I know I've kept you waiting a long time for this (sorry!) We've spent a lot of time recently going back through all our processes, and improving each part of them. It's taken time, but you're gonna start to see: More thorough testing, editing that's less distracting and overly busy, more accurate colour grading, better quality audio across all videos etc etc etc - more to come 👀
I actually liked the "visor" on a Pixel, it gives the phone its own identity, and it makes it more recognizable. Everyone around you can tell that you're using a Pixel just by looking at the visor
As a decade-long iPhone user, I initially regretted swapping my iPhone for a Pixel. However, after some time with the Pixel, I realized it’s the phone I've been searching for. The problem with many reviews is they focus on features that aren’t relevant to 90% of users, misleading the public away from an amazing phone. Apple has drained so much money from users in various ways. In 2024, why is it that you can't easily get your photos off an iPhone or upload them to any cloud service except iCloud? This issue never gets enough attention in iPhone vs. Pixel comparisons. The organization of data in iCloud is a nightmare-finding anything when you need it is a hassle. Moreover, the iPhone’s performance issues are often glossed over. Dual SIM usage drains the battery significantly, and the battery deteriorates much faster than on the Pixel. iPhones also tend to overheat, and many apps aren’t as responsive as they should be. A phone should be like an assistant, and the Pixel excels in that regard. Stop ignoring these critical flaws in your reviews and give the Pixel the fair comparison it deserves!
how's your screen? i just tried an 8 at the store and it seemed to be not super responsive to very small touches. like there's a bit of lag. the 8 pro tho felt very responsive (comparing to my samsung s10 - which says a lot for the 8 i suppose)
@@therealshard They initially keep the phone at 60Hz, you need to change it to smooth display/120 Hz. At the stores, phones are up to date to latest software update also.
Google's call monitoring is way underrated for spam callers! The integration of everything on the pixel from your bills to your calendar are awesome in the way they remind you and keep you on top of things
The spam block is golden. Helped me pick between trading in my s22 ultra for 1k off of an s23 ultra, to trading in a pixel 5 for 1k off the Pixel 8pro making it practically free. I fkn hate spam calls being the introvert that I am.
I LOVE the Google call screening! Saves me from the decision of answering or not if I don't recognize the number. When it's a scam call, they always hang up with the screening.
I got the pixel 8 pro last Thursday, I had the Pixel 6 pro before. Battery, "smart features", smoothness and the camera got a lot better. But this stutter in the camera is freaking me out as well. I never really had a problem with heat -unlike the pixel 6- even though I'm a pretty heavy user too because of my job. Signal was always great so far (T-Mobile/Germany). I don't regret going for a pixel phone again.
@@ImOnAGoat91 I agree with you, hence why he stated that he might make a follow up video on it if they have improved. To be fair, if Google is going to have their latest flagship phone come out with feature that aren't polished enough and expects people to buy it at launch then I do hope that a reviewer like him should point that out and let people to wait it out.
The production value of this channel is light-years ahead of where it used to be. Not everyone may notice these subtle details, but those who do will absolutely love them. Shout-out to Arun and the team!!
This is the best review of the pixel 8/ pro I’ve seen so far. He went in depth on every aspect of the phone instead of just going through the features like a Google presentation.
@@Das644marques did a decent job. Maybe not that in depth but I've started seeing Arun being more biased towards Apple. Intially he wasn't but it's there if you've been watching for a long time. Marques is the same but for android
Best review my ass...he is clearly overcriticising pixel , smh apple fanboy
Год назад+6
You have to realise Marques can't readily see that a lot of features don't work outside US, or that the modem is bad, but possibly well optimized for US carriers. It's been too long everyone has been giving Google a pass on this and they seriously need to get the their s** together in this and other regards now that they're charging premium penny for these phones
This is easily one of the best most in depth reviews. Some of the stuff you mentioned I didn't even know about and didn't hear any other prominent tech youtubers talk about.
@@Jo5ue1meh, i own a pixel 8, the software is great nothing to say about, but for 750/1100 eur phone u need a decent modem and some decent specs. If you just open a random game its get laggy and begin to heat even with cold temperature, i get it its close to winter so you can warm up your hand, but damn this summer you're gonna burn lmao
You are the most detailed tech reviewer on yt. I love how you can notice every small detail that a consumer needs to know. You're the best! Keep it up.
Love how he just didn't rush to the review day and missed many important things like some other big youtubers but took his time and covered possibly everything, love you Arun ❤
But it still is funny to me how these "reviewers" are so quick to point out issues in Android phones even when there barely are any, eg this video and the s23 moon photos fiasco, but none of them dare make a video on fuck ton issues Iphone 15 series is having.
@@ManuSaraswatthat's actually true. He has some personal issues with pixel. He didn't even make the pixel event related and first impression video. Even the iPhone 15 series has nothing just type C that Android phones have that things from many years and just an action button even though that thing is there in Android from years but he acted like apple did something revolutionary whereas this year Pixel came with a lot of software feature not just with a simple action button but his title is like it has problems...
@@ManuSaraswatI agree with you on this point. The iPhone 15 series had so many problems on release but almost no big RUclipsr spoke about it or even mention a bit.
A bunch of other tech reviewers and influencers have came out and said Google barred them because they wouldn’t agree to Googles ridiculous contract now too.
Arun is a "little" bit biased towards the I phones and apple products in general, in my opinion but he is still a very thorough and knowledgeable reviewer!
I would like to say thank you Arrun and to your team for telling us not just about the older tech but the newer tech as well the attention to detail is amazing thank you to all who made these videos possible
That's an amazing constructive criticism Arun, Bravo 👏👏 as a pixel user I agree with all of these. You actually helped google to find out where they have to improve. If they do so, pixels are gonna be unbeatable
I feel this review was overly critical compared to what Arun does for other phones specifically Apple. Maybe it's me but the bias was glaring. His apple reviews are never this in-depth. People have been complaining about the 15 since it came out thermals and such but he neglected those downsides of Apple. Clearly technology isn't perfect yet but I think reviews should be fair across the board. If you choose to nitpicking every shortcoming do it across the board. I mean look at Jerryrigeverything his destruction of all phones is equal and fair no bias to any side but this was obviously leaning to one side
@@kirillt6422because Android is better in a lot of things (that are really not important for 80% of people but I'm one of the 20 that can't switch due to them)
I don't think the reason Google didn't give this guy. A phone has anything to do with his criticisms or whatever (technically it does a little but I'll explain) A lot of the pixel features are us exclusive because they are run on us-based Google servers which is likely where some of his problems with long delays come from cuz he did say in the video he's not in the US, I suspect Google has been working on getting these features rolled out on more servers around the world so that more people don't have these problems, but I don't think they're there yet. So why give the phone to someone where these features are not going to be available in their region and they're not going to be able to fairly review the phone because they are at a major disadvantage compared to any us-based customer which is where Google is selling as far as I can tell the vast majority of pixels? Is this really in Google's best interest?
This review was excellent, but also misleading, because it was not updated when Google resolved most of the issues a month later.. Regardless, this video probably has nothing to do with his issue of not being invited. The problem is he felt "entitled" to be invited to Google.. That is his presumption, and not Google's obligation, just because he has more followers. This is a bad practice to bully a company to invite you and also send you free phones.
Never knew that these magical AI features on the Pixel are such a hassle to use until your review. As software based problems, I believe Google could easily solve each and every downsides you mentioned, and the Pixel 8 Pro remains one of the best phones to get in 2023.
parts of the magic eraser is done locally but the whole new things they showed where you can move a whole person seems to be done online and is specifically locked onto the pixel 8 for some reason... As a pixel 6 user i don't see any reason to upgrade to the 8 even if i had 1100€ burning a hole in my wallet
The fact that this video carries every important detail for prospective buyers and enthusiasts is really amazing. Super excited for more educative contents coming soon to this channel🔥
This is such a good review. So much daily life, real user details which users only feel if they actually use the phone. The other reviews just feel like hardware ads at this point
@@HAWXLEADER exactly and I'm telling u he did a horrible job explaing the phone to anything near what he should be doing, and ofc the s24 will be amazing but it still just feels too out of touch for me
its nice to have one video detailed video rather than many short clips that miss out on details. this new style of review is great! it is always good to cover the problems as well... satisfying rewiew
Great vid! A lot of the issues are absolutely fair and rather objective. But, ima go on a limb and say it may be overly critical (?). Having used the P8Pro now since launch (coming from a OnePlus 7 Pro), this has been absolutely amazing and I haven't experienced any crazy heating or bugs (yet lol). That said, our use cases are very different, you're reviewing it and putting it through its paces as an enthusiast device (as you should) while I'm just a schmuck with a phone diddling around haha. I think the performance is honestly fine for your average joe out there just scrolling around. All in all, as a user of the phone I can highly recommend it to the average user that wants a more high end device. For pro-sumers/enthusiasts that want to squeeze everything from your phone, maybe look elsewhere for now. Edit: wow, this the most interaction I've ever gotten from a comment lolol 🤣
@@idaho3955most definitely. Its weird that a guy like him that knows tech is still a die hard apple fan boy. It is obvious that he has to find something bad about the pixel so he can say the iphones are still better. Kinda pathetic.
@@quesawea5142 i think it is ok to be biased towards apple, human being has preference. but dont be too much. like 2 years ago, lost of so called kols were not happy and criticized that pixel 6a is just 60hz. now after 2 years, apple's entry level new phones are still 60hz but much more expensive than the pixel a series. those with more suscribers and viewership, don't necessarily be good or produce good videos, they usually are very biasd and at the same time claim themselves unbiased. most of the famous youtubers on smartphones are apple fan boys and not good.on the contrary, i found many youtubers with fewer subscribers doing good videos.
I switched to 8 Pro from 4a 5G and it's a day and night difference. I really enjoy 8 Pro and all it's features Surprisingly, I found myself spending a lot of time generating AI wallpapers, specifically in "Painting" and "Textures" sections. First, I thought it was just a gimmick, but actually they look dope! 5x telephoto lens is very good. I compared it to my wife's 14 Pro and Pixels zoom is noticeably better, both in daytime and in night . I also used "Best take" feature for couple of my photos and it actually works well! I agree though that switching between lenses while shooting video is poor. That's my only complaint so far. Upd: since Google released Video boost feature I use it frequently. It really boosts the video when shot indoors in the dim lightning or at night. Basically, when the environment is challenging, Video boost is definitely a great option. I don't really care it has to be sent to Google's servers, although some people make a big deal out of it and want it to be processed locally on the phone.
I also have a pixel 4a5G but don't see any point to upgrade yet. My battery life is still good and I can't justify the upgrade as it still works perfectly.
Of course 4a and 8 pro would be night and day, of course mate, there's a 5, 6, 6a, 6pro, 7, 7a, 7pro, and also the 8 lol So of course it's night and day, even the prices are 😂
I'm glad you pointed out the occasional instability of your experience with the P8/P8 Pro. I figured my P7 Pro would have the issues from the P6 series ironed out, but it's been less stable than I was hoping for. Defo overhyped myself a bit, but I'm glad to see I'm not crazy, seeing similar issues are happening on P8.
I've just upgraded to a Pixel 8 Pro from a Pixel 6 Pro. I've not yet found any issues with lag or overheating and find the phone blisteringly fast. The cameras are very very good ... especially the zoom. Battery life is fine and the Google version of Android is unfussy: I love it. Your review was very comprehensive and I appreciate it, especially your comments that features are not always available in the UK which has always annoyed me. My only comment is that you are concentrating on the AI features of photography. Personally I only use these occasionally, for instance to change a grey leaden sky to something more attractive, and for this the magic editor performs just fine. For people that wish to fundamentally change the image on a phone, these features are available but a little rough: this doesn't personally affect me, although the features are there if I really needed them. Lets see what the updates bring: the Pixel 6 Pro was pretty awful at the time of release consistently dropping WiFi .. very annoying ... I haven't found anything like this with the 8. However, I think this phone has the potential to be something remarkable and I'm happy to go along for the ride!
I guess he covered the AI and their features because that's literally what they marketed the most. Also the photography limitations for resolution and optical lens is definitely a massive let down.
@@mytomtv3500No, unfortunately he is right though. My Pixel 6 has brought me nothing but problems. A trashy screen with green botches all over that are very visible when you lower the brightness, a battery that decided to swell up and endanger my life only after 1.5 years of use. A jittery display that doesn't look anywhere near 90fps, which by the way, just stopped working a few weeks ago out of nowhere and Google's repair centers told me that it isn't supported under warranty and that they'll either fix it for €200 or they can send it back unfixed. I should've listened to people when they warned me of Google. I'm tired of trying out different trash companies and I'm going back to Samsung 100%.
I'm using my Pixel 8 for a few days now. Absolutely love it, especially because I'm coming from Pixel 5. My only real grip is that it's slippery af. Seriously, I'm afraid I'll drop it every time I reach for it. I'll definitely go for a cover, no matter how much I dislike it. Have to say that it's really a very smart smartphone.
If you like that much how the phone looks, you could go for a transparent case. That's what i did! I know that over the time the case gets yellowy but if you keep it for 1 year and a half or 2 years than it is more than enough and you can buy another one. All the other more fancy cases are twice the price and yes, you won't see the back of your phone anymore.
What's the WiFi like compared to the 5, my wife has the 5 and I've got the 7 and when we are sat out in the garden she still gets a WiFi signal where mine keeps dropping out If it's similar to the 5 then I might consider upgrading as it's so frustrating
I love my Pixel 8 Pro, haven't noticed any poor performance or camera quality issues. It's also an amazing deal with the free Pixel Watch 2 for preorder and amazing trade in offers. I got mine for only $400 all in.
If I lived in the US, I would take advantage of that too. AFAIK, Google has had these sort of deals for a while now for pixel users. Unfortunately for me, I am not spending 1k+ on a phone where I live.
Its funny to see how tech youtubers review non apple smartphones, they find all the issues of every android phones whereas exhibiting apple as the perfect smart phone, i dont think apple have brought every tech youtubers but majority are on their side, reviews and presentation are good, but just know that there are people who are using android phones and they also want a good reviews about their product
@jobijoe4857 That's true.Very well said. The one biggest problem that I have with these big tech RUclipsrs is the seeming bias towards the Apple products, and I'm including Marques Brownlee on the list, along with Tim from Tech Chap. The unbiased reviewers that I follow include Tom from Tech Spurt, Flossy Carter, and Ben from Ben's gadget reviews. They are terrific.
Hats off to you Arun, What a great review. Where all other videos from different youtubers look just like the copy paste but your detailed review shows how truthful and passionate you are to your job. This is definitely one of The Best phone reviews I have ever seen. Looking forward for more such great content. You are the only one who “Pix all” the points to discuss about the device 😂👍🏼
This review was BY FAR among the most exhaustive reviews, about really important things tech reviewers must talk about, that I have ever seen. With Pixels especially, it is crucial to say - let’s reserve judgment for 3 months. And yes, it may prove to be the smartest phone ever. Or not (remember the 6?) You are the first tech reviewer to say the obvious. Well done! 👏
Reviews like this that go into such great details of almost every aspect of a new piece of tech out there are why I love watching Arun's videos. Good work, Arun! Keep it up.
Been a pixel user from the first generation all the way to the pixel 6 pro. Switched to the s23 ultra, do not regret it one bit, yes google had an amazing point and shoot, and software/ ai capabilities, but the s23 ultra is up there, powerhouse... S pen, dex, customisation, battery, camera and video is more than needed! (For me personally) My biggest gripe with pixel is lack of screen mirroring capabilities. Sucks you need a Chromecast or a tv with Chromecast built in, hell it doesnt even work with usbc to hdmi.
I find it really strange, but I'm using the 8pro now for a week and really had none of the issues you're describing. Especially all the AI stuff works extremely well. Maybe you've a bad one or feeble connection.
@@L1venAndroid animations don't give you any delay, you can interact with the phone as if they're not there, try setting animations to x5 slower and you'll see you can scroll even when the window animates. Disabling then simply makes any interaction jarring and non contextual. IMO x0.5 is the way to go if you want speed.
@@HAWXLEADER why would I. I just get annoyed by them. When I switch tabs or apps I dont need some fancy ass animations. I want it to switch instantly. Why? Because you can use the phone more efficiently.
A lot of these issues seem very minor and I haven't noticed any of these things while using mine for 2 weeks now. The Pixel 8 Pro is a beast and I'm loving every moment of it. I also believe expectations play a major role in this as well. Coming from a Galaxy A53 to a Pixel Pro is a massive leap in everything so of course I'm more pleased with what I have. I can't imagine the average user looking at these negatives and thinking that it makes a huge difference. I bet a lot of these issues will be patched up.
Haha reading is reassuring. I myaelf have a A53 and have ordered a pro 8 , took a leap coz live in Morocco had to order from France though family... what about Magic Eraser, games and phone getting hot
@@saadbenbenabslam5176 I personally don't game or do high intense activities on my phone so I haven't had any heating issues. Still, it's an electronic device, they are bound to heat up and get warm. Ive own multiple gaming computers over the years and no matter what you do they always get warm or hot. If the issue or any other problem gets to be to noticable Google will patch it.
mrwhoistheboss Iphone: suspiciously good/better than you think Pixel: problems? not saying the videos are bad but these titles do tends to divert people and kinda shows that you are more positive towards iphones.
wow, now that was a great review, wish you did other items, very in depth review without being complicated or boring , maybe you should do tutorials on how to do reviews , im not a very patient man but i watched the whole thing before i noticed i watched the whole thing lol.
He was referring to the standard Pixel 8. The standard also has the same 50MP main camera lens, but you cannot use it in full resolution since it's lacking the Pro mode on the camera app.
I have a pixel 6a and while ive never had the latest and greatest phone i find that even with its limitations my 6a is more than enough for what I need. I really like my phone and i would love to have the 8 or 8 pro. I dont care too much about video quality for me its more about photos.
I also have 6a! I feel like day to day the photos are good enough, definitely better than any flagship that I've owned in the past. But overall the phone is just really boring and average, I might want to switch to OnePlus 12 just for all the specs on paper.
@@cesarsilva2282 I am with mine but I would still love to have the 8. One of the main reasons why is because OS updates are only supported until 2025 which isn't too far away. Also it seems like a really good phone
I feel like the pixel 8 is an amazing phone depending on your needs. It has half decent gaming performance, an amazing camera, and the best software, and all at 700-750 dollars. I bought one because I needed an upgrade because I am still using an s20 until it arrives. My S20 has pro camera settings, but I never use them even for youtube videos
You are gonna love it. I switched from Samsung to 6pro and now 8 pro, I am never going back to Samsung. Sure you get more raw power with snapdragon, but for daily use pixel is always super smooth in my experience, and so far pixel 8 pro is the best. What many RUclipsrs mentioned briefly or simply fail to mention, but super awesome feature include, text to speech, translation, spam call filter, . This is a phone after all, and the smartest smartphone on earth. So unless you are really into hardcore gaming on your cellphone (you really should just get a console and play on OLED TV for immersive experience anyway)....I honestly think this is the best phone on the market (unless you can't get away from iOS ecosystem, then iPhone pro max)
I think part of the problem Google has is a lot of their features are us exclusive for various reasons. So giving the phone to someone who isn't in the US can create some problems for their us buyers who don't fully comprehend that. Just because this person is complaining about these features doesn't mean they'll have a problem, also, when he was complaining about some of the interactive stuff near the end of the complaining section of this video to my eye as someone who's using a pixel 7A that did not look like actual problems, those looked at least a little fabricated or exaggerated. If this guy was in the US I think I'd have a much bigger problem with Google not giving him a phone but he's not So his review is always going to be limited compared to US individuals
Great Content Arun! Been a follower since your early videos your team and you as a person and creator have grown so much now I show your videos to my kids 😂. Keep up the good work, really waiting for a One UI 6 review!
It's been a blast getting to watch your channel evolve over time and I sincerely thank you for your very in-depth videos over the years and how much more in depth they are getting.
Its crazy no matter how uninteresting new iPhone gets, he always finds way to say it's worth buying or like it's the best thing ever, and it never happens with other brands.
@@azeemuddinkhan923, sometimes it's better not to get the review unit. A review of a real user unit is always closer to real-life user experience. I got one of the 8 Series at launch, & I can identify with some of the issues he's mentioned. The phone is still very good overall, & still ahead of its competitors in some areas, but as a non-US user, it IS disappointing that few reviews point out that some of the keynote features are only available in a very select list of markets, so much so that the Pixel seems more like a Google enthusiast's phone rather than one that is attempting to win new fans.
I don't know why apple products aren't criticised enough. I have seen youtubers justifying the notch. I have watched people doing graphics stress test on iPhones and pixels this year where iPhone goes about 4 degrees higher than pixel. But these youtubers made video to show iPhones don't heat up while those same youtubers are going hard on pixels heating. Arun mentioned that you can apply blur even after you have clicked the photo on iPhone because it stores the depth info while totally sidelining the same feature of applying blur after clicking in Google photos. Speakers have been traditionally better on pixels. People won't mention. Haptics are traditionally better on pixel they won't talk about it. Pixels are better at photos then just talk about videos because those are better on iPhone. You can store as many photos as you want clicked from your pixel on free cloud storage but no one mentions it.
Your reviews are generally awesome but this one is another level and a good reminder why I subscribed to you in the first place. After watching so many reviews for pixel 8 series, this was the one that helped me make a decision 😬
The effort and consistency that this dude is putting in videos is so good that its 11 pm here and im up watching this guy's video that just released. Keep it up😊
You've hit hard on the gripes I have with the Pixel series. A definitive Pixel review, for which I'd like you to follow up with a second review after the December updates. Because then we'll actually see how much Google delivered compared to the launch presentation.
I got it a week ago and every single thing you mentioned is exactly what's bothering me and your review is very well thought out and explained. Thank you
Quite a thorough review that touches upon points other reviewers tend to gloss over or ignore. I never thought I'd see any reviewer deep dive into the limitations of Pixel cameras given how universally lauded they are. Helpful!
Your videos are unbelievable. The editing and the writing is very impressive. I can only imagine how much work goes into it behind the scenes. Great stuff..

great video. just one complaint, the restrictions that google is applying for P8 is valid but i didn't see you bashing iPhone 15 for not having AOD or latest usb speed. When it comes to apple, everyone becomes a lot less critical
Thats maybe because they all use their products in daily life and sometimes a person gets biased towards the device they are using for a long period or if their friends family and people around them are constantly praising it like a god and also apple does spend a lot of money to call these reviewers and arrange an extravagant parties after launch Google also call them but only on google IO event and no fancy after parties or free buisness class flight tickets
@@chessopediaacademy1159 don't agree with the money part but yeah somewhat personal bias is definately there. And also I'm a pixel fan, using 6a but couldn't agree more with the statement that iPhones seem like a finished product.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this video and I’ve already bought the phone and I don’t have a lot of the gripes that you have with this phone at the moment. It has definitely stepped up in terms of thermals compared to the seven Pro, and it feels more fluid compared to the seven pro. With that said, I do know that the phone will have its drawbacks in the future and I do hope that the updates that we are looking for it does get implemented but I love these cameras I love this software I love this phone.
Thank you for your honesty. It's good to hear about the good and bad. There are so many untrustworthy reviews out there. Will now check out your other reviews.
Great video. Hopefully a lot of these issues will get fixed soon. I'm on the Pixel 5 and will probably move to the 8 if there are decent Black Friday deals. The Pro is just too big for me. PS loved the frying pan in the pan mode section 😂
I’ve probably seen ALL pixel 8 pro reviews of whole RUclips and this is the first one where I feel completely and honestly informed, especially about all its drawbacks. Thanks for that 🙌🏻
Thank you for getting more in depth with the software, its little animations and details; it's what I enjoy the most of using phones- a ui that feels organic and material (the bulletproof smoothness and animations is what will probably keep me in iOS forever) and without videos like yours I probably would never get to see the stuff Android is doing. Great review overall!
This is such a good review. So much daily life, real user details which users only feel if they actually use the phone. The other reviews just feel like hardware ads at this point
Actually iOS isn't as smooth as you think, an iPhone 11 is much more stuttery than my Oneplus 6 which is older. My OP6 is superior in all ways imaginable(especially the camera) Yes, iphone 13 14 15 are smooth. But it's because they're bonkers fast, not because of iOS. Though ios does have great animations overall but it is damn heavy.
Nobody, I repeat Nobody notices the little thing like he does, even the guys at Google never thought he will notice those little things like the back slide and the unlock animations. YOU HAVE MY RESPECT BROTHER❤
Didnt expect a general positive praise for the pixel 8 from Arun lol if not all most people should expect this by now but again lets wait and see if his viewpoints will change or not as time goes . but overall great production as usual !!!👍👍
@@Jo5ue1bro stop spreading hate. Pretty useless. I do find some of the points he says are bad but some cannot be ignored. Comparing it to apple is not a bad thing because the pixel is a flagship and its competition is samsung and apple.
I feel like that most of these problems will be fixed after launch. I can attest to this having daily driven a Pixel 7 Pro for a while now and have had basically zero problems. And I have even daily driven beta software. Nor have I experienced any issues that others have had (like thermals) nor other kinds of problems.
Could you tell what the problems mentioned in this video are ? I just got a 8 pro and I'm curious but not enough to watch a 22min video. Thanks if you take the time to reply
When it comes to tech, I'm very picky, I went from Nexus 6 to Pixel 2XL. Least year I wanted to upgrade to Pixel 7 Pro, seemed fair, but now after watching this review I should finally let go of the 2XL and get the 8 Pro. The only thing that the 8, 7, 6... are missing it's the back fingerprint reader.
As far as I can tell, the pixel 7 Pro that I'm using right now does most things pretty well without much issue. Yes, there are still bugs but they're minor most of the time, and it's no more buggy-feeling than the typical iPhone. It seems like the pixel 8 line has ignored most of the things that have plagued the previous pixels, such as battery life, thermals, raw performance, efficiency, and speech recognition. Especially with that last one. I'm having a hard time getting the pixel to understand me all the time even with basic terms like "lagginess." I seriously wish Google would take into account accents and how people speak regularly, as in how I speak is different than how someone else speaks to the same language. So Google this year went with extraneous features. That are amazing of course, but have not solved most of the core issues that people care most about, which is a bummer.
You can do a voice match with the assistant..I had to do this 3times since getting the phone on launch to now but it pretty much fixed that issue..plus now my gf can barely use voice commands on it so it really does tailor to it's user as long as you are patient enough to set it up and let the machine learning do it's thing.
My only criticism of the phone is the chipset, or optimisation. Whichever is responsible for the little stutters and lag I find in most apps. I came from a Samsung with an 8+ gen 1 and everything ran silky smooth. I wish they'd just stuck a snapdragon in it. Especially seeing as all the computational stuff seems to run on remote servers anyway. I'm hoping it's an optimisation thing and it'll improve but I don't hold out too much hope. Everything else about the phone is great and I absolutely love the pixel version of Android. It's so well designed. Also the haptics are first time I've found something that matches iPhones taptic engine.
It's so weird how many people have no stutters and others do. I do have apps freezing from time to time(chrome sometimes won't let me scroll, but I can interact with the URL and tabs buttons), but that seems to be uncommon and only in select apps).
Yeah, the little stutters are definitely there on many apps. Feels like a midrange device when that happens, and I don't see Google acknowledging any of these issues.

Would so badly love to see a video about sony xperia 1 V and 5 V like this one. So far it helped me to make a decision of going Pixel again or not! Good Work =)
Well nowadays PPL "Content Creators" on RUclips doesn't seem to criticize it much when it comes to Iphones The iPhone 15 and 15 pro has so many differences, display, chip, camera functions and much more but still, all them shamelessly adore how great the apple has done their work. And blah blah. When it comes to Android or say pixel. They offer almost tye same hardware and display but still they'd criticize or say something about it which we as a tech enthusiast don't like.... Apple doesn't offer high refresh hertz display on non pro models but. But still bluntly ignore the fact It's such a shame to see how these people treat the smartphones very differently based upon the repo of the company's product for which they are letting us know

Hey, I think there's a high chance you'd like the info I've shared in videos on this topic. There's a lot of unique information nobody has shared! I'd love to listen to your feedback!
Fantastic review, Arun! First Pixel 8/8 Pro review that hasn't gushed about everything and had nothing bad to say about it. I had a severe case of FOMO and was considering buying at launch ($1600 for the 8 here in NZ), but I think I will wait. The photo/video features that need that permanent connection aren't going to be overly useful to me. I don't use data when I am out and about, the 4/5g is spotty, and I tend to turn all connections off when I'm not using them to save battery, get some peace etc. The other thing about the new picture and video features having to be used while online or uploaded is privacy. I'm not sure about the pictures, but you said the videos need to be uploaded, Google will improve them, then send you back an improved version. Copyright, privacy and data leaks become concerns as soon as you upload something to anything online. And what is Google doing with your data? You can never be 100% sure. With new technology comes new concerns and it feels like we're putting our trust in companies that are there to make money as a priority, not protect the consumer.
THANK YOU for covering signal issues. My P7 and P7P had major signal reliability issues. I wanted to like the Pixel so much, and I did like so many aspects, but none of that mattered if I couldn’t reliably communicate with people (dropped calls, dropped text messages, phone sending ppl strait to voicemail, etc.). I hate to say it but reliability of the fundamentals is where Apple thrives.
I have 6 pro and had same issues. I am using apple now and it’s reliable. I miss 6 pro but the screen and network reliability sucks. I don’t know whether they shifted to Qualcomm modems on 8 pro.
I actually thought about switching to the Pixel 8 Pro from my S23 Ultra, but I decided the drawbacks aren't worth it. Great, high quality content as usual!

Thanks for the review arun!❤❤ You have covered basically everything and most things other reviewers missed. 7 years of software support is alot and after a year when the price drops and this device goes on sale it will still have 6 years left. Thats crazy! As you said all the features that google promised are software and processing that happens on their servers, not on the device itself. Hope google sticks with their promise.

@@eurekaflowsits 2023, nobody cares about Apple/Android wars anymore...except 12 year old kids. Move on.
Why does it matter if people know what type of phone you have? Sounds kind of vain honestly.
Thank you i was debating if I should get one
how's your screen? i just tried an 8 at the store and it seemed to be not super responsive to very small touches. like there's a bit of lag. the 8 pro tho felt very responsive (comparing to my samsung s10 - which says a lot for the 8 i suppose)
I love that also. I don't hear the phone ring when my phone is not in use. ❤
The spam block is golden. Helped me pick between trading in my s22 ultra for 1k off of an s23 ultra, to trading in a pixel 5 for 1k off the Pixel 8pro making it practically free. I fkn hate spam calls being the introvert that I am.
@@bigmemphismook9019 wait, wut? where did you get $1k for pixel 5 trade in?

There's literally adaptive call screening and reminders on samsung.

Lose a sponsor, win the internet!

@@Mrwhosetheboss hi mate. I am team iPhone. I have a iPhone 14 and I don’t find the battery all that great. what would you recommend?
This review was BY FAR among the most exhaustive reviews, about really important things tech reviewers must talk about, that I have ever seen. With Pixels especially, it is crucial to say - let’s reserve judgment for 3 months. And yes, it may prove to be the smartest phone ever. Or not (remember the 6?) You are the first tech reviewer to say the obvious. Well done! 👏
It's a fire phone
Holding in hand no dog in the fight but have had many phones
Pixel 6a is an amazing phone though
It's not. Flossy Carter is better
(For me personally)
My biggest gripe with pixel is lack of screen mirroring capabilities. Sucks you need a Chromecast or a tv with Chromecast built in, hell it doesnt even work with usbc to hdmi.
That's my biggest gripe as well but I only used that feature like once a year
I find it really strange, but I'm using the 8pro now for a week and really had none of the issues you're describing. Especially all the AI stuff works extremely well. Maybe you've a bad one or feeble connection.

Its because Pixels are a hit or miss. For some, they work flawlessly. For others, they're a headache.
The animations on the Pixels are so fluid, they might just be enough to make me forget all the other imperfections and switch to it
The best fluidity on any smart phone!
I always disable every single animation when I get new phone 😂 I dont like any delay, I dont care if it fluid or not it still gives feel of latency.
@@L1ven dude, me too... no animation scale 😂

If you go into camera -> photo settings -> Pro (on the Pixel 8 Pro), you can change from 12MP to 50MP ...love your videos btw :)
@Umar_Akmal96bro what?🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did you watch the video at all? He showed that exact feature.
He was referring to the standard Pixel 8. The standard also has the same 50MP main camera lens, but you cannot use it in full resolution since it's lacking the Pro mode on the camera app.
@Umar_Akmal96here comes bhikaristan paki
He said Pixel was taking 12MP while iPhone was taking 24MP. So here is how you change to 50MP.

Idc what this dude says. Pixel is so much better than Samsung
The speech recognition alone is enough to get this phone. It's really unbelievable and on device
@@atetraxx I agree on paper but I'll have to see.
@taap.on.my.pic790I just purchased my Pixel 8 and am upgrading from my S20 FE. I hope it's a really good upgrade.
If this is the review that irked Google so much that they stopped inviting you from the Pixel unveiling event, so be it.
He feels entitled to be invited to Google party, because he has large following, and then he pressures Google to give him free phones, crybaybee.
True. He highlights the "drawbacks" and glosses over the good stuff.
Probably didn't got the review unit from Google and maybe that's why his video is late and he goes hard on Google
Its very disappointing. its clearly his very biased. how can you honestly dub a theme of your review as "problems" really!!
After reading your tweet on X about not getting an inviteto the 2024 pixel 9 lunch, I have to come back to this video . If you're like me 👍

great video. just one complaint, the restrictions that google is applying for P8 is valid but i didn't see you bashing iPhone 15 for not having AOD or latest usb speed.

You realized how many times he reviewed the IPHONE 15 series this year?... 3 times
It's actually not that much bigger than a regular version on the 8 just probably less than half of inch more of screen
@@kakakay6566 I've got too used to the nice compact Pixel 5 😉 Also not sure it's worth the extra £300.
My OP6 is superior in all ways imaginable(especially the camera)
Yes, iphone 13 14 15 are smooth.
But it's because they're bonkers fast, not because of iOS.
Though ios does have great animations overall but it is damn heavy.

😅
What did you have before the 7? Are you happy with the camera particularly selfies in low light?
This review is WELL worth the wait! Thank you so much! I do hope Google is listening to this review.
Well from 2025, tsmc will be making the pixel chips and not Samsung. 😊
Yeah, the little stutters are definitely there on many apps. Feels like a midrange device when that happens, and I don't see Google acknowledging any of these issues.
@@nickythompson5597Is "tsmc" an abbreviation? I don't know what that means 😿
@pylotheric9777 TSMC is a manufacturing brand. They make CPUs for AMD, Apple, Qualcomm, and GPUs for AMD and Nvidia. Samsung and Intel are the other two popular chip fab companies with Samsung making the Tensor G3.
Great review with a lot of important details and nuances which other reviewers often miss 👍
Would so badly love to see a video about sony xperia 1 V and 5 V like this one. So far it helped me to make a decision of going Pixel again or not! Good Work =)
Well nowadays PPL "Content Creators" on RUclips doesn't seem to criticize it much when it comes to Iphones
The iPhone 15 and 15 pro has so many differences, display, chip, camera functions and much more but still, all them shamelessly adore how great the apple has done their work. And blah blah.
When it comes to Android or say pixel. They offer almost tye same hardware and display but still they'd criticize or say something about it which we as a tech enthusiast don't like....
Apple doesn't offer high refresh hertz display on non pro models but. But still bluntly ignore the fact
It's such a shame to see how these people treat the smartphones very differently based upon the repo of the company's product for which they are letting us know
Love your videos, you helped me understand phones alot better and I myself started doing IT courses in school. Now all my friends and family come to me when they want to know something about their phone or what phone they need to buy when they upgrade.

Just love the way how Arun deliver these videos, really interesting and at the same time all the information you are looking for.❤
