I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't want to get rid of their older washer, lol, mine is about 25+ years and due to an unbalanced load it's now not spinning, it does fill and drain so I'm determined determined to find a solution, fun fact, my husband immediately said, go buy a new one, I'm the one who said no, lol! I've had the modern fancy shmancy versions and nope, I'm sticking to the older one, I removed this one from my old home and brought it to my new house years ago.

UPDATE: It was too heavy for me to pull it away from the wall, so I started taking the clothes out. A long sleeve from a shirt had gotten wrapped around the middle thing so tightly that I could barely get it out. So I got all the clothes out and turned it on spin and it worked! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's fixed. Thank you for the video.
I'm 62 and I have no faith in myself but I'm going to try but I think I'll work on the refrigerator first way easier, my problem is I've got my 88 year old father watching me and if I mess it up I hear from him I wish you would of left it alone.

Those old 2 belted Maytags are worth repairing for shure 👍Even more complex problems can be repaired as well by searching the internet. Mine is at least 40 years old.

Hello! We have the same maytag washer. Mine decided to stop spinning. I replaced the belt it still wont spin but drains water. It also make a noise like 2 metal clanking. Any advice? I appreciate it. Thank u

Yeah I did what you said but my maytag washer just slips for rinsing and when I manually pull on the motor to tense up the belt the motor stalls. Could it be that it's seized or the motor has lost its power?

I have the same one. Now I changed the belt but the transmission Pulley still doesn’t turn. Motor and pump pulley moves fine.

Be sure to unplug your machine before you begin. Also, you may find a video online that is specific to the model you have that may give you more detailed instructions.
How do u know when it's going bad...Sometimes lately it will spin and sometimes it's will spins all the water out...I also have been noticing that the timer changes on how long...

Anyone know where model number is located on a upright whirlpool approx 10 to 12 years old...? I CAN STILL wash small loads with no issues,but larger loads it does not spin fast enough to dry chothes well..i am thinking my machine does not have belts so maybe clutch and or coupler is slipping...thanks for your help...
Hello Kind Sir, My 2005’ manual Maytag top loader/ not the one with led lights, does that same thing But while watching it go into the spin cycle for the last year I have noticed that when it starts to spin it Right before it gets to full speed you can hear the brakes engage and it slows it down and at that time it starts to agitate while it’s trying to get up to speed but the brakes are still keeping it slow spin, and I have noticed that if I stick my hard in there against the drum and let the clothes catch my fingers and knock it off balance where it is wobbly then and only then it will start to go real fast and then right before it hits Top Speed I hear the brakes engage and slow it back down again and then it starts agitating again you know to try to even out the clothes it does and then it starts to go fast again about up to 1/2 speed then the brakes engage and slow it down again and if I get the clothes so off balance that I have to keep my hard on the timer knob to stop it encase it wobbles outta control and then finally after the whole cycle THATS WHEN THE BRAKES WONT Work they won’t engage to slow it down and stop it and I have noticed also that the knuckles are pretty worn out in the agitator also but it is still working about 80% right I sure hope you know exactly what’s going on and can let me know what I need to fix and replace because it is the kind of washer that you can easily keep repaired when something goes bad if you can find out what the issues are last year when this started I made a video and posted it on my RUclips channel if Will please go to my page and click on my uploads it is the last video I uploaded so you will easily find it, Please.
And keep in mind that was about a month after I started to notice that the clothes were coming out heavy like in your video but I have done 2-3 loads a day for a year now and it is a lot worse now But when I run the extended spin cycle again and I stand over it to try to keep the clothes outta Balance it will finally get them spun out but it is taking up so much of my time I am getting behind on all the other things I need to do on a daily basis, So I Sure hope that you will know what is wrong so I can fix it and again it doesn’t have the electronics and the led-lights. I did replace the belt the old one was original, However the Washer Still Working the Same and No one can tell me for sure what I need to replace to fix-it.

My belt doesn't pass the 1/4 inch squeeze test but it also isn't so tight the motor can't move at all like the one you had, still some give. Do you think this belt can still be used?
Not exactly sure what you are asking... but if your machine is operating properly you should be okay

The cause of that could be a number of things. Could be your motor… Could be a capacitor that starts the motor… Could be your timer… Etc. sorry I can’t be more specific. Wishing you the best and God‘s blessing and wisdom as you work on it

I’m hoping this is the issue with my machine. I just noticed last night that it was making a humming noise and not spinning with a faint burning smell. But can’t get the shell of the machine off so I’ve been struggling lol.
Ohboy, im afraid of what ill find in there lmao. My furnace quit working last winter and when i took the door off the blower compartment, there was a weasle skeleton. My a/c stank the previous summer but I didnt find anything in my A/c unit, so just suffered through it.
My washer is maybe 10 steps from my furnace, in a dirt floor style basement. Wish me luck lol
How much movement should there be in the motor? I bought new belts but had trouble finding the exact part number (2111250 and 2111240). I could only find 211125 and 211124. They seem to work but there isn't much movement in the motor but there is slightly some.

If the belt looks okay I wouldn't change it...and if your problem was the belt glazing it would slip and probably not stop your washer from spinning completely.
A glazed belt is one that has been slipping and gets a shiny glaze on it that causes it to lose its grip...like a squeaking power steering belt on a car

If not the lid switch you may want to continue your search online otherwise you could call a local appliance repair company... but often times their visit costs more than your washer may be worth.
Bet you got that belt set from Ebay - there are lots of resellers that buy the lowest cost components from China and re-package them. Many are counterfeit. You state the vendor KNEW there was an issue with the belts, but sold them to you anyway!
Actually did get the belts you mentioned from Ebay. The pump belt was correct. The seller didn't intentionally sell me the wrong belt... when I called back to ask about it they said they had become aware that there was a problem and were not selling that belt set anymore until the problem was corrected. They told me to keep the belts and refunded my money.
would this cause the washing machine to not advance past the wash cycle? clothes are soaking wet and tub is drained, lids unlocks as if its done.
In this case, with a belt driven motor and pump, the washing machine would or could advance through all the cycles, especially if you have a slipping belt found on older machines like this one.

I think you should specify in your title that you have a Maytag washing machine. My Roper by Whirlpool has no silly belts and is direct drive. It does have a clutch and a coupler that both can be a cause for not spinning strongly. My machine is older than you !

I have one like this and I replaced the belts. Now, when it goes to spin, it spins about 3 times and then makes a clicking noise to click off. Ordered a new motor, put it on, still does the same thing - shuts of motor when it goes to spin.

Lots of different possibilities and lots of videos to help you resolve your washer problem. May be something real simple ie lid switch or could be more involved.

where di you buy the right belts?
Actually the pump belt was the correct one so I only had to order the drive belt the second time. I got it from ebay seller prestigeworld-wide. It is an OEM drive belt..
I changed the belt and it's still leaving my clothes wet. Should the agitator move so freely?
Maybe should have just adjusted the pump belt to be tighter without buying new belts....a thought
Maybe the older gentleman knows his craft and a glazed belt that's retightwned will build friction and melt or burn causing more damage or injury
in a pinch, the old belt might be roughed with steel bristle brush. Also automotive belt dressing in spray can might get you by awhile.
