Wait till you figure out people were testing with vitamin A and D against the common cold in 1941... It's maddening how vast the gap between the available research and the application is.
What will really blow your mind is realizing what is causing a massive drain of vitamin D (and other nutrients) even for people that get a lot of sun: eating plant seeds; grains, nuts, beans and their oils.
Oh and vit A/D along with K can prevent and actually cure a lot of cancers. Has been known for over 40 years. And yet...

It's beyond foolish to say a person who has a job has no responsibility to that job.
oh wait, it sounds like your saying become an expert in every discipline and subject and buy all the equipment in a hospital?
You should probably think before you going around saying it's your own fault.

      Naptown Squid, y're a snob.
The nineteenth-century bourgeoisie used morality to assert class dominance - something elites still do today.
The word Victorian tends to evoke old-fashioned ideas: women confined in corsets, strict gender roles, and a prudishness about all things sexual. In a world where conspicuous consumerism and self-expression rule, these nineteenth-century notions of self-restraint and self-denial seem hopelessly outdated.
But the Victorian ethos is not dead, not by a long shot.
It lives on, manifesting itself in our contemporary upper middle class’s behavior. While some aspects have gone the way of the waistcoat, the belief that the bourgeoisie holds a place of moral superiority over the other classes persists.
Today, spin classes, artisanal food, and the college application process have replaced Sunday promenades, evening lectures, and weekly salons. But make no mistake, they serve the same purpose: transforming class privilege into individual virtue, thereby shoring up social dominance.

For 10 yrs I suffered from body ack, migraine, extreme fatigue, anxiety, and depression. I thought I was going crazy and all my doctors...cause I went and saw three different doctors until i found my fourth who finally help me....these three doctors all they would say to me was that I was menopausal and depressed to deal with it. Yah! I was depressed!!! allo....! I was sick? Today that is 4 months ago I started on D3 vitamin and only now am i starting to feel normal. I am only at half the level I should be to be my optimum....and yes, I will monitor my level every 4 months to maintain my optimal lever of vit 5 because I don't ever want to feel this way again.....I really believe I was close to a heart attack....Thank you to my new found doctor.

I'm a New Zealand dairy farmer. A few years ago I got sick with Crohns - incurable according to Drs, nearly killed me. Turns out I was working too hard, not getting enough sleep and eating way too much sugar+processed carbs+sugary juice.
It was easy for me on the farm to switch to a diet of meat+veges - I grow kale outside, it's easy. I get lots of sun because I work outside. I find the farming lifestyle is really good for health - seems like a lot of government and environmentally minded people want to destroy this way of life.

    • @marsmarv
      @marsmarv 5 лет назад +27

Crohns - as I learned through various books and MD’s online presentations it is autoimmune response to animal proteins particulary dairy, plus there is a common Crohns equivalent in dairy cows and there are almost 60% sick in most dairy farms, so the bacteria that causes it gets into dairy products, so it is best to stick to veggies for life or at least until you recover in full.

New Zealand's government now recommends whole foods plant based diet for all citizens and hospitals for both environmental and health reasons so I'm not sure who told you to have bad sleep hygiene or to eat processed carbs and drink sugary juice. Maybe scam companies have but your government is actually very sensible.
Farming can be done environmentally friendly. Consider or plan switching to permaculture plant based farming as your government will definitely start punishing dairy farmers in next years - being one of highest CO2 and pollution emitters in NZ (and across the World). Nothing against you Damo - just your business model is not sustainable at the current and growing scale of human population anymore. But you can still continue doing what you enjoy and be very healthy.

    • @GregVidua
      @GregVidua 5 лет назад +1

@Johannes Liechtenauer it's not unpopular, it's just not viable. Look at any developed nation - they stop breeding as they get richer and smarter naturally - with no laws needed to support that. At the same time though as people get richer they buy more cars, eat more meat and such.
Limiting developed countries would be crippling as they already have too little children even when some have 4 or 5.
Limiting developing countries would be crippling as they need a lot of hands and minds to get to higher level.
As long as education levels are high and everybody is environmentally conscious we can have much larger population and be just fine.

D3 helps with absorption of calcium and K2. K2 helps direct calcium into your bones, D3 helps it absorb. This is an important combo. If you are sick and/or deficient in VitD, take 10,000 iu per day for a month to catch up and then taper off until your test show you consistently have a healthy amount.

I'm a fan of this woman as well. It seems she understands the language of the data which will answer our biggest concerns instead of being an educational snob, and sh won't go on too long before getting to some measurements, examples, or useful action descriptions that we can actually understand... and I'm one of those slow thinkers that feels lost even when he's almost got it. I want to know everything immediately, so if something like serum levels isn't every day banter for me, I tend to want that explained as well, even though with time I usually can realize something like "oh yeah, that's probably that data the doctor gives but doesn't explain very well".
The only thing I would possibly change (okay fans of the doctor, go ahead and jump my ass for criticizing-- I know these are the days when experts can do no wrong), would be to add some fabric to that room if used again for commentary. The harsh bouncing of vocals makes it sound almost like she's two ticks away from shouting or scolding somebody. It's only on a string of two or three words, maybe one word at times, but sometimes only her nice face makes me remember I'm not getting balled out by a teacher. It doesn't sound like that on Joe's podcast, as they're probably using some top dollar Audio-Technica or range of mics way up there that I've never heard of.
Anyway, thanks for the info, as it will probably make a difference even though I fell on bad luck with my health a few years back. I need all the help I can get, and though the measuring with blood etc.. to get the sweet spot with D sounds tedious, I'll go for the default level or try to get to the doc and find out if my supplements have helped at all.

using suncreen everytime you go out is essential-- if you are so keen on anti aging it is one of the only proven methods that reduces aging. She mentioned that wearing sunscreen prevents vitamin D absorbtion, but most people who wear it on a daily basis do not wear enough for it to be significant. And most only wear it on their face, or neck on a daily basis so there are other surface areas that are free of product. There are many studies that show that it does not inhibit vitamin D absorption. Here are a couple, onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/bjd.17888
      pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30945275/
There are some alterate opinions but usually they talk about EXTREME use of sunscreen, to where people will even fail to go outdoors and will lather it on every 2 hours with a very high spf. But pretty much nobody does this. The average person does not have to worry. I think the problem is less about sunscreen use, and more about the fact that less people go outside in general, and less people eat healthier food. Anyways, most people fail to wear sunscreen everyday. Almost nobody I know wears it on a daily basis, even though they should. Taking proper care of your skin isn't to blame :).

I feel much better now and will get it checked again now that you've jogged my memory.

I've started checking my D levels in 2006 and had to ramp up my dosage after 2 months as levels were not yet at 50 continued at 20,000,IU for another 6 months and retested then lowering to 10,000 for another 3 months. I had an annual physical and discovered my level at 100. Any more than that it becomes toxic from what I've read.
I lowered my dose to 5, 000 IU and seem to be holding above 60, which is in the normal range. I check my bp and pulse every day for a sanity check as well.
I do need to get my annual physical soon and hope to be good to go.
I'm also getting more sun after moving to Az. Which seems to change my cholesterol into D as I've read.

It is simply impressive to have these contents in an old video which are still quite relevant and scientific. It is unfortunate to see a large number of videos advising high doses of this pro hormone on a daily basis when it is essential to reach an optimum and continue with a minimum dose of supplements. As rightly said the more is not good and occasional testing is required. Sun exposure at noon for a few minutes will solve the issue and supplements taken with fat alone will give the best absorption. Thank you ma'am as always for your valuable suggestions

I used several blood test to find mathematically this sweet spot for my wife. The conclusion was to take a pill of 16 thousand units every 10 days was perfect for both summer and winter (we live in the South of Spain and yet almost everyone we now that has been tested has too lower levels, meaning < 30 ng/ml and even lower than 20). That maintains the levels between 60-65 nanograms/ml (she was under 20 before). I follow the same regime and I am also maintaining my levels in that range. My doctor has changed from prescribing 1 of those pills peer month to 1 every two weeks and his patients are getting much better results. We also found that many supplements do not work at all. I took one supplement of 2000 units/pill everyday and not even taken 4 of those per day had any effect in raising my vitamin D levels after more than a month. We tried others with the same result. It is not only the substance but how it is presented and how it has been preserved. Magnesium seems to help with not exeding the upper bound of the healthy range. In summary, based on my experience and without any degree in biology or medicine (I am a physicist) I would recommend to give a try to take a supplement that has been preserved in a cold, dark and dry environment (a pharmacy would guarantee that in contrast to a parapharmacy) and that is presented as a soft pill (mines are like a rugby ball in shape and 6 mm approximately) and take one of those every week or two weeks (you could alternate) with a daily supplement of magnesium and k3 for added benefits.

Eating mature plant seeds and their seed oils drain your vitamin D (among several other things) because they're toxic and continuously trigger your immune system, which needs vitamin D. So no grains (except white rice), no nuts, no beans (except peas and green beans as they're immature). Carbs need to come from what was in our original diet: tubers and roots like (sweet) potatoes, cassava etc.. The only major exception is white rice, although you're missing out on the potassium which is another possible problem.
If you're thinking; no thanks I'll just supplement vitamin D and not change my diet; doesn't work, as your body still has to work its way through all the poisons every day which will cause problems no matter what your vit D blood level.
If you're wondering why seeds are poisonous: simple, they evolved to be as unappealing to be eaten as possible because they're for plants to reproduce, not to be food for animals like humans. And since plants can't run away they have to resort to chemical warfare: natural pesticides that are poisonous to us (we're the pests!).
So it's no surprise at all that even people in Spain have insufficient vitamin D levels.
Magnesium is crucial to be brought up to level along with vitamin D as magnesium is needed in the conversion of vit D to its active forms. If you have trouble getting your vitamin D levels up it's most likely because of a magnesium deficiency which is also extremely common.
Be sure to get sufficient vitamin A in your diet as well because vitamin A/D and K are very dependent on each other and meant to be kept at sufficient levels.
There are other cofactors like vit B2, zinc etc that are involved in the processes as well. Basically: make sure you cover as many nutrients as possible, preferably from food and you'll increase your chances of success and health considerably.
It's going to take a while for people to realize and accept that most plant seeds are poisonous to humans and a major reason so many people suffer and die horribly on a "Western" diet!
      Good luck out there!

What is the bioavailability of a D3 supplement?
If you take 4000 IUs, does your body actually get 3000 or 2000IUs worth after digestion?

Insurance usually will not pay for vitamin D testing, and it runs between 200 and $300. You can’t just tell everyone to get routine testing when it’s not available.

I would like someone to explain what the metabolized levels of vitamin D should be. How does one know what the sweet spot is when only measuring the precursor. I am low in the precursor, but, my metabolized hormone is within normal or high ranges. The D foundation simply said I should not be testing the metabolized hormone, find another endocrinologist. So much for educating the public. I asked Quest labs if they knew what the metabolized numbers were on people taking 5-10,000iu of D3. They didn't know. Does anyone check? Why is the metabolized half of the story glossed over as though it is not relevant.

The active form varies from time to time. The active form gets it from the storage. If the storage is low. Then at times your active form will be low.

Regarding those twins being tested... was calcidiol tested, or was it calcitriol? Was magnesium deficiency ruled out? After all, magnesium is required to flip calcidiol to calcitriol, so if magnesium is deficient, that "flip" can't occur at the same rate. More detail is required here.
Anyone who uses the term "vitamin D" as though it has a specific meaning has more homework to do, or assumptions to shed.

Have your views on Vitamin D updated since 2013?
In a book from Dr. Raimund von Helden, I've read that indigenous people have serum levels of 100-110 ng/ml and that the body self regulates cholecalciferol, so that it's almost impossible to overdose, in a healthy human.
He states that serum levels below 55 are unhealthy and levels above are conducive to good health.

I read that if you take vitamin D3, that you need to also take vitamin K2 - any info on this?

I think it may be the other way around. I know there are synergistic effects with vitamin D, K, and calcium but I don't know the specific details.

    • @dalebruce4077

You don't have to take K2 with D3. You can, but it's not required.
If you get K2 at a pharmacy, it will generally come with D3. Meaning K2+D3
The K2 dose is usually MK-7 and it's generally only 120 mcg. The K2 you really want is MK-4 at around 2000mcg and 120 mcg of MK-7

Hey Rhonda! Thank you for the free content I'll make sure I'll give back on Patreon :)Question about Vitamin D. Some people here in Sweden are scared to take it because its a "pro-hormone".Is there any dangers to taking it? Will it inhibite your own ability to create Vitamin D when your exposed to Sunlight? You know the exogenous vs endogenous thing thats common with taking steroids for example.I get ZERO Sunlight here and i supplement with 60 micrograms a day. I am 90kilos and 192cm tall.

yeah my doctor would never order blood tests for vitamin levels, not in canada, anyway. Hey I can't be the only one who thinks this doctor is incredibly gorgeous, and I am mesmerized when she speaks... saw her on Rogan, subbed here, I almost wish she wasn't so attractive I feel hypnotized... God bless beautiful intelligent women, they make my head spin. I know, I know, politically incorrect, I can't help it. I love Rhonda's videos, and the information is top shelf, she's brilliant, and explains things so well. There is a god.

If you have an autoimmune disease, you need to be in the upper level of VitD in the blood---closer to the 80ng range. My lupus symptoms are greatly reduced with the right supplements and cut out gluten, less sugar, and eating more natural foods and less processed foods.

Tried telling my mother this. Doctor doesn't know what's going on with her. They say Fibromyalgia, maybe Lupus, maybe Rheumatoid Arthritis, maybe this, maybe that.
She lives a shitty lifestyle and then can't understand why her body always hurts and she can't do anything. She's overweight, doesn't do ANY exercises, doesn't go outside, works from home permanently now, sits all day, drinks Mountain Dew, and eats processed crap all day or doesn't eat at all.
She claims she can't exercise b/c it hurts. She doesn't understand that you HAVE to start somewhere. First, change the diet. That's going to help more than anything right now. Then introduce some form of exercise. She thinks exercise means go to the gym and lift weights and b/c she's weak she can't do that. All I want her to do is walk around her neighborhood for 30 minutes a day. It really is infuriating and I've just stopped caring at this point. I expect to bury her in the next 10 years.
