"Samsung Controlling the Android Experience?" Hasn't this always been the case? Especially with features being added to the Google's Android that were on Samsung's Experience/One UI for years 😂
Yep, every single Android premiere feels like Google featureset is catching up to the Samsung. People are begging Google for features my Samsung already has :)
lol I remember when the Galaxy Note 2 had split screen multitasking on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Google just add the split screen feature on Android 7 Nougat
Don't forget that Google partners Samsung on Android, that's why android feels a lot One UI-ish. Probably also why One UI gets features before it's implemented on Android.
@Abdul Rahman stock used to be much better.
Android only for samsung 👍just like ios only on aple.
Samsung has finally realized that competing with other Android OEMs is not enough to rival Apple and they are doing something about it now with serious changes like the Updates and ecosystem integration and overall software experience.
They have realized they need to be the apple of the Android ecosystem.

They are the largest android client so guess they have a big leverage on some OS features
Samsung probably collaborates with google to improve Androids feature but google has to wait X amount of years to role some features to other OEMs outside of Samsung.
Good move by Google. Its obvious that most people buy Samsung phones, they needed to have the defaults on that phone and the only reason to do that is to bend a little. All the other OEMs will get the features in the future (even the Pixel). Samsung has the pull to get the exclusives. They did the same thing with Wear OS. Samsung has a 1 year exclusive with the new Wear OS (Google did it so they would give up on Tizen), Samsung got the ability to reskin the messages app so they would get rid of Samsung own chat app. Google is slowly getting samsung to replace their most popular default's with Google's. The only way they could do that was to offer incentives. Good move all around.
True but will see how what the future holds other manufacturers are starting to catch up
Hmmm didn't think of it this way
That explains alot
@@rotimika You mean the China brands? Yeah no thanks. Edit: seriously what else is there besides Apple, Google, and Samsung for flagship phones that are non Chinese Brands.
@@orcbloodtech422 Whats wrong with chinese? Their flagships are much better value than overpriced samsung.
Funnily enough, your phone is probably assembled in china with components produced in chinese factories
Probably Google endorsed the Android dynamic features to Samsung heavily, so that they can add new experience on top of the existing default app.
The one ui for messages is the best. We have 6-7in screens & your most recent contacts are always at the top. So it makes 100% sense to start at half screen
This. One handed ergonomics are a huge factor that should be more considered in software design. Kudos to Samsung for not going for just pure information density.
I know its a 'to each their own thing' but I couldn't help but roll my eyes when they kept saying that the half screen thing was annoying
@@konstidog considering that Samsung has a an entire computer system of features this one handed use is genius

Nowadays there are features from Samsung that get to Android later. I remember the multi-page screenshots that was missing in pure Android but we had it for years on Samsung. I think another one is multitasking and window's screen splitting.
PS: having content in the lower part of the screen is so good amd useful for one hand use, I honestly wonder why it is not universal.
not nowadays, it has always been the case. stock android focuses on stability whereas custom skins focuses on features
@@gobi817 what even is stock android now?
It's been like that for years now 😂
@@WordsWellSalted stock android = AOSP. always
@@gobi817 oh I understand that. I was asking what phone you can buy that comes with stock android in 2022.
My understanding is that in time the Samsung messaging app will be withdrawn and only the Google one will be pre-installed (with a skin) : the same principle will be applied across all Android phones.
I've thought about this a lot in the past. Samsung pushes the envelope, and Google standardizes the advancements. It's not control, it's just a really beneficial partnership
Couldn't state it any better
Everything is alright, but Google's recent sloppy behaviour towards the Pixel must not lead to a discontinuation to their special Pixel experience or something. That will be seriously heartbreaking.
Its just new chip pains. I guarantee the issues with the Pixel is caused by the Tensor chip. There is a reason that all the software updates came last on the Pixels this year. Internally Google is struggling supporting the chip because outside of the ISP and the Tensor stuff, Samsung helped to build the chip. Samsung's support sucks compared to Qualcomm, thus Google's issues.
@@pungkuss idk, i just know i had super basic issues that ive never had before. and as big of a company as google is they shouldve had them fixed before launch
@@pungkuss hoping that google will sort things out till the next gen tensor stuff.
I don't have the issues that others had or have with their pixel 6. But I knew it would be a work in progress for Google to figure out all of the solutions. I agree that it is the tensor chip, but it is Google's first time to have a chip made to how they want it. Everytime they try something new it always throws a curve ball at them. I wished they kept the face unlock from the pixel 4xl. Amazingly fast and quite accurate. Didn't care to much for the soli radar but on long road trips I do miss being able to leave my hand to change songs. We'll see how this turns out for Google with the tensor. It would be better if they got the new Qualcomm snapdragon, but it's understandable for them to try.
@@pungkuss yeah I’m gonna say no. It’s not new chip pains bc it’s been a recurring issue with google for years. Battery issues. Software lag. Inadequate features backing up claims (when marques brought up the cool star feature I immediately thought of the Soli failure). Googles problem is they just don’t invest into their hardware and thus lack the integration capabilities of other companies like Samsung and apple who operate much better in house. The last time they were ahead of the pack was the pixel 2 xl and that was arguably bc the smartphone market was only in its middle years. Companies caught up and they just built a track record of failed and given up ventures like stadia or glass or soli etc
I debated whether to go with Pixel 6 Pro or S22 Ultra for about 2 weeks. I've been a loyal Pixel owner for nearly 6 years since gen 1. I preferred stock Android over the older Samsung skins and no bloatware. But most of all, the first to get updates and for the longest time.
Well, almost all of that has changed, sadly for Google. Latest Samsung UI is great, better specs, a responsive finger print scanner, all had me ready to switch. What really sealed the deal, was Samsung's new promise of 4/5 years of updates. Sorry Google!
Getting my Ultra delivered tomorrow.
How is it?
How's the Ultra feeling so far?
Samsung is still full of bloatware... I know it. Had to go through AL lot of trouble to get rid of it
My experience with Samsung phones are shit. After 3 years they become super laggy can't handle heat during multitasking and have low frame rates
@wazup3333 I think that's a you problem.
Mine never slow down. I still have my Note 10+ along side the ultra and it still holds up.
You did say "my" experience though.
I've found the fuller a storage is, the slower a phone becomes. So utilise cloud services and unload some of the weight from the internal storage.
Pixel 6 basically a samsung phone with pixel brand too. They use a modified exynos SOC (renamed to tensor), use samsung camera sensor, use samsung display, and even manufactured by samsung
Had an S21 Ultra and got the $700 trade in for the S22 Ultra despite the small changes. I used to be a big pixel guy but decided to switch to Samsung when the Pixel 5 came out. Absolutely loving the experience. The software and hardware is fantastic on these phones, I'm much happier with them than I ever would have expected a few years ago. As of right now I'm sticking with Samsung, they have my heart!
Edit: Snapchat support on this phone is amazing, that was a big upgrade for me. I also installed apple emojis and they work everywhere across the board.

I love the fact that Samsung makes things easy to reach. Apps need to stop putting nav buttons at the top where you can barely reach.
Everything? Nonsense. This is just in a few Samsung apps, that's it. And now they added ONE Google app.
Apple is doing a way better job with Reachability which is built in ever since 2014 and works in ALL apps automatically - not just in half a dozen pre-installed ones.
And the fact that you can't really disable it makes it worse.
@Tim R. bro you know androids have a back, home, and recent button right? Even if you didn't want to use the buttons, they have gesture navigation. Just letting you know because it seems you don't know how androids work
@@dequariuswalker4739 Weird argument because that isn't even the point dude and has NOTHING to do with what I said. Sure you can switch to the old layout (as If I don't know stuf like this) so what? @@Raja995mh33 that where one handed mode comes in my guy. That's the whole purpose of one ui. Easy to use with one hand.
@@dequariuswalker4739 Which works a million times worse. Never understand why people even bring up this feature on Android because it's just trash and unusable. Making the entire UI just smaller so it's harder to press something and still often can't reach the top end is stupid. And also in 99% of cases you just want the top UI to come down for ONE sigle interaction. Reachability on iOS does exactly that while Androids version stays until you manually kill it.
It's not that Samsung is controlling the Android experience, it's that they're perfecting it.

The messages app redesign is a OneUI 4.1 thing. Pretty much all new software features are usually made available to older devices.

Good job on the topics! Google should add there main features on the Samsung Galaxy devices. (Screen call, hold feature and etc.)
I've noticed over the years samsung updates does seem to fix major flaws and issues but often they leave out tons of features in many cases out right removing features the old phones had altogether only to release a new phone with that old feature now as new so yeah updates are super sus with samsung.

I was an LG user for a long time thinking Androids are Androids. They are the same. Then when I switched to Galaxy, I realized. They aren't the same. There's always something special about seamless experience of one UI compared to other android phones. Maybe because how close Samsung is with Google.
Better question @mkbhd - why are they not upgrading the more recent devices (tab a8, galaxy fold, etc) to use this same app .....
I think a great idea for a video would be what you guys use to swap your data between devices. I sell phones for a living, and change my device probably every 4 to 6 months, and usually switch between Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus and iPhone. Native apps like smart switch, clone phone, and move to iOS are okay, but you constantly spend a couple weeks with every phone signing back into apps, resetting passwords, re-entering pins, refilling auto fill information etc. would love to know how you guys comfortably switch phones so often, or whether you just use one daily driver for a year or so, and download just a few apps on each of the new devices?
I sell phones too Smart Switch is the best one I seen so far and Move to ios is the worst by a lot its so slow and bad
Excellent conversation
@mkbhd i need a pixel 6 vs note 22 comparison
I have my s21 was planning to change it for the s22+ but after my last update got better at everything I love that Samsung give us updates every 1 or 2 months, so I'm gonna keep it and save to get the iPhone 14 when it comes out cuz I work with MacOs and windows and I like how they work with IPhones and Samsung phones respectively.
That hurried stability and then all you have to do is scroll up and the messages Box it's all the texts full screen
I'll just say I went from my note to the new Pixel 6, I'm massively regretting it. Botched and delayed updates, this is the buggiest phone I've EVER owned, I've had to shut it down at least once a day because of bugs. The battery life is bad. The camera is...good I guess. And now this?? What a disappointment.
Samsung OneUI is currently the best Android skin available on Android now that OxygenOS is gone. You should try out a newer Samsung phone.

So, you're saying that default Android is now a heavy as OneUI ?
It's now as laggy as OneUI ?
What's a little annoying is that narrative of the Pixel phones to have the "stock", "vanilla", "pure" Android experience. But this was incorrect from the beginning. The Pixel line is a test bench, it's the beta that people pay to use instead of being paid to try. The Pixel line has always introduced new software that has been all but stock, vanilla, pure, etc.
Kinda like Microsoft's approach to the Surface. Spend the R&D money to inspire other OEMs.

Google does some weird things when it comes to their apps and phones. Like the Gboard still have the online search only on iPhone? What?

I mean, the thing about Duo RUclips makes sense - google's individual business factions mean RUclips is it's own business Unit - they probably were reached out to by Samsung. THe Pixel team would have to reach out to the RUclips team to do something like that - just because it's the same company doesn't mean they automatically collaborate on the same stuff.
Is Android 12 still buggy? Debating if I should update.
OneUI 4 is bugless (Android 12)
On Samsung it's not buggy for the most part. Don't know about other phones
Android 12 on Pixel is buggy, not on Samsung
Android Auto has been unstable for me. Wireless connection has been choppy and music playback got worse. It was perfect before the 12
Update: I update a samsung device and a pixel to their version of Android 12. Samsung is fine but the pixel's Google assistant is freezing up and exits out..has been the most noticeable issue.
I think google, as is not present totally worldwide on his smarphone division, is releasing that huge features on a phone that they know will be fully mainstream, around the wolrd...
s22 series has made other oem sweat for there money one ui and software updates are now what gives samsung true value and makes apple to level up there game or be the next htc
as far as that 30% title screen is concerned, I love it. And hate the apps that doesn't have it. I use note20Ultra and with even larger screen than note22, It is really important and useful.
But that's what I like the most about Samsung, despite not being a Samsung fan, is how it's awlays been able to override the Android exprience and offer more variant exprience than default Android. More like Samsung-custom exprience, and that's absolutely precious.
The power of Android dynamic features into fruition. You can even say which phone model will get the addon plugin.
I have the S22 Plus and the pre installed google message app but it's not with a Samsung skin
Problem with the recent Pixel line ups are that they're sort of 1st gen device as lot of things Google tried new with Pixel 6 & 6 pro.
Also it's well known how google rushed the launching of android 12 & new pixel devices. So it's just a matter of time, I'm sure google will be able to restrict all the bugs residing in recent Pixels.
Lastly software experience is unmatchable in pixels, been using Pixel 4a since last year, & it's phenomenal.
What ever the good shit pixels build up until pixel 5, 6 series ruin it all
would be cool if they changed to new messages app on other phones too with an update
One UI is a samsung only software.
I always love when basketball talk comes up in non sports places
To be fair, 4 year of OS upgrades tends to actualy be 3 years and a couple months. It depends on when the phone released. For example, the Z fold 4 has 4 years of OS upgrades, but it released with Android 12 around the same time Android 13 released. In reality, it's actually the same as the Pixel 7 which released with Android 13.
I seriously have 1 big problem with android after using both Android and iOS for a few years. The file size of both photos and videos on Android is so huge compared to iOS's. It is heart-breaking each time I send them.
Yeah why we have two messaging app that can't you do an option to delete one of the messaging app you have two samsung and google messaging app. It's annoying. But I like that google and samsung making team or partner to have the best andriod vs iphone.
It's kind of hard to argue with the way that Samsung has been doing things. The Android 12 roll out has been horrendous, yet somehow or another Samsung have the better and least buggy experience with it right out of the gate.

I still have Google Pixel 6 Pro, the following mistakes annoy me extremely: Video telephony is very miserable. Here my selfie camera is not properly adjusted that it is very zoomed. As a result, the image transmission is very poor in quality. Google should fix that quickly. Despite repeating and reinstalling it, the same problem. Selfie camera in the dark should still be optimized, the colors look very pale and it seems that there are problems with software optimization. The photos are reworked so that in the dark the photos lose details and sharpness. Colors are very pale here. Google could work better with white balance.White balance can be set manually, but the setting is not saved, so I have to reset the white balance every time.

One thing I appreciate a lot with Samsung and Google is their willingness to reach out to other companies in order to improve upon their own systems. I appreciate Samsung reaching out to Google to bring a more innovative OS experience, and I appreciate google looking at Samsung's popularity and saying Hey...lets do that too. Being the company that does everything can in a way distract from what makes the company good in the first place. Samsung makes amazing phones and tablets. They have proven to not be afraid to take risks to bring innovation to their devices. Google has made an amazing OS that honestly only gets better over time. Combining the two brings about amazing experiences for their consumers. Are they perfect? No. Do they make the right decisions all the time? No. However because of how they are approaching the development of their devices/systems, they are making strides and bring more innovative technology to the consumers. If Google is taking pointers from Samsung's features then great. Maybe it will turn out really well for pixel users in the long run. Should google who already made such an amazing OS be top dog with android phones...well in a way they already are. It is just more through Samsung android devices at this time than Google pixel devices. Google is still young compared to Samsung with mobile device development. However they have amazing capabilities in building the Android OS. I want to continue seeing what sort of innovative experiences both companies can bring.
