I have old Kitchen Aid Washer. it rinsed but did drain nor spin. Symptoms are exactly like you show in your video, so I followed your instructions and bingo, it worked like a miracle, took 10 minutes and a a zip tie. Thank you so much for saving me at least $200 services. What a saver, helpful man you are.

You are awesome!!!! I am so glad, that I am jumping and shouting with joy. My husband was helping me doing the laundry this afternoon when he told me the machine was not draining. I watched other videos in you tube looking for the possible problems and their solutions, but I found them difficult because I have no tools or the strength needed to tilt the machine and do all the job; I am a 63 years old lady. My husband is disabled. I just followed your instructions, and voilà!! My machine is working again. Thanks. You saved me from buying a new machine and investing money that I do not have. Again, a million thanks.

The factory appied glue has worn out and it seperates now making improper contact when pushed!! You saved me a call or calls to Whirlpool \ Kitchen Aid and nobody wants to deal with those guys..TRUST ME! :) THANK YOU!!!

I want to thank you so VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Two days ago my wife came to me and said the washer of 18 years had quit working during spin cycle. Well I said to myself the old washer was ready for washer/dryer heaven. We went out to several places to compare prices including looking on line. This week I was able to buy a new washer and dryer, no sense in getting a new washer without the other. That would have been over $1200.00 and it's at sale price. Thought there has got to be a way out of this and that's when I came across your video. For the cost of $1.95 for a bag of zip ties from Home Depot and two minutes work, felt like I won the lotto. Really appreciate you doing this video.

I troubleshot this problem for hours. I gave up and have been going to the laundromat for weeks. Was planning to buy a replacement washer but decided to research one more time when I found this. I didn't think it was a lid switch problem, but after taking 5 minutes to zip tie the switch, the washer works Perfectly! Thanks, Bro!

You are Brilliant! I looked at various DIY methods involving jumping wires, bypassing the switch, etc. My wife was not having any of that for it did not seem safe. My model had a bracket that prevented me from tying underneath and around so I tied it from side to side, being careful not to obstruct any of the screw holes, etc.. So far, it has worked perfectly! At a minimum it should hold until the inexpensive new part arrives, meanwhile, we can still do laundry! Thanks much!

Thank you!!!!! This worked!! I was after my husband to fix ours and showed him this video. When he saw it took a few minutes he finally fixed it!!
I was researching new washers and read horrible reviews of the high efficiency washers and how people hate them! I want to hang on to my whirlpool washer from 2001 as long as possible because they were made to last and let you choose your water level.
This saved us so much money! ThAnks again!

Your video was a life saver!! Thank you soooo much!!! My old washer had broken, so my son and me hauled a new one upstairs to hook up. When it sat there, with a tub full of water...I threw my hands up. I thought my new one had just broken also! I saw your video and started thinking maybe the piece broke on the lid because we accidentally slammed it off the dolly kinda hard. Sure enough, the zip tie fixed it!! I’m a happy mom!!!

Yesterday my washing machine stopped spinning and draining. Then I saw this video. I saw it again and went to open the switch. It was loose so it was not functioning properly. Then I just did how you showed to use cable tie. I took just 2 minutes to do that. It started working perfectly. I was checking for the price of new machine for buying. Now I saved big money because of this technician. Thanks Thanks Thanks.

I am 70 years old. After I come home from water aerobics, I always put my swimsuit in the washer and spin it to get the majority of the water off, rather than put it in the drier. I panicked when my washer would not spin. So I looked up instructions on RUclips and liked your description best . I followed your ideas and now it works. Thank you for being so detailed but clear about what I needed to do !

Thank you. 68 year old woman here. To be honest, I am generally leery of repairs that claim to only require a few hairpins and a wad of bubblegum, but as the issue was just a matter of bringing the switch casing back into alignment, it turned out to be, as you promised, a 5-minute fix. My Kenmore Series 80 washing machine is back in service, and now I have time to order a proper new switch to replace the failed one, without having to live with a machine that would have needed bailing out.

Five minutes later with my trusty phillips screwdriver all was fixed and machine was working again! Many thanks for your timely advice! :)

I'm a 52 year old single mom who had to do/fix everything even when I was married and appreciate your video! The casing wasn't broken on my daughter's washer. It was the cheap plastic lever itself that had broken but your video gave me the info of where to start looking. Glued it back on and sealed it. At the very least, I was able to drain the water out of the tub and know it isn't the pump going out. Thanks so much!

Worked like a charm but after two years one of the tails of the zip ties got in the way, as I used two.
I clipped the tails the zip ties put the part back in place, screwed the screws back in, plugged her in and she works again like new! Thank you so much for this awesome video, again!

THANKS SO MUCH! As a retired senior Lady, I found this very easy and it worked! Icouldn't afford a service call, so tried RUclips. Awesome. I'm much less afraid to handle my own service calls with advice from experts like you. Again, thanks!

Thanks a million, you really made the family proud of Dad. It was gonna be 2 or 3 day before a repairman could come out.

I can’t believe this worked. You deserve a Nobel for this.
I had to remove a little metal switch guard thingy, but the whole operation took less than five minutes. Hopefully it’s good for another fourteen years.

Thank you so much! We followed your method and fixed it. My mom is super happy! And I still can't believe I / we did it. (We - females - are not handy.) Below is a recounting of my experience for others who may want to attempt this. Hope it would help you.
Entire process: 30 minutes, 3 zip ties.
We have the same kind of washing machine model: turn knob, pull to start, top loading. But our lid opens the other way (so the dial / knob still visible when lid is open). And our catch is in a different location.
After we unscrewed it, at first, I couldn't pull the part out at all, felt tight and held back by some cords. After struggling for a bit, I contorted my hand and reached in more. I got the whole thing out, visible and can see what we were working with. The part we pulled out looked like the videos but with an extra metal plate. Because with that extra metal plate, we cannot loop through the zip tie as show in 4:43. We have to do the ties off to the sides... so, one each on each sides, almost like a V with intersection corners... and then we did a 3rd zip tie perpendicular to the one that was shown in the videos. Just remember, the goal is to keep that part tight.
Learn from my experience: when you finished tying, take a moment to observe how the part sits, especially the angle of the pedal (visible from the catch / hole) and the vertical face of where the screws go in. I struggled with the angle for the screws at the first go. So I had to pull it out and observe again. Successful in 2nd try. Do not try to force the screw into the plastic part. Now, just tighten the screws and run a test. Hope you would hear the sweet sound of washing machine spinning also! Good luck!

      Wow,
Very well done😊😊😊 To help other RUclipsrs, you can also break that metal piece off to get it out of the way👍

OMG! Awesome instructional video. The issue of the washer not draining or spinning was exactly what happened to my whirlpool washer. The washer agitated but after that, it did not drain or spin. The washer remained full of water and I was hoping that I didn't have to drain it and this video was the solution to my problem. The quick and easy fix solution using the zip tie to secure the lid switch without having to purchase a new one (at least right now) was brilliant! Thanks for the video!!!

Thank you SO much for this video! I couldn't afford a service repair call or new machine. I happened to have ONE zip tie in the house and knew exactly where it was. I am so grateful that you posted this video and I was able to fix it myself!

This is absolutely awesome. I felt the switch and it didn't feel right. As you said, it felt as if it was ALL moving, just not the paddle. Took it out (a minute) and, sure enough, the entire body was loose.
I used the zip tie, screwed it back in and VOILA my twenty five year old washer is back rocking and rolling!
    Great stuff, thanks.

Thank you Scott, your video was so helpful, my wife called me at work worried about the washing machine not working. Our worst scenario was to purchase a new one, but thanks to you we did not have to.
