After prescribed high dosages of Vitamin D and going out in the sun for 45 minutes a day (even with sunscreen), these symptoms have greatly diminished. Also, I am not sure if there is sufficient research to back this up, but taking TURMERIC (curcumin) with many of my vitamins has greatly helped my health. Most times, nature is the nurture!
I was so sick from my vitamin D deficiency that my doctor did all this blood work and we couldn't figure out what it was.. Finally my doctor called a psychologist (they thought I was depressed but I know my own body and I wasn't) and thankfully he recommended that we test my vitamin D.. Thank god he did because it was less than half of what it was supposed to be. I'm finally back up to a healthy level but my doctor still recommended that I continue taking 5,000 units a day because I'm no where near to much. Get your vitamin D checked!

My immune system is extremely strong. I went for my annual physical is when I was informed that I was Vitamin D3 deficient, I had know idea no symptoms that I was aware of.
Dr. Axe, I appreciate all of your help and the information you give has really been life changing for me. I have one request though...when you talk about things like getting in the sun to increase the amount of Vitamin D in our system, would you please include the fact that it may take longer than 20 to 30 minutes for people of color to absorb the needed amount of sunlight and helpful suggestions for us too. Thanks a lot.
That certainly can be a challenge and therfore even more important to keep a check on your levels and supplement accordingly with d3 and k2 ..even though I am light skinned I have a hard time keeping my d levels up to par so I have to supplement 10k iu s daily with k2 ..It's a struggle 🙃
Thanks for clarifying. Buying vitamins can be confusing with all the various choices. You know you need them...but often times I'm in the aisle like "Hun?" Thanks Dr. Axe!

Thank you for making this, my doctor said to look into Vitamin D deficiency. I'm an indoor person so I don't get enough sunlight at all. I'm very pale 😅
It’s very ok to be pale (I am, too), but try to eat a balanced, healthy diet and go and walk for exercise. Dermatologists have people cautious & paranoid about going outside without using sunscreen or sunblock. A dermatologist told me to use it even if I’m outside for only 20 minutes. I only use it if I’m at the beach. If the weather permits i usually spend an hour to an hour and a half a day outside jogging.

Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 both convert to the same active form. The difference is that D2 breaks down quickly in the system whereas D3 remains very much longer. But your advice on the dosage of Vtramin D is absolutely correct, unlike some other RUclips doctors. Also note that a function of Vit D is to convert calcium into strengthening bones. But in the elderly it deposits calcium on blood vessel linings. To correct this and have the calcium go toward bone strength, Vitamin K2 will correct the problem.
@@MattSamson83 Hi Matt. You need to be careful with high doses, as if high enough, there may be a risk of causing problems. I know directly that 10,000 IU of D3 is safe (although unnecessary, unless you have an extraordinary demand on D3 in your system). I can't advise if there are potential issues with your D2 dose, but it's probably OK. Remember, I'm not a doctor, but have the formal training to give intelligent, informed and unbiased comments. You should consider that while taking doses higher than the commonly recommended ones (which are usually minimum recommended dosage) there is both no point in taking too much over the most effective dose, because it's a wasted effort as you are gaining no extra benefit, and also the unused extra quantity may possibly head you toward unwanted peripheral issues. The problem is, with many vitamins, there can be disagreement over minimum effective dose/most useful and effective dose/maximum safe dose i.e., the level above which unwanted/potentially harmful side effects may occur. So, while I think you are OK, ir's unlikely you need that much of either, and tread warily with high doses. As with many things, you approach a point where "more ain't necessarily better".
@@MattSamson83 If you are taking that amount you should get tested at least twice a year to make sure you arent overdoing it. You can have too much vitamin D.
I go out in the sun every day shirtless. Also, if you are having hair shedding (not male pattern baldness), you may be Vitamin D deficient and going out in the sun can stop it fairly fast.
Have a water filter, drink from non plastic cup or glass always. Take a good supplement. I take Source of life, vitamins from fruits and vegetables with meals. Buy organic food. Take sunlight for 20 minutes at day. Get a goodnight sleep , if you can't ,try lavender oil on a diffuser before going to bed. Have a positive actitud.
Me 2 There are glass water bottles with a rubber case around it. They are sold everywhere. (Target, Walmart, the internet...) The cases come in a variety of colors. I got rid of all my plastic food containers. I’m doing like my grandma did and using canning jars, and my glass cookware sets with lids. It’s made a world of difference. If I have to take food to an event I just get the cheep foil ones at the store. Cook my food in it and take it to the event. I come home empty handed because I don’t need my dish back.
Dr. Axe , thank for your talk. Before I am very scared of sunlight. Now I also have vitamin D because I was lack of sunlight because of my bones. Good advise.

It really should be known to all black people, that they likely have low vitamin D. Its something every doctor should tell them about, and test them for. A high percentage of white people even have it.
So glad I watched your video. I was just diagnosed with D deficiency. I am was just prescribed 50,000 UI of Vitamin D3 once a week. With follow up with primary care physician in two months. The interesting part of your video was taking the fat soluble vitamin with coconut oil for better absorption. Which had not been stated in any of the videos I have watched. I have never used coconut oil. Yesterday I went searching for solutions to treat my dog's dermititis. I keep coming across organic coconut oil. I went out and bought coconut oil. Now that I watched your video. I don't think buying coconut oil was a accident. Apparently I need it just as much as my dog does. Thanks for the video.
My vitamin D levels are at a 13 and I take my D3 vitamins which are 50,000 units TWICE a week. After I finish that prescription i’ll be needing to take 2,000 units everyday. I had been having a few symptoms like fatigue, migraines, muscle pain in my legs and shoulders, hair loss and since I was a child I was always prone to viruses. I was also diagnosed with major depression and anxiety disorder with in the same week of getting my Vitamin D results. When it comes to “sun exposure” I’m only able to be out in the sun for a short period of time ESPECIALLY during the summer (I have a dark complexion) because my body becomes dehydrated so easily, I’m constantly having to drink water. Although, since is is the winter time, I try to be out in the sun as much as I can since the sun actually feels good when it’s cold! I’ve been on my supplements for about a good month now and I’ve seen major progress with my moods. It’s always good to go to the doctor to get checked when you feel something is not right about yourself! Also clean eating helps a lot too! But if your like me with low levels eating fish and being in the sun isn’t always the cure.
What else do you take with your vitamens and how are you feeling ??? Going threw this to i have a dark skin complection um going threw all that you named!!!

Also, I am not sure if there is sufficient research to back this up, but taking TURMERIC (curcumin) with many of my vitamins has greatly helped my health. Most times, nature is the nurture!
this dude just cured everything wrong with me
I was so sick from my vitamin D deficiency that my doctor did all this blood work and we couldn't figure out what it was..
Hi, what kind of symptom were you having btw. As I have vitamin D deficiency. And have metal problem.. I e anxiety, stress, panic, fear etc. Just wondering if that can be the cause. That's all my blood work showed, was vitamin D deficiency. Thanks.
yes! I am on medication for my mental illness and i have been very stable for the past two years.. i defintly felt a change in mu body when i started taking vitamin D. I was ALWAYS tired. Ive never been so tired in my life. i felt like flu like sick all the time.. It felt like my body was just slowing down more and more everyday. When i started taking the vitamin i got energy and i also didnt get sick after i ate. I think it can be diferent for other people
+FlyingMonkies325 hi hon
Try testing for polycystic ovarian syndrome and also check your prolactin levels and don't forget your vitamins D test.
Good luck !!

I lived in mediterrenean my whole life, Greece Turkey Israel Lebanon. Moved to Sweden, no sun, always dark... Shitty and for two years studied indoors, got really sick, felt much better back in Greece again. Sun. Is. Life. 🙌
It's why we love being out side. We feel good doing out side activities!
I agree with the mental health symptom. I recently started taking H&B 25um and my mental has been improved dramatically. I haven't felt like this for a long time. I might not need medication for my anxiety and mild depression soon! Thanks Dr Axe.
Could not figure out why I was so ill one winter. Vitamin D level was 7. Sure did not take long to start feeling better after that was corrected. Mentally and physically I was a wreck. Watch this carefully it’s no joke.
How much the dosage u taked?
Is 20 low? I’ve been feeling terrible and doctor said it was normal?
How long did it take you to feel better
Thank you so much for taking the time to make the world better place for everyone by good health so on. I really appreciate it. Good on you. Keep up the good work.
This helped me so much. I had some health issues and out of bloodtests came i have vit d deficiency. Hopefully it will be okay
I miss ☀️ , I’m going back to Africa, this British winter weather is depressing, I was depressed for no reason, I had to hustle this video. Cheers.
Thanks for clarifying. Buying vitamins can be confusing with all the various choices. You know you need them...but often times I'm in the aisle like "Hun?" Thanks Dr. Axe!
Love Dr. Axe.....straight talk and lots of knowledge along with helpful tips.
I've just been diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency by the doctors. She's put me on 10,000iu every day for a week, then once a week for 3 months.. I got the symptoms you mentioned. I just never realised it was vitamin d doing it. I hope it doesn't take me long to recover. Thanks for the video Dr Axe.
Did you recover?
@@davidgardner8959 yes. Make sure you take magnesium with it though.
What symptoms went away and how long after?
So you remember what you vitamins level was back then? You did 10,000 daily for a week and then followed by how much IU’s weekly?
This helped so much in my nutrition project on vitamin D lol
¹
That's great, Doctor Axe! May God bless you always for every good you have done! Hugs from Brazil!
Amen!
My Dr said my vitamin D level was extremely low. I am now taking 50,000 ui. I am feeling a lot better and hoping it will also help with weight loss as well.
How long did it take to feel a difference?
I’m Here in 2020 Thanks for the info
I'm here in 2030 bro
hi Dr.Axe , thanks a million for the incredible videos. They are very informative and everything is explained in a detailed yet a simplified manner..keep up with the gr8 job..waiting for more such videos.☺
I’m 70, and with COVID conditions, I have been walking as much as I can, I now feel the better than at any younger time in my life. I live in the north and don’t get much sunshine, and do take 2000 units vit D3.
Enjoyed ..not really but it is the most clear..no nonsense ..thorough..effective in helping deliver the key info to apply .Thank you for this awesome video.G-D BLESS YOU.
Correct. There is no safe amount of sun exposure. I'd recommend supplements to someone wanting to get their vitamin D levels up.
I have been tired, could not stand cold weather, and my usual, high energy disappeared. I have been my husband’s caregiver after high risk surgery. My doc said she thought there was another reason . My vit d was low enough I needed a 50, 000:unit Bit D. Thank u Dr.Axe ..you are the best❤️❤️❤️❤️
Have you felt any improvement since going on the D?
@@moderaterevolution504 Actually I have but my doctor recommended a contrast mri since I had fusion in 2015 and my back hurt. It showed much increased degeneration, severe spinal stenosis, two budging disc, one tore, facet arthopathy, etc. etc, and a hypo enhancement on the kidney..( I do have a simple cyst diagnosed years ago.) I started a simple pt on utube. I will have a contrast ct in a few weeks. I do think I feel better and back to more energy. I have never been the sitting around type of person. Thank you for responding.
@@moderaterevolution504 Yes it took two weeks and I felt better. I had an mri and have lots of back issues but have to learn to live with those as surgery gave me no relief.
@@ritastutler1470 Thank you for the response, I hope your problems resolve.
Great info, as always! Can you also address Vitamin A and K (or any other) requirements needed for optimal Vitamin D absorption?
Magnesium 100%
Yes you have a point there..I have since started supplementing with cod liver oil which has d3 vitamin a and Omegas . I also still take my d3 and k2 and mag though but I am feeling. Some better and hoping my eyesight improves ...
My teeth were sensitive to sugar and foods and I thought I just needed a dentist but since taking the vitamin they’re not sensitive anymore
Mee too
@@ebisc966 me tree
Omg me too! I have an infection under the tooth root that the dentist said the body has to heal on its own bec it's already been treated properly but still doesn't heal completely... I hope upping my vit d3 level can help heal it🙏
@@leogirl8927 Were you taking vitamin K2 along with vitamin D3?
Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 both convert to the same active form. The difference is that D2 breaks down quickly in the system whereas D3 remains very much longer. But your advice on the dosage of Vtramin D is absolutely correct, unlike some other RUclips doctors. Also note that a function of Vit D is to convert calcium into strengthening bones. But in the elderly it deposits calcium on blood vessel linings. To correct this and have the calcium go toward bone strength, Vitamin K2 will correct the problem.
I take 10,000IU of Vitamin D3 and 360mcg of Vitamin K2 per day.
Stuck in a building with no windows for 8-10 hours a day. few hours of sunlight... sounds healthy!
Dr axe is really comforting.
I like how you make the most important review of each theme.
Excellent presentation!
I go out in the sun every day shirtless.
Also, if you are having hair shedding (not male pattern baldness), you may be Vitamin D deficient and going out in the sun can stop it fairly fast.
Travis Kraft...I went out shirtless and now I need bail money. Help.
It’s freezing out side... and shirtless could get me in to trouble...
Travis Kraft you need minerals like selenium
make sure to wear sunscreen (all recent evidence shows it barely affects vitamin D production) but yeah definately get some sun
Travis Kraft I've been having on and off hair loss Wonder if this is the reason or one of many
You are the best doctor i have seen..thank you very much your marvellous informations.
Glass????
Perfect summary Maxula
Me 2
There are glass water bottles with a rubber case around it.
Dr. Axe
Thank you for taking the time to up load these videos, they are very informative.
What brand of vitamins do you recommend?
Thank-you very much my doctor mentioned that people living in Northern States suffer from this deficiency I decided to research this further for myself.
Dr. Josh Axe,
First of all thank you for making such an informative video,
secondly please give some names of supplements that are good according to you,
thanks,,,,
by the way nice shirt, I like it :)
Dr. Axe.... You've done it Again !
Most informative video on vitamin D deficiency I've ever seen. Thanks
Thank you for this video My Dr. said my vitamin D was low but didn’t explain to me how to correct it! This video has helped me a lot!
I had some blood work done recently and was give Vitamin D3 50000 once a week and also placed on Omega 3 4 caps daily. I'm Very dark skin however love being in the sun without sun screen. My level vitamin D level was 10.3. thanks for this video great explanation of how Vitamin D helps the body.
How long before you felt better. I have pigment in my skin. Tolerate the sun well but due to 10 years of working at night before I became disabled I 've just been living in a room for last couple of years and didn't realize. I was prescribed from a clinic after I tested at 6 so no advice came with the rx. But added one omega 3 myself. Now I 'll be checking about taking more.
It really should be known to all black people, that they likely have low vitamin D. Its something every doctor should tell them about, and test them for. A high percentage of white people even have it.
I love all the information you give and I have been watching your video every day thank you
Love Dr. Axe, sorry I usually forget to comment or thumbs up. I taught electronics and I like your clear message filled with appropriate information.
Love your channel. Always learning. Very helpful and informative.
Your video was very helpful for me, thanks alot!!
I love listening to this guy, so much knowledge. Thanks so Much Dr Axe.
Great advice. I have learned a lot. Thanks Dr Axe.
Great presentation, and thank you for the post!
Sarah Crain hope u feel better. Have you noticed excessive sweating or hairloss with vitamin d Deficiency?
Me: What are symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency?
Dr. Axe: Yes
Exactly. 🙄🤣
No Sun In Michigan!
I just doubled up on my D3.
I hope you know how great you are Doctor.
Wow - professional advise and NOT trying to sell something THANK YOU ! I am doing exactly as you say, that was 'right on the 'mark' of my own doctor . I have been getting hair loss / bald spots due to very low vitamin D (hormone) deficiency, as well . Essential oil massages with Peppermint oil and almond oil , is working wonders . I also lay on my stomach across the bed with my head hanging over , letting oxygen rich blood go straight to my scalp . Simple solutions to a deficiency that can be extremely harmful .
I need to go outside more! I’m a stay at home mom and practically live inside 😩
easy way to get sunlight is to open the window and get some sunshine on your face and hands when it's very sunny during the day
When I was raising kids- we were always outside. They were healthy kids.
Wonderful work Dr. Axe
My vitamin D level is at 10. Have been experiencing low energy and frequent colds since I can remember. At least now I know

Diabetes. Strokes and other symptoms of low nourishment. These simptoms are bunched together deliberately. DR. Axe I honour your wisdom, you put this together over a period of time and I am acting on your advice. BLESS YOU.
Hello, I am loving your videos! I have had alopecia universalis for 12 years - I have tried every single thing I could find to get it to grow again... failure. I noticed last year after a month in the Florida sun, plus eating fresh fish and citrus every day, my hair was growing back fast and thick. Once I returned home to my desk job, it all fell out again. I have been watching a ton of your videos, and I am thinking vitamin D and the vitamins and minerals it needs to work are the solutions.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos, I think the quality of my life is about to skyrocket! ...and I am moving to Florida.
sir is it true
Thank you Doc for all the help and tips!

I have been taking prescription Vitamin D for two months now every week. I can't tell the difference
Helpful and concise. Great video.
I am allergic to the sun, so I have to take Vitamin d3. I take 15,000 IU’s daily. All 3 of the doctors I see agree this won’t hurt me to take this daily dosage cause I’m deficient in D. I also take 100 mcg K2 for every 10,000 IU of D that I take. They should be taken together for maximum benefit.
@carmen kipp do you go out in the sun since your allergic to the sun I’m sensitive to the sun
Carmen kipp
What is k2
Latrece Lockett , I do go out, but cover up with a 50+ UVB wrap from coolbar.
I started getting bad vertigo (with vomiting) out of nowhere about 6 yrs ago, was in my late 40's and had no prior health issues. Started taking a K2-D3 capsule daily, and over the next 2 weeks, my vertigo gradually went away and has not returned. I had gone to the E.R. during my bout and they didn't do any blood work, they just prescribed a patch for the vertigo (which I didn't even get). I'm convinced I was Vitamin D deficient!
Do you have any information on the correlation between Vitamin D and Sarcoidosis? My mom has Sarcoidosis and it came on twice when starting a vitamin D regiment. Any ideas?
Thank you so much Dr. Axe, I follow your advice always.
Here's something interesting for you. I live in the Mediterranean and out in the sun all the time, and yet, my Vitamin D levels are 17 ... transpires that Vitamin D is not absorbed if the magnesium levels are low.
I was the same. Having all types of unexplained problems including depression and anxiety and insomnia and muscle pains and more. Blood works show vitamin d deficiency took up my dose to 10000iu for the first time as I normally take 5000 iu a day. And man oh man the first time I felt a natural sleep as such. Took it in the night. And I realized that I had more energy in the day. I can’t wait to see what this can do for me over the next couple of days 😊
What were your results? How long did it take?
Useful thanks Dr.
Wow! I really needed this!
I appreciate the info but what Dr. Axe didn't mention is that if you're Black you're going to need up to 2 hours of sunlight.
And I'm darker from being out in the sun so yeah I have to spend more time out there
