      Well the difference is Apple (and even Samsung) has cornered a whole market for themselves so they can get away with it, meanwhile Pixel hasn’t, it barely has a market in North America and the fact that they made their product worse value, does not help them at all. Nobody in Asia or Europe talks about Pixel, maybe in the enthusiast scene but beyond that, everyone is Samsung or one of the Chinese phones. In fact Pixel does not even sale in majority of the Asian or European markets

    I think Google just realised how good the A series was for the Pixel line in terms of price-performance - they can get away with these bumps and make the Pixel 8A when it comes out REALLY stand out and be the final thing enticing users who didn't switch for the 8 / 8 Pro

    • @Xee2Trappy
      @Xee2Trappy 8 месяцев назад +4

      Yes, but if they make the pixel 8 the 8A, then they could still grab a lot more market share because it’s a way more powerful device, but still offers a very low price which intern draws in more customers who would’ve otherwise gone to Samsung or Apple. and then keep building on that foundation for another three generations of smart phones. They can easily overtake Samsung by making a more refined device at a lower price, which benefits the customers and promotes innovation

      A lot of this, is jus their opinion lol. The Pixel is gaining market share in Japan and stealing it away from the iphone. The best sales happened with the Pixel 7/7 Pro last year and is on track to gain more market share. Google has bungled this the launch of the Pixel since the beginning but since the 6 series they have gotten better.

    • @peterparker2068

      The iPhone on average gets about six years of support now, but usually with the older phone, they might get a stripped-down version of the OS because the hardware is older and might not support the latest features. Personally, with past Samsung devices getting only three major OS updates is good enough for me but Samsung kept some of their phones with five years of security updates like the S7 and the Note 9 got its last security patch in February 2023. According to Samsung the newer phones get the guarantee five years of security patches. The newer OS might take up more resources and cause phones to slow down. So keeping an older OS with recent security patches is an ideal situation for me. I think I remember a friend who kept his iPad 2 on an older OS because he knew newer OS updates might slow down the experience on older devices. I know my iPhone 5s experience was bad when I updated to the latest OS.

    Honestly, the price comment is rubbish! If they are doing a product that is equally good to the rest of the market, there’s no reason for them to sell it for less. And implying that Google need to subsidize their hardware business with their ad revenue shows how little RUclipsrs understand business. You should stay away from things you don’t under. Pixel 8pro is priced perfectly. It’s a vertically integrated product experience that is arguably better than Apple’s right now albeit with a one year older cpu tech which makes the price on par with the market. I’d rather pay that price and get the pixel experience and the quality it delivers for a longer period of time. Also, get out of this topping the benchmark mindset. I am still using a Pixel 6 with no performance issues at all whatsoever. Seriously, learn to review products in a way that matters to people. Not for the leaderboards. Carl Pei’s reviews are way more sensible. Come to 2023, you are still in 2015

    My wife has an s23 ultra and she likes my pixel 6 pro better than it. I preordered an 8 pro and she said her next phone will be a pixel. So having more power isn't everything. My 6 pro still does what the majority of people will use it for.

      This is exactly what people don't get about the pixel phone. They keep talking about benchmarks and whatnot. That has nothing to do with how well the phone boost works for you. It's the definition of what a PDA used to be. And it does everything flawlessly almost exactly as you need it to do it.

    • @erebostd
      @erebostd 8 месяцев назад +3

      Exactly! My wife pushed me to get the 8 pro (got it 4 days ago, it’s amazing 😁) so she could snap my pixel 6 pro. She had a recent oneplus device, but every time she used the Pixel she liked something new - the image quality, the snappy UI, the cool software gadget, or the simple fact that the pixel worked with every car (android auto wireless) without exceptions or problems. Even her workphone (a iPhone max) could do this with carplax, and had some hiccups in her Mercedes. Pixels rock, thats just a fact. And the big tech RUclipsrs see it this way, too 😁👍

    I feel like Google is damned if they and damn if they don't honestly. If they release a phone at too low everybody says its a budget phone and probably sucks. If they release a phone at a premium price everybody beats them up about it and compares them to Apple and Samsung. I feel like Google doesn't care about Apple or Samsung they just want to release phones that they feel show Android in the best light and that's it. They have said the Tensor chip isn't meant to compete with Apple's chips in power and they are solely for AI and Pixel related stuff.

    • @sonnythebigbearliston8442
      @sonnythebigbearliston8442 3 месяца назад

      My guy, it's not about what people think it's about what the phone offers. If google doesn't want their phones to be regarded as budget phones it shouldn't give it budget specs, especially not at 900-1100 bucks, because you're quite explicitly competing with the likes of Samsung and iPhone.

    This argument can be made for every phone manufacturer, though. Samsung S22 vs S23? iPhone 13 -> 14 -> 15.
    The name of the game these days is subtle improvements and slightly different design. It's bare minimum across the board.
    I've always loved the Pixel, and would still be using the fold if not for the way no good launchers support the form factor. Pixel 8 will replace the Pixel 7 in my pocket in a few days. It suits my needs the best. Not to mention the A series if the best investment for anyone who isn't married to Apple on a tight budget.

  • @Char1es4k
    @Char1es4k 8 месяцев назад +5

    I think whether it's worth it comes down to the pricing. Price for pixel 8 pro 256 GB here in Germany is 1160 Euro, bundled with the new watch 2 for free, whereas flagship iPhone 15 pro Max with 256 GB is at 1450 Euro. If I resell the watch 2 at 300 euro, pixel 8 pro costs roughly 60% of the pricetag of iPhone 15 pro Max. As someone who don't play mobile games, I'd say it's a good deal considering it's brand new rather than 8-9 months old. I do have high hopes because the thermal issue seems to have been fixed based on some tests from channel PBKreviews.

  • @ATShields935
    @ATShields935 8 месяцев назад +8

    Across the board, regardless of which part of the tech sector it's in, whenever Google releases a consumer hardware product, it is because they are trying to push that sector of the market in a direction. For example, in the world of Chromebooks, every time a pixelbook was released, it was because they were trying to shape Chromebooks in a certain direction. The original Pixelbook they were pushing the two-in-one form factor, and in the next few years other OEMs were doing the same thing. With the Pixel Slate they were trying to expand OEM support for the Chrome OS tablet form factor, and with the pixelbook go, they were trying to push OEMs into making more premium Chromebooks for more competitive prices.
    Similarly, the first five Pixel phones set a standard for what a mid-range Android device should be, and with the Pixel 6 through the Pixel 8, it has been setting on model for what more premium devices should aim for. They may be behind the curve compared to the likes of Samsung, but with Pixel being as successful as they are *behind* Samsung, still makes them a model for the Motorola's and OnePluses of the world. The Pixel Fold is another one of those industry shaping devices. The biggest feature of the pixel fold release was not necessarily the phone itself, but Google making a statement to the OEMs in the Android smartphone market saying "We (The makers of the Android OS) are invested in this form factor. Follow along or get left behind."

    Last year I sold my iPhone X (after using it for almost 5 years) and bought Pixel 6. I'm very happy with the phone and honestly I don't miss iPhone. The reason why I went for Pixel 6 is because I always wanted to try google phone and because the price was right for me ( I didn't have money to spend on iPhone anymore or on any Samsung S version). As I use phones for a long time (4-5 years) I don't really care if new phones are getting crazy amouny of changes because when the time is right for me to buy a new phone then already I'm getting a big change over my old phone. Only one thing which I don't like when it comes to google is that they are not even trying to expand their market so I have a huge issues getting Pixel in my country as it is not available here, so I need to buy it overbroad.

    With modern flagship smartphones, the hardware should be able to handle seven years of new OS updates. It could be similar to desktop computers. The computers in the 90s would require upgraded hardware to handle newer OS but as you have seen with the computer so mature newer chips and hardware can last for a long time. My computer I built in 2012 can still do most daily tasks without an issue. The same could be said about modern smartphones unless you break them. I daily drove my Galaxy Note 4 for five years until it died. I had the about the same life spane with my Note 9 until it got stolen last year. If I still had it I would still be using it. The hard is a bit old but I still have my Nexus 2013 which I still use for just light applications like watching videos, if it had higher specs maybe the experience would be better.

    I don't agree with all the commentators about price fro the pixel line up. I think there's an interesting thought experiment we do in thinking people are drawn to value yet the several hundreds cheaper than the iPhone pro or regular iPhone Pixel phones of the past two years would often struggle to gain appeal in my store where I sell the big three Apple, Samsung and Google. where as explaining to people that the pixel 8 which is only roughly $100 cheaper than both s23 base model and 15 is actually an easier sell to someone who isn't brainwashed to just buy the latest apple devices. the 7 years of updates is also huge for customers. a vast majority of people I see asking me about devices are tired of needing a new phone every 3-5 years. I think the price for the regular pixel is just on point. also I'm getting a pro with extra storage for more than $200 cheaper than a 512GB 15 pro max so the value savings is defiantly still there for a user like me. I don't care about benchmarks, I'm not shelling out what my car blue books out for Vision Pro, its a ludacris price for VR, even if it looks more refined than others. So the benchmarks in an iPhone or an Ultra aren't super appealing since I'm using my phone for phone. I would be very interested in new tools and refinement of the features I love most about my Pixel like call screening, and IVR interactions on automated menus. I also love the ease of use that Pixel software for post edits already works on android 13.

    My biggest issues with Pixels aren’t hardware as since the 6 their design and hardware looks very premium. All my issues stem from what’s inside, the Tensor chip that’s an offshoot of the worst chipset Exynos. It has caused all the problems like overheating, bad call quality and connectivity issues, various software bugs and glitches and poor battery life/standby time. I am hoping this year the 8 series turns things around because I’m a huge Pixel fan and I think they have so much potential. Especially with the $100 price increases this year it’s a make or break year for Google. They have to deliver or risk losing customers.

      Funny i never had problems with my pixel 7 at all 😂 every update on a phone should NOT be downloaded . I havent updated my iphone 14 pm but my friends did my battery health is 100% while theres is 70-90 .. which tells you updates actually get worst on the apple for older devices while it gets better on the pixel! So long term the pixel has been better imo

    I dont agree with the update stuff, 7 years is very good and makes it still a very good option in the used market 4-5 years down the market. The pixel 6 still got almost all the features of the 8, the new camera UI, the new customization, its gonna get magic editor, it got clear calling and alotta stuff that they introduced with the 7, they're not like apple that the 12 pro has a night mode with the ultrawide but the 11 pro cant even tho its the same exact exact camera hardware. Not to mention a few months from launch they get lretty sweet sales

    to be honest Google should sell pixel to more countries and expand their services especially Google pay& Google wallet ,,,i'm living here in Saudi Arabia where most people are using either iphone or samsung phones and only few will have other brands like Xiaomi and Oppo while i do have Pixel 5 but 5G or VoLTE or VoWIFI is not working here while at other companies phones are working fine,
    i just wish Google would start selling Pixels and expands their services to middle east where i'm sure they will receive a lot of customers that ready to jump in.

    I have a pixel 7. I had a 6 not much longer they revealed the 7 and had a great trade in deal and all that. Then the 7 lost value so quickly. So I am unsure of upgrading to an 8. The issue with the pixel is that they every year they seem to JUST miss the target ever so slightly. The 4 was so killer. Then it was behind so quickly. They seem to be a day late and a dollar short. It is not the end of the world, but really each one of these should be a grand slam. The 6a was. They were different and unique. Plus it is google. They should be held at even high standards, but it seems like they are up their own ass on design language. Like bro, just give us colors. Stop being coy. We liked the pixel because it wasn't jewelry. We liked the more compact size and recognizable design language. It was an alternative. Now it feels like they are just trying to be apple, but not. Great analysis btw!

      Man I'm still rocking a Pixel 2 XL. And it's still reliable and does what I need it to do. There's really no need to upgrade to the latest phone with every iteration. Pixel 8 or another new phone might be worth upgrading for me at this point because it's been a long since I last upgraded, but if you have a Pixel 6 or 7 there is no reason to upgrade to the current iteration unless it's a free upgrade or a very, very good deal.

    I disagree with a lot of what was said in the video, but, the 7 years of support is a hard pill to swallow. To see the issue in full look back instead of forward, 7 years ago was the OG Pixel, this is like saying that Android 14, magic eraser, magic editor etc would even think about running on the OG Pixel. The keynote specifically said all feature drops, security updates, and OS updates for 7 years which is not feasible with how tech works.

    Trade in value for select carriers balances the price increase. $500-$1000 for older devices that Samsung & Apple will give $350-$500. Google will profit off of the service providers making the price tag relevant. Google AI potentially could have been that inclusive feature as the selling point. As mentioned in your video, google play would profit more from a feature that is more friendly with android ecosystem overall vs google branded only. I wouldn’t even IGN score the Pixel 8 @ n 8 🤷‍♂️

    The sales will tell us if the new price is the right price. But to me, they are too expensive for what they do. On this price bracket, you are not supposed to do compromises (screen, battery life, charging, cameras, gaming, durability...) and they are supposed to be as good as S23 ultra and iphone 15 pro or even better because pixels are challengers.

Its the first time ive switched to Android and not missed iPhone and here in Britain, at least where I live, I see the odd Pixel phone being used in the wild, that coupled with an aggressive advertising campaign over here, I think Google phones are as popular as theyve ever been. Yeah sure, the design hasnt changed much in the last few generations but neither has the iPhone and yes the chips might not be as up to scratch as some of the other offerings out there but this phone is the first phone in a long time, that I have actually got excited to own. Taxes and tariffs are not the only things Google worries about in the markets; it's not selling pixels. Patents and other services that the region requires as well. Having ppl import their devices is a good move. Some ppl prefer to import because they're able to get it at a cheaper price than they would have paid if it is sold in country. One big thing in Samsung's playbook is that their devices provides features you can't get on other Android devices. Google needs to keep going heavy on that front. When the other catch up, make yours better.

      Googles already doing that... problem is that the software features that makes these phones so good (screen call, clear call, the free VPN thing, etc...) are not available outside the US... without these, the Pixel is just a mediocre overpriced phone that cant be purchased on most countries and will be beat by more aggressive priced competitors like Xiaomi...
      Only If Google would make all Pixel features Worldwide then it'd be worth It to import a Pixel and pay the customs taxes and everything, but right now it just isnt... (especially in my country where customs taxes are 120% of the value of the product, it's absolutely crazy expensive for a person to import anything here...)

    we decided to get Pixel 7 and 7 Pro for most of the folks who prefer Android. Even though most of our crew is all about iPhones, the problem is that almost every Pixel user is asking for an upgrade after just a year, which is kind of unusual. Our team usually sticks with their devices for at least three years. Now, the main gripes from Pixel users are the frequent app crashes, the phone heating up like crazy, and the battery not lasting the whole day. Personally, I love Pixel phones for the OS, but the OS starts acting up after just a year, not seven. So, this year, we're switching all our mobile devices to iPhones, mainly for the budget-friendly factor. I think things like this plays a huge factor.

    When it comes to apple lets say, big percentage of their revenue comes from iphone sales so they have to keep raising prices in order to keep profits growing but with google, pixel smartphones arent really that important money making source so I feel like they could afford to keep their smartphone prices down and offer to customers great smartphones for reasonabke prices. So im kind of sad to see that going away this year.

    This whole video says actually nothing besides criticising Pixels for not investing enough money (maybe?) The only constructive part I got from the video was that they want the Pixel to be available to more countries. They actually did not talk about the phone at all. How is it not a well rounded phone when S23 Ultra and iPhone 15PM are? What makes them well rounded?
    It just feels like they have pre-conceived notions about the Pixel line up and no matter what Google comes up with, they would not acknowledge. I think the AI features Google introduced are actually useful and those things set the phones apart from the iPhones and Galaxies of the world

    The best Google device was the Nexus 7 which was a great device with a combination of performance And price. It was the most popular and well sold device. Google loss its way. With the pixel line it went from mid-range pricing and good specs. The pixel 5 was an anomaly because it used mid-range specs. With the recent pixels with their own tensor chips They are treading on premium smartphone territory. Their chips don't seem to Compare with the top chips. The problem with Google devices is the reputation. They have been plugged with hardware and software issues. I heard people have issues with the fingerprint reader the screen and on release there are software bugs.

    All Google needs to do is put a processor in their phones that is more powerful than every other processor every other manufacturer is putting in their phones. Possibly the Snapdragon X Elite processor. Also, Google should give their Pixel phones a "desktop" mode that would rival Samsung's "DeX" mode. Google should also include a Thunderbolt port on the bottom of their phones.

    Hearing all of the reviews been like the processor is not powerful enough, for what i would ask? I dont care about power of processing when all I do in my phone is taking pictures, sending messages, watching RUclips and social Media. I guess yeah processor matters for certain people but for the vast majority of the consumers the pixel does the same that the others. I would argue that power doesnt mater anymore. Efficiency matters a lot more, battery life, stuff like that and i can say pixel is constantly improving in those areas, yes there is still room to improve and is definitely not perfect but they're getting there. The pixels are flagships that are sell for less than the competitors and again for the average consumer the pixel does exactly the same as an iphone or a Samsung but is cheaper

      honestly I'm torn. i agree with you but also nowadays processor speed doesn't really matter because most people don't even utilize the full potential of the processor. 99% of people are buying a phone and the most hardware intensive thing they are doing is maybe shooting a 4K video. Other then that they are taking selfies, going on social media and watching RUclips videos, all of which probably only uses about 1% of the power of the processor. Too dive a little deeper into your cpu comparison I WOULDN'T say it's i3 vs i7 I would say it's more like i9 12900K vs i9 13900K. Because that is exactly what is going on. The Tensor G3 is about 1 generation behind the newest SD processor. It performs like a SD 8 Gen 1 instead of a SD 8 Gen 2 like it should.

    Ok but compare it to the phones at its price, s23+ vs pixel 8 pro, pixel has better cameras, better screen, less storage but still less expensive than the ultra model people compare it to. Base model pixel 8 is still $100 less than s23 and now has 120hz as well and arguably still better cameras. iPhone 15 pro matches the pixel 8 pro price with an overheating phone, smaller worse screen, equivalent cameras. Even tho they raised the prices, I think they still undercut the phones they compete at their price with. iPhone 15 pro max is $1200 and so is s23 ultra compared to $1060 for pixel.

    the argument that Google should charge less while not looking at Apple's gouging is hilarious. I have used both Google and Apple phones... really not much difference, EXCEPT that most of what i do uses Google or Microsoft products (for work)...and Apple, well, falls short in the EASE of use with those companies' products... I do like the apple ecosystem of hardware interoperability, but, overall, pixels are just easier and more tailorable to my needs.
    Good phones from both companies, but don't forget, they make BANK from their respective app stores and the 30% robbery from developers they BOTH charge.
