  • Elsie Morison 1924-2016 was an Australian operatic soprano. She won the Dame Nellie Melba Scholarship in 1945, and the Queen's Prize at the Royal College of Music, London in 1947.
This is a recording of Elsie Morison singing in Huddersfield Town Hall, England with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1959, Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting his third of four recordings of Handel's Messiah, and the famous Huddersfield Choral Society.
'Come Unto Him' is the last Air in the Novello Vocal Score Part 1 of the Messiah.
    EARLY STEREO.
Sir Malcolm Sargent is using the Novello Vocal Score, from the early and mid 20th century-------my favourite!
ENJOY A BLAST FROM THE PAST. :)
In 1963, Elsie Morison married the Czech conductor Rafael Kubelík, and decided to retire from performing. She did sing occasionally post-retirement.
She died in Prague in 2016,aged 91 years.
A clean, warm-voiced soprano with exemplary diction, British cultural commentator Norman Lebrecht described her as having a “quietude and humility that is rare among great artists.”
This full Messiah is available on CDs.

What a gorgeous rendition of this work. I feel that many can find peace from listening to Elsie’s superlative essay of this aria.

Elsie Morison is one of my favourite sopranos- always beautiful tone and always expressive.
