Puerto Rico has been calling out name ever since we last left, and it's sure good to be back! Checking out the competition at 2018's Puerto Rico 1/2 Mile event, we ran into this unsuspecting V8 destroying Volkswagen Golf R. At a glance we had no idea we were about to witness the fastest Golf R in Puerto Rico take down some big V8 players! Watching this stout 600+hp Turbo 4-Cylinder VW take off down the track so smoothly was equal parts shocking as it was satisfying! We're glad to see the R Golf community making more and more appearances at racing events, and we hope that trend continues!

People don't see the beauty in a clean simplistic design. They want something incredibly aggressive looking like an STI or a Type R. That's what makes the MK7s such amazing sleepers

The Golf 7R is a masterpiece. That 2.0 has so much potential... guys like APR are getting some reliable power out of them in various stages. My favourite call for sure! Cheers.
I daily drive a 400hp S3. It's given me zero problems in my 30k modded miles.

Those Golf R's with DSG are no joke. I raced one running 500+bhp on my Aprilia tuono 1100 and upto 80-90mph there weren't much in it. They put the power down fantastic
With either tranny, in gear the manual is actually a bit quicker.
The impressive part is he pulling towards the end. usually AWD doesn't benefit towards the upper mph, but this shows you what the 2.0 TFSI engine can do.

Volkswagen just gapped a 906 hp Hellcat, amazing.
Golf R is a very under rated car. With a UM tune its faster than my buddy's stock E55 and that thing is quick! So basically for $1300 u get close to a 100 extra hp. Not bad for 10 minutes of programming.
I've owned three different gen GTI's (all tuned) and now I'm in a stage 2 mk 7.5 Golf R... I will tell you that this thing is an absolute beast. It's an AWD Porsche 718 with two extra doors and a hatchback.
Finally the MK7s get some 1320 video features I’ve been trying to tell people they’re quick
They really are. Vw got this engine right. The current mqb platform is great so easy to make power with no alot of work

@@scottleighton9149 425 WTQ is the max i did before i built the motor, it definitely was getting slower, not by much though, 0.3 secs in 1/4, both R and GTI, Fully forged is a myth they will both blow when playing with 430+ torque, if not instantly, eventually
There's no chill with that vw at all, hell even at idle, you'd just want to say nah, have a good race 🤣🤣
it‘s crazy how here in Europe, when being at almost any custom cars event where drag racing takes part too, everyone with super cars or just any sports cars gulps the moment they see any hatchback, which has looks those of almost sleeper or anything that says: “I own a tiny little hatchback with almost no exterior change whatsoever, because what I have spent my money on, is under the bonnett, something that will give you nightmares...” by this I mean that I have seen a lot of Volkswagens, Fiats, Opels, etc with engines that cause instant goosebumps

well it's not all about power-weight ratio. There's also the torque, the tires/traction, the drivetrain/trans, aero etc.

Yeah, a fully built 2 liter with all racing parts and 40+lbs of boost and still couldn't beat an almost stock ZL1. Put as much money into the ZL1 and it would be in the low 8 second range. Lmao
Best part about this is that the VW owner was super nice and really all he wanted was to see what his car could do

That’s amazing it’s only 640hp. What if it had like 800hp. Wow! Amazing times for car enthusiasts. You have cars coming out of the dealer with over 600 hp like the Hellcat and 4 cylinders with turbos that can do 10 sec 1/4 miles like the Rs3 audi and the golf R stage 3

Its not all about horse power anymore. Power to weight ratio, aerodynamics and power transfer n distribution including suspension also a big factor today.

Suspension has nothing to do with drag racing. May a tiny bit but mostly traction, power and weight. American engineering is a joke.

People sleep on those Volkswagens. The 2.0 Liter motor and the 2.5 have so much potential. It’s satisfying seeing a 4 cylinder gap V8’s if you were to put a ZL1 against an RS3 with a hybrid turbo it’s game over.
ut's never about the engine capacity but the turbo size and finally how the engine uses it's power for the Aston martin valykrie cosworth built a 6.5L v12 BUt before this they made i believe either a 1.6L to 2L version that made 300hp that shows it's not about the displacement anymore
V8's have more potential and make additional power much cheaper. CAI, e85 and tune add 100+hp and still NA
Get a good driver in the hellcat lol, and let see this stock. Also a upgraded hellcat would be unfair.

@@glennfalzo3718 Most cars with engines smaller than a V8 or even a V6 aren't meant to accelerate quickly, meaning the engineers aren't thinking about competing in a drag race when they design an L4 vehicle no matter how "sporty" it is.

Apr has some running 9s with their 15,000 stage 3. They are fairly common in the u.s. but obviously not in Puerto Rico

Golf R's, at least this generation since it's not with an NA VR6, now I like the VR6 but NA is for the birds. Stock internals can run 10's with turbo upgrade. 9's with a built engine and upgraded transmission assuming it's a DSG.
EuroHouse shop already had tune another Golf R with STOCK internal/DSG amd is runing 10.6sec in the 1/4 mile
