Cockatiels are great at ruining lectures.
I'm a professor, and the other day I was giving a lecture when I got to a slide that was utter gibberish. Turned out my cockatiel had leapt onto the keyboard and stomped about while I was prepping for the lecture and I'd been out of the room for a short break.
Thankfully, my students found it hilarious :)

Regardless, the story about your cockatiel is quite funny. They’re quite the social butterflies and their antics often lead to hilarity. I grew up with them, so I have many stories as well. I did a PowerPoint on them once for a biology class. My professor also loved birds and gave me an A. 😂

@@dez9244 if they grow up together when they are very young they will be acquainted and get along. If not, they will fight a lot because female budgies are very territorial and cockatiels might bother them when trying to play.

Hey guys I strongly suggest you check out bird tricks and perhaps start target training them. This can be a fun trick to get your bird use to you and get treats and stimulation at the same time . Diet is another huge factor, anyways we just go our first cockatiel and we are already hand feeding, next is target training then slowly start stepping up. This helps build a trust bond :)

I used to have two cockatiels. One boy and one girl. When we bought the boy, he was much older than the people working there said he was. He also had a messed up foot. A year later my family bought another cockatiel ( the girl) from my mom’s friend (I think) she was only like a month and a half old. She was a precious baby. The birds never got along very well, that was something sad to see. One night, after my mom put me and my brothers to bed, she told us the next morning that Ziggy (the name of the boy bird) had a seizure while he was on her shoulder and fell off and broke his poor neck. That poor bird lived his life in pain and struggle. That explains why the next morning when me and my brothers couldn’t find him in his cage. He was laying in a box on top of the cage though. We gave him a funeral and buried him in our backyard. Our dumbass dog ended up digging him up a few weeks later though. When he passed away, Jaxie (name of the girl bird) she kept squawking and wouldn’t let anyone touch her. Then she was attached to my mom and wouldn’t leave her. She was savage enough to walk from the cage ALL the way to my mom’s room (her cage is in the living room, to get to my mom’s room you have to walk down our huge ass hallway and turn right. WITH A DOG AND A 4 YEAR OLD IN THE HOUSE!!! Jaxie is now 3 and a half years old, my pupper is one and a half years old, and it has been 1 year since Ziggy passed away. RIP Ziggy.
Around 2:10, the cockatiel had to fix his hair after somebody messed it up.

11. They produce dust and dander.
They’re living quarters smell nice, so do the tiels, so does their dust.
They’re dust is probably just really tiny bits of dander.
If you have their cage in your room you will grow used to the smell, but according to others, you’ll smell like tiel dust.
I call tiel dust ‘Friendship’ because that was the best way I could describe it’s scent, appearance, and texture.

Your cockatiel is super cute!! I have 3 cockatiels at home, and they make lots of noise, but they poop ALL THE TIME. But I still love them and always will. I used to have 4 but one died at the age of 1 year.. But I found one of his feathers and made a feather frame for it. Anyway, this video was nice to see.

I suggest spending a lot of time together! Also, try offering millet and "win" your cockatiels heart. Use millet only as a way to train your bird because they're seed junkies :)

New bird owners:
Here are some tips for taking your bird:
1. Get a larger cage if your bird gets mad when you stick your hand in. The bird is territorial, and so it’s best to get a larger cage. You can get a good size cage for $60-$70 on Amazon.
2. Don’t stick your hand in often, and when you do (to put food/water in, or change the perches or toys,) wear something like a glove (so your hand won’t look like your hand) this way, the bird wont associate your hand with intrusion.
3. When the bird bites you, hold your hand still and do not move. No matter how much it hurts, you need to teach the bird that biting will not solve the problem. The bird just wants you to go away. If whip your hand back when it tries to bite you, that will teach it that biting you makes you go away. After it realizes that biting you won’t do anything, it will stop biting.
4. Let the bird come out of the cage on it’s own. Stay by the cage, talk to the bird, read to it, sing to it, etc. and after a few weeks, you’ll make significant progress. Do this one day: Put the birds favorite food outside of the cage and normal food/food it doesn’t like in the cage. Do this often.
5. Take baby steps! The bird won’t like you immediately. Trust takes time. Don’t try to rush! And don’t worry when the bird doesn’t like you immediately!
Note: DONT TOUCH THE BIRD FOR THE FIRST WEEK!!! No matter how tempting it is, do not touch the bird. That will cause a lot of stress, and the bird could get sick or even die. On top of this, it will 100% ruin your relationship with the bird, and your bird will not want to be around you.

not always true, I touched my bird at the first week and even took her in hand and she wasn't hand trained, now I can't get rid of here always wants to be with me always follows me around and chirps if i leave her alone for more than 10 mins

Our Whiteface Spike is two and a half now and he has this thing for the tub of sudocrem and when you take it away he turns from adorable floofball into the grey and white masked nutter. He flys at your head like a mad birb, there is nothing better than an irate Cockatiel and for a little man he has some serious attitude. 🦅🦅🦅
