Piloting a boat at night is dangerous enough. Piloting at night while under the influence is unconscionable.

By a group of inexperienced college age people
Yeah and why make the decision w get on the boat ? No way
@@angelarich8455 yes, we need to take responsibility for our own actions, she chose to get in the boat she knew they were all drinking.
As a kid we were all taught to NEVER get into ANY vehicle when someone has been drinking.
Well parents are too busy being cool collected and non bothered to teach their kids anything anymore.
Drinking that much at least
And you should know, kids are dumb and wreckers. You were the same way, although I'm certain you'll still deny it...
@@edwardfello6313 Who?
@@skeetermcswagger0U812 I think he was replying to the OP, Jon
This kid was raised by a family that taught him he was above the law. This crash, and him not being breathalyzed, are just symptoms of that. It’s no wonder people want them all dead.
But, didn't his dad murder him or do I have that wrong?
*Amen.*
@@2bcYT I think it’s hard to say right now. I’ve got all kinds of theories. First and foremost, we owe it to Stephen Smith and his mom to find out exactly how and who brutally murdered him in 2015. That might open some doors as to who could’ve murdered Maggie and Paul. It sounds like Stephen’s death was a hate crime because he was gay. I read somewhere that a Murdaugh son might’ve been involved in his death. I also read speculation that Stephen and Buster Murdaugh (Paul’s brother) might’ve had a relationship. That’s hearsay. So in my crazy brain, I’m thinking of all kinds of possibilities such as what if Buster had a gay relationship with Stephen and Paul found out which drove Paul and some of his buddies to murder Stephen at Paul’s direction because the relationship was an embarrassment to he and his family (Murdaugh’s). And then I thought, what if Buster actually killed Paul and his mom to seek revenge on Paul who got away with killing his boyfriend, Stephen. This is 100% just a theory. I don’t even know if Buster was dating Stephen or if Buster is gay. I could also see Alex killing Paul and his wife because he was worried that his wife would leave him and take half his money once she found out he was embezzling from his law-firm partners. And maybe Alex killed Paul out of anger for embarrassing the family by committing the negligent homicide of Mallory Beach. Maybe Alex killed his wife and son and then tried to make it look like he was a target by getting someone to take a superficial shot to his head. I have a hard time believing he happened to be changing a tire when someone drove by to murder him. That’s a little too coincidental in my opinion. And there’s always the possibility that maybe one of Mallory’s family members decided to seek revenge on Paul for killing Mallory and killed Maggie because she was there. Maybe Stephen Smith’s family sought revenge for his murder. And then there’s the “accidental” death of Gloria Satterfield, the housekeeper who allegedly died from a fall on Murdaugh property. I don’t buy that AT ALL. I think she was killed too. Maybe her family sought revenge. There is so much going on surrounding the Murdaugh family, it’s like a soap opera. They all look squirrelly to me except Maggie. Paul and Alex definitely suffered from “Affluenza.” I don’t know enough about Buster yet.
Sorry, that’s really long.
@@AbbyS.Pumpkins Your thoughts are the same many of us have. I do believe we may have a serial killer in this complicated web.
While I don't know Mallory's family or Stephen's family, it requires a cold heart to murder all of these people. I think Mallory's mom is seeking to break the Murdaugh's financially.
For the time being, my money's on one person being responsible for Stephen, Maggie and Paul's death. I don't know who pushed the housekeeper to her death but it's all connected, right?
If Mallory had been my child, I'd want the Death Penalty for her killer and the family's money yet that still would not mend a broken heart.
Thank you, kindly, for sharing your suppositions.

So everyone was drinking and nobody had a care about being in a boat at night? This is called an accident but I call it an accident waiting to happen
Not just drinking, but underaged drinking as well. It was drunk teen driving, not a drunk adult
Be safe people, if you know a friend has had a few drinks……. Don’t even risk it going with them.
Good video. Very informative. I had been having a difficult time visualizing this, since I am not a boat person. Well done
Yep, nothing says a bad day on the water like drinking till 1 am and driving. Nothing good happens at that time.
Surprised the Murdaughs didn’t sue the bridge installers.
Sue the river flow you mean?
As a parent of young adults my heart breaks for all BUT they are responsible for putting themselves in that boat. No one had a gun to anyone’s head making them. Paul’s thinking he was above the law had nothing to do with the other’s actions. It’s like only Paul did wrong that night. They all chose to drink and/or get in a boat with a highly intoxicated driver. Paul should have been held accountable for Mallory’s death but he’s not the only person to blame.
So so true We try to teach our kids self protection
💯 agree with this!
You need to get your facts together. There’s literally an interview with one of girls from the boat explaining how ALL OF THEM BEGGED AND BEGGED constantly for him to stop recklessly driving and begged him over and over to let someone else drive and he wouldn’t let anyone else take over.
They were all just trying to have a good time. He had the chance to save her by listening to his friends prior to the incident
Exactly
Very sad. Thank you for the video.

@Kyle Rhein They weren't driving the boat. Paul Murdaugh was driving at unsafe rates. Sorry, he's dead now, too. Couldn't have him testifying for those Murder 1 charges he was facing.
Tragic, thanks for covering this story.
It is very unfortunate that a young life was lost in this crash. I watched the Netflix doc. What I don't understand is everyone of these kid's knew how intoxicated Paul was. They had other options. Why did they still get on the boat? None of them were forced. Because they all knew Paul was to drunk to operate the boat and still made a sober decision to get on the boat, were there any charges brought against them as well?
EXACTLY. This is what I have been saying.
Because they were young. Teen brains aren't fully developed or mature. They don't think about their mortality, so they take more risks. They are more accepting of consequences that are unknown. They haven't had "bad experiences" that would cause them to be fearful of the risk. I KNOW I took many risk when I was a teen that I think back on now and say; "I can't believe I did that"! I only WISH she/they would have stayed behind and called their parents to come pick them up. I hope and pray that my son will always know that he can call me anytime, no matter what he's been doing, BEFORE he ever puts himself in a situation that could be risky, dangerous or deadly. This is a parents worse nightmare and I pray for mine and everyone's children! God Bless the Beach family. 🙏
@@Lori-nv4fu Umm.. No. They all knew that Paul was too drunk. They even had people offer them a ride. They knew better and still chose to ride with him. They're all responsible for the loss of Mallory, including Mallory herself, point blank period. It is sad, but it was a choice they made.
@@mirandalynn19 That is very true, they all made a very bad decision for sure. They took a big risk and lost. I am answering the OP's question; "Why did they get in the boat?". Most adults would NEVER have done that. So, I stand by my original answer.
@@Lori-nv4fu That's not true at all. Have you been living under a rock? Adults do that stuff EVERY DAY. You know how many accidents happen from drunk driving??
you’d think the people in the front of the boat would have been propelled forward and out of the boat versus those in the back sitting lower in the boat, but I guess it depends the orientation of the boat when it struck the pilings
I heard when they crashed, the nose went down and propelled Anthony and Mallory forward and out of the boat.
Also Mallory & Anthony were only sitting on the side of the boat so it really wouldn't have taken much at all, even a hard sharp turn could've caused em 2 fall backwards into the water
Safety is Job One. Sadly, Alcohol leads to bad decisions and I my deepest Condolences to the Families.
I still don’t know how you can blame 1 person None of them should have gotten in the boat Too drunk! They have free will
I am never on a boat without some type of flotation device strapped on me. I don’t care how silly it looks and yes I can swim but you never know in an accident if you’re going to be conscious😱 and I would never get on a boat car or plane with someone who’s drinking at the controls it’s always a hell no every time all the time!!!!! Being an adult into making hard choices even if they ain’t cool👍
It doesn't look silly, some states make it mandatory. I actually thought SC is included.
I would be curious of the blood alcohol level of 'everyone' in the boat, I am thinking about everyone was over the limit, it is the bartenders/servers at bar not legally liable 1stly?
good description thank you
Much like motorcycles I will never ride as a passenger again after being thrown off two boats by operators showing off that didn't know the waters they were boating in. Both were dead sober too and even at what sounds like low speeds compared to land vehicles is enough to kill you. I'm lucky I landed on mud and not the oyster bed nearby or the submerged piling I missed by inches the second time.
And your sad story has nothing to do with motorcycles.

I never take the boat out after drinking. We have a rule, one beer an hour if you wanna drink and boat. No hard liquor period
Who ever is operating shouldn't be drinking at all. Just the motion of a boat and 1 beer can easily make someone have problems they wouldn't have I'd completely sober.
@@MidgetPunter Another internet expert.
@@rickgeller6043 these people have obviously never drank and operated a boat, or been with someone drinking and operating a boat. the most dangerous aspect of the incident was high speeds at night, honestly.
One beer an hour? If you're drinking for the entirety of a day out around 4-6 hours, thats 4-6 beers. Alcohol builds in the system, it doesn't magically disappear after a certain amount of time. Would you get in a car with someone who's had 4-6 beers? That's reckless, stupid and dangerous for others on the road with you. Every drunk driver that's ever injured or killed someone doesn't think they've had that much to drink and they could handle driving. I've lost 3 family members and was nearly killed myself by drunk/intoxicated drivers. Be a man and do better, you might just save a life, maybe yours. Although rarely does the drunk driver die when they kill someone.

Rich, entitled, feeling above the law-- all of them, ALL. Not an ounce of humility had they ever experienced- all sixe of them before this happened. That's the lesson every child needs to learn first in this world- on how to be humble to live life by regarding others just as much as self. BUT, for the rich and entitled, I doubt that ever is in their foresight.
Needed less music. This could have been a written article instead of video.
Mixing Alcohol and driving (a boat or otherwise) is always wrong. Blame squarely on driver/owner of the boat.

No sympathy for paul being killed by his corrupt father.
And glad to hear Alex will be serving life in prison.
I just hope that poor girl went quick without any pain.
I hope so too. I believe the blunt force trauma to her head most likely knocked her out quickly. May she rest in peace and God have mercy upon all of them.
Sad situation that could have easily been avoided by using some common sense and a little caution.
Such a terrible situation. What a waste of a beautiful young soul..
You cannot see the water at night. You need someone with a hi beam flash light to help you. And you travel very very slow. I wonder if there was a fight for the control over the boat bc he was going to fast
I wonder if the fact the Mallory was sitting on the deck of the boat was a factor in her injuries. They say she had blunt force head trauma and her head could have been level with the edge of the boat's side. If she got slammed forward when the boat hit the piling, it's possible that she hit her head on the side of the boat first before she hit the water.
That's what I think. And since she was knocked out, she drowned.
I hope this helps other young people to understand the risks of driving any vehicle or boat while drinking. When we are young,.. we are fearless it seems,… RIP to girl who got killed and to Paul & his Mother.🙏💔
This situation is just like getting in vehicle with a drunk driver. I'll be like I am good. Think before act.
I hope they checked the bridge structure after that.
Forget the rest of the upcoming trials…. Alex may not make it through this one given his presentation in court with the crying and rocking.
The boat had to be at or over capacity, with six people onboard. This no doubt contributed to people being ejected, as the boat pinballed under the bridge.

30 mph at night !?! Wtf !! Pure stupidity . Even 20 mph is fast especially approaching a bridge. I drove sober on a well marked lake at night going 10 mph ( 6miles) it was intense and hard to see . There is alot of rock markers you better know to. Never did that again. Only stayed in our bay in the night . It would have to to be like glass for me to go 30mph in the day.

Mallory probably went under the boat as the boat spun out. What a jerk.
Who estimated the speed? I hardly think they were all scared at 30mph...I've rode in lots of boats and 30mph is actually slow..I think they were going faster...
30 mph in a boat is not slow lol
@@reformedgringle A kayak maybe.....
They usually don't measure the speed in MPH, it is knott's. There is a difference between 30 MPH and 30 KPH.
Dude... Think about what you're saying. They have the exact starting and arrival locations as well as the exact timestamps all along the way. It's simple math. For example, if Timmy travels 60 miles in 1 hour, how fast would he be going? Obviously the answer is going to be 60 mph right? Why didn't any of them say anything if he was driving erratic?
They were. Mallory was pleading with him to be careful, to the extent that he left the helm and approached her in a menacing manner. The boyfriend stood up and said “don’t even think about it” at which point, Murdaugh, went back to the helm and hit the gas. This is what caused the collision
