I think it would be so hilarious if you're on a google phone and react to a text message from someone on iMessage for google to just send a text back saying "Loved", "disliked" etc... using the same tactics on Apple and ruining the way their precious little messaging app looks 😂😂It'd be so petty, but I love it
1000% Google needs to do this. I want iOS users to get that pain (no offense iOS users) 😂
Yes
I thought of the same thing
i was thinking the exact same thing
Then iOS users will think that android phones can't even react properly and that sending a message for a reaction is the default in android. You have to remember that we're dealing day to day normies that don't know how iOS or android work.
edit: spelling
Google should allow you to "react" to iPhone SMS messages as if it were RCS, but just send the same "User liked this message" text message back to iPhone users 😅
Edit: I look through the comments and it seems that a LOT of people actually had the same idea. Maybe it's a logical one 👍
BTW, I do have the Google Messages update on my GP6 Pro and it's 1000x better!
This!!!!!!! And then maybe apple would be forced to respond in a similar manner and solve the silly issue once and for all
I have Google messages and the Pixel 6 pro, I'm even in the beta but I can't react to texts from iPhones??? Why not?
This feature finally happened with new update of G Messages
@@debarghyachandra3756 I have all of the updates except replying directly to texts and reacting to iPhone texts!!! When do I get them?
I want Apple users to hate this, so they're forced to use RCS instead.
This is working on my beta version of Google Messages. MUCH MUCH happier than getting all the duplicate messages. What a sanity saver. I would prefer to be able to react back but if I had to choose then I'd rather not be able to react then have duplicate messages for reactions.
How do you have it. I'm also in the beta program but I don't have the option to enable it
Same. I'm on beta but yet to receive the update.
I'm on the beta too and it doesn't work. So do you have a pixel? Saw that it's only rolling out to pixels for now somewhere.
Reacting back wouldn’t help much, as even iPhone users get to see Tapbacks as messages in sms group chats I’m pretty sure
Don't the apple folks still get the stupid message though?
Google should just return the favour: When an Android user reacts to an iOS user, it just sends the iOS user a text with "User X reacted to your message".
That has nothing to do with Google, its Google that has made this happen. That would require apple to return the favour. Which knowing apple they won't
It would end up with apple doing this too. And then we would never have a standard message platform
No people can return the favor by literally sending the whole text back 😂
You know what would be funny if Google turned on reactions for sms and sent the annoying reaction text messages back at apple users.
Problem solved on the Android side, then the ball would be in Apple's court to fix (aka adopt RCS)
Agreed! Was hoping they would say this in the video.
I was about to type that!
This would be HILARIOUS
That would not work tbh, there are more apple folks, so they have the power to throw the person out of group chats
@@paritoshmehta4048 Well, they are already doing that, if you getting kicked out, why not pull off one last troll
I already typed that🤣🤣
Google actually is working on the photo/video problem as well. They are introducing a Google Photos integration to allow you to just send a share link directly from the messages app. Works great honestly
They have had that and it didn't work well. My dad and I both have Pixels, we sent photo links through SMS and the other never received. Thing is neither of us intended to send a phot link but attach the actual photo like we normally would. Didnt find out until months later that we didn't receive it from each other.
@@jamesbuchen6256 Why not use RCS if you both have Pixels?
@@Justin63121 even if you have RCS with Pixel phones, do photos and videos send through full res?
@@FaZaFurhod yes, and it works with any android phone via Google messages
@@Justin63121 nah I don't think it does. maybe between Pixels, but my mom has a Galaxy Note 10 Plus and I've noticed that whenever I send videos back and forth they are not full res. Unless I am doing something wrong, but RCS is activated on both ends (I have the Pixel 6 pro)
Google should convert a reaction from an android phone that sent to an iPhone to be a simple text message. Reverse the experience
Emojis should be standardized between all manufacturers. When conveying an emotion, it's extremely important that what I'm sending is identical to what someone is receiving and vice-versa
I think they basically are... Just been for reactions Google chose not to follow the unicode
Emoji are there own body they are standardized. Google just changed the quick bar.
@@SpencerTambo The way the app interprets the icon is standardized, but the way an emoji looks is not. It's a stylistic interpretation of the emotion and varies from OS to OS or even app to app. I'm saying they should all be the exact same icons regardless of what OS or app you happen to be using.
@@EliteProductions3129 I might have to disagree on that one. Emojis aren't Official Traffic signs or symbols, they can be stylized and made creative. True that some emoji packs from some makers is ugly or wrong, but hey, not all fonts are beautiful
I'm very surprised no one mentioned Google just allowing reactions and then sending iphones the same text back. The problem would be solved then.
This would just annoy more people lol. What would this solve
@@jacobkaneff8261 maybe it will encourage Apple to integrate with RCS. And a little taste of their own medicine wouldn't hurt lol.
@@jacobkaneff8261 it’s not about keeping the total number of annoyed people lower. It’s about making the experience better for your customers
@@qcktap23 But it's not Apple getting annoyed..... It's the end users.
@@thetechrealist and just like Google addressed the issue for their users, they could too for theirs.
It came through as "such and such liked a message" on the notification, and the overlay of the chat bubble but it always works in the chat
I'm petty so if I was Google I would send the "Loved your message" back to iPhones
This is a good first step I hope both Apple and Android can come together to make texting better for both parties.
You guys need to do an updated pod cast of this exact subject
I had a friend on Android (So am I) who is always in group chats. He never had an iPhone. One day, I got a message back from him "Byron liked an image" in our 1 on 1 chat. I was like "wait you got an iphone?". He was confused..... Wdym?
He literally thought people were typing that and it was a thing. He literally typed to me "Byron liked a message" hahahahaha lmfao. Oof
I'm so glad you guys addressed this. My wife has an iPhone and I just got my Galaxy S22+ hoping that the Samsung skinned google messages app could send reactions back to iPhone. I'm hoping Apple ,at the very least, meets Google in the middle by allowing that.
Why doesn't Google send react sms text back to apple users, and allow android users react back?
That's what I was thinking! I mean I'm not in the US so I don't really have this problem but to me it make sense to just send a SMS reaction back.
Google should treat apple the same way it treats others
Give you the ability to react back but send them the exact same message they would send when they react
That would make imessage users, the only ones with annoying react messages which would work in reverse on how the things were. Making people to switch to android for better texting, which will hopefully force apple to use RCS instead
You are assuming a-lot with this text.
These are cause-and-effects rather than assumptions. They ought to happen if google treats apple this way. The only thing that is an assumption is google doing this; the others are the effects of that.
Google just needs to do to imessage users what they used to do to Android users and allow Android users to send "Andrew liked your message" texts. Just make the Android experience better, if iPhone users feel like they're missing out on something, that's good for Google
Edit: okay literally everyone has this idea I love it
Bring David on full time on this Podcast! He's the Salt 🧂 to MKBHD'S Pepper 🌶️
that sounds wrong...
To the last comment about intercepting videos:
Google already has a feature which when you send photos and videos from Google Photos, it'll automatically create a link and replace the media with that link when sending over SMS.
Just incoming messages is still a problem...
When there are group chats with both iOS and Android users, and an iOS user does a reaction, *everyone* (including iOS users) gets the text message that says “Loved ‘x’” or “laughed at ‘x’”. So, iPhone users already experience the react messages just a bit.
Nobody here seems to understand that lol. So now Google users have the "better experience" on mixed threads.
Yea, they absolutely should let android react back
I didn't realize that, being the only Android user in the family.
You actually can send the reactions too in a roundabout way. Just send:
Liked “copy paste text here”
Loved “copy paste text here”
Laughed at “copy paste text here”
(note the quotes aren't the standard double quotes) and if the other user has google messages, they'll get the react as if you used the iphone reaction feature.
I have the reactions and I like it so much better than getting an extra text. I don't mind not being able to react back because I don't view a reaction as a response and most of the times it ends the current conversation. Also, I can use reactions with other android users so I'm fine with that.
they were waiting for your video 😅
“Kumbaya, my lord! I just left a big heart!”
Waiting for telegram end to end encryption, rather than traditional message
Well secrets chats are already E2E
There has been E2E support on telegram for years and it's OPTIONAL, you can use it if you want or not. There are benefits to using both cloud and E2E so its your choice to use what you want. PLEASE don't say E2E when someone says telegram everytime, Sorry
@@keni94 lots are people aren't aware of it, i think that should be turned on by default, and given an option to turn it off
@@pedapudishanmukh4618 Well that's just preference. Telegram is meant to be used with One's Phone, tablet, laptop all at the same time they all sync instantly and there is support for huge files and unlimited backup for all chats. If people are paranoid enough to think their data is not safe they can use the E2E feature which is not backed up by nature. If you uninstall the app or lost your phone all your data will also be lost. By the way using cloud doesn't mean your messages are unencrypted, In fact, everything is encrypted with telegram's own algorithm which is open source for inspection. People probably don't know about these features cuz telegram doesn't spend a dime on advertisement. It's just free service with no ads
Take a shot for every time he says channel on the outro lol
You should be able to react back from Android to IOS and the IPhone user gets just a message that says, „Somebody liked your message.“
In a week Apple would want to work with Google to fix it
LOL! 8 Million of value! Nailed it
Marques we did it 💥
Honestly I'm happy they are finally taking on these tactics. Google waited ages for carriers to jump on RCS. When the carriers started their own initiative after all that time, Google just said screw it and activated their own RCS server in the app.
Apple has had ages to incorporate RCS in their messages app and upgrade the experience for everyone and havent, so Google is taking it upon themselves to put in workarounds to for the shortcomings of SMS.
They should even go as far as to send the same annoying reaction texts that Apple sends. It was apple's choice to allow reactions when they knew SMS doesn't support them, so give them a taste of their own medicine.
Hopefully all this will pressure Apple to support the standard and we will all have a better texting experience overall.
I agree with you Marques let’s just switch to telegram 😍😂😂
I like this idea because I've been ridiculed so much for ruining group texts because it would fill up with all of the reactions. I don't need to be able to react back to them, I personally feel like it is dumb, but just being able to get rid of all of those extra texts would be helpful.
Uploading images to Google photos from within messages is something they're working on already
11:34 They have done this!! Now when sending a video or photo it sends a google photos link with a high quality image!!
Google has to do the same thing to apple and send “Someone laughed at whatever”
imagine if google added reactions to messages going apple devices but because it can't send reaction, it sends messages like apple is doing rn... that would be honestly dope thing to do.
With Google messages you do get the "person is typing" indicator and it uses wifi or data for a lot of things now too. It seems more like youll be able to do everything imessage can do as long as its android to android unless apple opens up a bit more. Google should make it so you can react to an iphone message but itll send the annoying 'David liked "yes im here" ' just to give them some annoyance back
When you're in a mixed messaging thread (Google and iphone users) if an iPhone user sends a reaction I'm fairly certain even iPhone users get the "xxx liked this message" text.
So now it's annoying to iPhone users, but not Android users.
Signal is not entirely platform agnostic. It can work as a near iMessage clone on Android.
As someone who just switched to iPhone after being a Nexus/Pixel owner since Android inception, I can say I didn’t move because I wanted blue bubbles and reactions. I switched because my Pixel experience expectations were so high that I let myself down. I’ve been on iPhone 13 Pro Max for a month and it’s just an overall better experience though I’m not 100% sold on giving Apple my whole ecosystem.
Out of curiosity, how come you went to an iphone instead of a different android device?
I've been waiting on it forever too, P6p. I think it's the Samsung phones that are enabling it.
No one uses Google Messages so from my experience, I have yet to see a single chat thread with RCS activated
Google has now added reactions to the Message app.
Did you do johns Hopkins CTY?
Still can't believe y'all get Quentin Tarantino on the pod
Hey, Google could retaliate by making iMessage users receive the same texts for every reaction (tapback) sent from an Android device.
Using Viber, end to end encryption and works everywhere and on everything
google should allow for android phones to react but it converts it to an sms message like what apple did to them. Good payback.
Switcharoo on them, send them the reaction text messages lol
When it's out of beta I think Google will issue a explanation the 1st time you get a reaction
Google should now let people react and send it as SMS messages to annoy iphone users 😂
Sending reactions to iPhones like user liked this would be perfect with their last idea in the video, sending a video uploads to a Google drive for a limited time or something then it sends an embedded link so the apple user can see it but they can't send high quality videos back
Google messages on my S22 Ultra is basically a texting app from 2010. I've lost all functionality since switching from my Note 20 ultra. Side by side it says it's the same version when it clearly isn't.
Continuing the metric analogy Andrew started last video. This would be the equivalent of the rest of the world using an auto converter for imperial units because the US will never change to Metric, but the rest of the world can't send metric back to the US.
I think the best thing to do is have Google allow reactions but have it also send as an SMS that way apple HAS TO do something
In regards to iMessage being "more accommodating" than for example Whatsapp... In countries where everyone uses whatsapp like my country Colombia, whatsapp is usually included in any phone plan no matter how cheap it is so even if you don't have phone minutes, sms messages or even data, you can still chat on whatsapp. Now if an iPhone user starts messaging you on iMessage, since you probably don't have sms messages then either you won't get them, or you'll get charged for receiving them or if you have them then it will use up your phone minutes/sms messages which would be terrible. So this is "more accommodating" in countries where most people have unlimited SMS messages but not in other countries where people don't.
Google should send a message back at them, like when you react to their message they should send the iphone user the "this guy reacted to your message" message
If your running BETA for messages you'll get these features fast.
We all got to send reactions now to our iPhone friends haha
I'm in the BETA but can't react to iPhone messages.
They need a broken heart Tapback on the iPhone reaction in iMessage. As well as a crying Tapback too.
I didn't know that this such a big deal....like people contemplate over this?!
This is literally one of the main reasons Ive stayed with Apple… reaction’s are literally how we communicate through txt now… at least for iPhone users 😅
nah the forced division that iPhone keeps encouraging is exactly why I don't have an iPhone
We need to throw the Uno Reverse Card 🤣
I love how the Messages on Android are implemented so beautifully to give me the emoji stamp on the message. However, I finally saw what it looks like on apple messages, and on apple users see:
🙂 to "............................."
I'm glad the tables have turned before getting my first Android. Android is for adults, and iphones are for teenagers.
It's def a step in the right direction but needs to keep going further. If anything, the reactions need to work in group chats.
As an Android user in a group chat with a bunch of iPhone users, I love having the reactions on my phone now but every other iPhone user gets the "so and so liked this message." Still annoying got the iPhone users
There's nothing Google can do about that though. That's Apple's own fault for how they implement their reactions over SMS
@@tykow yea true. I guess it's just me being hopeful that that would be the ideal next step to work in group chats. It sucks since a lot of my work correspondence is through iMessage group chats
Google should just UNO-reverse-card apple by just sending an SMS to the iPhone user when I react to their message 😂
I know it was mentioned in the green bubbles video but this is such an America centric issue, in the UK and Europe as a whole I don't know anyone that uses iMessage, almost everyone uses Facebook messenger or WhatsApp
I think with the videos, Google could build in some kind of digital video enhancer that automatically scans the video and makes it look less pixelated in their messaging app. I guess they could also do this with outgoing videos too. I don't know. I think Google has already done something like this in their Google Photos app. Google photos is able to digitally enhance the picture you took to make it look better than it's original quality. What do you all think about this idea?
In settings you can put on let people see your typing
Just do the same thing apple does when they react. Google needs to program it to send for example: "blah blah blah laughed at 'the chicken crossed the road to get to the other side' ." Then we can annoy apple users and tell them to get an android phone.
I got the update I love it
Thank you google for caring
Does anybody know how to do chat Quote in Google Messages ?
They should send the same style text back to the iPhone hahahaha
Just recently bought galaxy 22 at first, I could react to an message. But every since the update, my texts doesn't seem to react to texts anymore.
Is there a way to turn off txt notifications for reactions??
It is surprising to me, how many people would buy an expensive iPhone, use its advanced chip to scroll tick tock just so that they can have iMessage. Any 200 dollar phone can scroll tick tock with oled screens.
I have iphone users who are clueless what happens when the react. And I have Android users who are clueless of what heppens in an iPhone users reaction. It's funny, but frustrating when ur a witness on a group chat.
Uhhh I've been waiting for this feature forever. I've been on the beta Google messages app but still don't have it 😭😭
Do you think it's a good idea if Google flips the script across Android and decided to do the same thing were you can react back butt iPhone user's get an annoying message and see how things evolve
You have to download a beta apk from apkmirror for example. Messages beta from play store on a samsung device for some reason doesnt have it 02:49
Why doesn't Google do what Apple did. Let Android users react to iPhones but it sends "Person liked your message" lol
Just to weigh in.. most of the people in India don't really use imessages as they do in US. Here our default messaging app has been whatsapp and most of them don't really care about Google messages or imessages
But is it Google reading our message? Violates privacy 😅😅😅
On the latest Beta version and it doesn't work :/
Google should add their own reaction system so the iOS users would see "blabla likes your message" too :D but i guess sundar pichai is too busy to see my wonderful idea.
It don't work on mine tho🤔
Honestly, this is a good temporary solution. I'm a lot happier and a lot less frustrated now. Thank goodness Google did something.
Should I switch to google messanger? I have a galaxy S20 FE and use the default samsung messanger
he is holding an s22 plus
I have a similar problem, I'm rocking an oooold iphone (6) and so I'm stuck on ios 12 and I don't have the latest emoji, and so very often i'm chatting with friend on instagram and I just get a question mark... and then you need to ask for people to send you a screenshot to see what the other person meant... wich is kinda anoying
They should have kept rcs with just the pixel to boost pixel sales
Imagine using whatsapp on either iOS or Android and not even being able to react to messages AT ALL... * shivers *
Aren't they both just years behind where Skype is / was? It's sad that Skype was so mismanaged
Google should make it so that they let u react but then apple gets the message of someone reacted to the mesaage
Google should have it that we can react back and it shows on people's iPhones "person reacted to "blah blah" 😂 annoy them back
Why no mention of signal messaging?
My reaction doesn't work on my S20. I have the feature on but I doesn't work. Why is this??
I just got the S22 ultra and using Google messages. I can't react to anyones text ( Android user) . The 1st day it worked and now it doesn't 😓
It's been working, kinda. Like over a month or so. It doesn't come up every time. But my daughter has been reacting to my messages from her iPhone 11 pro Max. For like a month or so. My daughter sends hearts not for death lol 😂. She signifies she loves me after I Google pay here money 😆
