Skull cavern is way too hard without the slime charmer ring. I did the first few levels of the mines with only green slimes over and over again until I got the slime Monster Slayer achievement.
If you dont have the warp totems or the septer, keep at least one ladder on you. When in danger, put it down, enter, and immediately turn around and exit the mines.
You still need to go back to the bus and then back to your farm. If you wanna maximize the time a warp totem is much better as you can use it as late as 01.30-01.40 am shortly before the day ends.
ah yes i got the galaxy sword after entering the skull cavern because i had a prismatic shard at year 1 when i smashed a geode and got prismatic shard i hope you guys get the prismatic shard 😂😂
I recently got to level 100 in skull caverns! I wouldn’t call it very useful, but here’s how I did it if it helps anyone. I’m on year 4, so I had quite a bit of gold on me. I bought around 80 salads from the saloon and made sure to craft lots of bombs. I also crafted a LOT of stone stairs to skip levels. I then waited for the luckiest day and ate a lucky lunch before going in. I also stood in front of Pam so she would run to the bus rather than walk. I arrived at 9:40 I believe. If the rocks in the levels were too spread out for bomb wasting or there were too many monsters, I threw down a staircase and kept going. I ended up finding several shafts because of my luck and made it to 100 at around 8 pm! Good luck everyone! edit: This comment was made before the huge update that added desert warp totems and the lady in the desert who offers trades. Those options are extremely helpful now! 💕
I recommend bringing cheese especially gold quality cheese since they give you +225 energy and +101 health or iridium qaulity cheese cuz they give you +325 energy and +146 health but they don't give any buffs...
And also they are easy to make.. Just put Milk to a cheese press to create normal cheese, Large Milk to a cheese press to create gold quality cheese and for iridium quality, put them in a cask and wait 7 days..
I went down there for the first time yesterday with salmonberries and poppers for health. I got my ass kicked on the first level and ended up in Harvey's clinic
Barbara J omg me too! I went in the skull cave, died, lost the good obsidian sword and ended up at the clinic. And then later I died a second time in the skull cave. I was so angry. I feel ya. Good luck if you try again!
You should wear 1 Iridium Band and 1 Slime Ring. The slime rings makes all slime damage nullified. Making slimes no problem. Don't even have to fight them unless you want to.
Yeah but killing 1000 slimes is such a slog. I'm almost done with year 1, gone through the mines several times and some of skull cavern, and I've only got like 500 slimes.
@@MaxAttax13 try to find infested floors and revisit it again and again in the same day. The slimes respawn on that floor regardless of how soon it is. If you don't wanna risk too much damage, stick to any floors before 80 and the slimes will die after one or two hits of a good weapon. I usually get the slime charmer ring by sometime in Fall of the first year.
I use a vampire ring instead. With the brute skill loadout I can 1 - 3 shot Iridium Slimes, and that sweet health from the vamp ring has saved my ass more than once.

Yes! The vamp ring is so good! Especially with my brute skill loadout, I can kill Iridium Slimes in 1 - 3 hits. That health has saved my ass more than once.
Well, you don't particularly need the vampire ring if you have good food items that restore a lot of health. By spamming food you can indefinitely freeze time and eat as much food as you need/want before moving on (unless you're playing multiplayer). Combining 2 Iridium bands with Galaxy Hammer and brute profession allows you to rack up insane amounts of damage (70-90 * 1.25 (fighter + brute) * 1.2 (2 Iridium bands) = 105-135 total damage). It basically 3-4 shots even the most durable enemies (maybe with the exception of some boss slimes), and the broken special on hammers allows you to instantly kill enemies if you button mash.
@@znoequeenvalentin8373 I use hammers/clubs almost exclusively for how good they are, I never really understand the SV youtubers telling people to get a sword when clubs just perform much better. Swords really only make sense as a back up weapon when you're on something like Lead Rod and if you have access to things like Lava Katana or Obsidian Edge, but once it's Galaxy time, it's Galaxy Hammer all the way, easily.
Good tips, but i think it should be pointed out in the speed section that if you kill those flying dragon dudes they can drop spicy eel which give you some health/energy and a speed boost for about 6mins. saving you from needing to craft meals.
Killing serpents is mandatory anyway unless they haven't seen you yet. They will home in you and fast! Plus all enemies in the cavern do enormous damage
When you see 5 Serpent flying at you rush back to the ladder. And when the purple fog appears that means more Serpents will appear so when that fog appears get out of the Cave ASAP.

I would recommend the iridium band doubled with the burglar ring instead of two iridium bands. The double glow isn't necessary because the cave is already perfectly lit and 10% damage is plenty to move quickly through mobs. The burglar ring ensures higher drop rates for the mobs and higher chance of getting rare loot as well. By far my favorite ring in the game.
It keeps you from getting to floor 1500+ and smacking tons of iridium nodes for dat precious metal. It also adds some element of replayability to the game. I'd get maybe only an elevator to floor 50 or something, but through the entire cavern would make the cavern boring. Plus, it's meant to be unexplored, so elevators haven't been built.
Great tips. I was hesitant to go back after dying very quickly on Floor One and losing several big stacks of seeds I'd just bought, plus other stuff. Thanks for an amazing job with this video. Well done sir !
I've never seen anyone actually use the slingshot, and I had no idea you could fire gold ore or bombs instead of stone... so cool. I also didn't know you could cut down trees in the desert, or that blocking those bugs would stop them moving. Great tips!
Even though Harvey is at 10 HEARTS with me, and is literally about to be my fiance, the asshole still charges 1000 gold everytime I get knocked unconscious. I went into the skull cavern in year one, bad idea??? I think it's too soon but idk XD
what about taking a load of cheap food like pizza to eat while the bombs go off? it should freeze time, allow the bombs to explode and make you invulnerable to the explosions while the eating animation completes.
I find gold star cheese to be a pretty good item to take with you. No buffs, but very good health and energy recovery. If you have some happy cows, you can very easily get these in abundance. And most trips I take only use about six pieces at most.
This video was extremely helpful ,thank you! Still kind of laughing over the running through the mine dropping bombs tho 😂😂 why didn't I think of that omg
An easy food that I always keep on hand is the Maple Bar. It just takes maple syrup, sugar, and wheat flour. For relatively easy ingredients it heals a ton and offers long lasting buffs.
this is actually a very helpful guide... first time i clicked it away because of the annoyingly long intro but if you fast forward there is really good info here
That was a very comprehensive Skull Cavern guide! Thank you for sharing it, Game Shark! I started to feel desperate when I realised that there was no elevator in that mine, so this video is very helpful to me.
Ive just done my first ever Skull cavern run, I only got to floor 83 but managed ok after using your advice. The only things I don’t yey have is the rings you suggest but I’m working on that! Many thanks your tips definitely made this boring chore a lot more bearable!
I would add two tips! 1. The blocking mechanic can save your ass against the serpents when they get to be too dangerous, and 2. If you’re a lower level and at serious risk of dying, fill your inventory up with a bunch of crap you don’t want just in case you faint and lose some of your items.
Another tip: make sure to get the Special Charm. First you need one of the secret notes (idk which one), and then you go to the truck by jojamart and give the driver a rabbit's foot. I think the luck boost is equivalent to max daily luck, correct me if I'm wrong though.
Thanks for the video, I’m new to Stardew valley. My very first time to the skull cavern not knowing that we wouldn’t have elevators got to level 20 and died lol. It was fun though now that I have these tips I will be testing them out. 😊
I suggest farming as much stone in the quarry/mines as much as possible. It takes 9,900 stone to make a hundred ladders. Place them all right at the best time and you can get to that special item on floor 100. 😂
My favorite food item is the spicy eel, with +1 speed and +1 luck. Also, the slime ring that makes slimes not do damage is great (get from the Adventurers guild as a reward for killing the amount of slimes on the score board). Also, the garlic elixir makes low level enemies afraid of you, so they don't show up at all, and it can be stacked with a beverage and a food
Hey I'm a new subscriber and I love the tips you're posting. I just bought stardew valley and I'm currently on my first year of Fall. Could you make a video for tips on how to make you're farm into a winery for noobs like me haha. I watched your winery project video but didn't know how you got there. Keep up the good work!
I just started playing about 2 weeks ago and I'm already to the Skull Cavern, but I'm having trouble. Some of the stuff GSX talks about are for players with far more money and resources than somebody like me has. "Use your return scepter," yeah I'll use that 2 million gold thing that I can't afford yet. I know, use warp totems instead, maybe I'll try that. I mean I've got the lava katana and space boots on, as well an attack boost ring, but shit down there gangs up on me. Those stupid purple slimes are actually the worst for me, because they split and turn into like 4 or 5 fast and powerful smaller slimes that just eat my health and goo me up so I can't move. It's tough, the Skull Cavern is SDV's Dark Souls area, I know. Maybe I'll try again when I get level 10 combat and a few million gold to buy everything I need.
@Seth Borgeson if its sprinklers you need krobus sells them on fridays. I havent even made one yet and I already have 8 on my year 2. If you are in need of money or need to farm stones I would go to floors 40-80 to get stone there. 1-40 is too spread out and 80-120 the enemies are too annoying. The dwarf sells cherry bombs and bombs for a decent price and you can be friends with them the more you buy stuff
@Seth Borgeson my first playthrough j mever made it past 30. Just today on a bad luck day in winter to pass time I made it to 68 without any of the tricks ye mentioned. I dont even have iridium bands yet. If you're rich enough to craft/buy bombs from the dwarf, buy a miners treat, and coffee just for starter buffs to make it down to floors 35+ before it wears off. By then some of the monsters should drop spicy eels which you need to keep for a different run because they have a speed and luck boost
You can get to the skull cavern before fixing the bus or getting the key from Gunther. If you've made it to lvl 120 in the mines, place 1 wood fence piece next to the snake statue by the ladder on the left and use a bomb to blow it up. A hole with ladder opens up and when you go down you're in the skull cavern. To leave, simply exit as you would, take the bus back home. You'll need to do this each time to gain access. This doesn't unlock the door or fix the bus.
Since the Multiplayer-update(beta) stone costs 100g each from the beginning of year two, so you hardly get any good amount of stone. Scull Cavern is much more harder in MP, also because, if you find a hole in the ground each player falls down a different amount of lvl.
To add to the food part of the guide, if you have the botanist foraging perk then iridium salmonberries/blackberries are a really easy source of raw healing (65 energy and 25 hp per berry!) and can be easily found in bulk with lv 10 foraging. The best part is that using them doesn’t change your skill buffs either so you can bring a couple buff foods and hundreds of berries for a safe trip down the cavern.
I just started playing so maybe they’re changed it but i didn’t get the lava katana at the end of the basic mines. I can buy it for 25k at the adventures guild
Huge tip, use the ring of yoba too, it has a chance to completely negate all damage from any attack, this is stupidly useful for when youre getting swarmed or even low on health

- Use warp totems to get home when you're in trouble (low health, late hours)
I would recommend the iridium band doubled with the burglar ring instead of two iridium bands. The double glow isn't necessary because the cave is already perfectly lit and 10% damage is plenty to move quickly through mobs. The burglar ring ensures higher drop rates for the mobs and higher chance of getting rare loot as well. By far my favorite ring in the game.
I'm so rich I use gold as ammunition
Slime charmer ring is my best friend in the skull caverns.
oh shit you might be right
Oh man those slimes are the worst when they surround and stun you. I'm usually lucky to make it away with less than half health.
How do you get it
@@dazedcitrine by killing 1000 slimes. Gil, from the Adventures Guild, will give it to you once you've completed the quest
@@zeroangelmk1 slimes are easy to manage, the worst enemies in caves by far are serpents and iridium bats
I had no idea you could permanently kill the mummies with explosives. Thank you!
I hate the fact that there is no save point! BOOOO!
Skull cavern elevator mod is like a save system if you want one. 😃
He didn't created the game, he just shows what he discovered when he played .
@@Guigui_82 Thank you .
Now it's a lot better
@@alecsfarax2033 You're welcome.
Great tips. I was hesitant to go back after dying very quickly on Floor One and losing several big stacks of seeds I'd just bought, plus other stuff. Thanks for an amazing job with this video. Well done sir !
You can put a chest outside the cave and leave that kind of items before going in! Just in case
I've never seen anyone actually use the slingshot, and I had no idea you could fire gold ore or bombs instead of stone... so cool.
I also didn't know you could cut down trees in the desert, or that blocking those bugs would stop them moving. Great tips!
This gave me some great tips for delving deeper in the mine -- thank you so much!!
I have no clue why I never thought to carry loads of stone to craft stair cases on the go. So simple but very helpful... nice tip
I realize this video of yours is now 2 years old, but it remains very useful. Thanks so much!
I've downloaded the game last year(2018) and have been playing ever since, i'm still pretty new to it and this guid really halped me :)
Even though Harvey is at 10 HEARTS with me, and is literally about to be my fiance, the asshole still charges 1000 gold everytime I get knocked unconscious.
I went into the skull cavern in year one, bad idea??? I think it's too soon but idk XD
what about taking a load of cheap food like pizza to eat while the bombs go off?
it should freeze time, allow the bombs to explode and make you invulnerable to the explosions while the eating animation completes.
really ? well you have to eat at the exact right moment then I guess
I find gold star cheese to be a pretty good item to take with you. No buffs, but very good health and energy recovery.
If you have some happy cows, you can very easily get these in abundance. And most trips I take only use about six pieces at most.
I myself find that to be an exploit, but also not a huge deal, so I wouldn't speak of it myself, but I don't mind people using it.
Sadly they patched that exploit several weeks ago; you still take damage even while in the middle of eating
Botanist with salmonberries and blackberries will work like a charm
This video was extremely helpful ,thank you! Still kind of laughing over the running through the mine dropping bombs tho 😂😂 why didn't I think of that omg
I still need to get a prismatic shard, and thanks for the tips. I'll probabley get farther than floor ten now.
i'm learn English with your videos, your voice is very good.
The skull Cavern is super hard for me!
Just got to the skull caverns & they kick my ass. This guide is amazing!
An easy food that I always keep on hand is the Maple Bar. It just takes maple syrup, sugar, and wheat flour. For relatively easy ingredients it heals a ton and offers long lasting buffs.
Thank you this helped a lot. I will wait till my combat is at 10 before I try again.
this is actually a very helpful guide... first time i clicked it away because of the annoyingly long intro but if you fast forward there is really good info here
I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this video! This helped me A LOT! :)
Thanks! Great guide! The slingshot with gold ore tip was new for me.
This is actully a great guide good job keep it up and damm the freekin slingshot is usefull I DID NOT EXPECT THAT XD
That was a very comprehensive Skull Cavern guide! Thank you for sharing it, Game Shark! I started to feel desperate when I realised that there was no elevator in that mine, so this video is very helpful to me.
This was an awesome video. Thank you very Much for putting this together!
after watching this in frustration after dying so many times, I've realized my mistake was bothering trying in year 2 spring with combat level 6 lmao
Because of the update you can stack stairs now! It makes it a lot easier to just make stairs beforehand as well.
Best video so far, GS. I can tell you put a lot of effort into making it. Super helpful, as well! Keep it up!!
Thank you! I appreciate the nice comment and support, it's good to see you guys notice my hard work! Thank you so much
@@SharkyGamess how did Marlon lose a eye anyway
Ive just done my first ever Skull cavern run, I only got to floor 83 but managed ok after using your advice. The only things I don’t yey have is the rings you suggest but I’m working on that! Many thanks your tips definitely made this boring chore a lot more bearable!
I would add two tips!
1. The blocking mechanic can save your ass against the serpents when they get to be too dangerous, and
It's secret note #20
It's 0.025 luck increase, max luck is >0.07
I have never used a warp totem... I need to get that galaxy sword too!
i just realized that emily's 14 heart event gives you beautiful clothes with boots that is one of the best boots in the game haha
Thanks for the video, I’m new to Stardew valley. My very first time to the skull cavern not knowing that we wouldn’t have elevators got to level 20 and died lol. It was fun though now that I have these tips I will be testing them out. 😊
me: bringing lots of food and still dying on the 4th floor ; _ ;
also NO ELEVATOR?! im never gonna get down with the good ores lol
I suggest farming as much stone in the quarry/mines as much as possible. It takes 9,900 stone to make a hundred ladders. Place them all right at the best time and you can get to that special item on floor 100. 😂
actually, I think that you should use a slime ring and an iridium band because there are many purple slimes and they disturb a lot
I definitely needed this for Skull Spelunking!
I like having the the slime charm ring equipped
Hey I'm a new subscriber and I love the tips you're posting. I just bought stardew valley and I'm currently on my first year of Fall. Could you make a video for tips on how to make you're farm into a winery for noobs like me haha. I watched your winery project video but didn't know how you got there. Keep up the good work!
Welcome, and thank you! I will look into making a winery guide to help you out, stay tuned ;)
This is a great guide - thank you! :D
First time playing this game, so all the tips were helpful. Thanks!
im writing notes in a book just for this video cause i cant recall al of them xD
So how many hours have you spend on Stardew Valley? I feel like I am noob after 30 hours
Your guide was really helpful! Ty very much :D
This has been so helpful!!! Thanks a lot
also with the 1.3 update if you get to willy's heart event then gus will sell crab cakes
Gus only sells crab cakes for 3 days after that event
@Adrien SGB what the-
I think some of these have changed in 1.3 as there was no lava katana on floor 120... the space boots were on floor level 120
It will be in the adventurer's guild for 25000
Lava Katana is unlocked when you clear the mines for the first time and is purchasable from Marlon for 25k gold
I totally didn’t think of using stairs down there! Gonna have to try this next time!
Absolutely excellent video! Thanks for the tips!
Nice farm layout Mr. Shark. Nice tips. Nice video. Nice voice. Amazing!
Thank you very much! "Nice comment" ;)
Bravo. I've died so many times! Thanks for the tips. Very helpful! Keep it coming.😂
Thank you. This information is exactly what I needed.
Really, I just need a few bits of iridium for sprinklers. Throw me a bone, game.
5:42 Elephant energy!!
Well done video mate, quick and easy!
This is a very helpful video guide, thanks.
When’s the next Stardew live stream 🤞🤞🤞
Next Wednesday!
GameSharkHD look forward to it
Thanks for the tips. I love the music in this video and think it would be great in-game o.-
I just started watching gameshark and he has some very good tips thanks for the info gameshark keep it up 👌👍
Since the Multiplayer-update(beta) stone costs 100g each from the beginning of year two, so you hardly get any good amount of stone. Scull Cavern is much more harder in MP, also because, if you find a hole in the ground each player falls down a different amount of lvl.
MP Skull Caves are a shitshow, the only solution to the MP problem exists in the form of purchasing staircases with jade in the desert
Staircases stack now, otherwise very informative. Thanks!
Thanks! I got to level 200 using your tips!
I just started playing so maybe they’re changed it but i didn’t get the lava katana at the end of the basic mines. I can buy it for 25k at the adventures guild
You dont get it from the basic mines
For speed, there is a best profession. You max damage output over HP.
Basically Brute profession, every other combat profession is worthless
Huge tip, use the ring of yoba too, it has a chance to completely negate all damage from any attack, this is stupidly useful for when youre getting swarmed or even low on health
Thanks! I made it to level 70 I see progress coming!
