    As a techie student who bounces around a lot of different areas at school, whenever I hear someone mention how “android breaks the chat” I try and educate them on how it’s technically their phones that break the chat because they don’t support modern text messaging. It usually makes them think for a minute and gives me enough time to actually try and inform them on what’s going on. It’s not much, but hey - educate and solve problems one at a time right?

      Unfortunately most people only see the surface level of tech without understanding even the basics of what goes on underneath, such as the difference between SMS and iMessage and other alternatives like RCS. They just know blue and green and know that green doesn't have as many features. Why is that? They don't know. Because they don't understand or care to understand, they adopt a very self centered view that "green is Android's fault because when me text Android, text is green". Even people who know a lot about politics, social trends, and even computer science/engineering think this way. It's sad.
      Highly appreciate your work.

    • @Chickaqee

      Dear iPhone user,
      I find it quite intriguing that you chose to rebuke an Android user for "breaking the group chat" when, in actuality, the onus falls squarely upon Apple's decision not to adopt the widely accepted and technologically superior messaging protocol, Rich Communication Services (RCS).
      To shed some light on the matter, RCS is a cutting-edge messaging standard that supersedes the antiquated Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) protocols. It brings a plethora of advanced features and capabilities such as high-quality media sharing, read receipts, typing indicators, and end-to-end encryption, thereby rendering an enriched and seamless messaging experience to users.
      It's essential to acknowledge that most Android devices have embraced the universal profile of RCS, which ensures seamless interconnectivity amongst various carriers and devices. By doing so, Android has effectively future-proofed its messaging ecosystem, aligning with the ever-evolving demands of communication in this digital era.
      Conversely, Apple has obstinately clung to its proprietary iMessage protocol, which, although feature-rich, remains exclusive to iOS and macOS users. This myopic approach not only hinders interoperability with non-Apple devices but also perpetuates a fragmented messaging landscape.
      It is therefore rather disingenuous to insinuate that the Android user is to blame for "breaking the group chat." In truth, it is Apple's reluctance to adopt RCS that has led to this predicament. By integrating RCS into the iMessage platform, Apple could easily bridge the gap between iOS and Android users, fostering a unified and harmonious messaging experience.
      In conclusion, I implore you to reassess your stance and recognize that the onus of "breaking the group chat" lies not with the Android user but with Apple's refusal to support the RCS protocol. It is high time for Apple to abandon its walled garden approach and embrace open standards that foster seamless communication across all devices and platforms.

    • @dumpsterfirefrl
      @dumpsterfirefrl Год назад

      @@Chickaqee Disingenuous? Android is quite literally incentivized to adopt RCS with how fragmented the market is for phone manufacturers that adopt their operating system. Even then, it's still a subpar product.
      Why would Apple allocate the resources to adopt RCS when they've already created a tangentially superior product? The irony and cognitive dissonance in defining Apple's strategy as a "myopic approach". What about the fiduciary responsibility Apple has to its shareholders to leverage their market position after investing the Capex needed to vertically integrate and create said competitive advantage?
      It's the equivalent of Bing, Yahoo, and Baidu forming a consortium to pressure Google into relinquishing search engine market share. Shy of a government anti-trust probe, Apple has no fiduciary duty to adopt RCS. Welcome to the free market, bud.

    • @scylusblack6241
      @scylusblack6241 Год назад +6

      iMessage isn't superior to RCS, and critically, iMessage is the tallest wall in their garden. Apple users are already used to and trained to accept a shitty experience when working outside of their "environment." Supporting RCS would fix too many of iphones problems and free people to try other phones. So they're not going to until they're forced to (just like the EU forced them to fix their old, trash charge port).

      I feel like the flack she catches has less to do with the fact she has an Android and more to do with having a Pixel. The problem is people comparing "iPhone to Android." Android is an operating system, so how can you compare that to a phone? People perpetuate the notion that "iPhone is better than Android" by lumping ALL Android phones together as if they're the same just because they have the same operating system. There are so very high end non-iPhone smart phones on the market today, some even better then iPhones, that are Android phones. But people discount and overlook them because when they think of Android, they're not thinking of the latest Samsung Galaxy with a 4K camera and 12GB of RAM, they're thinking the average phone made by whomever that also has Android on it.

I wouldn't suggest they do this immediately, but if they gave a 5 year transitionary warning Apple would need to either allow RCS or take some other action. They could start in another country where the impact wouldn't be as huge and slowly bring it to the US as people prepare systems etc.
    Ultimately, if Android only allowed RCS and other web-based messaging (WhatsApp etc.) Apple would need to allow some of the RCS compatibility or lose iMessage dominance through it not working at all for messaging 1/4 of Americans (and higher % of the population elsewhere).

      It's not just that, even if SMS went free abroad, SMS sucks.. It doesn't use WiFi, No sent confirmation, no Read receipts.. If the other person's phone is off, the text just can't be sent and you have to wait for them to turn it on, no encryption, no HD videos or HD photos.. It's horrible overall...

    I’m British and I don’t text people AT ALL. If people say the phrase “I’ll send you a text”, what they’ll mean is a message via Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp or Messenger. They do not mean a text. People go around saying “what’s your snap?” Or “what’s your Instagram?”. The stereotypical “can I get your number?” Phrase is just not uttered. So android and iPhone debates never result to the blue and Green message thing, and is only ever down to price and features. Such an interesting thing to observe overseas !!
