    The night Tartaros led the attack on Golyat it was snowing. And when he said "Snow?" as you mentioned, he was probably recalling/thinking about Eleonor; now that's a peak story moment. I would've never connected the dots

      @@WarrenReport In the TKOL's ending D there is a scene where a boy says is snowing in Solea again. In ending C, where Eleonor is alive, she hears the same boy speaking about snow with her and then she remembers about Alphose and some snowing day. So, you must be right, snow has an important role in the plot, it is not just some coincidence.

    Excellent insight into Tartaros' character. Personally, I believe that Tartaros' "canon" mindset is the Neutral Path, as I see him more as an invaluable piece in the potential Second Ogre Battle (perhaps even the "hero" of said conflict). In regards to his trajectory, I believe he and the Dark Knights may have been responsible for the fall of the Caliginous Order (Person of Lordly Caliber).

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад +5

      He was certainly one of those responsible, as the plan to coup the senate ended up causing something close to civil war in Lodis. Godfrey Glendale, the commander of the Caliginous Order at the time, sided with the losing side of the coup and ended up dead, and because of this the legion was greatly demoted in prestige in the empire.

    I certainly wasn't expecting to see my own videos in this. It was a nice surprise.
    I find the Balxephon and Hobyrim conversation quite eye opening. They aren't just mad that rich buying politicians for their personal profit like Lans says. They are also afraid that Xenobia and Bolmocca, two great empires to buy their senate members to do with Lodis as they wish. When foreign superpowers buy up your law and rules, that country is not gonna last long. Which does really start to justify the coup they did and why so hastily and harsh it was. Who knows maybe if it werent for the coup there wouldn't be a lodis remaining but 2 puppet states ruled by each empire. Reminds of the whole Balmamusa event in a way. This game has some really great writing. I appreciate the video.

      @WarrenReport  Год назад +3

      Of course my friend, you are the biggest source of obscure lore on youtube! If I were myself recording these hidden scenes the video would take another 2 months to be ready ahahahah
      I find it difficult to draw conclusions about this period of the coup in Lodis because the only cutscene we have from this period is of Balxephon killing his father and accusing Hobyrim. If there's one thing that Ogre Battle teaches us, it's that nothing is as simple and easy as it seems.
      I personally find it hard to believe that Xenobia would be an imperialist kingdom given the history we have of King Tristan. On the other hand, knowing the personality of Balxephon and Tartaros, this story of Lodis being invaded seems to me an excuse to implement a dictatorship (as is done today with Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, etc. X United States). It is very easy to create an imaginary external enemy to justify your actions.
      Damn, we need more games and more scenes!

    I think Lans a an Anakin/Vader type of character, except more developed and clearly with his own agenda, and may yet redeem himself. He might partially be under the influence of shaher, too. I believe that, with the remake of ogre battle and a general comeback of tactical rpgs, we'll be getting a proper sequel in the future, with Lans at the center of a plot involving opening a chaos gate, only for Eleonor to come back through it possessed by shaher.
    I think we'll get him as an ally in a future game, if we play our cards right. A second ogre battle is probably coming, and he'll be crucial in it.

    This video was a good refresher and fascinating for a few reasons, thank you Warren
    a few scattered thoughts of mine:
    -If nobody in universe is questioning the horse, i will choose to do the same. i'm gonna assume its just a weird hybrid and/or ornamented for the high champion.
    -Shaher, in ending A at least, ascends back to Heaven with Eleanor. Knowing that, i don't see Shaher having any further evil plans or influences for Alphonse/Lanselot.
    Re-reading that ending now to make sure i wasn't crazy, i also half-wonder if perhaps Shaher and Eleanor are now 1 being...? Interesting food for thought.
    -I had thought a bit about Ambition before but i never considered your angle, it is very interesting.
    Of note is that Baldwin also wields the Ambition, as far as i remember. How it'd come into his posession, i know not, but interesting considering the path he went on to take as well.

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment friend! 🧙🏼‍♂️
      -I am! hehehe I also think it's just a visual detail to bring intimidation, but when I played KOL which is all about the angel's HORN, something made me question exactly that in LUCT
      -If I remember correctly, Eleanor gives her body to Shaher so that he can ascend to the heavens, so I believe that both are just one being now. But remember that Alphonse kept the Longicolnis spear, which was nothing more than the horn of Shaher... the weapon was not purified by Eleanor, so it could contain some evil influence from the angel that could contaminate him perhaps?
      -In Baldwin's case, it's not the same sword because LUCT and POLC happen simultaneously...so there are two possibilities: 1- it's just an easter egg 2- Baldwin named his sword after Tartaros or just thought the name was cool and replied. I believe more in the first.
      We need more games and scenes to complement this theory!!

    • @GabrielBaronSB
      @GabrielBaronSB Год назад

      @@WarrenReport -If you're talking about the Longicolnis, considering the weapon's origin with the mermaids, and the +5 res to both virtue AND bane it gives, i personally always saw it as neither grim nor valorous.
      Considering that + Shaher no longer being an evil being, i'm less inclined to buy any influence, personally.
      That is just me tho.
      -As for Baldwin, i wouldn't neccesarely dismiss the possibility of it being the same sword, but I do believe it may be perhaps simbolic that he wields it. It is hard to say.
      It fits the bill for him at the very least.

    Great video. I suppose one could toe all of those and say that he is conflicted.
    If we do ever get another game (that supposed leaked script DID say Lodis perspective), I think they'd try to parallel him to Hamilton - have him be an early influence on main character, then die during the regular game, but make it so you can go back and save/redeem him.
    Since you bring up Eleanor... I mean, she went to heaven with Shaher, so couldn't she be an Angel Knight now? Alright let's finish writing the plot
    - Eleanor is an Angel Knight
    - Reincarnated Rashidi uses his Angel control to pull her down/brainwash her
    - Rashidi uses Eleanor to blackmail Tartaros into becoming an Ogre (Ogre Blade!) or something equivalent
    - You fight Ogre Tartaros

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад +1

      Great idea for script! But if the Star Wars inspiration is any indication, I believe it would follow something like him doing a lot of evil and regretting it in the end, sacrificing himself for the greater good (perhaps the end of another Ogre Battle?).

    I haven't played the PSP version so everything im saying here will be as if that version doesn't exist.
    Sadly they took away many dialogues from the PS1 version, which as far as i know are the same as the snes version. Some are very funny, like the ones when you fight Agares. But the one that i don't understand why they took away is when Vice points out that Valeria and Xenobia can crush Lodis if they join forces (or maybe i skipped it by accident), which i think is the official reason why Lanselot was sent to make Valeria a puppet kingdom. Also i think that Cybil mentioned that they wanna secure artifacts like Longicolnis to prevent people to use them for their selfish ambitions , i think moslty to prevent anyone to open chaos gates and start another ogre battle. Because of that i think the pope intentions are meant for the greater good in the end.
    Another thing that i take form the dialogues of both versions is that Lanselot is that his main motivation was to rescue Eleanor and controling the isle was a secondary quest. My theory is that he wanted to put Cathua on the throne so he could have access to the hanging gardens with the Brynhildr sword. Since he already kicked Shaher ass when he was a kid, i don't think he sees Dorgalua as a big deal now that he not only is a seasoned warrior, he is a death templar, which IMO and for the way they present him in the PS1/SNES version, he is at least on par with the 4 devas or the 3 high knights that fought in the ogre battle.
    Sadly i doubt that they will continue this saga because the story its too convoluted, the genre isn't popular anymore and the N64 version basically killed the story of the franchise.

      I think it might just be an easter egg, many weapons and items are repeated across all games.
      In case it's not...maybe all death templar weapons in Lodis are called Ambition? It couldn't be the same as Tartaros because Ogre Battle 64 and Ogre Tactics happen at the same time...
      I do not believe that all ambitious and greedy characters in the games would have direct influence from the angel, this is already in the human essence. That's why Danika says that the Ogre Battle can happen again without ogres, only with humans.

    I think the Tartaros we see is a mix of the three paths. He is broken and divided in two parts: Lanselot, the bloodthirsty knight and conspirator, able to do anything for power to do want he wants, and the diplomatic and resourceful Alphonse, his true self, that still lingers inside him, unable to hold the loss of Eleanor.
    He is a servant of Lodis and the Pope, but he isn't a pawn. Tartaros have Sardian's trust to do as he wants, and follow his own path and methods, that flows from killing everybody to try to pacify Valeria through unification, rather than brute force. He wants to fulfil his master's orders in the best way possible to his interests, to his master's, and to Valeria's (or at least he believes would be the best for them).
    He would not become a ruler of Lodis himself, only in the worst scenario. Tartaros is not the leader, even on his own battalion. Balxephon do all the thinking, and Tartaros just do the dirty job. Tartaros needs a lord to serve, that is Alphonse's nature inside him. I think Balxephon will be the corrupted one that will murder Pope Sardian, and that Tartaros will either break totally, be Balxephon's pawn for real, or look for revenge for losing another person he wanted to follow.
    I don't believe Shaher have anything to do with all this. Lanselot is someone that believes fear is the only way to truly control people, so he would try to look the most fearsome of the knights. He wants to bring fear to the hearts of his soldiers, and what better way to do that if not by having a "devil horse".
    About the time traveling part, I think that add to Tartaros as a threat. He is not someone to be played with, he is a fearsome opponent indeed. This scene show us a very subtle lesson: do not mess with Lanselot Tartaros. Don't take him lightly, or this will be your doom.
    I think he can be a final boss, but not ruler of anything. Rather, I would say he would follow the same path of self-destrution Dorgalua did: Becoming either a god or a demon (or both) to bring Eleanor back, and then she will be the last piece of madness in his arch of villainy. She may not return, and then he loses his mind, or she may return, just to show how mad he is, to show how far he went off the rails just to fulfil his desires. The shame and the guilty will ate him up to the core, but I can't say what could happen next.

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад

      Great analysis my friend, but in my opinion Balxephon could not be the great handler of everything after all as he is subordinate to Tartaros. It was Tartaros who manipulated him, corrupting him against his own family (his father and Hobyrim), and most likely imposing his strength on the knight. Balxephon is the "leader" because, in my opinion, Tartaros doesn't like to take care of the bureaucratic part, demanding orders from other DKs, receiving diplomats, etc. word, when there is some more serious conflict. In the end Tartaros is right, in the case of Lodis and the DKs, the strongest is who controls, even if indirectly.

      @@WarrenReport I agree with you, but I still don't think he would murder Pope Sardian or try to rule anything. I believe the fall of Sardian will only escalate the internal conflict inside Tartaros. This will turn him mad and obsessive with bringing Eleanor back.
      I believe that for Tartaros, the Pope is (directly or indirectly) his last string of sanity and hope. If Sardian dies, Alphonse dies too, leaving only Lanselot to govern his mind, and this will be reflected by his pure madness.
      Maybe we will defeat the Pope in a battle or something like that, and Tartaros will try to avenge him and kill us at all costs.
      In LUCT, we can see how Tartaros can remain calm even at the worst of situations. When he is betrayed, he remains silent, while Barxelphon and Volaq are furious, questioning the reason behind such treason. In the battle against him, he speaks in a neutral tone, he doesn't scream or panic, or something like that. He is always observing the situation and scheming his machinations. I think that is some kind of foreshadowing for when we see his mad side. Then we will see who Tartaros really is and the power that made him able to use the skills and the equipment of Shaher at it full potential.

    The only thing I really disagree with is the notion that Balxephon is the real commander and Tartare is just respected and feared; when Rhime gets taken, Balxephon chews out Barbas saying that acting without leave of the high champion (Lanselot) is forbidden.

    I think his position mixed of 3 but neutral is strongest. He definitely loyal but not blindly loyal and put a lot of his personal twisted into how to accomplish order he received. Lodis definitely have plan on hoarding magical and holy relices for sure but he prefer to just accomplish cover objective instead of direct one to save face person who order it as well as for greater good. He might have some plan about meet Eleanor again that why he kept Brunhildr near him instead of deliver back to Lodis once he consider not use it in Valeria. We also see some degree of corruption in him too but we could also see similar thing in lawful Denam as well. But I think he is a case of he who fight monsters and becomes monster he fought. I think Lanslot Tartaros has a lot similarity to Vladimir Lenin and Soviet revolution that become more and more cynical after long fight against Tsar regime and its secret police that no longer have any trust in mass anymore.

    Now that I have time to give a more articulate response, this is my opinion on the theories of what Tartaros was doing. TL;dr at the bottom
    I think you have the right of it mostly. A light mix of Lawful and Neutral is what I think. I won't touch on what that means (they have to watch your video to get that info c; ), but I believe he's deeply conflicted, as years of intense training (you don't become the highest ranking commander in an empire without years and years of experience) and tragedies (losing someone you want to spend the rest of your life early in your years leaves you in a very dark place for a very long time; I know from experience) leaves him at odds with what Sardian wants him to do to accomplish his tasks.
    His severe hatred of higher and lower powers such as angels and demons leaves him at odds with using and acquiring holy relics, and you can see in his dialogue that people that rely on others, like commoners, are scum, so why wouldn't that logic extend to higher powers? Especially with Shaher being what he was.
    This next part is a bit convoluted to me, as he seems to say 2 separate things. He does despicable things to change Lodis, but it seems like he wants everyone in Lodis to be forced to their station in life like he did ("...The quickest way to the throne is a knife to the king's ribs."). He states that sitting around and waiting for things to get better won't make them better, and he wants to ironically keep them subjugated, saying if they want to just pursue what keeps them happy, they can do so under their rule. But it kinda contradicts his "The commoners are rotten, and corruption needs to be rooted out". Maybe he was just blowing smoke. Maybe he's conflicted with the loss that he went through? I highly doubt there's counseling for medieval empires (If there was, please let me know, that'd be cool info to have!), so the grief he suffered has haunted him and caused him to be conflicted with negativity.
    On one hand, I want to say he wants to make peasant life hell so they're forced to get up and strive for greatness. But he also says things about doing what's best for Lodis. Your opinion on this matter would be highly appreciated, Warren.
    But the TL;DR is, Lanselot Tartaros wants what's best for Lodis, but he's so torn by his grief and hatred that he can't determine exactly what that IS, except to keep people from relying on divine power as much as possible.

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад +1

      What makes a better analysis difficult is the lack of information from Lodis itself. We don't even have a picture of what Sardian looks like. I gathered as much canonical information as possible for the video, and I still couldn't get a definitive answer.
      In my personal opinion, the greatest warriors of Lodis suffer exactly from this trilemma: what is best for Lodis, what is best for humanity, and what is best for your personal greed.
      This is clear on KOL: Alphonse does what's best for humanity, Bernard wanted the spear to do what's best for Lodis (him taking control of the empire) and Rictor wanted what was best for him (dominating the world in one theocracy).
      In LUCT we supposedly have Tartaros doing what's best for humanity (pacifying the island and not opening the Chaos Gate), Martym, Barbas and Andoras doing what's best for them (taking power from Dorgalua and dominating the world) and the other DK doing what's best for Lodis.
      In OB64 we have the same trilemma...with the knights of Lodis, some concerned with the empire, others with their personal ambitions (Richard and Baldwin).
      I've done my best to come up with several possibilities, and your remarks make a lot of sense... just watch out for Tartaros as he is CLEARLY MANIPULATORY, so you can't tell when he's expressing his own opinion and when he's lying for personal gain. Someone disturbed can also be hypocritical and not make sense, maybe that's why he seems like the joker talking? Hehehe
      BTW, in the middle ages it was common for kings to have advisors, often called royal counselors or cort advisors. They were responsible for advising the king on political, military, financial, and other important areas. They where often chosen from the nobilitybor members of the church, and often had specific skills such as legal or military knowledge. In some cases, the counselors also had the function of controlling the power of the king and ensuring that he governed according to the laws and traditions of the kingdom. Look out for Thomas Becket, William Marshal, Roger Bacon, Cardinal Richelieu and Guillaume de Nogaret

    I find it odd that he see common folk like a problem yet he was witness to the Duke of Felis treachery and his son double treachery against Lodis. He also saw the treachery of the Lord of Rananculus Naris Batraal.
    Maybe he's just using political force for his gain alone. Or maybe Lodis is the only thing that didn't leave him or betray him. Which would be why he's protective of it and try to put the Ilse under Lodis's Rule.

    • @WarrenReport
      @WarrenReport  Год назад

      They are indoctrinated from childhood to worship the Holy Lodis Empire. They start military training very early (12 years old).
      Perhaps he blames the existence of political, corrupt and selfish rulers precisely on the inability of ordinary people to take the reins of their own destiny and freedom? If you look at it that way, he would be correct.
