it just depends on the bird..... my bird ( i got it single) felt happy at first. 2 weeks later she started feeling lonely even though she was given the same care as usual.Than i got another bird and she felt happy
Dan See If you get a cockatiel, they are very less needy than conures or ringnecks. A woman who owns a small bird store told me this. She also says they’d literally be fine if you took them out once a week. Not that you should, but they would be fine if you went to school or work. She has 70+ years of experience with birds so she knows what she’s doing
Bell Iron Fist this is SOO wrong!! You need to be able to spend at LEAST 2-3 hours a day with ANY pet bird! If you aren’t able to do this you shouldn’t get a bird or have at least two together. All birds and especially cockatiels are extremely social animals. Having one bird and only spending time with it 1 or 2 days a week is horribly cruel!!
If you can, it's a good idea to get a hand raised baby from a breeder. I find that often times those birds are bunch more attached to humans and willing to interact. That's not to say that they're not great birds in rescue or even for sale elsewhere.
I just got my cockatiel Enzo from my friend that breeds them,he's 7 weeks old I think. So my question is,is it too soon to start to interact with him, because he's staying at the bottom of the cage and he's quite. What do I do? 🤔
I would really love to take my little guy out of his cage like this but he is VERY shy and threatened by my hand in the cage, always ready to bite and I wonder, should I let him out the cage BEFORE he's used to me petting/touching him or does that need to be something he's comfortable with before he gets let out the cage? I fear that despite misting him every day, he may be molting and I know he needs some help preventing that from me, but he's just too terrified of my hand for me to be able to help him with that.

Hi, I have 3 cockatiels. 1 is about 1-2 years old and not tame, she hates it when someone comes near to her. The other 2 are her babies. We hand tame them because the mom didn't care about them. The oldest one is currently 2 weeks old, the age of the youngest bird is about a week old. Would the birds be tame when they grow up and how to know if a cockatiel is a male or a female?
***** if you spend a lot of time with the babies, handling them gently and building a relationship with them, they will be tame. Even the mother could make some progress...try rewarding her with millet for good behavior so that she starts associating you with good things. As far as gender goes, the most certain way is to have the sex determined through a vet. However, you can sometimes tell behaviorally what you have. Males tend to be much more vocal once they mature and they do some strutting around, bringing their wings out a bit. Also, in "normals" (gray body with yellow and orange on the face), the males tend to have brighter coloring on the face.
i wish my bird was as nice as yours, mine is tame and likes to be scratched but he's always grumpy and inverted and won't let me pet him without him seeing my finger in front of him steady a few seconds first
So you meantion doing the work on your pc while your bird is with you. Did you had any difficulty to adjust him to that? I have a cockateil for about 2 months now. Right now i am trying to adjust him to new places in my flat (new rooms) because i don't want him always to be in the place where the cage is. When i had him in the room where my pc is, he got scared everytime something happened on the screen, when i clicked something and the image changed he flinched. thank you for this resource! i have a little 3yo male (got him when he was 2 months old) and have been trying to teach him to talk and whistle.. to no avail. he can whistle, but only on his own terms. i was trying to teach him "i feel pretty" from west side story and he does a very warped variation of that. it is the only thing he whistles, usually directed at my shoe, which he seems to be in love with (silly bernardo) or at random blue objects. rewards don't seem to encourage him to do anything on command or to please me personally. talking... no luck at all on that. our main bonding is cuddling and kissing. ... sorry, being long winded. my question is: is he too old to learn new tricks at this point? is it worth persisting with talking/whistling training or might i have one that just isn't wired for such tricks?
knecht oh, I got a cockatiel and I’m pretty sure she’s a she and I’ve had her for 2-3 weeks and what I’ve noticed is when she is a little more in a jumpy excited mood she after awhile gets irritated for no reason and hisses if I go by her, but if she’s calm then she’s nicer, I still haven’t got her tamed yet
I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it definitely is more likely that a male will whistle, especially prolifically. You can definitely try to positively reinforce any whistling that your bird is doing to make it more likely to happen.

if you get millet, a long one, and can get him to eat it while holding it from the outside of the cage, you can slowly decrease the distance between the bird and your hand to gain his trust. Eventually you will be able to get him to eat from your hand from inside the cage. Then you can get him to step onto your hand. Just look for step up training videos
Thank you so much I got a cockatiel Danny Lee when my lovebird passed away Bobby Lee he was 21 years of age when the Lord took him home! Be with him in heaven:-) :-( for me it made me sad I will see him again in heaven I have a Lil black Bombay Siamese cat onyx who is not used to being alone I got a cockatiel who I call Danny Lee! What is there anything I can do that won't make him less apprehensive with me because he seemed like he was me to give him attention then he walks away from me. I'm also in a wheelchair so it makes it tough although not impossible nothing is impossible
My bird just does one squeak at a time just When i give him scratches he goes squeak ! And stays another two seconds before saying it again Of course when he is mad partly when i accidentally tickle his belly he goes squeak squeak squeak
Not all cockatiels are prolific talkers/whistlers. Females, especially, might not be as expressive as males. That doesn't mean they are not amazing birds, nonetheless! I would keep working with your birds and if talking is not the main training goal you can achieve, maybe you can work on some other fun things to train, like step ups, turn arounds (on a perch or finger) or flights. Have fun working with your bird, and thanks for watching!
hello, i just got a cockatiel and he is about 10 weeks old. is that around the right time to start training him or is that too young? also, i just got him home last night and he seem rather stressed (sleepy and not very active). should i just leave him to chill and relax to the new environment? thank you.
Nic TheHappyOne I would give him some time to acclimate and then you can definitely start working with him. Cockatiels tend to love attention, so I am sure he will enjoy your talking to him once he gets used to things!
***** that is a VERY good question. Check for an active bird. Cockatiels do spend a lot of the time during the day being active, minus a few naptimes...so if you hear your bird moving around, it's a good sign. Also, you might want to teach a step up (onto your finger) once your bird gets acclimated, so you can more closely interact with your bird and start to build a relationship. I am working on a video now that details some tips and trick to teach this, so stay tuned, and let me know how it goes with your bird!

what is the reason for that and how do i stop it
help me plss
thank you for this resource! i have a little 3yo male (got him when he was 2 months old) and have been trying to teach him to talk and whistle.. to no avail. he can whistle, but only on his own terms. i was trying to teach him "i feel pretty" from west side story and he does a very warped variation of that. it is the only thing he whistles, usually directed at my shoe, which he seems to be in love with (silly bernardo) or at random blue objects. rewards don't seem to encourage him to do anything on command or to please me personally. talking... no luck at all on that. our main bonding is cuddling and kissing. ... sorry, being long winded. my question is: is he too old to learn new tricks at this point? is it worth persisting with talking/whistling training or might i have one that just isn't wired for such tricks?
are you going to make more videos because I'm getting a cockatiel t tomorrow "... Please reply when you have the chance😃😇👏👏🐥👏💗💗💞
Iyani M did you ever get him? I got one about a month ago and I love him to death
Hello, i have a 3 week old cockatiel and i dont know how to tame him or bond with him:((( please help
Do i clip their wings? I just got a 1 year old male and he just keeps flying away from me. I can't even hold him to clip his wings.
knecht how are things now?
@@yuriddlc9995 he is still biting. He will step uo from in his cage on my finger n to put him on his perch ontop of the cage.
knecht oh, I got a cockatiel and I’m pretty sure she’s a she and I’ve had her for 2-3 weeks and what I’ve noticed is when she is a little more in a jumpy excited mood she after awhile gets irritated for no reason and hisses if I go by her, but if she’s calm then she’s nicer, I still haven’t got her tamed yet
My dad said if I get a job this summer he'll get me a bird, I'm doing my research on you're videos
How do you know what Sydney is saying??
at what age do they start talking ??
I have a cockatiel but it’s a female is it possible to teach it to whistle btw it’s a month old
I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it definitely is more likely that a male will whistle, especially prolifically. You can definitely try to positively reinforce any whistling that your bird is doing to make it more likely to happen.
The Cockatiel Corner ok thanks 😃
The Cockatiel Corner update: my cockatiel died 😔 it was sick and I didn’t realise until 2 days until it died it was a baby only a month old I didn’t know it was sick it looked really healthy I’m really sad 😞😖😣😭
@@kiwi_gat8995 I am so sorry to hear about your loss! It is very tough to loose a pet and it definitely can be difficult to tell when a bird is really sick until it is too late. Many condolences.
The Cockatiel Corner yeah I wish I knew sooner
hi i have a cockatiel 6 years old but i go near to it and starting get crazy and sad as hell i take care now for him but also i want to tame him i saw to much video but i dont think it works on an 6 years old untamed
if you get millet, a long one, and can get him to eat it while holding it from the outside of the cage, you can slowly decrease the distance between the bird and your hand to gain his trust. Eventually you will be able to get him to eat from your hand from inside the cage. Then you can get him to step onto your hand. Just look for step up training videos
i GOTE my bird like 3days and he's qwite what do i doooo
Thank you so much I got a cockatiel Danny Lee when my lovebird passed away Bobby Lee he was 21 years of age when the Lord took him home! Be with him in heaven:-) :-( for me it made me sad I will see him again in heaven I have a Lil black Bombay Siamese cat onyx who is not used to being alone I got a cockatiel who I call Danny Lee! To keep myself amused as well as onyx Danny Lee's pretty special but he got frightened I guess first he was really inquisitive but now he is walking away from me I got him at 3 months old he is now 7 months old I try to work with him every day play with him and talking with him when I'm looking after him but what could I do? What is there anything I can do that won't make him less apprehensive with me because he seemed like he was me to give him attention then he walks away from me. I'm also in a wheelchair so it makes it tough although not impossible nothing is impossible
What do I do if I can't really whistle
Brianna'Sworld 27 show videos of whistling?
My bird just does one squeak at a time just
When i give him scratches he goes squeak ! And stays another two seconds before saying it again
Of course when he is mad partly when i accidentally tickle his belly he goes squeak squeak squeak
it didn't work for me
Not all cockatiels are prolific talkers/whistlers.
Wen ever I put my bird on my shoulder she poops on it
birds seems to talk faster with female owners also soemthing we cant change lol
can you be my mentor ?
your female cockatiel looks pretty. I'm serious I thought she's where mostly grey
Well I cant whistle
My cockatiel only know one thing and that is keep an eye on me and eat everything from my plate. They want my food. Eat all crispy snakes.
