I remember when SUV's got popular. Many in the auto industry claimed it was a fad. Then came high performance SUV's and there were a lot of critics saying the physics wouldn't allow such a vehicle....guess the Germans proved them wrong.

This is one of my favorite car channels. If I can make one suggestion: it would be awesome if you could add the options and their prices on screen with a running total for visual clarity so we can better keep track of things. Great video as always!

Exactly!! My wife would never sign off on a 2021 BMW M5 or X5M Competition as our single vehicle. But I did a just get a BMW X7 M50i past her with ease last month..... She thinks its grrrrrreat!! Nice, and has room for the grandkids.

Just a heads up. if you use the seat controls on the seat, that menu will come up on the screen. All adjustments, including massage (on luxury pack) can be controlled from buttons on seat and you will never need to pull up the screen in the menu as you did to make adjustments. Also Prestige has seat memory so you would never really be fiddling with your seats anyway as they will already be adjusted to your liking.

Isn't this always the way? Watched dozens of RUclips reviews on this vehicle and the RS Q8 before visiting my local Audi dealership today. Yet somehow missed this one and it's excellent. Great job of assessing the various options, packages, etc. It matters a ton. If anyone is still out there looking at this vehicle I can add two things. First, the standard seats are objectively poor, worse than many budget vehicles. The upgraded seats with the message feature are mesmerizing, not a gimmick at all. Second, the SQ8 is now your only upgraded engine option at sticker price. The RS Q8 is now marked at a 20% premium ABOVE sticker here in Nevada. So it's 160k for RS Q8 and 111k for similar specs on Q8. So, essentially, this vehicle is pricing itself with some extremely stiff competition.

Similar specs on SQ8, not Q8. Sorry... long day. 😆

Another solid review. Well done. I am hoping you might be able to clarify or verify something for me about the quattro AWD in the 2021 Q8 and SQ8, a few questions: Is the quattro AWD system in the Q8 a "fixed" 60/40 rear/front split, or will the percentages sent to the front or rear axel vary depending on conditions and/or mode? If vary, can you expand upon that, what are the limits potentially to the front versus rear, and what if any changes to those percentages might occur if you change the mode setting? And is it the same in the SQ8 without the Sport Package that adds in the Active Roll Stabilization and Rear Sport Differential that you referenced in your review? And lastly, if you do add the Sport Package to the SQ8, will that affect the fixed versus varied percentages that can go to the front or rear axel?
You mentioned that the rear sport differential, I assume that's a rear electronic limited slip differential, you mentioned that would send more power to the right or left rear wheel as needed, which is great, and I suspect will aid not just in keeping things straight off the start on dry roads, but may well assist on rain soaked, slippery roads and on snow or ice covered slippery roads, not to mention rougher dirt roads if one happens to be on one. But I am wondering if adding that option allows the 60/40 bias of power to the rear/front axels, to be changed as needed, sending more power to the front or rear. One reviewer was not specific but seemed to equate the ability of the SQ8 to send up to 80% power to the rear axel with that rear sport differential, and another reviewer mentioned the SQ8 being able to send up to 70% to the front axel or 80% to the rear, but that reviewer didn't tie that ability to any specific thing. Which also makes me wonder if the Q8 has such variability. A couple of reviewers have referenced the 60/40 rear front bias of the Q8 as being fixed, but others suggested otherwise. It's confusing. Maybe you can verify and clarify some of this for me?
I am torn between the loaded Prestige versions of the 2021 Q8 or SQ8, and would prefer the better mpg of the Q8, but if that rear sports differential available on the SQ8 provides no downside but some real upside in various driving conditions, I think that will make my mind up for me. I do wish I could get the larger sidewall 285/45/21's instead of the 285/40/22's in either vehicle with the Black Optics package which looks so amazing, so stunning, but adding the black optics in either requires the thinner sidewall 285/40/22's. Oh well. Maybe the difference on rougher roads between a 45 and 40 sidewall is negligible and not worth agonizing over.
Thanks again, and please, if you or any posters here can help me with the above questions, primarily about the fixed vs variable question of the quattro AWD system between the Q8 and SQ8, and specifically if and how the Sport Package with that rear sport differential might affect that, it would be greatly appreciated. Either way, excellent review. Thank you.

Love your channel; it’s been very helpful as I flirt with various different makes-n-models in my hunt for a new ride for a 45-day cross-country drive. Would help me a lot if you could also add commentary on how quiet and pleasant (or not) a vehicle is from the standpoint of a long distance drive.

You don't see so many SQ8 on the road over here in Europe, compared to anything else on the road its huge. I like the interior more the then exterior, if you force me to really really buy a SUV....I might be an Audi right now.

I thought you meant covered in ash when you first told me, not actual gray paint lol. 🤦🏻‍♂️
I have to give Audi credit for going a different route with the Q8's design, I thought for sure they were gonna X6ify a Q7 & call it a day like Porsche & Mercedes.
I like the exterior, but I wish it had RWD proportions upfront. The long overhang and short dash-to-axle ratio hurts the Q8.
I can't still can't fathom why Audi went from a minimalist interior design with a single screen like the TT & R8 or pop-up screens like the previous gen cars (imo the A6 had one of thr best interiors out there) to something like this. Thanks a lot, Elon.
You're absolutely right about the wood, M. I'm getting tired of manufacturers puting Carbon Fiber inlays on everything.
Are they planning to send you more Audis soon? *cough*RS6*cough*
    as always, excellent work, M.

Would love to do more RETRO DRIVE REVIEWS but sadly, the views just didn't support them and old cars require FAR more expensive production insurance and if something goes wrong - like it did with the Pagoda, the bill is astronomical. That said, because we LOVE old cars we would be open to bringing them back on a regular basis but to make that viable we would need to offer them as well as some other unique content via a subscription basis. Is that something you guys would be open to?

You initially claim the RS Q8 to be a 500hp engine but at 591hp wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it a 600hp suv? Just based on proximity.
