He's adorable and I play it for my 21 year old cockatiel Romeo who looks in the mirror and chirps when he hears it. I know how sad it is to lose a pet, but he's brought a great deal of joy to others.
I love how he decided to "clap". Makes me miss my cockatiel whom I effectively grew up with. We just couldn't get things right for him leading up to the end, I haven't pursued another bird because I had so much trouble understanding his needs and desires and I'm sure his mental health is what caused the decline in his physical health and ultimately his sudden demise. I'd recommend against anyone taking bird ownership lightly, in the beginning I thought I could figure out as I went how properly to attend him mentally and emotionally as I'm accustomed to comparatively easy to read dogs though I just couldn't get it right and thus his quality of life was certainly compromised. I'm waiting until I have the time, energy and knowledge necessary to properly care for an animal as intelligent and needy as birds are, as it's a pet owner's responsibility to provide not only for the animal's physical needs but it's quality of life as well. I hope I can make up for my past failings, and I sincerely advise anyone who is considering bird ownership to preempt as much of your learning as possible as the bird cannot wait for you to get the hang of things. Also to understand that although they are often confined to one area while caged and physically much smaller than a dog that they will require as much or most probably more care, attention, and patient understanding than a dog. Don't take it lightly and please reserve your patience, because your labor will pay off when your new friend learns to trust you.

Hi Sam! I didn't do anything special to train him, but whistle over and over and clap my hands. They are very impressionable when they are young, so just keep whistling to him. Your handsome should start picking things up quick. My Neo is now 7 months old and he is starting to pick things up quick. You can usually tell if your bird likes something by how they stop and listen. It has been my experience that they are more likely to repeat something if they like it. Good luck!!!
I have 2 cockatiels, the male learned all kinds of sounds and sometimes sings a piece o laurel and hardy. He give me kisses when I ask him en loves to cuddle. But I still think it's hard to teach cockatiels.... do you know how long you can teach them new things/sounds? Only when they are very young?
Hi! Well, I believe Tiels' learn throughout their entire life. However, their brains are like little sponges when they are young. That us when they will learn the most. They will continue to learn as they get older, just not as quickly. Our Neo is 8 months old now. He really started to talk at about 6 months old. Good luck!
How sweet of you you named him after me :) me cockatiel knows the song by now if i turn my tv on to your bird he sings along XD Ill post a video and sent u the link to show you its pretty funny
So... I might have done a thing. My hubby and I went into the pet store to get a couple snails for our fish tank. All of a sudden I hear this Tiel wolf whistle and also whistle what sounded like a few bars of "If You're Happy and You Know It". I look around and saw this bird in a back office. I inquire and they said he needs a vet visit and then will be available. I immediately left my name and number. Hopefully they will call me when he's ready. It was almost like fate. We will see how this plays out. 😍
Robin Lynn that’s great! 🤞keep us posted! I think it would be great if you had another bird in your life again. I don’t know if you remember but we talked awhile back and I still plan on naming my tiel nanners, (when I EVENTUALLY get one, shouldn’t be much longer now) there are soo many comments here so I know it’s a little strange to ask if you remember me, I only asked because I asked you if I could name my future bird after nanners because he was so precious and you said I could 😊
My cockatiel phoenix loves to watch youtube videos of other cockatiels whistling so he can try to sing along. This video of Nanners is one of his favorites. I am so sorry to hear Nanners passed. away. He was truly a special little bird.
Absolutely adorable. I didn’t know about birds or even think about them until RUclips, and I’ve been learning about and appreciating them. Who knew they are so smart and funny.
So my cockatiel doesn’t like any videos. But this video he loves. He will sing back and now as soon as he sees this video he immediately says whatcha doing? Such a beautiful bird! Thank you for the video. My boy now knows how to sing 💛
Hi, I know this is self indulgent of me, I used to breed cockatiels when I was younger and had a big aviary in my back yard. One chick turned out to be blind. I named Boots (I guess he felt safer on the ground) so we named him Boots because he was always underfoot. He used to stick his head in the corner or in bits of pipe I'd put in and sing to himself. He had a beautiful raspy singing voice just like your Nanners but he stuck to his native song and didn't learn any human songs. His trill was brilliant though. After 30 years, hearing your Nanners made me think of my Boots. You have a gorgeous little bird there, he deserves a bird whistle of his own :)
Hi, I am a cockatiel lover and Nanners is the funnyist scene I have seen. I have owned many of them. My favorite male cockatiel, Julio who looked exactly like Nanners, just died at age 31 (seriously, not kidding). He used to "act like an eagle" greeting when I approached him. I miss him and will replace him if I possibly can. BHL
I have found another video of Nanners! I was so happy! I'm. going to try and upload it soon. It's of the same song, but a different technique for clapping. 😂 😂
Yes. I would say Tiels are a good first bird. Please keep in mind that having a bird is a commitment. This breed's lifespan is approximately 15-20 years. Also, I suggest finding a breeder. You will have a much better quality bird. He will be easier to handle and train. Good luck!
1. thanks for this, especially with all the stuff in the background its quite obvious u take amazing care of him -I like to think the best way u can tell is by looking at the way he thinks: doesn't look neurotic to me one bit. thank you for that.) that u take very good care of him. 2. I was thinking of waiting for an older parrot type bird to go through my city's local no kill animal shelter because if im being honest with myself I can't make a 15-20 year commitment to a bird(not for lack of want, but im 28 and unmarried -lol I'd never be able to give away a stalwart friend because my future wife doesn't want birds/the noise for the next 10-15 years lol) so i'd like to give a great home and be a great friend to an older bird but i'm not sure how well i'd be able to bond with it the way i'd like to without having it imprinted as a youngster, basically I'd love to have a bird fill my need for a dog in the sense that they're both pack animals and highly social from what I understand(they seek out companionship in the same way a dog might?) and those are my needs. any idea if this will work or have any tips? older males or females easier to bond with?
kian raissian they can live up to 25-30 years old but the average lifespan as pet is 15-20 :) so those 30 year old tiels are not very common, but it's possible. kinda like how people can live over 100 years old but after all not many make it.
Hi robin, I have a cockatiel and I was wondering what is the best way to tame him and to stop the biting and I would also like to teach him more words currently he says pretty bird everyone in my houses name hi and hello
Loved this video Robin. The clapping sound made me laugh! Just a word about breeders as you mention. You are 100% correct. I got mine from a breeder of birds and white German Shepherds. I bought this little runt out of about 100 flying around in the walk in cage, who was bald from the others picking on him so much yanking out his head feathers. He was aggressive and untrusting at home. But after about 3 months of slowly befriending, and feeding treats through the cage, whistling, calling him pretty bird, he got better. Long story short, after 1 year, he would fly to me on command, sit on my shoulder at breakfast for bagel edges, and was gentle enough to walk on my forehead when I lay down and groomed my eyelashes. They are birds of personality, I just love them. But where you get one DOES matter.
Super cute! Our cockatiel also could whistle that song just hard to capture the video , he knew if I am trying to get him on vid and he stopped singing haha but I managed to get him singing the beatles song so I am clapping my hands coz he make me happy 😂
I'm still coming back to this video, it's so precious ❤

Hi! Well, I believe Tiels' learn throughout their entire life. However, their brains are like little sponges when they are young. That us when they will learn the most. They will continue to learn as they get older, just not as quickly. Our Neo is 8 months old now. He really started to talk at about 6 months old. Good luck!
How sweet of you you named him after me :) me cockatiel knows the song by now if i turn my tv on to your bird he sings along XD
Ill post a video and sent u the link to show you its pretty funny
Cool
neo deude
Omg i cant smile bigger this is so cute and sweet
Thank you so much! ☺
Hey, maybe it is. Maybe he's back. Fingers crossed.
Robin Lynn that’s great! 🤞keep us posted! I think it would be great if you had another bird in your life again. I don’t know if you remember but we talked awhile back and I still plan on naming my tiel nanners, (when I EVENTUALLY get one, shouldn’t be much longer now) there are soo many comments here so I know it’s a little strange to ask if you remember me, I only asked because I asked you if I could name my future bird after nanners because he was so precious and you said I could 😊
I hope you get this that little guy. They are soo sweet also believe it can be your other baby💜💜💜
@@CenturianEagle I brought him home yesterday. His name is Paulie and I made a quick welcome video. 😍 I hope you get your baby soon!
@@Nerissie I got him!!! I made a quick welcome video. 😍
I'm so sorry ... what a sweet bird he was.
Thank you. ☺
My cockatiel phoenix loves to watch youtube videos of other cockatiels whistling so he can try to sing along. This video of Nanners is one of his favorites. I am so sorry to hear Nanners passed. away. He was truly a special little bird.
Awww, that's sad, I was about to comment that I was hoping that Nanners would make a new video.. Well its to late :(, RIP lil' angel.
I wish he was here to make one. Thank you for your thoughts.
Seriously....I understand that autocorrect changed you're to your. My deepest apologies to all the grammar Nazis! lol
Sooo cute I have bird ogm ogm ogm your bird is adorable
Danm! He sings better then me
I play this for my bird, often. He likes it a lot! Thanks for sharing.
I love how he knows the Andy Griffith theme too
A bird of many music genres. 😂
OMG THAT SO DAMN CUTE!!!!
Hey Thanks!! :-)
BHL
I'm the owner of Nanners. thank you for sharing.
I play this near my birds and they sing along. They love it❤️❤️
I have found another video of Nanners! I was so happy! I'm. going to try and upload it soon. It's of the same song, but a different technique for clapping. 😂 😂
AWWWWWWW SO CUTE AND SMART
LOOKS LIKE MY BIRD MCGRAW
Thanks!
This is so cute!😍
I love him! Superb guy
Brilliant, We'll All Be Happy and Know it, to see an End to This Global Pandemic, Stay Safe Everyone, XX
This made me laugh so hard! Haha😂
+Fatinah Issa lol... Glad to hear!
Yes. I would say Tiels are a good first bird. Please keep in mind that having a bird is a commitment. This breed's lifespan is approximately 15-20 years. Also, I suggest finding a breeder. You will have a much better quality bird. He will be easier to handle and train. Good luck!
i thought it was 25-30 i read it from a book. i wonder which one is the right one
1. thanks for this, especially with all the stuff in the background its quite obvious u take amazing care of him -I like to think the best way u can tell is by looking at the way he thinks: doesn't look neurotic to me one bit. thank you for that.) that u take very good care of him.
2. I was thinking of waiting for an older parrot type bird to go through my city's local no kill animal shelter because if im being honest with myself I can't make a 15-20 year commitment to a bird(not for lack of want, but im 28 and unmarried -lol I'd never be able to give away a stalwart friend because my future wife doesn't want birds/the noise for the next 10-15 years lol) so i'd like to give a great home and be a great friend to an older bird but i'm not sure how well i'd be able to bond with it the way i'd like to without having it imprinted as a youngster, basically I'd love to have a bird fill my need for a dog in the sense that they're both pack animals and highly social from what I understand(they seek out companionship in the same way a dog might?) and those are my needs.
any idea if this will work or have any tips? older males or females easier to bond with?
kian raissian
they can live up to 25-30 years old but the average lifespan as pet is 15-20 :) so those 30 year old tiels are not very common, but it's possible.
kinda like how people can live over 100 years old but after all not many make it.
This I abouslotly adorable and so good for birds, my male bird loves to sing along!!
Super cute! Our cockatiel also could whistle that song just hard to capture the video , he knew if I am trying to get him on vid and he stopped singing haha but I managed to get him singing the beatles song so I am clapping my hands coz he make me happy 😂
I'm currently searching for a new baby bird. Enjoy your feather baby.
