    I'm a single mom of two. You just safe my life by following your guidance here. The machine died on me few days ago while washing the kids' school uniform. I smell a little burnt smell.. Worrying I migth have to spend 600-700$ for a new one that it could take weeks to replace..
    So I look up lots of vid here.. until I found your clip which have exactly opening like mine to get into lid switch.
    I order the part online. Get it the next day and change the lid switch myself. less than 30 mins, my washer is back to live.
    Thank you very much for your sharing. Blessed be 🙏

    Excellent video... I just tested my older Worldpool washer and found that my lid switch sounded absolutely fine. So i was hoping that it would be obvious that is was bad, but it looked AND sounded fine. Since I had the back cover already oped, I decided to make a small alligator clip jumper to mimic a brand new switch. Since the plastic is old and brittle, it damn near destroyed itself , just trying to get the switch harness out of the washing machine. So I need to order a replacement anyway. I was shocked when I set the dial to spin and empty, and plugged it back in the wall. It actually started spinning. I'm about to order a replacement lid switch. Thanks for the great tip. It put me in the right direction..

    Thank you for this video. When I lift the lid I can hear the switch clicking loudly and figured that was not the problem. Then i read one of the comments that said one person wired around it even though he could hear the switch and that fixed it. Sooooo I just did the same and Viola! It works. Thank you so much!

    Hello Jeff thank you for the Video.
    I ve got a frigidaire washer. Like 25 years old. My timer went out. Took it out cleaned contacts and still nothing, was thinking about using toggle switches and just stand there till each cycle was finished. Because really machine is to old can't get replacement part. And don't have really any money to do anything. 1st whT do you think about the toggle switch, and do you have any ideas.. I'm sure this would or could be a head scratcher lol
    I know it is for me, I've been looking at the wiring diagram.
    Thanks again

      And save them! I'm still looking for the videos and pics the last time I had fix mine, only a couple years ago. This must be one of the few videos out of hundreds that show this exact machine, without the easy front cover that also surprises those with the top front lock that I always thought was the lid switch, as well because you can't see the one in the back at all until you take that top cover off.
      Thank you so much for helping me remember what I had to deal with last time when both washer and dryer broke down the same day. Oh, the heavy loaders I live with will get a no heavy loaded washer mandate from me, this time. Kidding
      Aside from that, does that one reset that some do to lift the lid 6 times after powering off for over a minute and power back up, lift 6 times a couple inches in less than 15 seconds, within 30 second of plugging the power back in work on this machine, as well?
      My machine wouldn't spin or agitate, instead go through its start up while switch is set to spin and on it's last action spin light comes on but it instead starts to fill with water, no matter what I try, to get its brain to stop doing it.
      Thanks again for your videos if you happen to read this, it really helps me a lot in these and your found sales videos on tools.

    Hey Jeff, my washer was doing its job for about 5 minutes but then I had to pause it to add more clothes. It was pause for 4 minutes or so with the lid up. I put the lid down and now it won’t continue with the cycle. How to I get it to start going again?
    Do I follow these steps?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 года назад +2

      Maybe it got into a messed up state, try to unplug it and plug back in. IT could also be a coincidence that maybe the door switch broke when you opened it.

    This must be 20 years newer than my 35 year old GE that I by-passed the lid switch on abs later added heavier pull springs to motor because it’s belt drive. Don’t for get to live the sliders for smooth tight action. Mine is going into it’s 45 year of top load action. Had a capacitor fail to spin dry load as the motor is reversed. Capacitor is not attached to motor but my Fluke 87 type V has capacitance scale a cane now where close to rating on case. Well, $8.10 cent later, working like a champ. I did remove the centrifugal switch and cleaned the contacts with 400 grit sandpaper. This switch changes from high toque, low speed to high speed rates torque. Thanks for the video!

      Mine is direct drive inglis washer. Pretty old , changed pump, checked manually that it spins but when I connect all together, it won't spin after filling tub with water. Inglis IE48000 model.

    • @deankay4434
      @deankay4434 Месяц назад

      @@suredross1 I don’t know for sure, but many have a motor belt drive the drum. It is tensioned by a spring system, so full and won’t spin, remove belt to make sure motor turns. Then check tube to see if tube turns. If all well, the motor may be weak due to bad capacitor. On washing machines, the start capacitor is not bolted to the motor. So with good light, follow wires to find a the “Twinky” cupcake sized capacitor. My Digital Multi Meter a “Fluke 87 type 5, has a capacitor meter. The specs are on the side of the can. If 540 mF and test at 210 mF, replace it. It list voltage and purchase one that is slightly close or higher, say 580 mF but 600 volts. Higher volts are fine but capacitance should be close.
      A capacitor works on A/C voltage but time to charge, then discharge. This extra time delays the magnetic field induced into the armature. This is more torque with less HP! Once up to speed, a centrifugal switch changes to full regular A/C induction for full power & speed. My best guess is you need a new capacitor. This is common on A/C units on outside condenser’s or fan. Inside fan that circulates air the house may not use on depending on year built. Best of luck!

    Is it possible that the timer is bad? I have a belt drive Hotpoint top loader washer HSWP1000M4WW. The reason I ask is because my timer sometimes would not turn off with the timer knob. I taped the safety lid switch together so I could open it to see how well it was agitating. Then one day it just stopped washing or spinning even when I turned the timer manually. My timer is advancing through all the cycles, though. Any thoughts?

    Uh you forgot a mjor part that breaks. there is a plastic gear in the tub that connects the agitator . That if strips out, it won't spin or agitate. It's easy figure out if broken, if the agitator spins in both directions it is stripped , it is only meant to spin in one direction.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 года назад +1

      Like I mentioned in the video, when you seethe couplings, they just pull straight off the motor spindle. It requires a little bit of streetlight, as they are wedged onto the spindle tight.

    • @dannylinc6247
      @dannylinc6247 3 года назад +1

      I did an older machine like this for the coupler .
      We changed the pump out water pump while we were there, that far in.
      We also re-made the drum spring attach connections to give it a new area on them to wear. I learned alot.
      The supply house wouldn't get us new springs.
      I had to use a trick from the GM truck garage to open a new spring loop for attaching them to their links. Supply house said we needed a new machine.
      Nope.
      The owner replaced them (washer and dryer) and gave the good old ones to the delivery man.
      Isn't that just great.

    This is WHY DeWalt needs to make an adapter plate for TSTAK to Tough System. Look how the ToughCase+ boxes just sit there in top of the TS boxes all loose and things. Instead of having to lift two cases, you could have just lifted one with everything snapped-in, clicked-in, and secured. They need to think literally outside the boxes.

      I don't know on this one but I would say that is probably not your problem because if the door switch was bad it would not spin at all. That is a safety mechanism to prevent anything from moving when the door is open. So I would have to start hunting down something else may be on the controller board.

We just bought this week an LG OLED 55CX TV, and Costco already had their 1 extra year plus Costco Concierge service, then during the sale this week they threw in the Square Trade 3 extra years, a $99 value free, so now we have a 5 year warranty.

    Do *not* detach the clip(s) at 2:10. The hooks at the base of control console detach from the machine top by pulling the console slightly foward. Then the entire console rotates upward and back (as shown) when the two screws are removed. The clips anchor the hinge pieces to the back panel that allow the console to rotate upwards and should not be "pushed in."

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 года назад +2

      Yes, that's a lot safer on the top loader than the front loader, but still would be nervous some idiot sticks their hand in during agitation, or a kid sticks their head in and gets strangled.

      @@jeffostroff : I think they're saying as a test. Sometimes the failure isn't always as obvious as a burned contact (smell might have hinted at that as well). Some of the newer is a sealed switch activated by a magnet.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 года назад

      First thing I would do is pull the washing machine away from the wall and test the drainage into the wall and make sure your pipes are not clogged I doubt that would be the case but this is a very unique failure that you have so anything could happen. If that's not the case then make sure the hose coming out of the washing machine going into the wall is not clogged. And if that is not the case then you probably have a problem with the solenoid inside the washing machine that tells it to pump the water out

    Good video but you should have checked the agitator dogs (small plastic teardrop shaped pieces) in the top of the agitator before you took the whole machine apart.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 года назад +2

      Did not need to check the dogs, we knew the motor was not running when it should have been, that is an electrical issue typically. If there was a problem with the dogs, at least you would hear the motor running.

    Inside, where the hot water, and hot air warm the room?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 года назад +1

      This is in the garage. Also hot water heaters don't warm the area around them, they are too well insulated. That's why they are room temperature when you touch the tank.

    • @ryanmacewen511
      @ryanmacewen511 4 года назад +1

      @@jeffostroff OK, lets point the FLIR at the tank, and then at the wall. Point it at the hot water pipes, and then the wall. Point it at the dryer, and it's vents, and then at the wall. I'm sure you will see that they do give off heat. Saving a few bucks on E, doesn't make for a bad builder, or bad choice.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 года назад

      @@ryanmacewen511 Well you don't live in Florida, so you don't know. I have 2 friends with drastically bad problems now because the idiot builder put their Ac units in the garage rather inside in a conditioned space of a closet like normal respected builders do. Now they have AC units that are sweating profusely in the high heat and humidity of the garage, and at one friend's house, because of the way they built the AC area, it all that excessive sweating leaked water through the wall into the house into their dining room and destroyed the wood floor. Twice.

    • @ryanmacewen511
      @ryanmacewen511 4 года назад

      jeffostroff I think the physics are the same everywhere. I wouldn’t put a central AC unit inside a garage. I thought you were referring to washing machines in a garage being a bad idea. Humid air from these machines is also another good reason to place them outside conditioned space. Depends on the scope and budget. On the low side it’s a good idea.
