I don't think i can ever gain rockets trust, his first owner broke his beak when he was baby and hes very very scared of hands, hes fine when hes sitting on my shoulder but hed rather be alone in his cage, it breaks my heart
I once had a cockatiel, she was a lutino. To get her trust I often times sit near her and play the keyboard, then after a week I began to start putting my hand in the cage for about a minute, not moving my hand. Once she was comfortable with my hand in the cage, I would give her less food and feed her by hand feeding at night. Then I put one of my hands in a step-up position and the other holding millet outside her cage. After that I just let her "step-up" my finger and she cooperated willingly, I then moved her carefully outside her cage while she was on my finger. At first, she flew away from me. But when I wen't near her holding millet she grabbed my hand like she was comfortable with me and then "step-upped". I could tell she trusted me then and there as she let's me hold her and pet her without showing signs of fear. Whenever i walk near her cage she would call on to me to get my attention. I would let her out her cage and she would fly on my head or shoulder. After a few months, I decided to teach her indoor recall for a few weeks. I was confident that she knew indoor recall that we then practiced outdoor recall. This was a stupid move from me as she was scared of this, I was confident in her but she was not confident in herself. When she tried to fly to me she missed me and panicked she kept on flying allover the place and then flew higher. And after that I never saw her again. :(

I needed to shit so I had no where to put him and he is not clipped so I had to place him on the sink in the toilet stall. He was so quiet and whenever I call him, he chirps back. ☺️ Actually cockatiels do smile, in a sense....depending on how you define smile... Although, because they don't have mouths like we do, they use their eyes. 😊 They will wince their eyes in a certain way, since the muscles on their beaks contract and lift, especially while they sing or babble joyfully. When my tiels look at me lovingly or with happiness, they'll also appear to smile a little. They tend to tip their heads to the side, and will wince and sometimes bat their eyes. 💞 Blessings to your little one!!
My friend gained her birds trust by singing to her, whistling, and getting her used to eating from her hand. Her bird seems alot more calm when listening to her whistle. Everytime her bird freaks out when another person other than her picks her up. She just whistles to her. The bird itself doesn't whistle much but she seems to love her owners voice. Same here. Somehow mine got out of his cage and flying and screaming around my room for the past few days. I just talked to him, played my music playlist, and put food and water on the floor, last night he waddled up to me on my bed and perched on my hand and then proceeded to call a friend of mine on my phone. Its trusting me and its adorable! Keep talking to yours and it'll trust you. It took awhile for me and I got frustrated sometimes but its worth it. :)
Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I have had opal my cockatiel for a while now and if I put my hand near her she’ll step on, she will eat seed out my hand and pinched fingers. She loves climbing in my head but I try to pet her and she hates it and tries to bite me. I don’t to it up from tail I just try stroking her crest and head and try giving her head scritches and she tries to bite and usually flies off. Any ideas what to do? I’m not trimming her wings because I think it’s kinda wrong for me to take what makes her feel safe.
I need some help I have had my bird for over a mouth I have strained him to step up he strusts me quiet a lot and he will stay on my finger if I put by face up to him but if I take home out of the cadge that all goes away all I can do is feed him with my hand and get Hogmanay sto step up on a stick if I try use my finger he flys away should I clip his wings? I don’t know what to do
I have a pair of cockatiel. Male and Female. its more than two months in my house. the male make just some whistles, that too when it is inside the cage, female never make a sound. and the male do the step up in my finger the female never. it was brought from stores, they said they were ten months old when they sell that. they are not eating anything apart from the bird food. i tried banana, apple , tomato ... they are not interested in anything. what to do. is it ok to leave with the bird food ?
My problem exactly, it's the age, they are too cautious, some experts gave recommended that we tape their wings which we sadly listened too and that gave them quite a scare and caused us a couple of hard bites and a consciousness torn up with guilt hehe.. Now i am being too shuttle and talk too nicely to both but im sticking religiously to the treat reward system (normally I'd give them a treat jusy because they're cute) i spray them every morning with water to refresh them, i talk to them and whistle to them, i change toys every week or two, and it's actually working, the nale even slep in my hand while i was caressing his feathers... I gues what I'm trying to say is that it does need a lot of patience and interaction and most importantly tenderness, they are really like babys only dumber hehe
My family got our little Donovan recently and we love him, but I think we've got a lot to learn to get him to trust us. I can tell after watching this video I'm definitely doing some things wrong because he HATES when my hand is in the cage, even though he was being better about it before. He is super aggitated and terrified of my hand, and I worry I'll not be able to get him to trust me enough to let him spend some time outside his cage. Hopefully I can use some of this advice and he'll warm up to us!
I have a cockatiel that was given to me because.. well the family that had it didn’t have time for him. He was kept in an uncomfortable cage 😣 he also seemed to have plucked his feathers around his neck, and under his wings. Idk if that was due to the stress. (He did that with the other family). They didn’t spend time with him or trained him. I got him a big spacious cage, I talk to him daily for long periods of time, whistle, and sing and he seems to know me already because he reacts excited to see me and follows me around his cage. However, he bites! I can’t try to hand feed him because he goes straight to the fingers. He’s fine until he sees my hand get close to the cage. There’s no way for him to let it anyone get close. His previous owners never took him out the cage or handled him. I’ve had him for a month. Any tips? Is there hope? I don’t know how old he is but they had him for a few years.
We got a cockatiel almost a year ago. At first because I seriously wasn’t expecting this gift I hadn’t done any research so I did the dumb thing and went straight in to try and get him on my finger, obviously that was stupid. So now 3 months ago I decided I would only do is food and water until he stops hissing and attempting to bite me. I try to talk to him as much as possible but because my parents are divorced and I’m moving house every 3 days it’s hard for me to get to know him well and talk to him a lot. Even tho he has a rlly big cage and I leave it open for him to fly around he still hisses. Also when he flys out of the cage he allows me to get him on my hand and take him near his cage, then he will fly too his cage. I still would love some help gaining his trust, anything you can do to help me?
Thanks you for this video! I just rescued a cockatiel (large group he was getting picked and plucked by others) i dont know ANYTHING about him or her but it will be okey! I have experience rescueibg birds just never had a cockatiel!
wait a second.? if he tries to bite you and you go away that would naturally tell him that biting would get him what he wants right? because he performs and action and gets his result. if he bites you but you still try to continue it shows him that biting wont get him what he wants therefore stopping him from biting? so i dont exactly think going away when hes gonna bite you is very correct. does any body here also own birds and can tell me about there behaviors because i have reptiles which i do know have way simpler brains than birds and this is the case with them.
I own 2 cockatiels whoa are a mated pair. From what I know "the beak" and a bite are different. The beak just means watch it ( fuck off basically) that they aren't in the mood, which you should respect when earning trust unless it's just time to get to vet or give them mist/shower and you gotta go. Bird biting you, just keep hand there unless bite is drawing blood then you're gonna need small gloves. Sometimes the beak is a tap which people mistake for bites, it's just a "gtfo of here" type thing to birds as well. My male loves my female very much but that doesn't mean he wants the female in his cheerios, so sometimes he gives her the beak. My female will step up, but does not like to be pet and will beak at me and screech sometimes, other times she lets me pet and scratch her chin. If bird is biting you can give a light ( VERY LIGHT ) blow on them as a "No, don't do that or you get unpleasant blow" or unbalance them a bit on finger. Birds do not like to be unbalanced since they use steady surfaces to perch and sleep on, so this can get them to stop biting even when trust level is low, just make sure not to blow hard because bacteria can get onto them and make them sick. Put cage in safe area, open it and do something else in room ( I stream) and they will come out on their own when ready, go over and talk to them, if they fly off and land somewhere gently walk up to them, kneel and offer your finger to perch on and put them back on top of cage or whatever play gym( should have one ) is available. You can get one for $15-20 off amazon if you don't have anything they can perch on outside of cage. I have toys and small amounts of spay millet, which is a comfort food. They them eat millet handed to them from you, and they will understand that your hand is either source of food or source of support, don't fear hand. That's how I did it anyway. My birds step up np without me saying anything and just holding my finger out near them. =)
I hope you are not serious about this question and did not do it. Cutting the wings takes away his mobility and it's like cutting your legs. So you force your bird to do it, even if it doesn't want to, so it can't escape. They are flight animals.
I have a female cockatiel bird so does she talk and make noise? I bought it new and she is silent does she have to get comfortable with the environment to make noise or ? ( please reply)
In the winter, it depends on how warm or cold the environment is in your home. I would never bathe my Tiel kids in cold water. (I use cool water in the summer or when the guys feel hot.) I use luke warm water, if the room temp is comfortable (60-70 degrees?). If it's cooler, make sure that there aren't any cold drafts that can get to them during and after their bath. You can have the water a little warmer at that point. If they like a misty spray, you can have the water closer to hot in a non- toxic sprayer that can withstand some heat, since the mist always comes out cooler. If it is colder in the home, then you might want to wait till it warms up, or just turn the heat up for a little bit. (Or you can also get them a heat lamp to sit with, while they dry.) Blessings and good luck with your munchkins...
Actually- I gained my cocktails trust by her doing a lap in the air and breaking my bamboos Then she got stuck and her only choice to get off was by going on my finger, that’s my story-
I just got my cockatiels about a week ago They are not hand tamed But one thing I don't understand is why they prefer my wrist than finger when I am trying to tame them And if they do get angry they just nimble at my fingers gently. They do hiss some times but don't really bite hard.
Hi! I just finished this video and I am new to getting a cockatiel. I did researching before getting one but I’m still struggling on what to do, I need a little push sense my cockatiel has had a rough past with an owner would you mind giving me extra tips?

It can be a little more difficult if you don't have a hand raised cockatiel, but it is certainly not impossible. You just may have to be a bit more patient and take smaller steps.

Hi there! My Cockatiel only feels comfortable at the edge of the opening when I open the door and also once wanted to jump on my shoulder which he did, but then he started immediately to fly.... And he flew against the window etc. Thank God all went well and he wasn't hurt, but he wanted to get into the cage as quick as possible. So how do I prevent him from flying so he first can get used to my shoulder and just sit on my finger, couch? Because as soon he's going to fly, he will end up behind wardrobes, windows etc. He does eat out of my hand and takes the seeds from my mouth, but she doesn't like fingers, only the mouth. Because he had bad experiences with grabbing her when he broke loose from picking him up to get to the cage again.

Pic a handfeed baby cockateil
Whenever I put my fingers towards my cockatiels there just walk away from it 😞
Yeah mine too, but it was a christmas gift, so it hasn't been too long. Maybe I can still tame it :)
3:24 rip the parakeet that wants some of that millit too
Love your videos!!! Thanks so much for making them!
My male cockatiel went crazy hearing yours chirp 😂
Hello! I just got a baby cockatiel yesterday and apparently she is "already tamed" but I still want to earn her trust
Thank you for helping me!
I LOVE YOUR PARROT !!!! LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE
My family got our little Donovan recently and we love him, but I think we've got a lot to learn to get him to trust us.
P.S. I give him treats and have bought him toys. I truly care about him. But Idk what to do.
Severn Belle thank you for the advice! I’ll keep trying.
@@MuNeQuiTaBrAviTa 2 months since your comment, how is it going now ?
Do what you're doing now. Eventually he will worm up, maybe when it bites say- no dont do that!(but dont yell or scream)
Let him out of the cage on a perch and when he bites blow on his head gently
Birbs are lovely and cute as well ...
ı like it .Good job
She's pretty and so is the bird :)
Beautiful cockatiel
As I was watching this video my cockatiel was chirping while her bird was chirping 😆
I have a cockatiel names Rio,I got him yesterday he loves to get out of his cage
My cockatiel name is also Rio and his partner name is ash.
ty, great vid! :3
Listen. I have a 6 month old cocktail. Its not have believe me. Every time its bite me. Please help me
Thanks you for this video!
My male cockateil keeps biting the female near or above the beek
What does that mean
do you recommend clipping the cockateils wings when wanting to train them?
I hope you are not serious about this question and did not do it. Cutting the wings takes away his mobility and it's like cutting your legs. So you force your bird to do it, even if it doesn't want to, so it can't escape. They are flight animals.
Omg I love cockatiels
I was watching this next to my new cockatiel and then he was like TWEEET TWEEEEEET TWEEEEEEEET
can you make a video about how to take care of a cockatiel egg in winter please
Aww they are so cute!!!
Thanks for the tips madam🙏
Nice effort
Oh my god sid is so beautiful 😍 thank you so much for the tips.
Thanks for leaving a comment and for watching!
As soon as my cockatiel was hand tamed, I named him Fluffy, his full name is Fluffy King of Kings.
That’s the prettiest cockatiel I have ever seen! Where did you get him?
Your cocktail is very beautiful
Is it easier to tame a cockatiel if it comes from a breeder and handfed ?
I have a female cockatiel bird so does she talk and make noise? I bought it new and she is silent does she have to get comfortable with the environment to make noise or ? ( please reply)
How many times should birds take baths in winter? And should it be warm or cold?
Actually- I gained my cocktails trust by her doing a lap in the air and breaking my bamboos
Then she got stuck and her only choice to get off was by going on my finger, that’s my story-
I just got my cockatiels about a week ago
They are not hand tamed
But one thing I don't understand is why they prefer my wrist than finger when I am trying to tame them
And if they do get angry they just nimble at my fingers gently.
They do hiss some times but don't really bite hard.
Hi! I just finished this video and I am new to getting a cockatiel. I did researching before getting one but I’m still struggling on what to do, I need a little push sense my cockatiel has had a rough past with an owner would you mind giving me extra tips?
can you make a video on about how long takes a cockatiel to trust you??
thank you!
Hello,
My name is Lyn. I have a male cockatiel that I've had for about 4 1/2 years. He used to trust me, but I went in the hospital and when I got back he didn't anymore. I am blind. I'm never sure where he is in the cage that I'm kind of afraid to do anything with him. Can you help me?
you: cockatiel
captions: pocket eel
2:15 Is "giving me the peek" mean he hate you ?
Haha my little pikachu ( my cockatiels name ) keeps hearing you’re cockatiel and thinks it’s another in our house
But is it diferrent for when you got your bird when he was like idk 30 days or something
It can be a little more difficult if you don't have a hand raised cockatiel, but it is certainly not impossible. You just may have to be a bit more patient and take smaller steps.
@@TheCockatielCorner well my dad he he got mine from a breeder, oh an also when mine was younger, he would let us kiss him and hold him and give him scritches, but now he just bites
Not me sat with the volume extremely low so I don't wake my tiels up 😂
I'm getting a cockatiel next week but I might get a pair. Is it more difficult to train a pair?

I just got a cockatiel just a year ago and it has the whole day outside so how will he learn more about the house but it doesn’t mean it lives outside it just get a day outside and at night back inside
I’ve had my cockatiel for almost a year now and she’s a year and a half old she was tamed by her previous owner (a breeder) but she still hates me she’s terrified of me and doesn’t let me near her except when I give her treats what do I do to help her gain more of a bond with me?
Potato_Soup are you holding it wrong? How many hours a day do you talk to it?
mortal I spend pretty much all day around it talking and singing and stuff
I’m just looking for tips because my sister is in college now and I have to take care of our birbs now and our cockatiel doesn’t quite trust or know me very well XD

너무 예뻐요!! So beautiful!!
Umm so like I got a cockatiel today. And it flew on my shoulder and now is sitting there preening. But whenever I move my hand close he bites my finger. He was doing this when he was on his travel carrier also. Suggestions?
I have a 12 month old female cockatiel. She'll eat out of my hand, millet and seeds, stepped up like 3 times, and loves preening my hand, I've tried getting her to step up but when ever my finger gets near where you gently push their stomach she hisses and bites it viciously, why is this?
