Thank you so much for this video, first video ive seen where the interior noise is shown at regular speeds. After have it for a while now, did it ever annoy you at any point (even with the res)? And would you say that camera audio did the interior noise justice? Thanks
@@TheNok610 yeah the reason i want a loud catback is bc i dont really want a dp (since it means id have to go stage 2). Im mainly worried about drone + annoying neighbours super early in the morning
@@bossman1744 the audio was fairly true to what it sounds like in the interior. It wasn't obnoxiously loud, but it screams when you step on it. If you're concerned about your neighbors, the resonator will tame it down a bit, but just stay easy on the gas in your neighborhood. You should be fine.
I have the S-Type without resonator on my 2021 and in some cases it gets super loud and really hits at 3k rpm even when I’m not getting on it hard. I’m heavily looking into getting the Borla resonator to try and get rid of this effect as I want the overall tone to be smooth and not change so much depending on revs. From your experience, do you recommend the resonator and do you think it will help address this weird loudness/drone effect I get at 3k rpm? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen your comments on forums too and appreciate that you have one of the only vids with resonator.
I'm glad the video can provide you some idea of what to expect. As long as you have your stock dp, you should be ok with the Borla resonator. The drone won't be as bad and it was tolerable until I switched out to a high flow catted dp. Just be aware, the car will still be loud when you step on it. If you have a reputable shop, the Vibrant 17950 would be your best bet. It's so much better than Borla's resonator.
@@TheNok610 yeah I saw that you switched when you got a dp. I plan on keeping the stock dp. I’m leaning towards the Borla resonator because I’m worried that the vibrant would make it too quiet for me and I don’t want to cut it. I’d rather install myself. I do want it to be loud when I get on it, but I want it to be quieter and less droney in the situation I described and slightly more muted overall. So I’m trying to figure out if the borla res will at least do that.
Reading through the comments, you said there was drone in the cabin at cruising speeds? I've been looking at this exhaust for like 2 years, a lot of people say there's no drone (including Borla), yet a lot of people say there IS drone. At what speeds/RPM do you notice the drone? Also, how's the sound and drone after the resonator? I have a 2017 MK7.
Everyone's perception to drone is different as some can tolerate it more than others. With that said, without the resonator, there was definite drone at around 2 - 2.5K RPM's and usually cruising around 65 to 70 MPH. With the resonator, it's there, but greatly reduced and more tolerable. I only lasted a month without the resonator because it was too much for me. The resonator tames it down but once you step on it, it gets loud. The way I see it, with resonator, tolerable daily driver that deepens the tone and roars when you step on it. Without resonator, loud 24/7 race car / annoy neighbors.
As quiet at the stock exhaust sounded, the Borla was too loud without resonator. I tried to run it without the resonator for a few weeks, but personally began to annoy me as to how loud it was. Volume and tone is greatly acceptable with the resonator installed.
@@mumbojumbo159 Even though Borla claims zero drone, it was there. If you install the exhaust yourself, do it without the resonator so you can see for yourself. I didn't buy the resonator at first to see if I could save money and enjoy it as is.
I just got my resonator installed as well. It's much nicer. I don't think I can daily drive without it. It's a little bit annoying when without a resonator, especially when going up hill and engine is keeping at around 2300 RPM.
Aside from the angle we had lol, how are cold starts? I had a borla axel back on my previous Mazda 3, then removed the resonator and it got suuuper loud, lol. Drone was def there around 70 mph. Loved the borla sounds so I kinda wanna stick with them now that I have a GTI.
Cold starts with the resonator is a little loud but nothing crazy. I have no complaints and anyone else who's been in my car hasn't said anything about it.

I have swapped out systems for a while now. This system is nice as long as you keep the factory downpipe.

You have a Downpipe Catles?
At that time, it was the OEM downpipe. I now have the ARM catted do, but haven't had a chance to get that on video.

To me...yes! I think it's too loud and gets annoying fast without it.
