Thank you Bill Newberry! I watched your video on washer not spinning and determined it was the clutch not working. I ordered the clutch and the coupler just because and fixed my washer myself. I'm a 52 year old woman. My repairman told me that I needed to buy a new machine and I had to talk my husband into letting me try. My washer is fixed! I'm so excited and proud that I did it with your help! Thanks for all that you do.
Hey Bill, I am not very mechanical and was going to spend $450 for a new washer yesterday. I followed your instructions, took the Kenmore apart, saw the broken coupler spent $24 for a new coupler (now with metal on the inside), put everything back together, and to my surprise, it worked! I did it!!! Thanks you sooooooo much!!!
Not only do you show how to fix the problem, but you do it step by step and in a well lit area... Also you keep a smooth continuity to your explanation and attack of the problem... Great job!
Great video! I fixed the coupling in my washer for just $5.75 and an hour or two of labor. I wish all the DIY videos on RUclips were like this. Thanks again!!!
Bill, You rock! Your videos guided me and my husband through removing the outer case, replacing the coupler, and putting the case back on. All because you explained everything so well. $18 for one updated and stronger part, NO need to call a service tech. Thank you!!!
40+ y.o. female just diagnosed our washing machine with the help of your video. Need a new clutch! Appreciate your clarity and attention to detail, along with the part numbers for parts needed to fix.
Thanks a ton Bill! I'm unemployed, my car needs repairs, my motorcycle battery is dead, then this! Watched your vid found a motor coupler broken. While leaving this comment I saw where someone got one on Amazon for a couple of bucks. Just what I needed. Now if the car repair were so easy and cheap!
Thanks Bill. I just did what you told me. I didn't trust that I could actually pull it off, so I did my laundry this morning for $5.00 at a laudrymat just to make sure I have clothes for work tomorrow. I came home and fixed the washer and it works great. I even replaced the clutch too. Congrats on getting over a million views on this video too. How does it feel to know you helped over a million people! Thanks so much.
Thankyou so much Bill! I am a mum with 3 young kids in Australia. Our ''Made in USA" Whirlpool stopped spinning - the only time anything has gone wrong with it in nearly 15 years of use! I followed your RUclips clip, found the broken motor coupler; ordered the new part & have just finished fitting it. I am so so HAPPY!! The machine is now working as normal again! Thankyou so much! X
This video helped me discover what that noise was a couple days ago, why our washing machine doesn’t always drain the water out of the clothes, and how to identify what the circular disc is that I just found. Now I know where it goes, what’s going on., and how to fix it. Thank you 😊
Our washer stopped spinning; though I could hear a motor. I figured it was old, and it would be at least $200 to have whatever fixed. My hands are full with two little kids, a nursery project we need done yesterday, stuff to fix up in a house we bought last year. It's Labor Day weekend... why not buy a new one? I was all ready to check out, of course buying a matching dryer, stands, pushing my cart well into the thousands. I stopped and thought, "Let's check RUclips. I should at least do a little troubleshooting." This comes up, and I quickly realized how simple this would be. It was the coupler! Thanks for explaining everything so well, and giving a non-handy dude the confidence to DIY.
Thanks for this video (and the Part 2). I have a 15yo Whirlpool washer and I've repaired it three times. First time was the motor coupling. I didn't find a video until after the repair, lol. My machine had been making a "chunky" sound when agitating, is best I could describe it, before it finally quit working all together. I was working off a repair manual and trying to figure things out, and needlessly disconnecting hoses from the pump and flooding my laundry room and subsequently shorting out a CGFI circuit. Then when I put the motor back on, I installed it upside down and the place where I needed to reattach the wires was on the opposite side. Oops. Good times, lol. But I got it working. Next repair was the lid switch. Suuuuuper easy compared to the motor coupling. Then today I replaced the clutch. Couldn't have done it without your videos. This repair would have gone a lot smoother if I didn't also have to replace my valves in the wall of my laundry room, both of which had gone bad, lol. But, everything is back in place and working again, yay.
I have the exact washer in this video. Best part is how you explain how much tension is required to properly operate. I was surprised to see just 3 pads...there's room for more. Anyway you're saving me money. Thanks for the video...appreciated!
This was SUCH a huge help for my Whirlpool washer. My issue wasn’t the focal point of this video but he did mention it. It was the CORE of the plastic part of the motor coupler. It was stripped, but I could barely tell from looking and testing w my hands. It still gripped the bolt when I turned it by hand, but it felt a little loose on the initial 1/4 inch turn and THEN it would lock in place. But like he said, when the washer really gets spinning, it apparently wouldn’t grip. Once I bought a new piece ($18 for the set of both plastic pieces and rubber piece they go into), it’s spinning perfect again!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! HUGE HELP!!
Thanks Chris, I had a dual problem. First the lid switch went. I bypassed the electrical system on the switch from another RUclips video Under Washing Machine Lid Bypass and I also had this problem. I was sooooo happy when I lifted up the washer and saw all the white broken pieces of the coupler. I knew it was going to be easy to fix. It actually turned out to be easier than I thought!! Bravo!! AND THANKS AGAIN!!
Bill, thanks to your video I spent about $14.00 to replace the motor coupling. 5 of the 6 plastic nobes were broken and the rubber thing was ripped up. Had I not found your video, I would never have considered trying to fix the problem myself. Thanks to your very detailed, and perfect video, It was like having an expert with me showing what to do. We need more videos of this nature for other repair job that someone with a few tools, and a bit of mechanical experience can do at home.
This is the second time I had a problem with my washer... Both times I had different problems... Both times I checked out your videos and both times you hit the nail on the head... God bless you! 😇😁👍👏
Just when I thought I had to replace my washer, "boy was I wrong! Called my local repair store and based on the details I related he said " Your transmission is bad and needs to be replaced" I believed him assuming he's the technician and has gone through this many times, as he said himself...however, I came across this vid and I was amazed how detailed this was! It was only my coupler, in thirty minutes and $5.00 my washer was back to normal. Great video! Thanks Bill
Great video. I bought a washer from someone for $50 and they knew the darn thing was broken. I gave my old washer to my brother and now this one doesn't spin at times. Just like you say, it does not spin with a larger load and I have to open the lid and hold the lid switch in while giving it a push to get it started. Then it will spin fine. Otherwise it will sound like it's spinning but it isn't actually moving at all. When I try it with the washer empty, it can engage the spin without any manual help. I already replaced the coupler a long time ago, when I got the machine. I was going to buy the clutch but then others had me believing it may not be the clutch and/or it may be the drive as well. But now i'm feeling confident enough that it is indeed the clutch and have just ordered one to install. Thanks a lot for the expertise! Edit: I see the link to Amazon for the clutch is now out of stock. Only one offer for a used clutch for $63!!! lol I already bought mine though from RepairClinic for $40 after taxes and shipping.
I just replaced the coupler, based on your video and I am back to washing clothes. The coupler was cracked, but I couldn't see the crack until I removed the motor from the transmission. $9 later, back in business. Thanks for posting the videos.
I have a Roper washing machine. it doesn't spin anymore. With your first video it's easy for me to understand the problem. Big THANK YOU Bill for your help.
Thank you your voice really calm me down since I'm a woman who lives alone a lot of repairman I've cheated me and rob me I looked at a lot of RUclips channels something about your voice really relaxed me down I'm really nervous
Hey Bill. Great video. I followed your easy instructions and found the motor coupler had disintegrated. Took it apart and replaced it today. My wife joked she had to finish the laundry. I appreciate your instructions did not include taking off the cabinet.
Thank you. You were right the coupler looked OK but it was split. Almost gave up but your words resonated in my mind and compelled me to check it anyway. And now my mom is very happy that she can finish washing her towels. Thank you for being the RUclips Dad.
My set are 2004 models Atlantis I love them and my washer won’t spin. Never a problem before except replacing that plastic piece you pushed in on top! I’m a woman alone who knows someone that could do this, and I know an online shop that might have what I need. I’ll show the guy this video but he may not need it, only I do! 😊 Well done, Thank you!
Really great. I looked at a bunch of them and this is the one that told you to push in the transmission before trying to replace the clutch. He really knows his stuff and, and I say this as a coach and teacher, he's a natural teacher. Great job Bill!
Outstanding pair of videos - I should have watched these before muddling around myself. Once I found these it was all clear. Make sure you follow the steps and keep good track of your parts. RIP Bill.
Bill, thank you I diagnosed & repaired following your step by step instructions. Found motor coupler pieces on floor upon tilting machine ordered part on amazon fixed for $2.96 saved a ton of money thank you Bill. I did remove the cabinet as it was loose and wanted to secure it on properly when doing this there is a water tube in the back make sure that is secured on properly as mine came off accidentally and leaked (my fault). Machine is working like a charm now thank you again BIll
Just donated to your channel. Thanks a ton for the informative video; it helped me realize that the clutch on my washer was broken. $15 in parts later I was back in business. Sincerely appreciate people like you who will put in the effort to make great content. Please keep up the good work.
Video was very easy to follow. THANK YOU!! Fixed our washer for $18-new coupler and clutch we ordered online. Our spin cycle would occasionally not work. I'd go to get the clothes out and they were still very wet. It sounded like it was spinning but the tub wasn't moving. We couldn't determine for sure which part was faulty by looking at them so we replaced both. A good idea anyway since they both wear out over time. One tip I saw online is called the "hand test" to test the clutch. I put my hand against the sides of the tub after a few seconds into the spin cycle and tried to stop the tub with my hand. I could stop it using moderate pressure before the repair but now the spin cycle is extremely strong and unstoppable with my hand. I would caution if you take the washer case off, keep an eye on the little plastic hose that attaches under the knob control console. It is behind the load size knob and runs down into the back of the washer. It's called the vacuum hose. I think we tried to lift the knob console up too far and we pulled the hose off where it attaches in the back of the washer. We had flooding with the first load. . I put a newspaper under the washer to find where the water was coming from then found the loose hose with a flashlight & wedged my hand in the back of the machine to reattach it. Hope this description helps someone else. Great job on the video!!
Hey I just wanted to say thank you for all you help...I single handed the coupler repair on my kenmore washer, and I'm very happy!!! Couldn't have done it without ya....
OK. You helped me twice now. First with the agitator dogs to get the agitator working again...( awesome, thank you ) now with the coupler. I did exactly as you did. Piece of cake. The coupler was cracked. $10 part at Sears. One thing I'd like to add though if I may. The white plastic "legged" parts of the coupler, will be snug on the shaft, if its not cracked, or just a leg or two is broken, meaning, the one side thats NOT cracked, is tight on the motor shaft, or tranny shaft. A screw driver will pry them off. I was going to replace both sides of the coupler, since it comes with all new parts. The two "legged" sides, and the rubber bushing that goes between. When you put the new ones on, you will have to tap them all the way on. They slide on alittle of the way, but wont be fully seated, unless you tap them all the way onto the shaft. I used a 1/2 socket, on a 6 inch extension, and tapped it with the ratchet, like a hammer. ( yes, too lazy to get up, walk to the tool chest and dig out a hammer. It pops on fairly easy, but its too hard to get all the way on by hand, without tapping it. I didnt have to take the tranny off the machine to do this job. It was VERY obvious that the coupler was cracked, by using a finger and trying to "bend" it, you'll find the crack. Just took the motor off, and there it is. Whole job took me an hour, INCLUDING the drive to and from Sears before they closed. Thanks again Bill!!! guys like you help poor guys like me get things done. $10 in parts compared to a new $500 washing machine. My wife was in tears saying she'd pay for the new washing machine, when I walked in the door from work, and told me she broke the washing machine. Nothing better then fixing it for $10 bucks, and saving yourself a few hundred. Thanks man!
Bill, Thank you! I've got a Kenmore washer that will spin the wife's undies, but no a load of towels or anything heavy. This lead me to a search on google and then I got this video! Aweseome videos, Thanks I've got the skill to do the repair however I wasn't sure how. thanks to you I'm fully confident in doing this now. I had already tipped up the machine and found that the motor coupler looked solid! That left me with an unknown situation. I really appreciate your efforts and applaud you for doing these videos. Thank you again. It is people like you and videos like this that make home repair so simple.
Thank you!!! Excellent breakdown of each part, their purpose and most importantly how they function. I’ve never done this type of job before and this video helped me tremendously. That said, I don’t my other half is too happy as was hoping to go buy a new washer and dryer today...Not so fast, lil lady! Bill just saved me $2,000...thank you
Yes! Thanks for the tutorial, I almost bought a new washer dryer set but I watched a couple of your videos and now my old equipment is working fine. Probably saved me at least $600. I didn't realize it would be so easy. Thought I would have definitely needed a repairman but these machines are very simple... I appreciate it!
Bill, you are the best!!! I am not very handy with tools, but your directions were very detailed and extremely helpful!!! I learned that the clutch was bad and fixed it very easily thanks to your great tutorial!! My husband and I are in shock that I fixed it!! Thanks Bill for saving us money by not having to call a repairman!! You're my new best friend!
Thank you for sharing the video, this helped me fix the problem with my washer. The actual problem is not with the motor coupler or the clutch. So while I was checking the motor coupler, it was not rotating when the pump was connected, I luckily happen to notice this. In your video, you spin the coupler when the pump was attached. So I disconnected the pump and tried to rotate the coupler and it rotated freely. Then I disconnected the pump from the motor and from the two black pipes. I inspected the inside of the pump and there was a child's sock stuck in there. Now, I have no idea how it managed to get in there but I used plyers to pull it out. I immediately knew that was the problem. I connected everything back together and the washer started to work just fine. Once again, thank you for spending the time to share such videos, you saved a few hundred bucks for me and I am sure for countless others. I hope my comment helps a few home owners fix their washers. I was about to order the clutch, which wouldn’t have solved the problem, which would have made me purchase a new washer and dump my current one. That would have been such a waste.
Still watching in anticipation of trying to fix my washer when i get home. EXCELLENT description of every little step and how and why. Really thorough, thanks!
Years ago (2007) I was having a problem with mine and I found out that the clutch was getting sprayed with oil from the gearbox vent hole? So I sprayed it with brake clean covered the vent hole with a piece of felt and I never had a problem again. Great video!
Many thanks my friend!!!!!! I replaced the clutch of my washer and it is now working fine! You saved me hundreds of dollars! MORE POWER TO YOU AND THANKS AGAIN!
Bill, you're the man. You have a great knack for conveying information concisely and accurately. I'd never opened up a washing machine before, but with your video I was able to swap out my motor coupler no problem. The unit I had was all plastic, but the replacements have a metal insert in the middle to increase durability. Thank you again for your help sir.
Thank you so much for your detailed video. We had a bad clutch in our 10 year old Whirlpool that we love and did not want to part with. Thanks to your video we were able to replace the clutch ourselves at very minimum cost and now our machine is working like new again.
Thank you so much bill! Thanx to your video, my husband was able to point out that we needed to replace the motor coupler due to a crack, with a new one in order to get our washer to spin; our new piece has arrived today and my husband just slapped it in where the motor coupler goes, and the washer started spinning again! Thank u tons bill! Regards, Ariadna &jhonathan
Bill, thanks for making my day, dude! Our Whirlpool stopped spinning a few days ago. It's old, almost 20 years, but I really didn't want to spend the money for a new one. Found your video (I love the internet), watched it, figured out it was the motor coupler, bought the part here in town (San Diego) and 2 hours later (video to finish) my washer is working. Thanks for taking the time to put this up. Truly appreciate it. My wife says I'm awesome...what happens on youtube stays on youtube. Cheers!
Thank you. There are lots of videos showing how to replace parts of the washer, but yours is the first I found that actually shows how to tell if a part is bad, because sometimes it isn't obvious. It appears I had a simultaneous failure of the coupling between the motor and the transmission (rounded out on the transmission side) and the inside parts of the agitator. I didn't find a video on your site about the agitator, but it was obviously broken (retainer ring for dog ears is loose and the dog ears were just rattling around). Thanks again!
Thanks for the video Bill. Had never attempted washing machine repair. Pulled it apart Saturday based on watching your vid; drive coupling was in good shape so pulled the motor out, clutch was toast. Ordered new one on Amazon for $20 (got the whole clutch assembly, lots of grease in bottom of old one so just replaced it and the semi-melted plastic brake). Got it tonight, reassembled, everything working well now. Thanks Bill!
You rock! We are strapped ..really and because of you our washer is working for 3 dollars and fifty cents. Seriously we are in a small town without easy access to a laundry mat and would not even be able to get anouther washer used for a while so thank you thank you thank you!
Our Whirlpool stopped spinning (just as I was washing blankets). I was going to call Sears, thought we would check out other options. We are not handy people, so we we thought this wasn't something we could take on. This tutorial is detailed in a way that we feel we can at least attempt to diagnose and fix. If it doesn't work and we need to call someone, so be it. But we got to be able to start some where! Thanks so much!
Thanks to you I was able to test the clutch and finally realize what has been going wrong. The furthest I have worked on a washer before was a lid switch, this was way deeper than I would have ever ventured, so thanks for making it easy. Great explanation and tips all along the way. Now off to get the replacement and earn more 'Man Points!'
Bill, Thank-you so much for the detailed video it's so great! I had the same problem and thanks to your video I successfully fixed our washer. The washer runs just like new! I was about to throw it away and buy a new one until I ran across your site. 25$ for the clutch. You saved our family $1000. Thanks so much Bill, were grateful to you =)
Super thankful for your time and videos. Tried the coupler first (per your video) and no success. Clutch was next and I'm not too certain I'd have figured it out without your work and assistance. Of course, I had the square nut inside the agitator - ugh - and was able to get that out with a wood clamp I had. Again...much thanks and all the best!
thank you so much for taking the time to help others. it should be satisfying to know that people will benefit from your kindness for years to come.. it was the motor coupler and it was rounded out. greatly appreciated
Bill thank you so much I literally fixed it in 10 minutes went down to the supply house 3 miles away got the Cupler put it back together save me thousands of dollars thank you so much
Thanks Bill. I can take my car and many other things apart, but you helped with the diagnosis and showing exactly which parts to get at. New clutch installed and working well. Motor coupler was still ok, but while I had it apart, I installed a new motor coupler with the metal reinforced center pieces that connect to the drive shaft. Thanks again for the help and advice. Your videos are creating good karma for you!
Hey Bill awesome is all I have to say I was up VERY late last night watching these Vids. Told my Wife I could fix the washer and save us some alot of money, she wouldn't let me tear into the washer but I showed her your vids and she said OK lets try it, wow too easy man its tore apart and I ordered the Clutch Assembly should have them Tuesday. Thanks
Thank you for the informative video. Alot of videos just show you how to replace, but don't explain exactly how the parts work together or what a bad clutch looks like. So thank you for that.
Awesome video Bill. I can't go over how informative and precise your videos are. My wife woke me up at 7am Sunday morning telling me there is a problem with the machine. Well, ya know what it's like when one of the Mrs.' things aren't working. I knew nothing about appliances, I watched your video and found a broken motor coupler. Awesome, thanks.
Excellent lesson. I stumbled on this on the verge of buying a new machine. The symptom is the machine goes through the cycles but will not spin. I lift the lid when the spin cycle SHOULD start and hit the lid switch again and it spins. So everything works but the spin is balky to start. Will let you know if this fixes my problem.
Thanks Bill, You just saved me a lot of money!! Very easy, It took longer to watch these videos then to repair my washer. 20 min and a $5 part and I am back to clean underwear!!
GIovanni, I just had the same problem. Coupler felt okay but when I took motor off i discovered the broken coupler. I recommend you take motor off transmission to check coupler. BTW Thanks Bill. Saved me money on this.
Thanks Bill, finally someone explained how the clutch works and it makes total sense why my washer only spins about half the speed it should. Thanks again.
Mr. Newberry I got the part I did exactly as you explained and my washing machine is working perfectly. Thank you very much. Saved me a lot of money......
bill.... great video, was able to repair my washer by replacing clutch and coupler...could not have done without your very professional video....parts were 85 bucks...servive call would have more than that, plus wait time...U DA MAN...tim newberry in lubbock texas
Thank you so much. My washer had a broken coupling and a broken clutch. Because of your awesome videos I was able to fix it. Very good instructions. Thanks Again!
Thanks Bill for sharing this video. I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty 110 and it won't spin. I have found plastic and rubber shavings around the motor coupler although the video doesn't show how you removed the coupler I'm sure it's rather simple. Total cost to fix 18$ with shipping.
Thanks for this great video! I followed it, but discovered a different problem; my wife's panties got stuck somehow in the water pump. This caused the motor to not move at all. I got them out and it runs perfectly. No need for new parts and I got a good look inside to make sure they are look fine. Thanks again!
Thanks, Bill. Very informative and I did it right the first time. Not hard at all. However, the coupler's don't appear to be rounded, although the teeth inside look warn so I'm going to purchase the replacement kit. I'm also going to replace the clutch ring, spring and pads (which is also a kit), and put it back together and see what happens. Wish me luck!
Such helpful videos, thank you. The above video Part 1, 2, How to Troubleshoot and Cabinet Removal were extremely helpful. Thank you for producing clear, precise and understandable videos. My husband and I were able to watch, pause and perform each step perfectly, steps and parts were exactly where you showed them. $34 and a little drive later my washer was up and running like new. I had not realized how much my washer's spinning cycle had weakened until the clutch was replace, what a huge difference. It could be just my imagination but I think that it even agitates better. THANK YOU :)
Thank you very much for your video I was able to confirm my coupler was good. I continued through the video and found I had a bad clutch brace and replace it. The machine is spinning perfectly!
Just wanted to say thanks for the video! Saved a lot of time/guessing/research. I had to replace the coupler. One tip I got from my local parts guy on installing that piece is to ensure both the motor and transmission shafts are inserted into the coupler at the proper depth (flush with the hole in the plastic parts), which can be accomplished by using a screwdriver handle inserted into the plastic coupler between the teeth and driving the plastic part onto each shaft, then matching up the holes and teeth.
Bill, followed your tutorial and replaced clutch (although old one didn't look too bad). Motor coupling good. Still won't start spinning EXCEPT when I stop it (then it spins a little) & and start it again. Somethings keeping it from getting going on its own
Bill, a million thanks for your videos, you are a saint! Visiting my folks over the holiday weekend and was able to replace a faulty clutch on my mom's 4 yo Whirlpool! Total cost for parts was $37.00, and about an hour of work, including driving to parts store! THANKS and a Happy New Year to you and yours!!!!
My gosh, what a great video, thank you so much. When I teach something I try to be as insightful and as thorough as possible, and I look for that type of instruction as much as possible, and you did just that, thanks again so much!!!!!
Hey Bill awesome videos! The details are much appreciated! I did the diagnosis and had a broken coupler, replaced as you described, my machine agitates fine now, however during spin cycle machine makes grinding noises and seems to be trying to continue to agitate during spin cycle. My question is, Is it possible that a faulty transmission caused my coupler to break? Machine 10 years old, transmission 210 dollars, new machine 300-400. advice? Thanks in advance +++Bob
Thanks Bill, your video helped me figure out what was wrong with my washer. FYI, my problem was with the plastic pin that extends into the lid switch wasn’t going far enough into the switch.. replaced the rubber washer with a thinner one. 😁
Bill Newberry ! I subscribed to your channel to show support , thank you for your in depth video , you explain things well and also get those camera angles well and show what needs to be done . Great job and keep it up, I myself am mechanical inclined and I had a 'serviceman' come out as part of a botchy warranty and try to charge me hundreds on stuff I didn't need , $9 and 45 minutes later., I replaced the motor coupling and the washer is as new. Hats off to you sir! You are appreciated!
Bill, thanks for the great video. I have a ? I disassembled my washer and checked the clutch. It was fine. Reassembly went smooth but the agitator would not spin counter clockwise. I even took it apart a second time and made sure the brake arm was fully turned to top setting. Reassembled, same result. What did I mess up?
Thanks for the video. Your detailed explanation including the hints and tricks were great. This enabled me to diagnose a bad clutch and replace it myself, saving me repair costs. I just wish at the end you would have done the full reassembly including the electrical connections for completeness.
Hey Bill. thanks so much for the very comprehensive and clear explanation! we have successfully replaced the motor coupler after diagnosing with your excellent video. mission accomplished, however after completing the job (drains perfectly now!) i can smell a slight burning odor - not sure if that is grease, metal, rubber - but everything works fine. any suggestions? should i stop using it? thanks so much!! very appreciative fan in California!!
First of all, thanks for the helpful video. Second...do NOT buy ANYTHING but the genuine clutch kit. Those 6 pad rings or clutch kits are more likely to be TRASH than not. I installed a knockoff once. The clutch pads were worn out in a MONTH. We do a LOT of laundry, but that's nuts. I checked with a local appliance parts place...they've never seen a 6 pad ring that is a genuine part. I read the Amazon reviews AFTERWARD and found out that the "3 star rated" 6 pad clutch I bought had entirely either 1 star or 5 star ratings. The 5 star ratings were from people who just installed it (machine works great at first). The 1 star ratings were from people who wrote their review after 4-6 months and the clutch had failed. 6 junk pads are not better than 3 good ones! Shalom!
Thanks for taking time to do this. You gave me the know how to fix my washer. I really don't have the money to run out and buy a new washer right now you were a big help. Also you did a very good job explaining everything and you filming was stop on. Thanks again.
I was able to fix my washer after this! I wanted to add that instead of buying a new clutch, I just cleaned mine and added a washer to the spring and it worked! Thanks so much for the help! Now trying to figure out my dryer. :(
I just did this too. I had two small washers that were the perfect size to fit inside the spring caps. I put one on each end and reinstalled it and the drum is now spinning. Just have to run an actual load and see if it's strong enough.

Thanks again!!!
arrow282 Thanks for the Great Comment!
Will Klein did it work out?
We need more videos of this nature for other repair job that someone with a few tools, and a bit of mechanical experience can do at home.
samckins Awesome! Thanks for the great comment and great job on your repair!
Awesome Job!
D8d you get your washer fixed
+Tommy Thompson Awesome! Thank you very much! Glad I was able to help out!
Thanks man!
way 2 long 2 reed.
I read the whole thing. Great response, Blaydrnnnr!
I forgot to add that I surprised my husband when he got home...he was very impressed! I now subscribe to your videos!
Thank you!!! Excellent breakdown of each part, their purpose and most importantly how they function. I’ve never done this type of job before and this video helped me tremendously. That said, I don’t my other half is too happy as was hoping to go buy a new washer and dryer today...Not so fast, lil lady! Bill just saved me $2,000...thank you
Wqwqqwqqqq
Awesome! That's what I like to hear! Great Job with your Repairs!
THANK YOU!!! I can now fix my issue with confidence. I am a welder, not an appliance repair.... You made my issue an easy fix.
Praveen Meka AWESOME! Thanks for the Comment and Great Job on your Repair!
Bill Newberry
A newborn fresh out the womb could easily understand both pt.1 and 2 of ur Awesome vids. Thank you so much. 🌹
Just finished fixing my washer easy instructions great video proud of myself for being 64 thank you
Thank you so much for your detailed video. We had a bad clutch in our 10 year old Whirlpool that we love and did not want to part with. Thanks to your video we were able to replace the clutch ourselves at very minimum cost and now our machine is working like new again.
Tanya Hazard Awesome!
Bill Newberry Thanks for your video . Replaced the clutch in about 45 min and washer is working as it should . Again , Thanks !
Thank you so much Bill you saved me like $700 from buying a new washer, I followed your instructions and it was easy to do, it was the clutch👍🏽
Dude. This video was fantastic. The motor coupler was my issue. In 2 days and $7, I'll be back in business. Thanks for being so detailed and clear!
Regards,
Ariadna &jhonathan
Bill, thanks for making my day, dude! Our Whirlpool stopped spinning a few days ago. It's old, almost 20 years, but I really didn't want to spend the money for a new one. Found your video (I love the internet), watched it, figured out it was the motor coupler, bought the part here in town (San Diego) and 2 hours later (video to finish) my washer is working. Thanks for taking the time to put this up. Truly appreciate it. My wife says I'm awesome...what happens on youtube stays on youtube. Cheers!
OMG you are the best! My husband was able to fix our washing machine after watching your video one time. Thanks so much!
This is the very best video on replacing the clutch on RUclips. Many thanks to you sir!
Thanks so much!
carla mackay I have faith in you! Just take your time and don't get frustrated. Let me know how you make out
We totally fixed it!!! Woot Woot!!!!
You saved me hundreds of dollars from having to buy a new washer! You the man!
thank you so much for taking the time to help others. it should be satisfying to know that people will benefit from your kindness for years to come.. it was the motor coupler and it was rounded out. greatly appreciated
I'm not handy at all but today I took on the task of fixing my non spinning washer. Thanx to you video I was able to fix it. It took me 7 hours lol
Chris Lewis Awesome!
Chris Lewis love clean underwear
Your videos are so dang good. I've fixed dozens of washers and dryers over the years by watching them. Thanks so much.
GIovanni, I just had the same problem. Coupler felt okay but when I took motor off i discovered the broken coupler. I recommend you take motor off transmission to check coupler. BTW Thanks Bill. Saved me money on this.
Was able to fix this myself thanks to your clear instructions and only cost $10 for parts. Thanks!
Thanks Bill, finally someone explained how the clutch works and it makes total sense why my washer only spins about half the speed it should. Thanks again.
Bill, your the best! As an appliance specialist at HD, I use what I've learned from your videos to better serve my customers.
Awesome! That's what I like to hear! It makes my day when when I read comments like this. Thanks for Subscribing and watching my videos.
Ronnie A. Awesome!
Thank you very much for your video I was able to confirm my coupler was good. I continued through the video and found I had a bad clutch brace and replace it. The machine is spinning perfectly!
Bill,
This was great! You are helping a lot of people that live on tight budgets stay out of the red!
Somethings keeping it from getting going on its own
Thanks to you Bill, I fixed my machine, saved some money and made the wifey happy!
Hey Bill, Are you an ole Jarhead? Your going through your video like a class in the Corps! Very precise and fully accurate! No questions necessary!
Thanks again.
cyberecc Awesome! Thanks for the Great Comment!
I was able to fix my washer after this! I wanted to add that instead of buying a new clutch, I just cleaned mine and added a washer to the spring and it worked! Thanks so much for the help! Now trying to figure out my dryer. :(
yeah Bill thanks for taking to time to post this...this is what the internet should be.
I just did this too. I had two small washers that were the perfect size to fit inside the spring caps. I put one on each end and reinstalled it and the drum is now spinning. Just have to run an actual load and see if it's strong enough.
Thanks for the fantastic instructions Bill! My 12 yo fixed my washing machine today. Spins like a top now! Awesome. :-)
