- This video is for washers that have the lid switch on the left back side. Often the bar will get bent and it will not press the lid switch. This is a quick video on how to adjust that bar.
This trick works on direct drive washer. Is that have a lid switch in the back. Whether it’s Whirlpool, Maytag, Estate, Kenmore Crosley.

Thank you so much for this video. My washer would randomly have issues off and on with not wanting to start. And we would slam the lid down to get it to start the initial cycle. Yesterday, it decided to fill up and would not drain or spin. I had a feeling that it was probably the lid switch, seeing as that seemed to always be what would catch. However, it was still giving power, so I couldn't quite figure out what I needed to replace. But, as you mentioned, most of the time it's just an adjustment needed. And in this case, it was literally just that the screws on the lid needed to be tightened and it fixed everything. It runs perfectly now. I saved myself the money from having to order parts or having to tell my landlord that I had an issue and risk my rent being hiked up. So greatly appreciated!
Glad to help
My washer was completely dead. I followed the steps in this video and adjusted the U-shaped bar that triggers the closed lid switch. This fixed my washer! It took about 30 minutes as I watched the video while doing it. Thank you for posting this video sir! I am very thankful I didn't have to buy a new one or call a repair man😁
That’s awesome.
I just want to say a heartfelt thank you for making this video. I’ve been beyond frustrated chasing down my washer issues and I’ve JUST managed to get this damn thing going after tweaking the arm that actuates the lid switch like you show.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Our machine completely stopped working because of the lid. I watched the video and you said the two screws on the side may have come loose. They were, I tightened them dropped the lid and immediately the machine started! We have been slamming the lid for a couple of years now, thank God I watched your video- I got the answer! :)🎉
Glad you got it going. Sometimes it’s an easy fix.
Hi I just wanted to thank you for your video. You explained it slowly and nicely how to take the estate washer apart. My washer stopped in mid cycle, and like you said, it had to actually do with the lid switch. Upon close inspection of that area the green wire and connection were fried. I was able to get the 2 parts and fix it myself, but without your video I would have been lost. So thank you. Like other others have commented, by seeing your video we were all able to do it without calling a repairman. Money saved is always nice. Thanks again.
Just used this vid to fix my washer. Mother-in-law was here and now I look like Mr. Fix It. 10/10 thank you sir!
Glad to help
Excellent DIY self help video. Followed the steps and I was back up running and spinning in 30min. Never repaired a washer in my life. Thank you so much for posting!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼A+++
Excellent and clear steps. Best instruction video I have seen.
Thanks
You saved the day for us today! 🙌🏼 following your video, my husband & I were able to get our washer working again and didn’t have to call anyone. Thank you so much!
Replaced the switch today and it still wouldn’t work. Came across this video and was able to adjust the latch with my hand. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t hearing that click with the lid. I didn’t realize there was even a latch that needed to set in the switch. The previous video I watched didn’t mention this. It’s going through a cycle now and you may have saved the day!
Great video - very easy to follow, step by step instructions showing the little details of taking this apart and putting it back together, such as the details about the bottom lip going under and the sides go over the frame. Good lighting, good angles to show what you're trying to show. Well done!
Thank you for the great advice. It was actually the wiring plug. I wiggled it and it took off. A bad connection. I was pricing new washers as mine is 18 years old, but is the best washer I have ever owned and I am glad to still have it. Will buy you a drink if I run into you. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! My daughter and I were able to get our washer working again! YOU’RE the BEST!!
Glad to help.
Thank you for this my washer just starting doing this I want to say that I'm a single mom and o had to fix my dryer so these really do help thank you so much
I am 55 years old and did this by myself. Thanks so much
Great video , wish all appliance fixes were this easy , Replaced the switch in 5 minutes .
Glad you got it fixed.
Thanks boss you just saved me a lot of money I would have spent over a bent door switch rod.
Best repair video I've EVER watched! Great presentation!
Thanks
You have the exact (brand/model) washer that I have. It ran like a dream since about 2007, but recently went bad. It will fill up with water and then dead silence, nothing moved. I was about to spend about $700 for a stupid new washer that lacks the same effectiveness the old reliable ones had. But then discovered your video and with glee I pulled the old switch out (that did look bad) and today, ordered a $10 replacement online. I figure if it's not the cure, it was an easy gamble to take. THANKS!
Thank you! I just took my machine apart and put it back together to repair the (side mount) switch. The switch housing had somehow come apart and I put it back together with a zip tie and reassembled everything - easy-peasy. Much appreciared and subscribed!
Glad to help. Thanks for the sub.
Thank you so much! This worked and saved me $120 on for someone to just come diagnose it!

Wow!!! Exactly what I needed... Thank you for the time and money saving step by step quick fix!!! 👍 Awesome tutorial, it worked!!!! 😊
I saw this a while ago when my washer was having some fits but didn't take the time to fix it.
Tonight, my washer completely quit on me. It has an extra loud click when i closed the lid and it would not start no matter what. I spent hours looking for this exact video and then followed it along and bent my door bar. Threw it back together and its running like a dream.
Now, please excuse me as my wife thinks I'm the best thing since sliced bread.
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL VIDEO, WELL PRESENTED
Thanks
@@WasherDryerMoney Just finishing now, scored a homerun, thank-you for taking me through all the bases, including installing those darn clips at the end.
@@WasherDryerMoney Still not spinning or draining, seems to be lack pf plunger activity during cycle, maybe in primary spin halfway into wash ? belt appears good from what I can see. Lid switch looks good. What would be your next mode of attack, is there a video for this on your channel ?
Hell yeah this guy is the man washer is fixed
Great video and like the room in your workshop. Very informative and easy to follow and understand. No annoying mannerisms at all. Thank you for the help.
Glad to help
Watch so many vids.. came across yours and I was able to find what was wrong and fix … thank you
I haven’t done it yet, but thanks so much for the video, and also my washer lid is very loose it wiggles from side to side what to do
My washer works but I think I need to bend that little rod you showed on the video. Thank you I also have a new switch
My man!! Thank you. You saved me today. Switch was broke
Incredibly thorough video. Thank u very much. This is exactly what I needed and thanks for the adjustment part as that was a bonus. You are one of the best sir. Thanks again

Thanks man, this worked like a charm. I really appreciate guys like you putting up videos like these. Have a great day!

Thanks for showing the process! Swapped my switch out.
Glad to help
Thank you for listing the lid switch! That is the problem with my washer.
Awesome job great video 👍 it helped me fix my washer
Glad to help
Thanks for video; I changed out the lid switch; however the problem still occurs; the washer will spin sometime and other times it will not; what could possibly be the problem here?
Dude, you’re a life saver. I’ve been searching for hours, and this video helped me out tremendously. Thank you! Just liked and subbed! Keep up the good work.
Great info thanks ,I've got the same washer ,replaced split bottom hose on pump a year ago ,had the washer for 21yrs. Now getting some water on floor , but spinning slow cloths still soaked water comes back in the bottom of the drum after spin stops, also smell slight burning odor ,ran it from rinse over 3 times same thing ,switch? pump? ,coupler? clutch? all ? do you have a video for coupler and clutch? thanks I appreciate your expertise and help ,God blessings are with you.
Really appreciate this video. Never had to mess with a washer and you walked me through it perfectly! Thanks man!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Your video has helped me enormously
Glad to help
Excellent video. You did a great job. God bless.
Great vid. When you are aligning front of dryer to put it back together, it would help to see what you are doing with a real bright light. Loving the vids.
it's true. I've upgraded some of my filming equipment recently.
This helped me a lot but whoever's washer that is it is pretty rusty they might as well buy a new one.
Thanks for this video. It let me get my washer going again on a Saturday til a replacement switch can be delivered.
Glad to help.
Can I do this if there’s a load in the washer that wouldn’t start. Or is there a way to drain out the washer first before doing this repair?
Hey thanks. This was the solution to fixing my washer. Works again
glad you got it going.
I have the very washer your speaking of with no holes.... my issue is sometimes it skips the spin cycle and I have to push the knob in and advance it to spin the water out... I believe it is the control switch??????? but I have yet to find the part Rog
I could use your help. I have a Kenmore Model 110.24922200 90 Series washer. After completing one load of wash I started a second. The tub filled with water, agitated then stopped. No matter what setting I put it in nothing happens other then the water will fill. No humming, nothing. I did check the lid switch, it is good, I even jumped it to make sure. I also replaced the timer. I tried tracing the wires but got lost.
My guess would be the capacitor or the motor is bad. I’m not sure the best way of testing that would be. I always had extra sitting around my shop and I would just throw a new one in it to see if it was the problem.
I’m sure if you look for a video you will find the right way to test the motor and capacitor.
Be sure to unplug, and discharge a capacitor before you touch it.
Thank you for replying. I though that may be the issus so I tinkered with another Kenmore 90 series washer was given to me. It agitated but no spin. After checking it out it was only a loose wire. Plugged it in & it went through the cycles. Put a load of cloths in & the only cycle that will now work is the spin. Any help on either one of these would be appreciated. I did notice same series but different timer control model. I did check the lid switch, both are good. I even jumped them to make sure.@@WasherDryerMoney
@@JOEZEP54 do you have the water temperature set to hot?
If so, it could be that the cold water valve has gone bad. Washers will fill with hot water in the beginning but they all have a cold water rinse cycle. This is a rare problem, but very hard to diagnose because of the washer working properly in the beginning, and then randomly stopping when it should be filling with cold water for the rinse cycle.
Thank you. I will go check that now.
I just checked. Turned it to cold/cold on rinse cycle & it was filling with cold water. I will try any other suggestions. Nothing to lose at this point only a possible gain.
Thank you so much my washer works !!!
Would love a cleaning video on this sorta washer too lol ours smells rank
I made a washer cleaning video for this type of Washer. Basically fill the washer up with hot water and let it agitate nearly a whole tub of oxy clean. Do not let it drain. Just open the lid and let it soak overnight. Bonus points add a bucket or two of water after it’s done fill-in to give it a little extra water, and those parts that don’t get touched by water normally.
I just bought the exact same machine yesterday from a shop that refurbishes and sells appliances. How are they in terms of wash quality and reliability?
This was very helpful, can't thank you enough.
Awesome video 👍
Thanks
Thanks for the video gave me the idea to check the switch. Only difference is mine is a side lid open washer
Those will sometimes come on glued. You can zip tie it back together, and it will usually work just fine.

Worked like a charm. Thank you.

Where is the lid description? I need to order one
I have a Kenmore series 80 washing machine. It filled up and then nothing. After testing it, it seems that the tab on the lid that pushes the safety switch down must have broken off some of the tip and is now too short to push the switch down. I'm not even sure what that part is called to look up any information. Any idea how to take that tab off and replace it?
I have a washer just like this one. How do I get to the fill valve? It needs to be replaced. I guess I missed how to get to it. Thanks
The best video ! Thank you so much 😊
Wow just what I needed 👌👌👌
We have the same exact washer and it is filled with water but it cut off with the water in it I’m not sure if it’s because the hose are clogged up or for a different reason
Hello sir! We have the same washer. Does it have fabric softener dispenser.? I can’t find a top load on it. Thank you in advance.
If there is a click in the "right" place and the black plug going to the lid switch box isn't melted or look bad but the lid switch's insides looks worn out (a little brown on white cover and looks kinda rusty inside) would you then replace the lid switch?
Timer works and washer will fill up /add water if I change load but it won't spin or drain 😢
thank you saved me a bunch of cash or a new washer
What is the part called that you adjusted? I need that part.
I have the same model it when I run a small load it drains fine whenever I run it on a large load it won't drain all the water the clothes are still soaking wet
around how much will a timer for an estate washer cost
We have this washer and it has stopped doing anything after it fills with water. Please tell me what might be wrong with it.
My timer doesn’t click when I turn it so I don’t think it’s the safety switch that’s bad. Does this sound right?
Great vid I have the exact same model and the same problem
Yeah I fixed this so many of times. I actually just worked on this for my mother-in-law.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks again. That electrical part u were showing went out. I saw the link in ur description.
@@Jralls3 Sometimes when the lid switch goes out the clutch will go out shortly after. If you notice your washer is not spending all the water out of your clothes make sure to not throw the washer away. It’s a easy fix just replace the clutch if that starts happening.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks I may just replace both
@@WasherDryerMoney I replaced switch. It's back running.
Awesome- thank you for sharing !
Where can I buy the plug that goes into lid switch?
Well thanks for the info "WDM" turns out the hose attached to the drain hose was clogged! I bought switch , pump , coupler , and clutch ,changed the pump (had leak marks on it) and the switch. After I changed pump & switch I tried adjusting the lever ,no change ,so I pulled the extension hose off the drain hose and BOOM she took off!.
Cool
Great video
Help. I replaced the lid switch. Washer worked for the first load after replacing the switch, but doesn't want to spin now. It just grumbles. Got it to spin out after playing with the machine, but it only works when it wants to. Now what?
My washer doesn't have the two vertical screws. How else do I access the area?
Thank you so much God bless you👍🙂👏
We are having an issue with clothes having soup residue, I think there is an issue with the spin cycle. The washer agitates but after wash to rinse the water just drains and not spinning.
Could be the coupler or the clutch. Usually, if it’s the coupler, it will make a bit of a noise.
What is the code for the lid switch to order?
I replace my whirlpool lid switch.
It's front right.
The lid won't even close?
I need to pop it back out and look closer.theres two pieces that move .black part/white part.guess ones the lock part./the other just to let it know it's closed.
Very nice video thanks!!
So I do have the lid switch on the side where you touched in the beginning. How do I replace that. I need to do it ASAP.
Sorry I did not see this comment earlier. For some reason I didn’t get a notification.
I can’t get the top off to get to the lid switch.no screws just the clips in front. Pried it and tried to pull it forward to roll it up, won’t budge. Please help
Great! Thank you
Hi does that washer agitator have a coupling/dog ears, or do you have to replace the entire agitator?
Most of the educators that ratchet have those dog ears. Usually they’re very easy to replace there’s a bunch a good walk-through videos on that.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks for responding. I took agitator off a whirlpool estate, it didn't have dog ears or coupling. I'll keep searching for videos. Have a good day. Subscribed
Thank you! Just fixed mine! Who needs a husband when there is RUclips. 😂
I have a estate washer the middle part isnt moving when washing what do i need to fix it?
The bearing probably
I have an eaten by whirlpool and lately it has not been spinning the closeout dry they are still soaking wet I have peaked in there and it is turning but the clothes are still soaking wet any ideas. It is draining and removing water but it use to be so much better at spinning the water out. The drum is spinning but just not like it use to
It’s probably the clutch if it’s an older style washer. The type you pull the knife out to turn on. It’s probably starting to go bad and not spinning the clothes out hard enough. It’s a super cheap part.
@@WasherDryerMoney yep clutch was bad then I was getting a loud whirring not grinding so I took the pump off the shaft and put it on spin and the sound went away . Ordered a new pump as well. It was weird because it was still pumping water out fine guessing a bearing inside was going bad ?
I did this but it didn’t work. When it spins, it makes a loud banging noise. Any advice?
You are a life saver!!! Thank you!!!
Glad to help
My washer makes a loud grinding sound on startup, will agitate just fine but will never spin? Any thoughts?
If it’s the same machine that’s in this video I’m not 100% sure if it’s the type of machine that has the six LED lights and the Pause play button I would guess that it’s the spluch.
I think my lid switch is fine it's just the wires are burnt up a little bit where can I get those.
I see that happen a lot. For some reason when the clutch goes bad on a washer it will draw too much power through those lid switches. At least I have noticed that’s a common problem that happens when the clutch is also start to go bad. You could definitely get a new lid switch very inexpensively and carefully Cut off the bad wire while it’s unplugged and redo the connection.
How do you calibrate it?
This video is about a direct drive washer. It does not have a recalibration like the newer ones do.
Does anyone know how many cu ft this washer is?
My washer fills water and then it does nothing, no wash, no spin, no drain. But at washing process it makes a noise but the plastic inside the machin doesnt turn around
Great info, thanks for posting.
Thanks for commenting.
I just changed the switch. It makes a buzzing sound now
That’s weird. I would say it’s probably a bad switch. I got another video on replacing the lid switch coming out tomorrow. Hope it helps.
My Whirlpool Estate washer does not fully fill with water at the rinse cycle only (knob is at high). A repair person told a feature of this model is the rinse cycle shoots water in at time of spinning so it's not suppose to fill the tub with water. Is that true
That is true for some machines. Different companies have different ways of washing clothes. Even the same brand from one year to another will be slightly different. I have seen several machines that spin the clothes and pour water through them for the rinse cycle.
My Estate washer;model:ETW4400WQ0 is making a loud grinding noise when nice it switches to last spin cycle. Once it is finished clothe are dripping wit water… can u please help
It may be easy coupler needs to be replaced. Lots of great videos on that. He could also be the clutch but if it’s making a noise it’s more than likely the coupler.
My makes a liite sound lby the control board but does nothing
