GLP-1 agonists aren't the long term answer but for many it's a start and there are significant improvements in cardiovascular disease, metabolic health being demonstrated .. but this list is better for people who are willing to do these things

Not eating carbs in the evening, which I did for years, was honestly disastrous for me as a woman. Totally threw off my hormones. My sleep was horrendous, waking up multiple multiple times a night. Once I started eating a decent portion of carbs at dinner, my sleep, mood, anxiety, hormones, etc. all improved and I did not gain weight from it! What works for men doesn't not necessarily work for women and vice versa.

I’m 55 lost 50lb doing carnivore and it’s amazing! Way better than low carb. I do have berries and full fat yogurt when I’m needing something different. But mainly intermittent fasting and meat. High fat / butter helps you sleep.
I’ve been taking tirzepatide since September. I started at 2, went up to 2.5 and am now weaning down to get completely off. I’ve lost 25 lbs. 93 lbs of muscle to now 89 lbs of muscle. 34% fat to 27%. High protein and strength training 3+ days a week and walking with a 12 or 20 lb (alternating) weighted vest every day. I will be 60 in two months. People have commented on how amazing I now look. Thankful for this boost.

Problem is, my lovely, glp1s are what some people need to live. Too many people die from the terrible issues involved with being chronicly overweight. And it's not because they are lazy or simply overeat. For some these enzymes (they are not drugs) are life savers.
@ oh hun i have pcos… trust me i know the ebbs and flows of all of that. But these medications are ruining peoples bodies for life. Better to get with a health coach, go to therapy and work through the issues surrounding food. And be diligent about correcting your cortisol levels and your self control.

Great video. One note I would add is if your gut is messed up, producing symptoms of SIBO or something similar.. fiber can make your situation worse. You would need to address healing your gut lining first with little to no fiber and then add it back in slowly as time goes on.
I’m currently on the GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome) diet, Which is basically a gut reset diet that helps you actually seal and heal the gut lining while also repopulating it with more healthy bacteria. Starches are removed from the diet and homemade meat stock and well cooked veggies are the stable for the first period of healing. I lost 10 lbs in the first week (198 to 189), got my cycle back after 2 months with nothing, passed a fibroid, and have the clearest mind I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend!
I am recovering from Covid and hadn’t eaten much for 6 days. I started with beef broth and a small amount of vegetables cooked in it. I could only have a third of a cup at first but I am working my way up and I think it’s helping 😊

I know people that are taking these but would be offended if I suggest this video. They won't see past the 60lbs that they lost. And yes they do look older.
I've seen that in other quick losses. Surgery or fasting in 2 different people. Take it slow and excercise is key.

A friend of mine is a medical researcher and also a doctor, specializing on weight loss. About 20-25% of people can't lose weight even on a very healthy diet and with no cravings and snacking. There has seem to be two primary causes; a 'fat virus' and the lack of a specific gut bacteria which seem to make it extremely difficult.
I am one of those people. I have tried every diet, carnivore, Keto, weight watchers you name or I’ve done it. Even a 10 day juice fast and I only lost 3 lbs.
I don’t have a food problem but a metobolic problem. I started zepbound Sept 1 and I’ve lost 22 lbs. it has been a game changer. I am still eating healthily and I’ve stayed on a low dose this entire time. I am going to up my dose next month. I’m not sure I agree with the muscle loss because I have a scale that shows me my muscle mass. It hasn’t changed. I am doing yoga.
I was having problems with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and inflammation. I feel a lot better.
I’m very frustrated with being guilted by people who say just stop eating junk and get off your ass and you’ll lose weight! For some of us it isn’t true. I haven’t eaten fast food in over a decade, I don’t eat seed oils, I don’t eat processed food and I couldn’t lose weight.
Are they “REALLY” on low calorie? Or are they cheating and claiming they follow their diet closely?

We are talking about chronic obesity not short term weight loss. Chronic obesity is a disease. It’s life long. And it’s not always about diet or fitness. Period. People can do everything right & still not lose weight. There are so many variables.
This medication is for chronic obesity not weight loss. It helps people with addiction, with heart problems, with depression & anxiety, with PGAD, liver problems, etc… This is for way more than diabetes. Chronic obesity kills just like diabetes does. Chronic obesity is not the same as mere weight loss.
Chronic obesity kills people. It’s not about diet & exercise for most people with chronic obesity. Now your simple weight loss..say after having a baby or 10 lbs here or there, is not chronic obesity. Do you know what chronic means? It’s been an epidemic for four decades now & getting worse. 70%-75% of people are either overweight or have chronic obesity. Although they are not the same, it is a growing health problem. And they have found a cure. There are people who are disabled, have mobility issues, illness, disease, high stress levels, cortisol issues, pcos, hormonal issues, menopause, medications, glp-1 deficiencies etc.. And then of course there are eating disorders. Too many variables to count. It’s not just diet & exercise. There are people who need this medication to help them from getting diabetes or from dying of cardiac issues & many other health issues. Stop the stigma! Stop the fat shaming! And educate yourselves. All life is precious.

Go live in another country for 6 months and your weight will drop easy

My wife hasn’t been able to do much walking since she’s been on BP & cholesterol medication. Her legs give out on her & they ache when she walks for over 10 minutes at a time. She’s always been a walker & had a lot of strength in her body but she says now she feels weak. She firmly believes it’s the medication. Her drs constantly try’s to make her take the weight loss medication & when she says no, they get mad. They don’t try to find out why she has high bp or cholesterol. They just have her medication refilled & says to come back in six months. By the way she’s not overweight by no means. Thank you for the healthy information!!
I tried statins and could not move it attacked my muscles in my neck and back. That is no quality of life. They told me that is an allergic reaction. I got off of it and the symptoms stopped.

Lifestyle changes, eating better along with staying active and natural supplements is the only way to lose weight and keep it off.
You can also get pumpkin seeds and dried sweetened cranberries at Dollar Tree. I figure the amount of cranberries I use in meals is small so I don't worry about the sweetened part. I put them in salads and chicken and tuna salad (with chopped walnuts and chopped apple).

I’m sick of hearing cortisol issues over simplified and talked about as easy to solve. It can take years to resolve cortisol issues, and ashwaghanda is bad for those with autoimmune, who also usually have cortisol issues. Many can’t escape real life stressors either. It’s more complex than it’s made out to be.
Why is it bad with people with autoimmune issues?
I am still working to get my muscles back after Monjauro. I also have cellulite for the first time in my life after that drug 😢

Avocado seeds! Grate and make a powder or tea. Also, tea tree essential oil.
50 mg of zinc daily will help heal acne.
Stop ALL dairy and gluten. It’s hard to cut them both out at once. I had horrible cystic acne in my early 20’s after the HPV shot. I learned a lot about acne after that and one of the first things to do is check your diet. You need to cut out the foods for 3 months, then you can slowly try them again (try only one back at a time) and see within a couple of weeks how your body reacts.
Also, totally agree with zinc, but you can become imbalanced if you take it for too long. A general nutritional panel from the doctor would be helpful.
I also eliminated all fragrances in my laundry and switched to natural face washes and creams. Tea tree oil helps a lot. I’m now 40 and get mistaken for being in my late 20’s, I think due to diet and using natural face care products. I didn’t even start using lotion until I was 38, highly do not recommend!

Dr Axe, can you tell us about diet for people with chronic kidney disease stage 3/4. How to improve kidney function and lower urea etc.
I’ve been prescribed Ozempic by my endocrinologist and have been on the medication for about four months. I have high insulin levels, which, according to my doctors, including my endocrinologist, could potentially lead to diabetes in the coming years. I’m currently on a very small dose, and the only side effect I’ve noticed so far is constipation. I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor in the next few weeks.
In the past, I tried working with a nutritionist, but I couldn’t stick with it. In addition to insulin resistance, I’ve been managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) for over a decade, for which I’m also taking medication. I’m open to exploring alternatives with less long-term risk, but honestly, I’m not sure where to start, who to ask, or what direction to take.
What’s a small dose?
Intermittent fasting. Which is what ozempic does it makes you so sick you can't eat. Plus it does have the Benicia of increasing insulin sensitivity. That increase is a natural result of fasting. Try dr. Fung! He teaches about healing and curing diabetes
Might i suggest Dr Ben Bickmans book "why we get sick"? Pocs is also caused by insulin resistance. You need to drastically reduce your carb intake.
Sugar and starch is highly addictive. You will have withdraw symptoms just like every other addict. Sugar affects the same part of the brain as cocaine. Obviously not as strong but enough to cause addiction. Sugar withdraw is called "keto flu" by many. But the symptoms are the same ss withdraw from drugs. It's not gonna be easy. But it's worth it
Find Doctors Mindy Pelez and Annette Boz both female physicians and they can help you with diet. I will say look for Dr. Boz's video on Butter 🧈 and water only fast for insulin resistance. Dr. Pelez has a book "Fast like a girl" I recommend. Also Dr. Jason Fung is the best for fasting but coupled with Dr. Pelez 's book knowledge. Of course talk about all of this with a doctor just as a fyi kind of thing because they may have been educated by pharma against those things. Doctors have to self educate on nutrition, because they don't get it in med-school which is controlled by big pharma.
Nutritionists can't tell you or doesn't have the knowledge do give you proper information in fear they will loose the jobs. Diet changes is your only hope to prevent future diseases like diabetes and autoimmune disease. Keto, ketovore, carnivore diets/can save you. Sugar/carbs cause inflammation in the body which is one of the main sources of disease and increased insulin increases damage to blood vessels and other body parts up to10 or more years before a person get diagnosed with predaibetis/diabetis

Dr Axe, could you please add a caution on taking high doses of B6 in those B complex vitamins. I suffered from nerve damage due to B6 since it's practically in everything we eat and then adding b complex gives overdose of B6. Please see research and it'll help prevent the toxicity of too much B6

I am interested in gastroparesis. I was diagnosed with this for 15 to 20 years. I have tried to eat normal and obviously I feel nausea and then I find out my pancreas isn't working properly about 7 years ago. Just recently I received news that I have hypothyroidism. If I am understanding correctly: for women, at the high end of 25 to 40 grams of proteins per meal per day - (using 40 grams for the example below):
That equals up to 1.41 ounces protein per meal X 3 meals per day.
Or said another way,
a total of up to 4.23 ounces of protein per day… ideally, for a woman to maintain muscle mass.

Your brother Dr Jordan Axe put me on Lugol’s Iodine, but a functional medicine friend told me my eyes were a different size or something and to stop. I’m confused. I stopped to be safe, but do I need it?
And FYI, my doc put me on Berberine after I got Lactic Acidosis from Metformin. It didn’t help.
Semaglutide lowered my A1c from 7.8 to 5.5.
And I lost some weight… just 40 pounds over 2 years. I consider that reasonable.
