drain pump, transmission, clutch and lid switch. If I override the lid switch and give the inside of the drum a good spin while the spin cycle is on, it'll pick up speed for a few seconds, then slow down and stop. Could this be a motor issue? The motor seems fine, but maybe it's not fast enough to engage the spin? I hate to replace the motor for $400 if it's not the problem. Really appreciate any advice.

      @angieisgreat sounds like an issue with the motor capacitor. I would replace that. If that doesn't resolve it then most likely your transmission has an issue. My opinion

It spins like a snail on low settings and not at all on normal or high. My clothes are heavy. Idk where my lid switch is bc it doesn't have anything on the underside of the lid.

      If it spins at low then your lid switch is ok. I would replace the clutch (unless you hear a humming sound as well then it is most likely the motor capacitor)

    It looks like I need a new clutch in my old whirlpool washer. The agitator spins but the tub doesn’t move, when it’s on the spin cycle. Mine doesn’t have a lid lock, but it won’t agitate or spin when the lid is open. That’s why I can open it quickly when it’s on spin and see that the agitator is spinning but not the tub.

    got a washer that randomly stops after rinse finishes and attempts to go into spin for a few minutes, lidlock light stays on all the lights die out and the machine makes a humming sound and is basically inoperable until i pull the power. usually on a 10min wait i plug it in, cancel out the auto start and the machine will drain. at that point i manually set it to spin and it does so. other times, small loads, the machine works fine and its really weird. either way my brother and i will be putting this video to use tomorrow and i will report back if it works out. i have a feeling the pump has something in it, or the part that does the agitation may have something stuck inside.

      @@DuctTapeMechanic I looked at it again. Found that my drive block is worn. It no longer sits on top of the shaft in the two grooves. It just spins freely kn the drive shaft, so there's nothing for it to catch onto. Pretty sure it's been bad for awhile and was working based on rust and grime. I think when I recently fixed a spring, the lack of wobble made it spin strong enough to finally break completely.

    Often too much detergent being used if it's spinning slowly in the first spin. You can often tell by the sound of the spin cycle. I had a 1992 Maytag and during the first spin when that 45 second spray rinse would cut in you can hear frothing and foaming occuring when too much detergent is used. After the initial rinse cycle it goes through the cycle normally. I set for a second deep rinse with fabric softener.

    So how do you get to the timer? I'm thinking that might be my issue. Everything's working except when it gets to spin, nothing. I've tried the spin on all the different cycles and it will not do ANYTHING when I set it to spin (so of course not draining either) but it will fill, it will agitate.
