MY Kenmore 90 series HD, stopped spinning, you could hear the motor working. Luckily I had a small wash, the water was drained, Wrung out the clothes, hung them up and found your video. I ordered the part on amazon for next day delivery, 3 couplers for 19$ CAD tax in. Then I followed your instructions. Never knew the casing could come off so easy. Removed the pump, i lifted the washer about 6 inches. Didn't need to undo the hoses, just turned the water off. Removed the motor (2 screws) pulled it out and the coupler was broken in two. Took me about 30 minutes. Thank you, this was so easy!! And I am a woman.. had this washer for 23 years and this is the first time I have ever repaired it. Tomorrow when the coupler comes in, I'll install it and come back to finish this comment. :) Got the coupler, installed it, my washer now spins perfectly!!! Thank you so much, saved me $$$$$$$$!!!!!
I just want to extend my sincere gratitude all the way from Atlanta Georgia i'm a husband and father of 3 and this video just saved me about $600 Thank You Sir
Thanks! 70 series Kenmore is alive again. Very easy project didn’t even bother to lay it down. Just shell off and get down and dirty. My coupler only had 1 tooth left and years of burned up plastic bits 😂
After watching your video, I knew this was the problem with my Kenmore 90 series washer. I drove to a local parts store and bought the motor coupler; same one in your video. I’ve tackled other appliance repairs but never one on a washer. It was unclear to me which way to turn the washer over according to your video so I didn’t turn it at all. I googled this and it was recommended not to turn it on it’s back; only the front or side but I didn’t see how this would help so I left it. I think this made the repair extra hard. Getting the new coupler on and flush was harder than I anticipated but I finally did it. Anyway, a few hours later and it’s done. I cleaned up the innards of the housing while I was there. While this was harder than I anticipated, I’m glad I saved the repair charges as I know they would have been outrageous. Thanks for the video instructions.
I have the same washer, and as soon as I heard the noise, I was positive that was the problem. Got the parts, and I'll be attempting this, too. Thank you for the clear video!
Thought for sure the motor was shot on my washer, but it turned out to be just a little $8 part. I've fixed a bunch of dryers before, but never washers, 'cause I assumed they were far more complex. Turns out, they're just as simple, but I wouldn't have known that without seeing this video first. Good angles, well lit, and you even explained the sizes of tools needed. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this!
THANK YOU for the great thorough video!! I did this once before, but it's been a few years ... and I'm pretty sure it's worn out again! Your video was very helpful!
I actually overpassed the lid switch and clipped the switch wire and put electrical tape on the wire and it worked fine. Probably not a good idea to do that instead of buying an new switch but it helped
Super thankful for this video as I'm using ur step-by-step tutorial to change out my coupler. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for being super thorough with each aspect of the process. You are appreciated.
Hey, this may be the best instructional video I have seen. Just did exactly what this video states and it could not have been easier! And, It works! Thanks!
I got one Hotpoint htwp1400f2ww it gets to last spin and wont stop spinning with me moving timer to off. Only stops by opening lid or unplugging. Tried resetting motor same result. I also get a lound arc when plugging it in and squealing when spinning . Appreciate your post.
great video…would this solution apply to a washer with a weak spin cycle? it will spin on light loads but not heavy ones. i believe it’s a direct drive washer just like this one so that would rule out a belt issue.
I could use your help. I have a Kenmore Model 110.24922200 90 Series washer. After completing one load of wash I started a second. The tub filled with water, agitated then stopped. No matter what setting I put it in nothing happens other then the water will fill. No humming, nothing. I did check the lid switch, it is good, I even jumped it to make sure. I also replaced the timer. I tried tracing the wires but got lost. Thank you in advance for any help. ..👍# 570 Stay well, Joe Z
Sounds cut and dry as far as working on a machine my problem is that my 70 series agitates no issues switch seems fine but doesn’t always spin it has no rhyme or reason. I haven’t taken it apart yet figured I would see if you have any ideas thank you for your time
Hello, I followed your instructions and my washing machine spin well, but I smell a strong burning rubber odor and smoke came out. Do you know what it could be? thanks :)
So mine still agitates but when it gets to the spin cycle it won’t spin I’ve tried in different settings / cycles but each time it just stops at the spin any ideas or tips for that also do you recommend a good place for parts
Great video, I had the same exact problem, since I replaced the coupling now the washing machine stops a little more violently than it should. Any ideas?
@@TightWadDIY maybe so, it seems to run and sound perfectly fine. But when it stops even with nothing in it then it shakes and and slams into the side of the case harder than I think it should. I’ve got a load of towels in it at the moment, I’ll watch and see what it does now.
Kenmore whirlpool 110 series. It looks like that on the insides. Sometimes, Maybe 1 out 15 times... When it gets to spin cycle and only drains the water but doesn't spin. At that point I just rotate drum a little and go back to spin cycle and it works. I've already replaced the control unit dial, the motor with coupler and capacitor. These are all genuine oem replacement parts. The washer is about 20 years old. Any ideas what else would cause this?
Mine doesn't have a hole showing the lid switch. It works fine until spin cycle except drum always leans forward. When time to spin, I have to turn the machine off and then back on and then it will spin. It's a roper and I can lift the lid during the spin cycle, and noticed because the drum is forward water misses the drum sometimes but the spinning makes it fall into drum. Can the 2 be connected? Can't find a video to help me. Any thoughts? Ty for great videos!
Can you please tell me your model #.I bought mine feb 2020 used not thinking to look for a model # for ordering parts in the future. Well the future is here and i need coupler. My washer looks exactly like yours . Thank you
I've got this exact washer, and it's not spinning, but it's neither of these problems. I seem to have a belt on the bottom that is loose, but it's not connected to anything....
Have an 80 series and I installed a new coupler ,new clutch, new doggits . Wash and drains perfect except when time to wrung the clothes it wouldn't. I took some of the wetter clothes out and it started. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Have you removed the cabinet to make sure the belt is intact if it has one. If it has a coupler I wouldn’t t think it’s bad if it agitates but I guess it could be.does it hum?
Hello , I have a speed queen top loader Nod. AWN43R+ that won't spin .can you tell me where to start looking other than checking the lid switch . I don't know transmission coupler are the same . Thanks
I got all the way to testing the washer by using the piece of wire to bypass the lid switch. When I try plugging in the washer to outlet, it sparks and trips the breaker. Any ideas?
@@jexanderarvelo3277 I applied some break lubricant on break clutch area and instead of heavy load, we are loading medium weight. So problem for like 7 months now.
Try to unplug the washer for a full minute. Plug it back in then open and close the lid six times. If that doesn’t work, check to see if your belt is still in place.
What if it doesn't spin and the lid switch is bypassed and still doesn't work it does agitate which tells me the motor coupling is working but it won't spin there is a humming noise and a smell

Did you check the pump?
Thank you for replying. Yes nothing stuck in it.@@TightWadDIY
Great job of describing the steps to repair!
SnapperKC Thanks! I try my best to be detailed but not too long winded.
This was great. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, this was not the issue for me. Do you think it’s the motor or some other part???
It could be the agitator on the bottom.
Very nicely done

What about the belt in the back behind the couplings?

Yours could be a belt drive and it’s going bad.
Is there a way to test the lid switch before taking the washer apart?
Not really. Usually you can visually see the switch is broken.

That's the problem I'm having...
It could be a broken belt, unbalanced load, or faulty spin switch. I’d start by checking the belt.
