There is an ending to the game where Cybil dies and Alphonse and Eleanor end up together. Rictor also lives and weds Ivanna. Before this video, I had always thought that was the canon ending as it seemed the best and happiest.
True story. I played this game before Tactics Ogre: LUCT. So when I played LUCT (The PS1 version), every time I saw Lanselot Tartaro-err I mean Lans Tartare onscreen, I kept asking "...you seem so familiar". He'd appear multiple times and I would keep asking, "Where do I know you from?" Then comes the fight in Barnicia castle. Defeat Lans - and it highlighted him. I recognised the sword he had as Anbicion. I pointed at the screen and said "OH MY GOD. THAT'S HIM! THAT'S ALPHONSE!" Beat "Awww that means the 'a' ending is canon."
Fantastic presentation, this really needs more love! KoL was my first challenge run obsession growing up, and that's been a thing ever since. Absolute gem of a game.
So is this the correct timeline?? I thought Prince of Zenobia was first, then MotBQ, then TKoL because at the end of MotBQ, there's a rumor of the Lodis Empire invading from the North. Doesn't the A+ Ending of TKoL describe the beginning of LUCT (Tactics Ogre) Please correct me if I'm wrong....
@@the_beast_among_sheep Good day sir! Some of the games feature flashbacks to the past and then jump into the future in gameplay, KoL has the mermaid war that takes place 200 years earlier. Prince of Zenobia would be the first in the story about Zenobia's invasion and the prince's escape, but the gameplay takes place 15 years later, and after the end of the game another 10 years would pass more or less fitting in with MOTBQ. Knight of Lodis ends and LUCT's opening scene is approximately 17 years later. So you could say that KoL and PoZ happen almost together, the end of PoZ happens together with MOTBQ, and then POLC and LUCT simultaneously.
Lore videos on Ogre Battle saga would be awesome. Combined with tips, like how to recruit x character, what story background it has, relationships with other characters, inspiration, details(Canopus and Deneb are names of stars in real life).
I much enjoyed this synopsis of the plot. I didn't know this was the first game chronogically in terms of the lore, nor that Lancelot Tartare was a protagonist of another Tactics Ogre game. Thank you.
The Ogre Battle series has always been one my favourites ever since I played this specific game many years ago. I'm glad to have finally gotten around to play the OG SNES "March of the Black Queen" game and am playing "Let us Cling Together" at the moment, and I really want to learn the lore that this game build up. Knight of Lodis was my first, and may still be my favourite of the games, it's a small but really well made experience.
Glad to find another fan of the saga here! I'll be making story videos for each game in the series. LuCT is the most favorite, a phenomenal game (too bad it's usually overshadowed by Final Fantasy Tactics). Are you playing the PSX or PSP version of LuCT?

@@greenclonk1334 Although I prefer the PSX version for some things (perma death and the class system), I can't help but be amazed by the graphics and effects of the PSP version (in addition to the wheel of fortune system that makes it VERY easy to unlock everything in the post game). @@WarrenReport the PSP version really needed a difficulty setting: Normal(current psp) and Classic(snes style, one ko = death, permadeath). Lets see what the Reborn version will have, apparently brings back some things from the SFC/PS1 version.
@@hermitcard4494 Totally agree, permadeath was really a highlight and made the player much more cautious. Hope they fix the class system to normal again. One thing I miss is the low quality and more polygonal sprites, I don't really like the way they modernized that part in the psp version but whatever.

Knight of Lodis...my first Tactical RPG, and the first game to really get me to appreciate the story and nuances with grey morality...also my first game where I fight a god like being (unless you count mewtwo in pokemon as god like) For real, this game is in my top 5 favorite all time games, I love the gameplay, the story, and the music (especially track 04, the one that sounds like a scottish siege) Part of me wishes for a remake...but then I think, no, I think its perfect the way it is, maybe a port so more people can play it
@@WarrenReport I think its because it was a GBA exclusive so some people think its a spin off or something not as important. Plus without any rereleases or remakes it fell into obscurity. Shame too
@@WarrenReport sorry but the SFC/SNES version has 16bit charm and beauty that even today(upgraded) is better than some current games. I played KOL in a busy time, so I couldn't appreciate very well, but I still liked it. Looking forward to play it again.
After being introduced to the series from reborn i found myself here....My mind was blown with the Lancelot Tartaros name and realizing how interwoven the characters are through the series. Must have been bitter sweet as a longtime fan to see TO remastered instead of a new entry, after watching all the lore im dying to see what new adventure the xenobians still have to come.
@@WarrenReport Reborn has legit became my all time favorite game very rarely does a game transport me to the middle school days of nostalgia. I’m a hardcore SRPG fan but missed these games ( def going back to play the rest once I finish my 100% completion run) after bingeing your series I immediately started to search online why the series died but found no concrete answer. With all the SRPGS released last year from square I’m very optimistic for a continuation. all though reborn only sold 56kish units which makes me worry a little bit.
Final Fantasy Tactics totally overshadowed the Ogre saga in the industry, so I believe Reborn was an attempt to revive the series... I hope it actually happens!

I love how to chose to present KoL first and (hopefully) LUCT second even though the games were released the other way around (at least the originals). This is the exact order I played the game back in the day. I remember being so Heartbroken that I become the 'Bad Guy' in the next game 😃 Subbed, Liked and Looking forward to your next video. Knight of Lodis is my favorite Ogre Battle game, haven’t played the Nintendo 64 one. I liked the Muslim approach of god and shaher, in that he loved god so much that he couldn’t stand being second in god’s eyes. The interactions between you and his fallen angels with the political backdrop. I also loved the Eleanor character. She was someone who couldn’t fit well with others and felt out of place; perhaps she was too kind for those around her. This is why I think she left Alfonse, including that she was a strongly empathetic person and felt pity for shaker’s plight. She fulfilled both the whole inside and her drive for connection. I still remember her melancholic theme track.

somewhere around 20:00 u get to decide ending A by sticking with cybil or ending B with Hector, i think Hector is a lunatic so that's why he went with A in the video i guess
You're talking about Rictor, right? He really is a maniac with his plan to dominate everyone by force and impose his doctrine. The canonical path of the story is path A, as Rictor needs to die in order for his father to send the troops after Alfonse, in order for him to flee to the mainland with Cybil and deliver the spear to the pope, becoming Lans. If you do the A+ ending there's an extra cutscene, which is exactly the beginning of Tactics Ogre LuCT. The path B story is also interesting, but since the purpose of the video was the canon story of the Ogre Battle series I had to go the path A from this game.

@@WarrenReport kinda reminda me of Hoshigami too. One path Leimrey (MC's best friend) needs to die but you can fight the true final boss at the endgame. Another path, he's recruitable (he made up with MC after betraying instead of dying after their final fight) but cannot see the true final boss at the endgame.
In my view, since he had been cast out of heaven and his soul corrupted by darkness, he could not return there. Eleanor decides to give up her body and unite her soul with that of the fallen angel, so he could access heaven again
🧙🏼♂️ Certain events do, but the game itself does not. In KoL, Alphonse ends the game at age 15. At the end of MOTBQ, Alphonse would be approximately 36 years old.

My brother....amazing presentation on the map and presenting the story. 10/10. But. BUT. *BUT!* ....Bevera is not pronounced the same as beaver. I repeat - BEVERA IS NOT THE SAME AS BEAVER! Like, it has the same letters but, my brother in Lodis, if you pronounce beverage as "Beaver-age" you'd get punched in the face so god damn fast by someone nearby. Bevera is either "Behv-ruh", "Behv-era", or "Behv-ver-uh". Oh, and Lasanti comes off as an Italian or Roman last name (parallels to the catholic church and all that), so you'd say it "Luh-zon-tee" or "Luh-zahn-tee". The name shouldn't phonetically rhyme with "eye". I know these are nitpicks but I've been playing this game for about 20 years by this point and those pronunciations gave me psychic damage.

First time I finished the game, the only strong weapon I had was Longicolnis. By the 6th time, I had 3 snapdragon swords 😅

I liked the Muslim approach of god and shaher, in that he loved god so much that he couldn’t stand being second in god’s eyes. The interactions between you and his fallen angels with the political backdrop. I also loved the Eleanor character. She was someone who couldn’t fit well with others and felt out of place; perhaps she was too kind for those around her. This is why I think she left Alfonse, including that she was a strongly empathetic person and felt pity for shaker’s plight. She fulfilled both the whole inside and her drive for connection. I still remember her melancholic theme track.

You're talking about Rictor, right? He really is a maniac with his plan to dominate everyone by force and impose his doctrine.
The canonical path of the story is path A, as Rictor needs to die in order for his father to send the troops after Alfonse, in order for him to flee to the mainland with Cybil and deliver the spear to the pope, becoming Lans. If you do the A+ ending there's an extra cutscene, which is exactly the beginning of Tactics Ogre LuCT.
The path B story is also interesting, but since the purpose of the video was the canon story of the Ogre Battle series I had to go the path A from this game.

One path Leimrey (MC's best friend) needs to die but you can fight the true final boss at the endgame.
Another path, he's recruitable (he made up with MC after betraying instead of dying after their final fight) but cannot see the true final boss at the endgame.
In my only playthrough Rictor survived and Sybil was possessed, granting me Longicolnis.
So you went for route B, which is not the canonical of the story, but it's also interesting!

Any idea why Shaher was able to go to heaven? Did he just need Eleanor's pure body and soul to possess in order to get access?
In my view, since he had been cast out of heaven and his soul corrupted by darkness, he could not return there. Eleanor decides to give up her body and unite her soul with that of the fallen angel, so he could access heaven again
She took Shahar's place in the heaven.
TKoL does come after MotBQ, correct? I'm not entirely sure but I thought it did....

....Bevera is not pronounced the same as beaver. I repeat - BEVERA IS NOT THE SAME AS BEAVER! Like, it has the same letters but, my brother in Lodis, if you pronounce beverage as "Beaver-age" you'd get punched in the face so god damn fast by someone nearby. Bevera is either "Behv-ruh", "Behv-era", or "Behv-ver-uh".
Oh, and Lasanti comes off as an Italian or Roman last name (parallels to the catholic church and all that), so you'd say it "Luh-zon-tee" or "Luh-zahn-tee". The name shouldn't phonetically rhyme with "eye".
I know these are nitpicks but I've been playing this game for about 20 years by this point and those pronunciations gave me psychic damage.

@@WarrenReport the real time with turn-based. A large force but having them In Units allowed you to still know who everyone is. Absolute gem. I have still not found anything to scratch the same itch. Close games but nothing the same. I would give up total wars for more ogre like the 64.
